Soxtalk Demographics Poll
This poll makes me feel old. I'm at the top of the 36-41 range. What makes me feel really old is when I look at when some of the young Sox players were born. I was a year out of high school before Rodon was even born.

Evan Longoria
With his decent contract, the asking price will be through the roof. As someone else pointed out, Sale or Quintana would have to be the centerpiece...unless the Sox emptied the farm. But, hey, you never know, the Sox did just sign Brad Penny...he could fill the spot vacated by Sale or Quintana.

Sox to introduce Samardzija, Robertson, Melky on CSN

2014 Films Thread
QUOTE (RockRaines @ Dec 16, 2014 -> 10:24 AM) I watched Guardians last night, good movie, i would watch a sequel. I finally got around to seeing it this weekend. Thoroughly enjoyed it. Looking forward to the 2016 sequel.

Are we really that good?
QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Dec 16, 2014 -> 09:59 AM) With the damage he did last year with absolutely no talent around him, and then thinking of the talent in front of, and behind him now? Agreed. Abreu could have some insane numbers this year with Eaton and Melky in front of him and LaRoche behind to protect.

Anybody else having trouble supporting this team?
QUOTE (Reddy @ Dec 16, 2014 -> 07:37 AM) So don't? Lol Every team from the last 20 years (including the 05 Sox!) was fueled by steroids, you just didn't know about it. I couldn't agree more. If someone doesn't like Melky and therefore doesn't like the team anymore, go find another team to root for. But don't believe for a second that there aren't many more guys who were juicing who just didn't get caught. I believe that Melky is most likely clean. He's not going to want to jeopardize his career. Personally, I love having Melky on the team. He's a huge upgrade over Viciedo, and his 3 year $42 million deal is pretty good. Just think...Rios is getting $11 million from KC.

Early predictions thread
87-75. Sox and Tigers are within a couple games of each other almost all season. At the end, the Tigers take the division and the Sox take a Wild Card spot.

Get Out to Support This Team
QUOTE (ewokpelts @ Dec 15, 2014 -> 07:49 AM) Stubhub typically has deals, or you can google "white sox ticket codes". I've used Vivid Seats a few times and gotten really good deals. Seat Geek is another good site.

Anybody else having trouble supporting this team?
QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Dec 15, 2014 -> 07:41 AM) I'd say that on paper this team has had a stunningly successful offseason. There are still issues like the bench setup but the roster on paper is strong enough that there's little reason to think they will be major issues and one or two minor moves could really help that. From an emotional perspective alone I don't like this guy in particular, let alone a guy from Valpo but I'll get past that. From this point there's literally no excuse for this team to miss the playoffs. Anything less is a huge failure. If last year's team could win 73 games, this team as constructed now should win 85+. If nothing goes wrong like injuries or a PEDs suspension , they should easily be contenders for the division.

2014 TV thread
Homeland with another excellent episode last night. It didn't have the intensity that the past three did, but what a build up to the finale next week. And what the hell is Since my wife and I have caught up on most shows that have gone on winter break, we've had the opportunity to go back and watch a bunch of stuff we'd DVR'd that looked interesting. We're watching Scorpion now. Great popcorn stuff. Nothing too serious, but good action and stories. And, if you pay close enough attention, you can actually learn some stuff when the nerds...I mean team are working out a case.

Anybody else having trouble supporting this team?
I have no problem supporting this team. I believe that Melky is most likely clean now, but if he's not and gets caught, he'll face the consequences. My take on this is, we all know that there are many more guys out there who were juicing at one time or another before the MLB really cracked down. The guys who were caught are the ones we know about. I'd be willing to bet that there were a few on the 2005 team that were juicing. No proof, I realize, but there was speculation about at least Rowand and Everett. This team looks so much better than last year. Significant improvement have been made to the starting rotation, DH, LF, and the bullpen. I'm excited to see this team play, and I can't wait until April.

Sox sign Melky Cabrera
I love the signing. Melky will be a huge upgrade in LF. The hate and distaste for the signing because he was caught juicing baffles me unless those expressing the hate can say the same about all of the others who have been caught. Furthermore, if anyone thinks they're weren't juicers on the 2005 World Series championship team, they are deluding themselves.

These moves are awesome, if ..........
I've found that Rock (and bucket for that matter) has been pretty accurate with what he shares. Inside information doesn't mean 100% correct information all of the time. I certainly appreciate any and all tidbits. I think in this case, he was saying that he expects the Sox to make another move or two. Based on what Hahn has said, I think we can all agree that they are still trying to fill a couple more holes, and that's what I took from Rock's comment here. All that being said, I hope that if the Sox only make one more move it's more a better option in the outfield. We keep saying to give Viciedo one more chance, one more year, but we see the same results every year (minus a couple weeks where he shows flashes of what could be). I don't want the Sox to make a move just to make a move, but I'd really like to see the LF position improved. The team has been improved dramatically this off season, and if we go into the season with the way the team is contructed now, they'll have a better chance at the division. But one or two more moves could make them the favorites.

White Sox acquire Dan Jennings for Andre Rienzo
QUOTE (Y2JImmy0 @ Dec 11, 2014 -> 11:13 AM) Yeah I think LHP Onelki Garcia has a real chance as well. Oh yeah, forgot about him.

So, the bullpen looks a lot better. RHP Guerra Petricka Webb Putnam Cleto? LHP Duke Surkamp Jennings Closer - Robertson Missing anyone?

Predict The Next Move
Sox have been quiet for a while. Wonder if Hahn is working on something or waiting to see what happens today.

Red Sox sign Justin Masterson
QUOTE (Bigsoxhurt35 @ Dec 11, 2014 -> 10:57 AM) @Buster_ESPN: The Red Sox have an agreement with Justin Masterson. I think it was Tuesday when we heard they had offered him a multi-year deal. Wonder what the numbers are.

Yoenis Cespedes traded to Detroit for Rick Porcello
Joel Sherman @Joelsherman1 Cespedes has release clause at end of contract so can't be made qualifying offer after '15 season as fr agt, Porcello can receive QO So, Detroit doesn't have the opportunity to get a draft pick if Cespedes signs elsewhere after 2015.

Hahn on 670
QUOTE (jasonxctf @ Dec 10, 2014 -> 10:21 PM) Dude hit .284 last year QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Dec 11, 2014 -> 09:31 AM) And would be a huge defensive improvement. Someone made the point in the Ichiro thread that the .284 was an "empty" .284. Might be true, but his defense and speed would be better than Viciedo. I'm beginning to think I could see him as a starter.

Dodgers aggressively pursuing Alexei
QUOTE (SoxPride18 @ Dec 11, 2014 -> 09:28 AM) Would you guys trade Danks for Ethier + cash given how tight we are for money? Not saying I would do it as I am not a huge Ethier fan, but strictly on needs and money standpoint. Yes, especially if the Sox were to sign Masterson or the like. Of course, they'd have to send enough money.

Yoenis Cespedes traded to Detroit for Rick Porcello
QUOTE (Y2JImmy0 @ Dec 11, 2014 -> 09:02 AM) That's a great trade for Boston if so. How many years of control does Porcello have left? Looks like just 2015. He'll be a free agent after the season.

Looks like Cespedes to Detroit for Porcello.

This Team Needs Another Starting Pitcher
Masterson is reportedly signing with some team today. I haven't heard anything recently regarding the Sox, but you never know.
