Mac vs. PC
My computer at home is slowly dying, and it's about time to get a new one. We've always had PCs, but I've started looking at Macs, most likely an iMac. We use the computer mainly for internet and iTunes. Only occasionaly do we use Word or Excel. I've done some research, and it seems like the extra money for a Mac is worth it, but I was wondering if anyone here has any input. Has anyone had both PCs and Macs? Which is better? What do you recommend?

Jerry must be so proud
QUOTE (greg775 @ Jul 13, 2011 -> 10:41 PM) It doesn't matter that somebody might be offended by this thread? I don't know that they'd be offended by the thread. By some of the posts, sure. But there were posts that offended many of us. I do wonder how many gay people would say that Beckham's actions offended them.

QUOTE (greg775 @ Jul 13, 2011 -> 11:35 PM) I thought this was one of my posts the way it looked in post format. I did, too, Greg. I thought maybe you had another account. If that were the case you could have started arguing with yourself.

Here on out, what do you think should be done with Sale?
They're going to have to do something different than what they've been doing so far. I like the idea of him starting eventually, but a current starting pitcher (or two) will have to be traded before that'll happen. In a case like Sale, how long would it take him to adjust to starting?

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jul 13, 2011 -> 08:08 AM) Its really too bad this thread got going again. It had really hit a nice breaking point. Instead it will probably end up getting people in trouble. Maybe it should be closed. I think we're going in circles here. I'm not going to change the mids of those that don't agree with me, and my mind isn't going to be changed. Who would have thought that Beckham horsing around with a fellow 2nd baseman would create a thread like this?

It's been argued throughout this thread about whether being gay is a choice. I'm still baffled by those who think it is. I have a cousin who is gay...like flaming gay (he'd tell you that, so it's not an insult), and we all knew he was gay when we were kids. I can't imagine an 8-year old kid saying, "I think I'm going to be gay when I grow up."

This may be one of the best threads ever...and to think it was closed once.

QUOTE (Y2HH @ Jul 12, 2011 -> 02:42 PM) (Hawk accent in effect) Well, I'll tell ya Stone Pony...back when I was playin' with the Carbines...(very long pause)...when we'd come up to bat...a pitcher wouldn't throw outside and only outside...cuz they knew we'd just start leanin' over the plate. Guys didn't just stand in one place in that batters box like they do today...it's a game of adjustments, Pony... Adjustments. Look at Paulie...constantly making adjustments...and that's how you get a 14,000 sq foot house in Scottsdale...adjustments. I haven't laughed that hard in a while, thanks.

QUOTE (BigSqwert @ Jul 12, 2011 -> 02:39 PM) And we're back.... Tonight's Ford Drive of the Game goes to Brent Morel with his 3rd inning towering pop up to the 2nd baseman. "But he just missed that one, dag gum it"

Sox fielding calls for Edwin Jackson
QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ Jul 12, 2011 -> 02:00 PM) well please, be creative and show us how it could work Rasmus for Rios, Jackson, and the Goose Island Brewery...oh, wait

If this is what happens when the Sox have four days off, what's going to happen in the off-season?

QUOTE (Steve9347 @ Jul 12, 2011 -> 12:33 PM) No way he would! All gay people do is try to hit on J4L and have sex in front of him and swap out his Jenna Jameson porns for gay porns. And don't act like that's not what you meant, because those are the three main concerns you've raised in this thread. Oh, and then there was that happy picture you painted of forever being disappointed in a future child if he or she dared "choose" to be gay.

QUOTE (Jenksismyb**** @ Jul 12, 2011 -> 12:11 PM) 99% is probably high, but I bet if you did a poll the vast, vast majority would agree that they would hope that their kid was not gay, regardless of their views on homosexuality and regardless of how they think they'd act as a parent in that situation. Fact of the matter is that life is incredibly difficult and parents (or people who want to be parents) want their kids to live the easiest life possible. QUOTE (StrangeSox @ Jul 12, 2011 -> 12:14 PM) You're switching what's being discussed here, though. He's not saying "I wouldn't want my kid to be gay because he'd have to deal with bigoted assholes and would have a harder life," he's saying it because he'd be ashamed and disgusted. Which is part of the problem of gays having to deal with bigoted assholes. Jenks - I agree with you. As a father, I wouldn't want my kids to have a difficult life. And unfortunately, a person who is gay ( not by choice!) will more than likely have more difficulties than one who is straight. Strange - You hit the nail on the head.

QUOTE (StrangeSox @ Jul 12, 2011 -> 11:23 AM) Girls "experiment" in college to get attention from guys, though you probably have to be legitimately bi-sexual to do anything more than kissing. Oh, I agree. And it certainly gets our attention. But I was alluding to what you said...a girl would more than likely be bi-sexual at a minimum to go beyond kissing.

QUOTE (Jordan4life @ Jul 12, 2011 -> 11:01 AM) Hey, you gotta take the good with the bad when you make that choice. And I'll never believe for a second that people are born gay. GMAB. Mankind would end if everybody were gay. I believe it's a combination of environment, influences, lack of a strong male figure, boredom, curiosity (this is almost always the case with women), etc. I have all sorts of issues with this post, but to each his own. However, I think the curiousity "reason" why some women are gay is more myth than anything. I firmly believe that if someone is born gay, that's the way they are. It's not a choice.

One phrase I keep seeing is "they choose". I'm no expert, but I have a few relatives that are gay, and they didn't choose to be gay. They are attracted to the same sex just as I'm attracted to the opposite sex. Someone could choose to "be gay" if they were straight but decided to be with the same sex, but then they wouldn't truly be gay...they would just be pretending.

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jul 12, 2011 -> 09:18 AM) I think I have figured out that watching Adam Dunn hit lefties is what it must feel like to be a Cub fan. You know what is going to happen, and yet you still watch and hold out this little bit of hope that this will be the time! Ugh. That's a very good analogy. I guess we should be thankful that it's only one player we feel that way about vs. the whole team. However...

2011 White Sox Catch-All Thread
QUOTE (Chicago White Sox @ Jul 11, 2011 -> 06:19 PM) I find it hilarious that people think we'd get nothing for Jackson. SP is always expensive at the deadline and while Jackson isn't a world-beater, he can eat some innings and potentially have a dominating stretch like he did for us last year. The rental factor hurts, but like everyone has said the type B compensation helps make up for it. Someone will give you something of value for Jackson. We won't be getting a Hudson/Holmberg package, but I could easily see one desperate team giving us a top 100 prospect for him. What other SPs will be available? Which ones are far more valuable than Jackson? Like always, supply will drive up of a mediocre, yet talented pitcher. Jackson isn't pitching like it was thought (by many, not just the Sox) he should. It was the rental factor I was thinking about when I proposed we couldn't get much for him. I'm not well versed in the Type A vs. Type B compensation stuff, but I see now that we should get something halfway decent. No matter what, though, it does look like the trade for him was a dud.

QUOTE (since56 @ Jul 12, 2011 -> 05:59 AM) 5 games back at the break with a veteran team. Lets not read the eulogy yet. Detroit? Cleveland? Minnesota? Not exactly dynasties. You're right. But has this team shown any signs of being able to take over the division? They just lost 5 of 7 to the two team behind them in the standings, including the Twins who they can never beat. Unless something changes (mentality-wise), the Twins have a good chance to overtake the Sox in the next month or so.

Not that it should surprise anyone, but Heyman is reporting the Sox are fielding calls on Jackson. I don't imagine they'd get much back for him.
