  1. QUOTE (RockRaines @ Dec 2, 2010 -> 02:40 PM) I wouldnt discount his information that quickly because he's a douche. There are leaks all over the org, and I like it that way. His two tweets are quite contradictory, so there might actually be something to his first one. I doubt he knows a signing has occurred, but he may have heard some valid info from someone. His second tweet covers his ass.
  2. The Terriers finale was good. Tied up a lot of loose ends. I'm guessing the ending was left that way in case the show isn't brought back next year (which it better be!).
  3. QUOTE (bucket-of-suck @ Dec 2, 2010 -> 03:28 AM) It's not "letting Paulie walk" like so many others have said. The Sox simply have very little they can do to keep him because it wouldn't be the teams fault if he left. It's not about money, it's proximity to his family. Konerko literally said that the Sox could offer the most money and it may not matter. I wish more fans would realize this... I agree. I keep seeing references to the Sox not being able to afford Paulie and they should "just trade" Jackson or some other higher paid player so they can afford him. The Sox can afford Paulie, and I'm sure they will or have made an offer similar to other teams after him. I wouldn't be surprised to see him sign with a team (a team close to his home) for slightly less than another team offered him. I read that Baltimore made an aggressive offer, but I don't see him playing there for several reasons, least of which is that the O's probably won't compete for a couple years. He may end up signing with Arizona for $12 million a year when Baltimore offered $14 million. Or he could end up signing with the Sox for $12 million a year. We'll have to wait and see. But to say it's all about not being able to afford him is a misinformed statement.
  4. QUOTE (sircaffey @ Dec 1, 2010 -> 03:05 PM) I really think the play here is to take the picks for Konerko and give 1 year deals to DLee and/or Berkman. Good chance they reach at least type B status next season, maybe A. Then make a play for one of the big FA 1B next season. We need to influx of young talent desperately, and by letting Konerko go and signing the one or both of the others, you gain 3-6 1st/2nd rd draft picks. I think Lee and Berkman will both post at least .850 OPS seasons. Berkman and Lee could probably be signed for around $12 - $14 million combined, which is what the Sox would pay for Konerko or Dunn. Lee and Berkman could have good years, and a gamble like that could pay off well. Or they could both tank...but that would be more surprising. I like the idea of getting the picks for Paulie and possibly targeting a big FA next year (Fielder?). But, I'd also be okay with Paulie returning for 2/$24 million.

    Tree up?

The tree is up. Being pre-lit, all we had to do is the ornaments and garland. The kids are old enough to hang the ornaments, and the wife doesn't like anyone else doing the garland. So, after I assembled the tree, I sat back with my beer and "supervised".
  6. His defense alone make him extremely valuable. Add to that the good BA and decent power, he's worth a lot to the Sox.
  7. What would be a good contract extension for him? He's worth at least $2.5 million a year. 3/$10 million?
  8. Hey, at least the Sox would have a Gold Glover in the infield.
  9. QUOTE (greg775 @ Dec 1, 2010 -> 12:32 AM) I just don't really get how we can waste all that money on Edwin that could have gone toward keeping Paulie. Is Edwin worth that much more to our rotation than Hudson? If we can keep Paulie in the meantime? Could be a very stupid decision. That said, if Paulie walks, I agree ... please let it be AZ. I don't think the money being spent on Jackson interferes with any offer they will make or have made to Konerko. I doubt the Sox would offer more than $12 million per for 2 years even if they hadn't traded for Jackson. If Paulie plays somewhere else, I'd be surprised if it were for much more money. He might want a third year or he might want to play somewhere else for other reasons.
  10. It is speculated that Berman could sign somewhere for $7 million for one year. He was a mess for the Yankees, but I wonder if that'd be a good deal.
  11. QUOTE (flavum @ Nov 30, 2010 -> 06:57 PM) Maybe it'll happen next week, but it's surprising there haven't been any real offers made public for PK. It's too bad the Sox couldn't get him to come back for 2 more years at $12, and an option for a third. If he can do better, he should take it. Did the Sox already make him an offer? I'd like to see him back for the contract you outlined, too. He probably has three years left in him...maybe a couple more strictly as a DH, but I wouldn't mind seeing him retire as a Sox.

    An Open Letter

Dear Driver Tailgating Me When The Traffic Ahead of Me Is Keeping Me From Going Any Faster, Go f*** yourself. Sincerely, Driver About to Give You a Face-full of Brake Light
  13. QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Nov 24, 2010 -> 07:42 AM) I believe I said that, though I used the word "bulls***" instead. Balta was being more diplomatic...and rated PG.
  14. I only watched Dunn play 1st base when the Nats were playing the Sox, but I can agree that he is not a good defensive 1st baseman. But, could imagine how small he could make The Cell look? I think his "bad" side (the glove) is more than compensated by his "good" side (the bat). If the Sox are parting ways with Konerko (and signs are pointing in that direction), I'd be more than happy with Dunn as his replacement.
  15. I wonder when the first big deal for the Sox will occur. When was the first big one last year?
  16. Does anyone know of any restaurants open on Thanksgiving in the SW Suburbs?
  17. I've only been to Wrigley 4 or 5 times, including for the Winter Classic. I can say, however, that the park is a dump. It has a ton of history, and the location is great, but I agree that a new modren park could be built there and it would be fine. I'm not a Cubs fan, so I'm not going to pretend to know how they would react. But imagine a ballpark like PNC Park on that site. A beautiful, fan-friendly park would win over most baseball fans. You'd still have the neighborhood and you'd have a nice ballpark in which to watch a game.
  18. FWIW, Bruce Levine is saying the Sox are not shopping Quentin. I don't know if that means anything. I would assume that Quentin would be on his way to another team if the right offer came along.
  19. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Nov 18, 2010 -> 08:27 AM) There is about a zero chance of this actually happening. This is complete speculation by a writer, backed up by nothing in fact. Well, he didn't actually say anything would happen. What I took from the article was that it was nothing but speculation, and he offered up several different directions the Sox could go. It's like he was saying the Sox may make a few changes, make a lot of changes, or somewhere in between.
  20. I wonder if they are looking right now in case they don't re-sign AJ or because they've decided not to re-sign AJ?
  21. QUOTE (knightni @ Nov 17, 2010 -> 04:51 PM) http://vimeo.com/5760817 A song for Tex. I'm trying to add up the lists - it may take a few days before I start doing the list because I have a few projects on my plate right now. Let me know if you need any info on beers.
  22. QUOTE (Soxbadger @ Nov 16, 2010 -> 11:47 AM) Yeah Hell Kitchen cast has been weak, but I still enjoy the show. Also The Event has been pretty solid, havent heard many people talk about it. I'm watching it, but I'm 3 episodes behind on my DVR. I think it's pretty good, but it hasn't quite blown me away yet. I will stick with it. I just hope it doesn't go thet way of Flash Forward.
  23. QUOTE (Milkman delivers @ Nov 15, 2010 -> 11:15 AM) I know. I don't watch anywhere near as much TV as that would suggest, but Sundays are just ridiculous. During the week, the only shows I watch religiously are SOA and It's Always Sunny. I refuse to watch Terriers (which I've heard only great things about) just because I don't want to have that many shows I can't miss. DVR! Terriers is a can't miss for me. Well, you could wait until the DVDs come out.
  24. Sure, why not. I would think he'd have a decent year. His ridiculous power may be gone, but he's still a force. Plus, his OBP is great. $5.5 million would be a bargain if he had a 2010 Vlad-like year in 2011.
  25. QUOTE (FlaSoxxJim @ Nov 15, 2010 -> 06:56 AM) Don't scrap it, even if you can't approach it with the same mathematics of your other lists. Punt the lists to one of us who expressed an interest in pitching in on beer summaries and we can figure out how to share info and rate picks. That's what I was thinking. We can still create a list, and some of us could find a new beer to try.
