  1. Jose is 7-2 with a 3.34 era since the break. Jose was 3-1 with a 2.14 era in August. In two September starts, Jose is 2-0 with a 1.84 era. Keep it up big man!
  2. I could care less about playoff predictions. Just like I didn't care when we were predicted to finish 4th in the division by most if not all of the "experts." Bottomline, this team is good enough to succeed in the playoffs. This isn't like 2000 when you knew we would fail once the post-season started. We've got an elite pitching staff, a good bullpen, good defense, and clutch/timely hitting. We're 30-15 in one run games. A very good indicator of being able to succeed in the playoffs.
  3. I'm with Wite. As long as the Cubs blow as a team, I could care less what individual accomplishments they achieve.
  4. QUOTE(Kalapse @ Sep 8, 2005 -> 01:26 PM) Best record in the AL that year. San Fran won 97 and both the Cards and Braves won 95 each. You know what I meant.
  5. QUOTE(Milkman delivers @ Sep 8, 2005 -> 07:07 AM) What happens if a good in-game manager runs circles around Ozzie in the playoffs? OG has to learn how to manage a baseball game while still being a great cheerleader in the coming weeks. Apparently, none of these guys were around in 2000 when Lou Pinella straight owned Jerry Manuel in that 3 game sweep. But we had the best record during the regular season, right? :rolly I'm not a baseball expert. I've never claimed to be. But, in my opinion, Ozzie is a terrible in game manager. Is he a good leader/motivator? Yes. But his lack of experience definitely shows a lot of the time. My main problem is that he seems too stubborn to learn from his mistakes. He's got the "I'm the manager and I'll do what I want" thing going. And that's cool, but come playoff time, when it's time to go up against proven winners like Joe Torre, Mike Scioscia, and Terry Francona, will see just how good a manager Ozzie is.
  6. 21 innings? Damn! Great win by Kanny.
  7. I'll let the offense off the hook tonight. They've been pretty good the last week. But there's no excuse for us not to knock this Howell guy around quite a bit.
  8. I hope they play that Coors commercial before the start of the game. With the "twins." That gets my hype..lol
  9. QUOTE(GASHWOUND @ Sep 8, 2005 -> 01:38 AM) Oh yes..Football season..The march of the Chicago Bears to the Super Bowl begins in 3 days... Oh yes..it shall be so Hey, don't rain on my parade...and stop laughing. you'll wake somebody up..sheesh... I can care less who wins the game. I just hope Kerry Collins throws for 300+ yards and 2-3 scores.
  10. Congrats to AR.
  11. I think this is a good trade for both teams. Denver gets a legitimate sg/sf who can net you anywhere from 22-25 ppg. They've been looking for a quality 2 for years now. They got one. For Boston, they get a very solid pg in Miller, along with a very talented, young big in Nene, who might flourish in the east. There is a question on how well Pierce and Melo will work together. And they are short in the big man department after Camby, who's very injury prone, and Martin. But all in all, to get a player the cailber of Pierce, you have to give up something you probably don't want to.
  12. QUOTE(jphat007 @ Sep 7, 2005 -> 09:12 PM) What is this problem of which you speak? We have the second best bullpen ERA in the league and the best save % in the league. Ozzie makes some dumb moves from time to time, but with numbers like those, he's doing something right. You can get away with stupidity like that against the Royals. But against the A's, Yankees, Red Sox, Angels? I think not.
  13. I'm not even saying to totally give up on Marte. We're gonna need him. But to put him in that situation? The way he's been struggling against lefties? Unbelievable.
  14. QUOTE(fathom @ Sep 7, 2005 -> 09:07 PM) Can I just say that we should all be happy that we won, even though Ozzie seemed clueless with the bullpen. We can only hope it might adjust the way he manages. Better to have won with bad managing than to lose with good managing. No such thing as a moral victory at this time of the season. Agreed.
  15. IMO, The number one obstacle standing in the way of the Sox and their first trip to the World Series in 473240464604 years is Ozzie.
  16. QUOTE(Kalapse @ Sep 7, 2005 -> 09:03 PM) 7-0
  17. QUOTE(southsideirish71 @ Sep 7, 2005 -> 09:03 PM) 2005, which is this year .270 BAA with a .385OBP against the ol lefties. Please don't remind me.
  18. QUOTE(qwerty @ Sep 7, 2005 -> 09:01 PM) He was not strickly a lefty specialist... that is my point. Whatever you want to call him. Bottomline, Marte has not gotten the job done this season against lefties.
  19. QUOTE(SoxFanForever @ Sep 7, 2005 -> 09:00 PM) He said he was MORE than just a lefty specialist. Don't attack the guy, read what he says first. I'm not attacking anybody. I just gave proof that Marte OWNED lefties from 2002-2004. This year, he f***in sucks. What's the problem?
  20. QUOTE(qwerty @ Sep 7, 2005 -> 08:52 PM) I never recall marte being a lefty specialist. He was one of the rare lefties out of the pen that could get both lefties and righties out at a ridiculous rate. This says otherwise. 2002 vs lefties: .149 BAA, 0.82 WHIP. 2003 vs lefties: .168 BAA, 0.85 WHIP. 2004 VS lefties: .143 BAA, 0.86 WHIP Don't even try to fight me on this one, Qwerty.
  21. Is it me, or did Marte look kinda scared when coming out the pen onto the field? Something is definitely wrong with this guy mentally.
  22. QUOTE(greg775 @ Sep 7, 2005 -> 08:47 PM) You guys are acting like he brought in Viz, who truly is a stiff. Marte has talent. That wicked curve ball. It ain't Oz's fault he must be a headcast beaning two straight guys. Are you a personal friend of Marte? The dude is supposed to be a lefty specialist. WHY CAN'T HE GET LEFTIES OUT? Marte has been average to below average for a while now. It's not like this was his first bad performance in a while.
  23. QUOTE(maggsmaggs @ Sep 7, 2005 -> 08:46 PM) Howell vs ? who? Garcia.
  24. I'm not sure we deserved it, but I'll take it. That's 30-15 in one run games on the season. 40-13 against the al central. A season high 36 games over .500. 15 baby!
  25. DUSTIN f***IN HERMANSON!!!!
