  1. QUOTE(Pale Hose Jon @ Sep 2, 2005 -> 07:45 PM) I guess i am just confused at why someone who has average numbers deserves to get such a huge contract. I like Tyson, but at over ten milllion a year this is not a "great contract." He scores 8 points a game, and has absolutley no outside shot. A six footer is no guarantee with him, and how many of his RPG are off his own missed shots. Tyson at 8 mil a year seems fair. Remember Shareef Abdur-Rahim, signed for the MLE I guess that Rodman guy wasn't all that good because he didn't score a lot of points. Tyson specializes in rebounding, shotblocking, defending. Those are his strengths. Not to mention the fact that he's only 22. TWENTY FRICKEN TWO! There's plenty of time for his offensive game to grow.
  2. Second near flawless game in a row. 2-0 to start the month. Magic number down to 22.
  3. It's nice to see multiple guys hot at the same time. And yes, Scott makes a huge difference.
  4. This is the Uribe I remember from April/May of 04. I hope he keeps it up.
  5. Gload probably should've kept quiet, but you can see why he would be a little pissed. Anyway, I'm glad he's here now. He can only help this team.
  6. QUOTE(Rowand44 @ Sep 1, 2005 -> 10:49 PM) The angels end up winning the final two games of the series and it's all tied up now in the West. Good stuff.... That race is going down to the final week.
  7. QUOTE(Pale Hose Jon @ Sep 1, 2005 -> 10:39 PM) Over 10 million a year, that's rediculas, you might as well keep that money and sign several guys. By the end of this deal, he better be worth that money. 90% of the players in the league are overpaid. That's just the way it is. But there's not too many guys out there that can do what Chandler does. He's seriously capable of leading the league in rebounds and blocked shots.
  8. QUOTE(Spod=Ratings @ Sep 1, 2005 -> 09:58 PM) any guess on the number of years? isnt 6 the most now It's a 6 year deal.
  9. QUOTE(ChiSoxFan @ Sep 1, 2005 -> 09:55 PM) I was listening to the game on the radio earlier and Ed Farmer said that Iguchi was suffering from blurred vision, but would be available later on in the game. Blurred vision? Could that explain his shady defensive play of late?
  10. Anybody think Gio should open next season at B-ham?
  11. It took a while, but it was always a forgone conclusion he would get signed. Paxson was very clear that nobody had a chance at Duhon, Chandler, and Curry. Now, we've got to get Curry taken care of. Anybody got any new info on the potential Songalia signing?
  12. I can't even put into words what a hot Juan Uribe could mean to us down the stretch. We saw the impact he had last year when he was feelin it. I'm gonna wait another week or so before I get excited, though.
  13. QUOTE(Gene Honda Civic @ Sep 1, 2005 -> 06:50 PM) It has nothing to do with the play of late. School is back in session. = 0 families & limitted College age Kids. What he said. I expect a much bigger crowd tomorrow night and through the weekend.
  14. QUOTE(Rowand44 @ Sep 1, 2005 -> 09:09 PM) Beautiful game. The 4 games Pods has played in since he has come back the sox have scored: 5, 6, 8, and 12 runs. But isn't he overrated because he doesn't hit hr's? Great, great game tonight. It was very important to start this final month off with a win. Jose has been our best pitcher the last month or so. Another couple good starts and Ozzie will have a tough decision to make. Also, it's very important to start establishing some dominance at home again. Tonight was a positive step in that direction.
  15. QUOTE(YASNY @ Sep 1, 2005 -> 09:21 AM) I honestly have to say that there are some posters that I seriously doubt this is the case. You're right. I should've said majority.
  16. It's just emotions. We might disagree, but I believe EVERYBODY here is a Sox fan and simply wants to see the team do something that none of us have ever seen in our lifetimes, which is to win a World Series.
  17. QUOTE(DBAH0 @ Sep 1, 2005 -> 09:03 AM) Ok then, so let's just extremely overpay for say a Raul Ibanez by giving up Chris Young and Brandon McCarthy. The fact is, the market DICTATED that there would be hardly any trades this year. Any other season, you know KW would have made a move, he's proven that time and time again with the Garcia trade, the Everett trade etc. Teams that don't have winning records aren't going to give away their best players just because they may be overpaid. They want to win now too, they're sick of losing. Tell em, Dbaho. How anybody can be upset with Kenny is beyond me. If somebody else had been able to land Griffey, Huff, Burnett, ect, I could see why people would be upset.
  18. QUOTE(Soxfest @ Sep 1, 2005 -> 08:58 AM) Part about KW having 2 months is 100% on, I am tired of all the KW apoligist saying he had no chance etc, etc. No one but G.Blum is a joke so much for the we will have money to go get a guy we need in June/July crap he spews every dam year. I currently do not like this teams chances we play very sub .500ish against good AL competition every team is not KC. We've played bad against the A's and Red Sox. We've held our own against everybodyelse. But, I do get why you would be concerned. Like I said, we're gonna learn an awful lot about this team the next 2-3 weeks.
  19. QUOTE(southsideirish71 @ Sep 1, 2005 -> 08:43 AM) If by suspect Oakland pitching staff you mean that their team ERA is better than ours I guess they are very suspect. Well, our era has gone up a bit with the poor pitching performances in Texas. But, on paper atleast, I'll go with Buehrle, Garland, Garcia, Hernandez over Zito, a less then 100% Harden, Blanton and Haren. Also, the A's couldn't win a playoff series when they had Mulder, Zito, and Hudson. So forgive me if I think their current rotation is a little suspect. So is Barry Bonds, and how many rings does he have? It's a team game. And even if their average is higher, they've scored a whopping 6 more runs than we have. Their obp is not much higher than ours, either. We tried to get better, and unfortunately, there wasn't much that could be done. This was an awful market for buyers this year. Not adding anybody certainly wasn't from a lack of effort on Kenny's part. And yes, the hitting does need to step up. As does the pitching and defense.
  20. QUOTE(SpringfieldFan @ Sep 1, 2005 -> 07:10 AM) To be real simple about this, if: Opponent defeats Chisox Then doesn't is stand to reason that: Opponent + AAA secret weapon defeats Chisox + AAA secret weapon In other words what good is this shot in the arm if it doesn't leverage you against anyone else, regardless of if you "care" about them or not? I don't get what you're saying. So if Gload or Anderson come out and actually give us an offensive lift, it won't mean anything unless other call-ups from other teams struggle? We need an offensive pick me up in the worst way. It doesn't matter who it comes from. And it doesn't matter what other teams call-ups do. We need OUR guys to step up.
  21. QUOTE(Milkman delivers @ Sep 1, 2005 -> 08:35 AM) Don't forget Small, who has also been great for them. It's not as good as what they started out with, but they've still gotten better as the season progressed. We're about .500 in our last 50 games. This isn't just a bad month, we've been mediocre to bad for a while. And our hot start is definitely being overshadowed by their play of late. We used to have about 10 games on the nearest AL team, now they're right on our asses. Not to mention that we've lost half of our division lead. These guys are content because they had a great first half, and it seems you are, too. It's like they've been getting consistently worse this entire year, while other teams have been going to opposite way. Well, we were 68-35 coming into August. Our high point of the season was 74-39, 35 games over .500 as of August 10th. Since then, we've lost 13 of 19. So, that's pretty much been our only long stretch of bad baseball all year. Hopefully, it won't continue.
  22. Who cares about Mariotti. No matter what his intentions were, this team has looked like s*** for an entire month.
  23. QUOTE(Milkman delivers @ Sep 1, 2005 -> 08:17 AM) Chacon has been awesome for them. As little as Graff has helped the Red Sox, they still got better. We didn't get better at all. We got worse. It shows in our record and in the way they're playing. They all got better (however slightly, depending on how you look at it), and we got worse. And I partially agree with you on the Angels, because I was basically reaching for anything with them. Chacon has pitched pretty well for them up to this point. My point was, that a rotation of Johnson, Mussina, Chacon, ?, ? is not as good as Johnson, Mussina, Brown, Wright, Pavano, which is the rotation they had obviously hoped for all season. As far as how were playing, yeah, we had a bad month. But I don't think one bad month overshadows the fact that we had the best record in baseball for 4 straight months. Even without Frank, this offense is still capable, and I stress capable, of being good enough as long as the pitching and defense are up to par.
  24. QUOTE(Milkman delivers @ Sep 1, 2005 -> 08:04 AM) Yes, but those teams got better, whereas the Sox got worse. They're also right on our asses. We won't see the second round of the playoffs. How did they get better? The Red Sox adding Graffanino makes them better? That's marginal improvement at best. And if Curt Schilling doesn't get his s*** together soon, they're in deep s***. Yankees got better by adding Chacon? Once again, that's marginal improvement. Fact of the matter is the Yankees have big time pitching problems. Randy Johnson hasn't been Randy Johnson. Mussina has been solid. But after that? How did the Angels get better? You say with Vlad back? He's been back for a while now. Have you checked their offensive numbers this season? They're very similar to ours. And they don't have the depth in their starting rotation that we do. Sure losing Thomas hurts. But we've been without him for most of the season anyway. We more then showed we could win and then some without him. The A's adding Jay Payton has helped. But they're just flat out playing great baseball. It's not because they added anybody.
