  1. QUOTE(Chisoxfn @ Jul 31, 2005 -> 02:13 PM) Relax people...this is the club with the best record in baseball. Boston, Anaheim, Oakland..the rest of the division leaders have yet to make a major deal (Boston may acquire Romero). GMAFB...Kenny wasn't gonna drastically overpay and there weren't any options. Yo Jason. Just wanted to say thanks for creating this cool forum. I liked it. I assume it's coming down after today?
  2. QUOTE(Soxnbears01 @ Jul 31, 2005 -> 02:15 PM) just went on the cubs messageboard. They're absolutely furious this is all they did at the deadline. they got no shot at the playoffs, way too incosistent. Exactly. They can cheer for us in the playoffs, though.
  3. Cubs are getting reamed 9-2. They won't catch the Astros. Let them rip off the Pirates.
  4. QUOTE(greasywheels121 @ Jul 31, 2005 -> 02:06 PM) How many teams made big moves? Do you HONESTLY think KW just did not even try. Teams aren't budging, and the teams that were sellers overpriced what they had. Yup. And that Chuck Lamarr is really starting to get on my nerves. I don't know who this dude thinks he is. Somebody needs to tell him that his product sucks and has sucked since they've been in existence. If all his players were that damn good, they wouldn't suck cock EVERY year.
  5. Kenny is argubly the most agressive gm out there. If the best he could do was George Blum, you best believe the asking prices were out of this world.
  6. QUOTE(CYGarland @ Jul 31, 2005 -> 01:53 PM) The CArdinals are banged up right now, when they get Rolen, Sanders, Walker, and Molina back, they will be fine. If the Astros were somehow able to catch the Cardinals being 8 1/2 games back, then the CArdinals would most likely be the Wild Card team. I would be stunned if the Cards don't make the series. The Astros were a healthy Pettite away from beating the Cards last year. The Cards should be favored, but nobody can tell me a team with Clemens, Oswalt, and Pettite couldn't beat anybody.
  7. I've got to admit. This is very demoralizing. I promised myself I wouldn't get my hopes up, but that was almost impossible to do with all the constant rumors and such. I know one thing, I'll never allow myself to get even half way excited about a trade deadline from this point on.
  8. QUOTE(CYGarland @ Jul 31, 2005 -> 01:48 PM) I think with the team we got, we MIGHT be able to make the WS, but if we face the Cardinals, Game over. The Cardinals need to worry about the Astros.
  9. QUOTE(Milkman delivers @ Jul 31, 2005 -> 01:46 PM) How can we be tied to every single major trade rumor and come away with nothing but Geoff Blum. I'm not pissed at KW, but God damn it I am sorely disappointed. Rumors are exactly what they are, rumors.
  10. For better or worse. Looks like we're rollin with what we've got.
  11. QUOTE(Dick Allen @ Jul 31, 2005 -> 08:44 AM) BP said Marte and McCarthy is the offer for Huff. They didn't mention Baez. They also claim to have a source that says TB likes Boston's offer for him better, and not to be surprised if TB does nothing. Either LaMar really is out of his mind, or McCarthy's stock is not nearly as high as previously thought. B-mac certainly didn't impress when he was with the big league team. I'd hate to think they would hold that against a 21 year old.
  12. QUOTE(knightni @ Jul 31, 2005 -> 08:43 AM) I dunno... Can you handle facing an All-Star/former top ex-Sox prospect 16 times a year for the next 10 years? That's a small price to pay for a World Series ring.
  13. QUOTE(beck72 @ Jul 31, 2005 -> 04:35 AM) FWIW, the NY post thinks were close to getting Huff. "While the Sox chose to sit Ramirez vs. the Twins last night at Fenway for unspecified reasons, Tampa Bay was nearing a deal that would ship Aubrey Huff - one of Boston's primary acquisitions in the Ramirez blockbuster - to the White Sox." link http://www.nydailynews.com/sports/baseball...2p-284430c.html Very good news. Even if it is coming from the NY post.
  14. QUOTE(Dam8610 @ Jul 31, 2005 -> 02:12 AM) We've all been talking for months now about potential trades, and on July 31st, NOTHING HAS HAPPENED! Is Randy Winn going to be the biggest name to move or is someone going to pull the trigger on a bigger deal? I'll be very dissapointed if we aren't able to add a bat and a reliever. Will know soon in less than 12 hours.
  15. QUOTE(Rowand44 @ Jul 31, 2005 -> 01:15 AM) Ok, people on wsi tuned into the radio station and now it's not official and it might only be 1 minor leaguer. It's not official? Only one minor leaguer? I'm confused.
  16. QUOTE(danman31 @ Jul 31, 2005 -> 12:59 AM) You're easier than I. On each message board I looked everyone that didn't hear it and replied was like huh what who when where why. So I'm sure I buy this, plus only the starter of the thread said it. It could be spam. Loretta is back btw. Here's something I came across. http://www.fanstop.com/public/mlbboards/pa....cgi?read=92992 I hope this is bulls***.
  17. I haven't heard anything on the Score or ESPN 1000. Hopefully, it stays that way.
  18. If true, I'll wait to see what prospects we gave up. At the moment, this deal isn't doing much for me.
  19. QUOTE(beck72 @ Jul 30, 2005 -> 04:14 AM) As the trade deadline has drawn closer, I am convinced that Ozzie has taken the "Good cop" role and KW the "bad cop" role in regards to possible trades affecting the sox roster. Going by their recent public statements, [esp. since last week when Ozzie was gushing over AJ Burnett] Ozzie sounds like the head of the family who wants to keep everyone together. While KW is the guy portrayed as wanting to break up the family. This tidbit from the Tribune the latest example.----------------------------------------- "We're out there trying to get the player [who can make the most impact]," Williams said. Manager Ozzie Guillen, who talks frequently with Williams, downplayed any chance of getting a big-time player. "Right now, there's nothing out there that's going to make this team better, believe me," Guillen said. ------------------------------------------------------ If this is the strategy, I like it. It takes the heat off Ozzie, who needs his players to stick by him, even if he'd like to replace a few of them. And it gives KW the right amount of fear that he needs from players to keep their "relationship" in perspective. Good point. I just can't wait till this is over. 32 hours/35 minutes to go.
  20. I'm probably the only one who thinks this. But Ramirez is a guy I would rather lose without than win with. The dude is just an asshole.
  21. Both Jon Garland and Cotts have taught me to have more patience with younger players, especially pitchers.
  22. QUOTE(witesoxfan @ Jul 30, 2005 -> 02:50 AM) Ed Wade has to do something to save his job. The Phillies will not win the Wild Card with their current roster. They need atleast 1 more good SP, be it a 2 or a 3, very, very badly. Their pen, on the other hand, is pretty deep all around. I also do not think Marte would remain a Phillie. The Phils have 2 LHP in their pen, Fultz, who has had an outstanding year, and Cormier, who has had a bad year, are pretty much mainstays. I can't say that I've ever seen Cormier pitch, but from what I can tell, his value right now, in all shapes and forms, is too low for a BMac-Cormier for Burnett trade to work, and there is no point in losing Fultz in the deal, particularly since Fultz-BMac won't get the job done either. The fact that Marte, with control and health, is probably a top 3 LHP in the league only helps Florida in this cause. Another thing that could work to the Sox favor in this is that Philly may have to give up another prospect to get Burnett away from Florida. To me, the most coveted SP who is available(unless Schmidt somehow becomes available within the next 36 hours) should get more than a good SP prospect with so-so stuff and a LH reliever who is having a very down year. FG, in his first good year since about 01, netted the Sox top prospect, their future starting catcher, and another fringe type prospect who can hit the hell out of the ball. Why should Philly not have to give up another prospect is kind of what I am wondering. Personally, I am not going to worry about the offense at this point in time. There is still another month of waiver dealings after this, and the Sox only real weakness is against RHP when Podsednik is not getting on base. They are very solid all around against LHP(Everett is hitting about .321 against LHP, Dye has a .994 OPS against LHP, Uribe has a .926 OPS against LHP(ya, that same Uribe who has a devastating .653 OPS on the year...methinks he should not face another RHP all year), Rowand's .386 OBP against LHP, and others have been solid against them too, though those are probably our best 4), but struggle mightily offensively against RHP(like Uribe's OPS in the .550's against RHP, or Everett's sub .300 OBP agaisnt RHP). Preferably, getting 1 guy in August who can hit RHP at about a .350/.500 tune would be good enough...especially if it were to mean someone like Timo getting pushed out. It may end up taking playing time away from Dye and Everett, but with both of them putting up mediocre numbers(or bad in Everett's case) against RHP, getting someone in there who hits RHP well will only help the team. And I think I would normally ramble on some more, but I'm tired, so I'll just let it stay like that. Wite, believe me, I would love to have Wagner. I hope you're right.
  23. QUOTE(CWSGuy406 @ Jul 30, 2005 -> 02:46 AM) Yeah, I read the whole article. I don't know why I overlooked Guardado, but he makes a lot of sense. It seems that Bavasi is finally starting to realize that Texas/Anahiem/Oakland won't lose the rest of the games this year, thus giving the M's the AL West title. And, with Guardado, the Sox could play the matchups in the 9th, rather than just giving Hermy the ball. Lefties hit .250 off of him, as opposed to righties hitting .243. Really... it makes a lot of sense. I agree with all this. And righties are hitting .183 against Guardado this season.
  24. All this does is increase our chances of playing our daddy's "the A's" in the first round of the playoffs.
