2011 TV Thread
QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Aug 2, 2011 -> 12:26 PM) No Breaking Bad thoughts yet? Skylar is awesomely evil, and I can't wait to see how Jesse spirals out. The show never disappoints. I love how Skylar has not only accepted Walt's lifestyle but has dove right in. Jesse's spiraling out of control pretty quick. I guess when you kill a guy then watch another guy get his throat cut right in front of you, you might have a tendency to lose your s***. Definitely a darker season so far.

Adam Dunn Makes New York Times Front Page
Very good article. I hope, for the Sox sake and his own, that he improves a lot next season.

Are you in or out?
QUOTE (Paint it Black @ Aug 2, 2011 -> 11:11 PM) So who is everyone else picking to be their teams to root for over the next 3 months? For me AL: Texas - I love watching this team. Power, speed, young arms. A lots more talent still to come NL - Atlanta - Again with the young arms. I'm tired of the Phillies and Giants. I would pick Milwaukee but has anybody seen the left side of their infield? Their pen? yeeessshhhh AL - I like Texas as well. NL - Pittsburgh. I grew up a Pirates fan, but I haven't had a reason to cheer for them (except when they play the Cubs) in almost 20 years. I don't know if they can pull off a division win, but a winning season looks promising.

2011 White Sox Catch-All Thread
I couldn't even watch the game last night. Once it was 4-0, it looked the offense got even worse. I'm not saying the offense scoring a few runs would have made a difference in last night's game (Danks just didn't have it), but they were just flat. No effort, no spark, nothing. On Monday, Peavy pitched well enough to win. But, again, no offense. In two games, my thoughts on this season have shifted. I'm not saying I was sure they could take the division, but I certainly had higher hopes than I do now. Unless they come out and win these next two games convincingly, it's going to be hard for me to really give a damn.

A response....
Very good response, Lauren. As others have said, even if we were disappointed in Mark's performance on the field, he was genuinely liked. It's too bad more professional atheletes aren't like him. As far as the whole Twitter debacle, even if Mark didn't direct the post at Oney, it's interesting that Oney assumed it was about him. His reaction and subsequent posts show what type of person he truly is. To attack a player's wife is deplorable, and it's embarrassing to have someone like that associated with the White Sox. I think most, if not all of us, on SoxTalk can say they are not embarrased to have had Mark associated with the White Sox. Good luck in Toronto.

Sox vs Damned Yankees 8-2 game thread
QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Aug 2, 2011 -> 02:56 PM) @MDGonzales Mark Gonzales Sox lineup: Pierre lf, Vizquel 3b, quentin DH, Dunn 1b, Ramirez ss, AJ c, Rios cf, De Aza rf, Beckham 2b, Danks p My kids do this kind of stuff. I tell them no more candy, and then I see them sneak into the kitchen and get some candy after I told them NO! Why the hell is Rios in the lineup?

Teahen Vs. Oney on Twitter
Regardless of who started this latest Twitter crap, is there any other manager who creates so much nonsense through the social media, be it from himself or a family member? I saw someon'e post saying Oney's Tweets were deleted. Is it too much to think that Ozzie told him to do that? Probably. Stuff like this is embarrassing for the Sox. And look at our response. 260+ posts about this crap. If only this damn team would start playing baseball and start winning some games, the child-like antics of the manager's kid wouldn't be such a big deal.

QUOTE (Milkman delivers @ Aug 2, 2011 -> 10:03 AM) It is like arguing with a brick wall with graffiti in broken sentences and bad grammar on it. I don't know why people continue to respond. I guess we're hoping we can bring the wall down. "Mr. Greg! Tear down this wall!"

2011 White Sox Catch-All Thread
QUOTE (BigSqwert @ Aug 2, 2011 -> 08:36 AM) Kenny promoted De Aza and Ozzie keeps trotting Rios out there even though he's gone out of his way to play like he doesn't want to be here. You see this, I see this, but some just don't. I don't get it. Ozzie once benched Rios because he was loafing. Now he's back out there every game even though KW brought up a replacement.

2011 White Sox Catch-All Thread
QUOTE (greg775 @ Aug 2, 2011 -> 01:15 AM) Once again, it proves we have a pennant winning pitching staff. How grown baseball men could sit back and make no additions/changes when two overpaid guys like Dunn and Rios have to play is beyond me. That's 2/9s of the lineup being an automatic out with 3B, 2B and SS also horrible this season. And they make no changes. Who cares if the pitching staff is "pennant winning" when the team is mis-managed? Dunn and Rios don't HAVE to play. KW said the players that give the team the best chance to win will play. Ozzie didn't listen. Rios is still being trotted out there. And why would you say SS has been horrible? Alexei has actually been pretty good. And not to defend Beckham's lackluster offense, but having him and Alexei in the middle infield gives the team the best chance to win.
-
Who's Worse?
Ozzie, and it's not even close in my opinion. KW hasn't made the best trades, but Ozzie can't manage the players that he's given. His handling of the pitching staff is horrendous, I'm sick of seeing this team play like a scrappy NL team, and if I see Alex Rios in the lineup again I'm going to vomit. More than anything, I'm just sick of him and his family. I'm just baffled that he still has a job with the way he butts heads with KW.

8/1 Yankees @ Sox 7:10
That lineup makes me sad. I just bet a 12-pack of Blue Moon on the series. I should probably go to the store now.

Ludwick to Pittsburgh
QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Aug 1, 2011 -> 06:43 AM) Not now. Eventually, if the White Sox are eliminated. As long as it's not the Twins. Verlander could actually put a scare into the Yankees in a short series. It would be hard for me to root for any team from the Central, but if there was a team I'd root for over the Red Sox or Yankees it would be the Indians.

2011 White Sox Catch-All Thread
The lack of stuff happening at the trade deadline and the fact that the Sox lost 2 of 3 to the Red Sox really tempered my enthusiasm for this team. That and the fact that Ozzie is still putting Rios out there regardless of what KW said. The next four games will be very telling for this team. They have to split this series at a minimum. I don't have to say what this board will look like if the Yankees sweep.

Ozzie confirms Rios will be in lineup tomorrow
QUOTE (BigSqwert @ Aug 1, 2011 -> 09:31 AM) I'm equally annoyed that our manager continues to trot him out there. This is what pisses me off the most. So, KW says it doesn't matter how much money a guy is making, the guy who gives the team the best chance to win will play. Rios in no way gives the team the best chance to win. De Aza or Lillibridge in center are better options if only because they will hustle and actually try.

Ozzie confirms Rios will be in lineup tomorrow
QUOTE (greg775 @ Jul 31, 2011 -> 01:07 PM) He gets it. He knows he gets paid no matter what and he doesn't care about earning the check if it means hustling. He thinks he's smooth and graceful and above getting sweaty. He's a dog. And to make matters worse, Ozzie keeps putting him out there. Why did KW even bother saying that they will play the best players? Obviously that's not what's going on. I'm okay with Rios getting a start here and there and being a defensive replacement, but he's not the guy who gives the team the best chance to win. I put that solely on Ozzie's head.

BoSox @ ChiSox 7/29/11 Gamethread (7:10 CT/8:10 ET)
QUOTE (ChiSox_Sonix @ Jul 29, 2011 -> 01:39 PM) Well Omar is 21-59 against Wakefield for his career with an .818 OPS Also, you'd have to think this is the kind of pitcher Dunn would have no problems with right? You'd think. That long swing should have plenty of time to catch up to the knuckleball.

Quentin sought after by BOS
The Pirates were mentioned once a possible suitor, but I find that hard to believe. They could make a minor move, like for Derrick Lee. However, they must have a decent farm system since they've been in a rebuilding phase longer than many SoxTalk posters have been alive.

Rumor: Rios/Thornton to Brewers for Gamel?
I agree this trade makes no sense to either side, except to rid the Sox of an anchor of a contract. But what the hell would the Brewers want with a guy like Rios?
