  1. QUOTE(RockRaines @ Jan 3, 2006 -> 11:38 PM) I usually go over to the cubs message board for a few funny trade rumors. Tonight there is a ridiculous Troll who has filled their board with spam. I would really check it out, its kinda funny. I assure you this wasnt me, I wouldnt do anything like this for real. lol. Cool. Which one?
  2. That was an outstanding article. I hope he posted it over at northsidebaseball.com.
  3. QUOTE(SSH2005 @ Jan 2, 2006 -> 04:06 AM) Well, if we keep McCarthy in the bullpen it definately makes our bullpen look a lot stronger... Jeff Bajenaru / Arnie Munoz / Tim Redding / Paulino Reynoso / Sean Tracey ??? Brandon McCarthy Dustin Hermanson Cliff Politte Neal Cotts Bobby Jenks I'd feel a lot better if Kenny can somehow land one more proven arm.
  4. QUOTE(SSH2005 @ Jan 2, 2006 -> 03:35 AM) Their pen really isn't that bad now... Aaron Small Tanyon Sturtze Mike Myers Ron Villone Kyle Farnsworth Octavio Dotel (when healthy) Mariano Rivera The last spot in the rotation should be up for grabs though, unless they trade a starter... Randy Johnson Mike Mussina Carl Pavano Shawn Chacon Chien-Ming Wang Jaret Wright A headcase like Farnworth pitching in NY is a recipe for disaster. Dotel is gonna be out for atleast the first two months. And nobody knows how effective he'll be when he gets back. Villone doesn't impress me all that much. Sturtze had an era close to 5 last year. I'm not that impressed with their pen. They're gonna miss Tom Gordon.
  5. QUOTE(SSH2005 @ Jan 2, 2006 -> 12:34 AM) Their bullpen should be better but their rotation is still weak. Randy Johnson will be one year older and worse. Mussina is also aging and not getting any better. Carl Pavano had his one good season in 2004 and got his big contract. Jaret Wright sucks away from Leo Mazzone. Shawn Chacon and Chien-Ming Wang are probably their best pitchers after RJ and Mussina and and that's not very impressive. Their pen is still pretty shaky outside of Rivera.
  6. How anybody could pick the Yanks to win it all with that pitching staff is beyond me. Somebody is taking stupid pills if you ask me.
  7. QUOTE(kyyle23 @ Jan 1, 2006 -> 07:54 PM) I think its time to make a "Jeff Blake Appreciation Thread", ASAP. Hey White Sox Josh, your boy Orton sure looked like a superbowl QB today. Someone needs to tell him the triple head pump fake only works when it is Purdue vs Coastal Carolina. Even in a game with no pressure, Orton still sucks. Blake looked very good for a guy that's seen like 2 snaps all year.
  8. Not surprised with this loss. This game meant nothing and we rested a lot of starters. I am dissapointed that we're not gonna be the #1 ranked defense after this game, though. Oh well. On to the playoffs!
  9. QUOTE(maggsmaggs @ Jan 1, 2006 -> 02:58 PM) Diamondbacks have so many great offensive prospects. They are a little thin pitching wise. Plus, their starting rotation is pathetic and their bullpen is horrible. They won't ever contend without fixing the pitching even with the potential for one of the best hitting teams in the future. Stephan Drew and Upton up the middle is going to be lethal. Yeah, they are kinda thin pitching wise. But I envy their position players.
  10. This is by far the best staff 1-5 in baseball. I won't worry one bit if the era's are a little high in spring training.
  11. Uribe had a couple of amazing plays in games 1 and 2 of the ALCS. I believe both were in the first inning. Crede made 3 really good ones in game 1 of the World Series. Dye had a nice one in game 1 of the ALDS. I know there's a lot more. Just go here. http://whitesox.mlb.com/NASApp/mlb/cws/his...mpionship05.jsp A lot of great video there.
  12. QUOTE(greasywheels121 @ Jan 1, 2006 -> 01:32 AM) Man, I miss Reggie. The Pacers are showing it too, with how inconsistent we are this year. No doubt about it. Reggie's leadership is sorely missed.
  13. QUOTE(SSH2005 @ Jan 1, 2006 -> 01:19 AM) http://sports.yahoo.com/mlb/news;_ylt=Ahu5...ov=ap&type=lgns Good for them. It won't hurt one bit to have Young start in Triple A. I am totally jealous of their farm system. Drew, Upton "Assuming he signs", Jackson, Quentin, Gonzalez and now Young. I guess I'll just have to settle for a World Championship.
  14. QUOTE(WilliamTell @ Dec 31, 2005 -> 04:48 PM) Could we see the greatest player ever to play, who knows. Not trying to compare him to anyone, espeically until he takes the Cavs to the promise land let alone the playoffs. It'll be a fun 15+ years to watch from this guy. Whoa, I'm not gonna go that far. As good as Bron is now, he's got a LONG way to go to even think of him possibly being the greatest player ever. One, his man defense is awful. I've seen guys like Rashard Lewis and Corey Magette score at will on him. He's still gotta work on things such as his mid-range shot and post-up game. And, of course, we haven't seen him in the playoffs yet. He's gonna have to dominate multiple post season's and win multiple championships before he can even crack the top 20 best players ever. But he's off to a great start.
  15. QUOTE(qwerty @ Dec 31, 2005 -> 09:41 PM) He looks nothing like he use to in the past. His man to man defense resembles curry's at this point and sure he gets blocks but it is not because he is the fierce help defender he once use to be. He has lost some steps and it shows up. Defense is half the game and he is no longer like he once was. Forgive me for not thinking his numbers demand 20-30 million a season ( no one does and especially not this version of shaq). This guy could have been that much greater if he was ever able to avoid the injury bug he has had his whole career. It is understandable though considering his massive size and how hard he goes at the game. Age comes for us all. Sure, Shaq isn't the dominant force he was 5 year's ago. But he's still plenty good. Shaq is a guy that you can't just judge by stats. He makes things so much easier for everybody, especially perimiter players.
  16. How did this thread get to 18 pages?
  17. Nothing could ever top 2005. Let's just hope 2006 is close.
  18. QUOTE(qwerty @ Dec 31, 2005 -> 10:47 AM) I would have to say the lakers made the right choice. Shaq has done s*** the last 2-3 years while being one of the highest paid players in the game. Kobe at least plays and plays damn good even if he looks like an idiot with his spandex. Define "done s***"? Shaq averaged 23, 11, nearly 3 blocks on 60% shooting last season. You don't think the Lakers could've used that last year? And he's puttin up some pretty good numbers now since he's been back. He's still easily the best center in the game. He still commands double and triple teams on a nightly basis. It's not a coincidence that the Heat were just 9-9 while Shaq was out.
  19. How damn good is Lebron? Totally took apart the Pistons today. His overall efficiency is sick. I can't think of anybody that's averaged over 25 ppg while shooting 50% from the field since you know who.
  20. QUOTE(sayitaintso @ Dec 31, 2005 -> 12:26 PM) I think artest would win in a fight between the two. No doubt. Kobe got his ass kicked by Reggie Miller. Artest would own him.
  21. QUOTE(knightni @ Dec 31, 2005 -> 03:22 AM) Tavares, Qualls and a good prospect like Jason Hirsh and the Astros are close. Hirsh is a stud. I like it.
  22. I love it how everybody is pickin Indiana and MSU to win the Big Ten this year. I think the Illini has got a little somethin in store for them.
  23. QUOTE(greasywheels121 @ Dec 30, 2005 -> 10:31 PM) I think this Kobe-Odom fight will really fuel some talks with the Lakers for Artest. Kobe and Artest would be a toxic mix if you ask me. I doubt anything happens.
  24. Well, the saying is still true. BE CAREFUL WHAT YOU WISH FOR! Kobe got exactly what he wanted. He wanted to be "the man". Not so easy when you don't have Shaq commanding 80% of the defense.
  25. The slam still gives me the chills.
