Pitching Matchups for Boston series
I still think will lose 2/3. I have no confidence in this team whatsoever. None.

White Sox vs. Royals......Goin for the Series
QUOTE(Milkman delivers @ Sep 3, 2006 -> 03:47 PM) The AL wildcard is just about who sucks least down the stretch. I hope everyone now realizes how bad of a manager Ozzie Guillen is. I still don't think he's bad. But he sure as hell is not as good as I thought he was. This team has just been horribly managed/coached all year. I hope Kenny and Jerry are taking notice.

Greatest Ever Article on Mack in CF
QUOTE(DBAH0 @ Sep 2, 2006 -> 09:40 AM) Well let's just hope that Ozzie finally gets it, and we see BA pretty much every game from here on in. If anything I see Ozzie playing him there more out of spite. This makes Ozzie look bad when the player himself is telling you he's being put in a position to fail.

The Frank Thomas Situation
QUOTE(WinningUgly85 @ Sep 2, 2006 -> 11:56 AM) I honestly could care less about Frank and the Athletics. If Frank were to win it all with the A's, he would feel justified in showing our organization why we shouldn't have let him go and some crap. When it comes down to it I'm a White Sox fan and as much as I love Frank the player I could careless whether or not he suceeds with another team. I would be happy for Frank in the long run but Frank just needs to remember to keep his mouth shut if they go the distance. And he should feel justified. Kenny, Ozzie, Jerry, a lot of Sox fans (especially from this board), thought/claimed he was done. He's made a lot of people look stupid. That's what great players do. When you doubt them, that's when they rise to the occassion. I can almost guarantee you Frank wouldn't throw it in the Sox's face if they did go all the way. He's not that kinda guy. When was the last time Frank even mentioned the White Sox? His play has done all the talking that needs to be done.

Guillen open to Sweeney in LF
I'd start Jeckle in LF right now.

The Frank Thomas Situation
If we're not there, I'll be cheering for Oakland all the way. I know Frank has a ring (and it's well deserved), but it would be awesome to see him get one playing a bigger part in it than he did last year.

Post-game curse-a-thon
I just finished reading this whole thread. I couldn't find one post, not one, that I disagreed with. I made it known a couple weeks ago how I felt about this team. I've see enough. This team is nowhere near as good as we thought it was gonna be. I've accepted that fact. And, if we get into the playoffs, it will be because we backed into them. This team doesn't deserve jack. If Liriano and Radke were healthy, I would already be looking towards 2007.

Greatest Ever Article on Mack in CF
My respect for Mack just doubled after reading that article. He knows he's no good out there. What can he do, though? Tell Ozzie he doesn't want to play if he has to play CF? QUOTE($I Need Money$ @ Sep 2, 2006 -> 02:56 AM) You want Ozzie to bench pods for the rest of the year? Pods needs a few days off. I just can't believe he's this bad. Maybe seeing a rookie with no major league experience in his spot will shame him to the point he starts playing better.

Hendry Helping Tigers and Twins
QUOTE(CaliSoxFanViaSWside @ Sep 1, 2006 -> 12:18 AM) First its Neifi Perez to the Tigers when Placido Polanco went down with an injury . Now its Phil Nevin to the Twins. Is this the Tribune Co. trying to protect its investment by sabotaging the Sox chances by sending players to our rivals to make the playoffs? L.M.A.O

QUOTE(Heads22 @ Aug 31, 2006 -> 11:13 PM) f*** YOU IOWA STATE WHAT A STUPID f***ING WAY TO WIN LOL. What happened? I just saw the boxscore.

Official College Football Thread
Anybody watch the Gamecocks/Bulldogs game? I know the Bulldogs have a pretty s***ty offense. I was still impressed with SC's defense. QUOTE(Heads22 @ Aug 31, 2006 -> 03:22 PM) AHHH 3.5 HOURS Nice win. Took long enough. I'd say your boy Meyer had a fairly decent game.

Small ball myth
You don't win as many 1 and 2 runs games as we did last year without some small ball. Point taken, though. I think we got a little too much credit for that last year.

And that's a White Sox loser
QUOTE(greg775 @ Aug 31, 2006 -> 07:30 PM) I just don't see how Thome can be put in the group of those who have either been too inconsistent or failed in clutch situations. I will say, it's interesting how our organization was WRONG about Frank Thomas. He's had a pretty damn good year and from what I've read is a fan favorite there and sparking them to the division title. Never doubted Frank for a second. The only question was his health.

Could the White Sox
I'd rather have a team with 7 pitchers with an ERA under 4 -- like last year.

My optimistic thread for the season
Who's that imposter posing as fathom? Anyway, good post. This is it. It's September. Last month of the year. The time is now. This month will determine if we were just a fluke, flash-in-the-pan team that just got career years from 80% of our pitching staff to go along with plenty of breaks, or if we're a legitimate championship contender that can rise to the occassion when the stakes are the highest.
-
And that's a White Sox loser
QUOTE(fathom @ Aug 31, 2006 -> 06:05 PM) We're basically a 6 or 7 man team right now. If Crede, Dye, Garland, MacDougal, or Thornton don't play a big part in the game, we haven't been very good. Guys like PK, Anderson, Thome, and Thornton have had their moments, but they've either been too inconsistent or failed in clutch situations. I disagree with you on Anderson.

Who will get the call?
QUOTE(Rowand44 @ Aug 31, 2006 -> 05:30 PM) We all are. That being said there is always the possibility that a prospect is going to come up and struggle big time. Though I think Sweeney will be pretty quick to adjust and at least put up semi decent numbers right away, you just never know how someone will react to a callup. I just want to see Ozzie give Ryan one start in LF. What better way to let a guy know that you suck and we have no problem replacing you than to stick a 20-year old with no major league experience in your spot. If that doesn't wake Pods up, nothing will.
-
Who will get the call?
QUOTE(Rowand44 @ Aug 31, 2006 -> 05:21 PM) You know better than that. Alright. You got me. I'm just so disgusted by Pods right now.
-
Who will get the call?
QUOTE(southsideirish71 @ Aug 31, 2006 -> 05:16 PM) Well can Sweeney hit better than .230 like our current leadoff guy does. I think he can. He has such an upgrade over noodle arms defense. There's no way Sweeney could be worse than Pods. If he is, he's a fraud prospect. I'm really excited to see Boone back up, though. I think he's gonna do much better this time around.
-
Who will get the call?
Sept 1 is here. I want to see Sweeney in LF. I want to see Logan and less Cotts.

And that's a White Sox loser
QUOTE(PlunketChris @ Aug 31, 2006 -> 04:43 PM) We're playing the Royals.. the worst team in Baseball (though, I think most of you would pin that on the White Sox..) And our two main worries are playing the Yankees and the Angels, both good teams. Yes, I've watched this team all year, and when we go into games against teams like the Royals, I usually feel like we've got a good chance of winning. And when I see our competition playing teams like the Yankees or Angels, I feel like they've got a better chance to lose. I still feel that these next 3 days will make or break what happens the rest of the year because we're going to need a buffer on atleast the Twins to be able to make it into the playoffs. We've lost 6 games to the Royals this year. That's all that needs to be said.
-
Mack, Gload, or Ozuna in LF?
Mack, and it's a damn shame that we have to weaken our bench because Pods is so terrible right now. But you know Ozzie is gonna keep him in there.
-
And that's a White Sox loser
QUOTE(Frankensteiner @ Aug 31, 2006 -> 04:38 PM) Dye, Konerko, Crede, Gload have all hit better this month. So has Thome. Let's not go overboard cheerleading for Anderson. Whatever. Brian Anderson isn't a problem. You said that our 8-9-1 sucks right now. Brian is hitting .296 with an OPB close to .370 in August. Now Pods? Don't get me started. I actually feel like a moron because I'm one of the few that has defended him all year.

And that's a White Sox loser
QUOTE(PlunketChris @ Aug 31, 2006 -> 04:30 PM) Sorry, forgot this board is a complete wash when looking for a positive or confidence. Ignore it if you must, but I think I made a decent point. We've got a chance, on paper, to do something decent with the next 3 days. A chance on paper? WTF!? Have you watched this team at all this year? QUOTE(Frankensteiner @ Aug 31, 2006 -> 04:36 PM) Yes. Even his outs look decent.
-
And that's a White Sox loser
QUOTE(Texsox @ Aug 31, 2006 -> 04:31 PM) We can lose with the best of them. 8-9-1 currently is about the most pathetic stretch I can recall in Sox uniforms. I did say as long as we win 7/8 series, we'd get in, and we won this series, but it feels like we gave one away. Brian Anderson is our second best hitter right now. Uribe has looked pretty good the last couple games. Podsednik? The end.
