  1. I don't think this is White Flag stuff. It's not like it's Jackson and Teahen for prospects alone. Frasor is a good pitcher with a decent option for next year. If there is no money going to the Jays for Teahen, it'll be a better deal but still not great. I would think that this is step one of a series of deals, but many of us thought that about the Hudson for Jackson deal.
  2. QUOTE (kapzk @ Jul 27, 2011 -> 09:22 AM) some tweeters are questing whether its Teahen for Frasor + prospect which noway in hell do I see the Jays accept a trade for. That would be a steal for the Sox, especially if the Sox didn't have to send any money. I agree that it sounds quite unlikely.
  3. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Jul 27, 2011 -> 06:59 AM) Its amazing when he pitches he sucks but if he's getting traded he so valuable. If Edwin Jackson for 2 months is worth as much as a lot of people claim, they really shouldn't be complaining about losing Daniel Hudson for him. That's what I don't understand. If this trade were to go down, and the Sox don't send any cash for Teahen, I don't mind the deal. And as far as talking about Hudson, he's not part of tis proposed deal because he's not part of the Sox organization. Can't live in the past, even though hindsight is 20/20. KW has to work with what he has, and we as fans have to accept that.
  4. I don't understand. On ESPN they were sayimg the Sox need to fix the bullpen, and they are going after some big name closers. I thought the bullpen was the least of the team's problems...
  5. QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ Jul 21, 2011 -> 09:09 AM) This thread reminds me of the simpsons episode when he made the pig for dinner, and the pig shot out the window, down the street, in the gutter, and finally shot into the ocean or whatever, and the whole time Homer is following it saying "Its still ok, we can still eat it, its still ok, i can clean it off"
  6. QUOTE (greg775 @ Jul 21, 2011 -> 12:08 AM) 1.) Well that's good. I did not think you were giving him any credit at all for the WS title. I may be giving him too much credit, but I have said I applaud the players that year as well. they deserve MORE credit than Ozzie. Players win games. They played hard. They wanted it. This year's team doesn't want it. Maybe they are sick of Ozzeroo. They appear to be. I'm convinced we won't have him around much longer so we'll see next season. 2.) My point is these moves in games are not unique to Ozzie. Most managers make the same type in-game decisions. Yes, he's done a poor job this year because his team appears to sleepwalk. But no manager could win with this anemic offense. The question is whether it's Ozzie's fault so many players can't hit this year. Dunno. but I wouldn't think so. I'm just saying it's a shame it's not working out with Ozzie long term because the lessons learned here are going to serve him well in his new gig. I don't know. Ozzie is about as stubborn as they come. The lessons learned so far here haven't served him well. He still makes the same bad decisions, and in my opinion he's only gotten worse.
  7. QUOTE (Wanne @ Jul 21, 2011 -> 12:45 AM) I'd say Drew is done for the season... that makes my butthole pucker seein' that.... Christ! That's horrible!
  8. OK, look, there’s no way Dunn, Rios and Morel will continue to be this bad. They’ll either play better or Ozzie will start playing other guys. I wish this were true, I really do.
  9. QUOTE (BigSqwert @ Jul 20, 2011 -> 07:24 AM) I don't know why you guys bother with greg. I posted this in another thread to him and it still holds true. You will never change his opinion on Ozzie: Wow, you hit the nail on the head there. I could definitely see that scenario happening.
  10. QUOTE (greg775 @ Jul 20, 2011 -> 03:16 AM) 1.) Oh, cmon Hurt, you are giving the manager of a WS team no credit. Oz will be better off in Florida with a lot of fans agreeing with you. Our fanbase doesn't deserve him if fans truthfully believe we won in spite of him. My gosh I wish I could be the type of fan you are. I truly believe you are misguided to think the skipper, the man who makes out the lineups, the man who makes all the calls had nothing to do with our success and was a 'dimwit.' You want him gone. Fine. But IMO your comments about that season are misguided. No credit to the manager? Well I'll go the other way and say he did a GREAT job managing that team and the players were great as well. 2.) You want me to go through all those close games in the postseason and state my case for Ozzie's managing? Please. Do we really want me to do that? We lost one game that postseason and many of the games were close. I think he did a nice job. 3.) He has the last laugh. He has Chicago's only WS title since the dark ages and he's gonna be let go. That truly is laughable. 4.) Maybe I contradict myself but yes he deserves the boot for his performance this year. But I'll never say he's not a great manager and I think it's sad he'll be managing in Florida next year. End of a good era. Again, Greg, I commend your unending support of Ozzie. But I just don't understand it. You clearly state that it's the players' fault that this year is so bad, but you give Ozzie all the credit for 2005. I think we all realize that no amount of blunders and mis-managing by Ozzie will change your mind that he was the best manager the Sox ever had. But he manages this team like it's an NL team, he makes lineups that often don't make sense, and he falls in love with some players and plays them over better candidates (Kotsay, Pierre). If Ozzie is gone some time this season or after this season, many of us will be happy. You'll be sad, and you'll firmly believe that the next team with Ozzie at the helm will be the next best team. To each his own, I guess.
  11. It's so hot I'm sweating more than a dog s***ting tacks.
  12. Someone may have mentioned this before, but the Pirates may be buyers this year. I wonder if with it being so long since they were in contention that they may overpay for some players. I know the Sox may not be buyers or sellers, but they could be an interesting trade partner.
  13. QUOTE (greg775 @ Jul 17, 2011 -> 06:32 PM) Yeah we're better off without the only guy to win a WS in Chicago since the dark ages. We're better off with a guy Florida would do anything to get. He'll have the last laugh as in about 30 years he'll probably still be the only manager to win a WS in Chicago since the dark ages. p.s. It's Ozzie's fault that Dunn is a joke; Rios is a joke; Peavy is an albatross and the team couldn't get a clutch hit if the ball was put on a tee. All you guys that think he's a buffoon because of certain pitching changes, bunting, not bunting, etc., will have the same complaints when we lose a game with our next manager. It's the nature of the game. blame the manager. And I agree with Wolf. KW better follow Ozzie to the curb when Oz takes the Florida job for next season. And I'm not an Ozzie apologist. The right thing to do would have been to fire Ozzie in May after that horrific start. That start was inexcusable with our payroll. I still think he's a great manager, but he should have been fired then to kick-start his Florida career. *sigh* Greg, Greg, Greg. I actually admire your support of Ozzie. You always back him up and make sometimes convincing arguments that he shouldn't be fired. But, today you followed up your support of him saying he should have been fired back in May. That, at least, is something most of us can agree upon. As far as the argument that he's the only manager to get a championship for the Sox in years, we've got to stop comparing 2005 to every year since. That team was unique, and there are other managers besides Ozzie that could have led that team to a championship. In years since, there's been more talent on occassion (this year included), but nothing has happened with these teams. Some of that, maybe a lot of it, has to come back on the manager. Granted, KW has made some bad moves. But Ozzie has made a ton of bad in-game moves. I still like KW better than Ozzie, but as time goes on I'm thinking both need to go. To me, however, a manager change needs to happen...soon. And as far as letting him kick-start his career with Florida? Who cares? I'm sure that KW and JR don't give a crap about Ozzie wanting to manage in Florida. I think they'd like him to manage here in Chicago since thats who pays him.

    QUOTE (Steve9347 @ Jul 17, 2011 -> 05:47 PM) You're on vacation. At a resort. I think you'll live. Yeah, I'd take the vacation at a resort. It's why they invented DVRs.
  15. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jul 14, 2011 -> 09:22 AM) If someone would take on the contracts of Dunn and Rios, regardless of whether the Sox have immediate replacements for them, the Sox should do that solely to rid themselves of the contracts, because in the event of a total rebuild, that money will be extremely useful. In my opinion, ridding themselves of Rios (and his contract) would be more important. I say that only because I do believe Dunn will rebound, although maybe not this year. I just can't stand watching Rios anymore. He doesn't try. But, you're absolutely right that the money from either or both contracts would be useful. Maybe a total rebuild is in the cards for the Sox, but it's hard for me to imagine KW thinking like that. However, maybe he'll see that the hodge podge of talent he threw together this year isn't cutting it. At least a team full of young players with potential would be more exciting than what's going on now.
  16. QUOTE (greg775 @ Jul 14, 2011 -> 02:40 PM) Making no changes at all is KW's last attempt at making himself look good. This is the team he put together and now that it's the second half he's just magically hoping it takes off and sweeps Detroit and is ready for a pennant push the entire second half. It's very misguided. Why should it change when we just got killed at home by two Central teams? When Detroit sweeps us, is that all it's finally going to take to bring up Dayan at least? I'd expect a no hitter to a three hitter from Verlander in Game One. Every year it's the team he put together, and he has to realize that things aren't going the way they should. I don't think he'll make a lot of moves, but he'll do something. If the month continues miserable for the next week or two I think (and hope) the selling will begin. I don't see a big run in this team, but I could be wrong. I see them hovering around .500 ball and only a few changes being made.
  17. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jul 14, 2011 -> 02:18 PM) You were saying something about swings and misses? Adam Dunn-esque
  18. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jul 14, 2011 -> 12:25 PM) I'm just wondering what they'll do if they come out and go .500 for the next 1.5 weeks. That might be the worst scenario. It's sad to say that we'd rather have a really bad stretch over a mediocre one. But it's the truth. If this team looks no different (player-wise) come August 1, it's going to be very disappointing.
  19. QUOTE (fathom @ Jul 14, 2011 -> 11:24 AM) I'm not saying Cotts got lucky with a lot of hard hit balls at defenders (that would have been Hermanson). Rather, I can't believe a lefty who throws 91 mph high fastballs nearly every pitch only allowed one homer all year. It was probably the hair.

Wow, great feedback so far. Thanks! I figured most folks who have used both would recommend the Mac. I suppose my biggest concern is money. But everything I've heard about the Macs is that they are worth every extra penny. I'm just so sick of having a slow computer. All I want to do is surf the web quickly and download music quickly.

My computer at home is slowly dying, and it's about time to get a new one. We've always had PCs, but I've started looking at Macs, most likely an iMac. We use the computer mainly for internet and iTunes. Only occasionaly do we use Word or Excel. I've done some research, and it seems like the extra money for a Mac is worth it, but I was wondering if anyone here has any input. Has anyone had both PCs and Macs? Which is better? What do you recommend?
  22. QUOTE (greg775 @ Jul 13, 2011 -> 10:41 PM) It doesn't matter that somebody might be offended by this thread? I don't know that they'd be offended by the thread. By some of the posts, sure. But there were posts that offended many of us. I do wonder how many gay people would say that Beckham's actions offended them.

Good premiere of Rescue Me last night.
  24. QUOTE (greg775 @ Jul 13, 2011 -> 11:35 PM) I thought this was one of my posts the way it looked in post format. I did, too, Greg. I thought maybe you had another account. If that were the case you could have started arguing with yourself.
  25. They're going to have to do something different than what they've been doing so far. I like the idea of him starting eventually, but a current starting pitcher (or two) will have to be traded before that'll happen. In a case like Sale, how long would it take him to adjust to starting?
