  1. I haven't found a hot chili that I really like yet. My biggest problem is that I don't like chili with beans, and a lot of places only offer chili with beans. Although it's not super hot, Lindy's makes a decent beef chili. I have an awesome recipe for a Texas chili (no beans) that uses chuck, bacon, a dozen jalapenos, chili powder, and honey porter. It's pretty hot, but has a very nice flavor thanks to the beer and some brown sugar at the end.
  2. QUOTE (Brian @ Oct 11, 2010 -> 11:46 AM) I had trouble following some things last night. Midge? Really? All the way from the first 3 episodes of the series? That probably confused a lot of people and didn't they end badly? I read up and the ending sets up an interesting finale. Yeah, Midge threw me for a minute. My wife asked who it was, then I figured it out when she started talking about art. I wonder if anything else will come of that, or was that just another piece to show wkat kind of man Draper is. The finale should be great. Looking forward to that.
  3. One of the best episodes of Mad Men last night. Next week is the season finale. Waiting for the next season will be tough.
  4. QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Oct 8, 2010 -> 10:17 AM) Well, to be fair, bad umpiring did affect your team in the playoffs, and as a direct result, they won a World Series. I'm just glad I'm not an Angels or Astros fan. Good point. I guess we always look at the bad calls that adversely affect our team. Bad calls that go the other way are usually ignored.
  5. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Oct 8, 2010 -> 10:42 AM) Blech. Can't argue with you there. I won't get it again.
  6. QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ Oct 8, 2010 -> 06:43 AM) Not sure where this should go, but how about all the blown calls going down so far? - Golson clearly catches the ball in the 9th, ump rules it a trap - Michael Young's checked swing non-call, hits a 3-run homer the next pitch - Berkman gets a 4th strike, crushes a big double next pitch (found 31 bad ball/strike calls by Wendelstedt last night) - Posey is out stealing, called safe, scores the only run in a 1-0 SF victory It's like deja vu all over again from last year I was just thinking about the bad umpiring so far. It has to be a concern. We saw enough bad umpiring during the regular season (although most of what we saw was the Joe West crew being assholes). I'd be pissed if those bad calls were affecting my team in the playoffs.
  7. Applebee's has a burger with candied jalapenos and a bunch of other spicy stuf.. Not bad, but tore my stomach up.
  8. QUOTE (greg775 @ Oct 7, 2010 -> 10:40 PM) It's amazing they were hot the whole second half, the entire way, until they clinched. Then they finally sucked and the Sox went 9-2 down the stretch to finish only six back. I know that has nothing to do with their current faceplant, but why the f*** couldn't Minnesota have their cooling off period at some other point the second half. Unless a miracle happens, Minnesota is toast. I guess their fans can blame the loss of Morneau but they've been w/out him a long time. Remember that the Sox went 8-2 in their last ten and MN went 2-8. I think their streak just continued into the post season. You're right that it's very frustrating...if only they had slumped about 2 or 3 weeks earlier. The sad thing is that if the Sox had won the central, they might be the ones down 0-2 to the Yankees.
  9. I'm not surprised that the Sox are "targeting" Crawford. Why wouldn't they? The trouble is, like many other posters have said, the Sox most likely cannot compete with a few other teams out there that would spend a lot more to get him. The Sox may very well make an offer, and they may actually offer more years than they typically do. But, I can't see them offering more than $12-$15 million per season. A few other teams out there wouldn't hesitate to offer $18 million+ a year for 4 or 5 years. Someone else mentioned that Dunn would be a nice consolation prize. Absolutely, but he'd want to play 1st base. Maybe the Sox will go after him as their new 1st baseman. That would probably mean Paulie's not coming back though. Can you imagine how small Dunn would make the Cell look? Wow.
  10. Terriers gets better every week.
  11. Everybody would probably skip the X if they had the choice.
  12. Spam is a very popular food in Hawaii.
  13. Looks like the Phillies got themselves a decent pitcher in Halladay.
  14. QUOTE (BigSqwert @ Oct 6, 2010 -> 10:54 AM) If anyone voted Blair Witch or Paranormal Activity I may consider putting them on ignore. I did include Paranormal Activity, but not The Blair Witch Project. I thought Paranormal was a much better movie than Blair Witch. Things that go bump in the night scare me more than monsters and the like, and I thought they did a good job with Paranormal. I think I may have forgotten some other films, though. I'm sure I'll kick myself when the countdown comes out.
  15. I would like to see Wes Craven's new 3D horror flick.
  16. QUOTE (Brian @ Oct 5, 2010 -> 03:23 PM) Finally got around to watching last week's TERRIERS. This show is great and I will post this every week til all you bums start watching. It's one of the best shows on right now. I hope viewership catches on...FX poorly marketed that show.
  17. QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ Oct 5, 2010 -> 08:39 AM) So the reason Jenks blew a 3-run lead in Minnesota is because he respects the Twins and doesnt hate them? And Matt Thornton wouldn't have grooved a pitch to Thome in the 10th if he just held a little more anger towards him & the Twins. Maybe then instead of working with Gavin on how to pitch more consistently, we should spend time every day making him dislike the Twins more and more, then he won't s*** the bed against them 3 teams in a month. As intense as the Yankees/Red Sox rivalry is, I really don't think the players hate each other, and I'm sure there is a lot of mutual respect between the two teams. Let's not forget that those are two of the most talented teams in the league year in and year out, so every year they are competing to be the best in a super tough division or they are playing in the playoffs, which increases the intensity of every matchup. Yes. That is a very accurate statement. Come on, I didn't say there had to be hate. The Sox just fold when they are up against the Twins. Look at the Red Sox/Yankee rivalry. You don't see one team just collapsing on a regular basis. I think the Sox go into games against the Twins with a defeatist attitude too often. I don't know how you change that. Apparently the Sox don't either. But they need to figure out how to beat the Twins, or October 2nd (or so) will be the last day of the season more often than not.
  18. QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ Oct 5, 2010 -> 08:00 AM) Figure out how to have one of the top two payrolls in baseball??? I think he was saying it's time to stop respecting the Twins and start treating them like true rivals...like the Red Sox and Yankees do to each other.
  19. QUOTE (elrockinMT @ Oct 4, 2010 -> 09:54 AM) You win or LOSE as a team I agree 100%. The White Sox failed when it counted against the Twins, and when they played in Baltimore, and for the first two months on the season... I'd be willing to bet that just about every player failed at a crucial (or at least important) moment sometime during the season. You can look at specific moments and say that Konerko failed here and Jenks failed here and Quentin failed here. But the long and the short of it is that the team failed to win the division because of a poor start, their inability to beat teams within the division, and their inability to play well against the team that mattered the most...the Twins.
  20. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Oct 4, 2010 -> 11:25 AM) Teams that could use a 1b upgrade (without thinking about available funds): Chicago Cubs Atlanta Braves Texas Rangers San Francisco Giants Tampa Bay Rays Chicago Blue Jays Washington Nationals Baltimore Orioles Cleveland Indians Teams that might think about it if they could move someone else first and get PK14 at 1/2 the price of the guy they're moving Los Angeles Dodgers Milwaukee Brewers San Diego Padres Boston Red Sox Los Angeles Angels Arizona Diamondbacks You're right. I think there will be plenty of interest in Konerko. How many teams would be able to afford him, I don't know. If Konerko returns to the Sox, I wouldn't be surprised if it's for slightly less than another offer. I think (and hope) that JR gets involved again and brings him back. By the way, I didn't know the Blue Jays were unhappy in Toronto.
  21. Imagine if the team hadn't started so poorly, and Peavy didn't go down, and Quentin hadn't under-performed, and... Frustrating isn't it? Many of us predicted around 88 wins, not thinking of the bad things that happened.
  22. Had Cobain not killed himself, we probably wouldn't have the Foo Fighters to enjoy.
  23. Everlong is a good song by the Foo Fighters.
  24. I was watching the game with my son, and I said "wouldn't it be cool if Paulie hit a grand slam?" Awesome. I really hope he's back, obviously for the right kind of money (2 yrs/$20 million or so). But he made some comments about the Sox needing to make improvements on and off the field. I hope they do, and Paulie realizes that. Only time will tell. And I too look forward to posts by elgonzo4sox. That sig is quite distracting.
