Dunn and Rios
QUOTE (greg775 @ Sep 2, 2011 -> 12:15 AM) I guess our main disagreement is I feel a manager has to play the guys who are making zillions of dollars and you don't. I can't believe I don't get more support on this from others cause I feel strongly my position is correct. This isn't freaking little league where everyone gets to play and everyone gets a trophy. You do not have to play the players who are not performing. I think we all remember when KW said it doesn't matter how much a guy is making, the best players need to play. But your guy didn't listen and still trots Rios out there, and even puts Dunn in a game-winning situation when everyone (including my dog) knew he would strike out. A manager does not have to play the guys who make the most money. A manager has to put a team on the field that gives you the best chance to win. Ozzie doesn't do that.

... it's about time
QUOTE (greg775 @ Sep 1, 2011 -> 11:01 PM) Hopefully 20 more years. The guy speaks the truth and people blast him. Some of you won't be happy until we get a grumpy ol manager like Ned Yost who won't say anything except "we take them one game at a time." Then you'll all be happy I guess. I applaud anything negative Ozzie has to say about these losers. You think talk means anything to these millionaires? They just go out and play every day. This Sox team doesn't deserve any long Ozzie speech about how we are still in the race, we can beat Detroit, blah blah. I love his colorful comments. They are way better than the cliches the rest of the managers spout daily. Detroit is not going to be any more fired up against us because of anything the Sox say. If the Sox hit home runs and pitch well they will win. If they do not hit home runs they will lose. And some of you really are gonna be mad cause look for Flowers to sit soon and look for DeAza to be sitting as well. Worst.post.ever. Now you're defending Ozzie just to be...to be what? I don't get the unending Ozzie love. I don't care if Ozzie speaks the truth. A manager doesn't essentially say to the media that his team has no chance. He could have said something along the lines of, "Hopefully we go into Detroit and win the series" (sorry, I can't screw up the grammar enough). You applaud anything negative Ozzie has to say about these losers? There are a couple guys on this team that are way-underperforming, and the team as a whole hasn't played well. But the only loser is Ozzie because he talks trash about HIS OWN team...to the media! I can't do it anymore...why do I even respond to posts like this?

Hurricane Irene & the hurricane season
QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Sep 1, 2011 -> 02:41 PM) Is that the one Skilling has aimed at Louisana? I think that one will be named Lee (it's not a named storm yet). Katia is out in the Atlantic.

... it's about time
QUOTE (greg775 @ Sep 1, 2011 -> 01:39 PM) 1.) Exactly. I think he's a manager of the year candidate if we somehow finished five over .500 with so many guys having bad seasons. KW really is off the hook with some of you because he gave one quote that said Ozzie could bench the guys making money if he wanted to. it doesn't work that way. Dunn, Rios and Peavy are wastes of space that he had to play because of their salaries. 2.) A loose loud mouth? Ozzie hasn't even come close to blasting Dunn this season for his crappiness and he showed good compassion to Thornton this year when Matt was blowing game after game early on. He also never buried Juan. He's a player's manager. I think you guys are wrong for wanting to show Ozzie the door after he gained all this experience on the South Side. He's going to have a LaRussa like career before all is said and done in terms of longevity and he'll win some more WS as well. If he wins one or two more he could be considered one of the greatest managers of all time and at his age, there's a chance he could do that whether you guys believe it or not. No, no, no, no, for God's sake no! Even if nothing that has gone wrong could be blamed on Ozzie, he's not a manager of the year candidate. You can't be a manager of a team with a $125 million payroll that doesn't make the playoffs and even be anywhere near the words "manager of the year".

Hurricane Irene & the hurricane season
QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Sep 1, 2011 -> 01:21 PM) At what point does it become fair game to hope that Katia takes aim at Florida rather than turning north and re-hitting the Northeast? (Sorry Flaxx) Most models have Katia taking a turn towards the north and passing well east of the US. However, you never know. It's forecasted to slow down in forward speed, and when that happens figuring where it goes becomes more difficult. I remember a storm a few years back that just dawdled around in the Atlantic for a few days, actually making a loop. I'm going to have to look that one up...

That's White Sox loser
QUOTE (MexSoxFan#1 @ Sep 1, 2011 -> 10:02 AM) He won't because he can't, that was one of the dumbest moves I have ever seen a manager make... Earth to Ozzie, Dunn isn't just having an off year, his suckiness is historically bad, you do not PH Dunn for ANYONE at this point, numb nuts! FIRE OZZIE Maybe back in early July you could roll Dunn up there hoping he gets pitched around and draws a walk. Everybody in baseball, including bat boys and mascots, knows that Dunn cannot hit a baseball right now. Well, I guess everyone but Ozzie knows. If Dunn is having an historically bad year, Ozzie's move have Dunn PH was an historically bad move.

... it's about time
QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Aug 31, 2011 -> 07:22 PM) It did take Viciedo 3 AB to match Dunn's hit total vs. LHP this season. Wow. But in Dunn's defense, with him it's lefty vs. lefty, and with Viciedo it's...oh, nevermind.

That's White Sox loser
Rios has pissed me off all season because of his lack of hustle, his seemingly calavier attitude towards the game, and the fact that he's just terrible this year. I feel bad for Dunn, but I don't want to see him at the plate when the game is up to him. As far as Peavy, I don't think he'll ever be the same again. I really don't dislike him, although he seems to talk too much. Ozzie, however, just makes me want to bang my head against a wall, repeatedly. If his decision to bat Rios 4th AND PH Dunn for Lillibridge doesn't display his complete lack of managerial sense I don't know what will.

The best Rescue Me episode of the season last night. Too bad it's the next to last one.

2011 White Sox Catch-All Thread
QUOTE (greg775 @ Aug 30, 2011 -> 06:06 PM) Exactly. Chances are Ozzie will be a far better manager than whomever replaces him. I think it's too late however, for Oz or KW to save their jobs. They both will go or it will look like Jerry is favoring one over the other. Doubtful. Of course it depends on who replaces him (if he's even replaced), but there are better candidates out there.

8/30 GT - SOX vs Twins - 7:10pm CDT - CSN
QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ Aug 30, 2011 -> 02:46 PM) HaHaha yea that is hilarious to intentionally put out bad lineups to sabotage a team. So funny. And Ozzie will be so loved in Florida for whatever reason you may decide that makes no sens. HaHaHa, LOLZ, HaHaHa. *thumb points to greg775* Love this guy. So funny He's going to be loved in Florida because he's sassy and funny and loud and in your face and will still make bad decisions. Yeah, he'll be loved...for a couple seasons.

8/30 GT - SOX vs Twins - 7:10pm CDT - CSN
QUOTE (greg775 @ Aug 30, 2011 -> 01:46 PM) Isn't Wise's picture on the outfield wall where he made the best catch in Sox history? One great catch does not a great player make. Joe Borchard hit a 500 foot HR once. Doesn't make him a great hitter.

Williams On Hot Seat Too?
QUOTE (Marty34 @ Aug 30, 2011 -> 02:06 PM) I think Guillen should go. Bigger problem though is paying steak prices for hamburger talent. Good point, but KW thought he ordered the steak. He ended up with some 80/20 greasy hamburger.

5 reasons to still have hope
QUOTE (greg775 @ Aug 30, 2011 -> 01:32 PM) Don't forget, Detroit is playing KC. We have to win just to stay five back. KC has and can win games. And they enjoy being spoilers.

5 reasons to still have hope
QUOTE (pettie4sox @ Aug 30, 2011 -> 12:25 PM) Instead of speculating about how the movie ends, I generally just pop a bag a popcorn, sit back, and enjoy it. My thoughts exactly. However, I'd crack open a beer and leave the popcorn.

5 reasons to still have hope
With the additions of De Aza, Flowers, and Viciedo seemingly injecting some life into this team, the possibility certainly exists.

Dayan love on Twitter
Got a nice chuckle from some of those. I remember we were saying the same sort of stuff about Beckham when he first came up. I hope that doesn't jinx Viciedo.

2011 TV Thread
QUOTE (Felix @ Aug 29, 2011 -> 06:17 PM) He did get caught though, as was explained by Saul in the next scene. He had to pay out the ass to make it go away (although really, he can piss away money like nobody else). It's just another example of Walt becoming less and less careful. He's become an adrenaline junkie, and sooner or later it's going to come back to haunt him. I loved the scene when he was giving the money to Skylar. She was shocked that he makes so much money, and he's like "Well, 7 and a half to be exact, you know, before expenses."

2011 White Sox Catch-All Thread
QUOTE (greg775 @ Aug 29, 2011 -> 10:34 PM) Ouch. Ass clown? Is that hyperbole with just a blanket statement like that and no other comments about why you feel this way in relation to what Scoscia (sp) said?? I happen to think Oz is funny as hell. If somehow the Sox get hot in September ... man is it gonna be embarrassing when they show him the door at the end of the season. Ozzie can be entertaining, but being funny doesn't win ball games. If the Sox get hot and make the playoffs, I wouldn't be surprised if Ozzie is back next year. If the Sox get hot and still finish a couple games out, there's a better chance he goes. But I'm not sure he's going anywhere, regardless of what happens this year. But if he is shown the door, whether the Sox finish strong or not, it would not be embarrassing to the Sox. Well, I take that back. It would be embarrassing that it took them this long to get rid of him.

Young Guns prevail again ! WHite Sox winner !
Man is it fun to watch these games now. I'm particularly impressed with Tyler Flowers. His hitting is above and beyond what most of us expected, and it seems like he's built a great relationship with the pitchers. As far as his hitting, I've seen people say "sample size", and while I agree, that sample size is getting bigger and the hitting is still there. I didn't like seeing AJ go down with an injury, but that did result in us being able to see what Flowers can do.

Hurricane Irene & the hurricane season
The hurricane took the worst possible path through NC. It went right up the sound and pushed all the water out, then when the eye passed all the water came rushing back in. There were streets under 5 feet of water. My sister's house was flooded with about 3 feet of water in her utility room (most newer houses are built on pilings).

And that's a youth-led winner!
Great game. Flowers is impressive so far. I certainly hope he continues to play like he has. After next season, he will most likely be the starting catcher for the Sox. As soon as I saw Viciedo hit that HR I started laughing. His game today made the organization look foolish. In my mind there is no excuse for not bringing him up earlier. If he's not starting today, any respect I had for Ozzie will be gone.

What could've been in 2011...
QUOTE (greg775 @ Aug 29, 2011 -> 01:38 AM) Don't make it sound like Ozzie could just bench Dunn. Dunn is gonna be batting fourth for 4 seasons. And Rios as well. These guys will be playing because of their salaries. I don't care that KW had one quote about Oz not being forced to play anybody. You DO play those guys because of their salaries. KW kind of threw Oz under the bus with that quote. You can't bench guys making the kind of jack Dunn and Rios make as we will find out next year again with our new manager. And this board HATED Flowers. I soured on him just reading all the posts about how he was not a real prospect. p.s. You have to wonder if the presence of Dunn would sour any manager candidate on our opening. Well, it's too little too late, but Dunn has been riding the bench more often lately. And no, you do not have to play a guy because of his salary. KW said the right thing, Ozzie didn't do it. But the real problem in my mind is that KW never called Ozzie on it afterwards.

Tyler Flowers' grand slam
QUOTE (greg775 @ Aug 29, 2011 -> 02:51 AM) Ozzie haters who say he throws players under the bus (which is absurd) must watch the replay of Flowers and Dayan's homers today. He hits Viciedo on the shoulder and also greets Flowers after the bombs. It's unfair to say he doesn't like the young players. Watch the dugout greeting after the bombs. I am gonna miss Ozzeroo. I'm not sure what this post means. Why wouldn't he congratulate his players after a HR? And how could a manager throw a player who hit a grand slam under the bus? I've mentioned this before, your love for Ozzie is commending, but now you're just reaching for reasons to sing his praises.
