Seeing a player dog it pisses me off much more than seeing a player like Dunn go through a (very long) slump. There's the skill vs. will theory that can be applied to just about any job, and those that lack the will shouldn't have that job.

Anybody watching Off Limits on the Travel Channel? Pretty interesting if you're into exploring abandoned buildings, old mines, ghost towns, etc. That stuff has always fascinated me.

I haven't seen the new Transformers movie but plan on doing so soon. I've taken my son to see the other two, and we both enjoyed them. I'll agree that the first was better than the second. I don't see the reason for having Ebert even review a Michael Bay movie. He does not like the director, and I remember a few personal jabs towards Bay in his review of Transformers II. For a movie like Transformers or X-Men or the like, I'll read movie-goer reviews on Yahoo before I put any stock in a review by the likes of Roger Ebert. If I want to see explosions and robots beating the crap out of each other, I'm going to turn my brain off, grab a bucket of popcorn, and enjoy.

I'm glad to hear Rios was benched for lack of hussle. I've seen it a few times already, including some DPs he should have easily beat out. As for Lillibridge's play at the end, my first reaction was that there was no hussle, and even a little giddy up would have made a much closer play. I don't want to believe Lillibridge was loafing, but I think it's pretty evident he wasn't hussling. Compare his reaction to that ball to those spectacular catches he's made this year. It wasn't the same outfielder. Ozzie's 100% right they deserved to lose that game. I didn't even watch the whole thing and I saw more than a handful of wasted chances. If it wasn't for the pitching, they wouldn't have been in that game at all. And someone pointed out that the Sox have scored 3 or less runs in 49% of their games? That points out the miserable offense and the good pitching...without the pitching, this team is much further back.

This thread has been an entertaining read. The negative comments are still going to be out there, and I'm assuming (hoping) that once in a while in game threads isn't going to get a poster warned or suspended. I mean, if Juan Pierre steps up to bat with the bases loaded and two outs, how many of us as NOT thinking, "Here comes an out"? Someone's going to post that because we're all saying it to a friend, the wife, the kids, the wall, etc. As I said before, I understand where the mods are comiing from, and I agree. But a random comment here and there shouldn't start a riot.

It's not so much the negativity that bothers me. Hell, it has been hard to not be negative so far this season. The personal attacks have no place here though. And, as several posters have already mentioned, we see more personal attacks aimed at those posting negative stuff or posts that are all sunshine and lollipops. I'll say one thing, I don't need to see another thread about how bad Juan Pierre or Adam Dunn are. We all know. I doubt Juan and Adam read this site, so we're just preaching to each other. And even if the players do read this site, do we really think they'd give a damn what we think?

I had to read through the thread to get the gist of the rules. I saw "enough with the hyperbole", and said "huh?" But I agree. The negativity has been overwhelming this year, and it's not surprising based on how this team has played. But what baffles me the most is the negativity that comes out even after a win. I've been on this board for quite a while, and I think the negativity and the fighting between posters is at an all time high.

I like both AJ and Peavy, and I believe that they are both competitors, bulldogs, etc. I'm not surprised they had a confrontation at all. I remember from last year Peavy saying he liked to call his own game, and I would see him shake off a lot of pitch calls. If both guys are as stubborn as we hear about them, one would think there would have been more confrontations (and there may well have been). I'm just glad they won the game. I agree that this would have been a much bigger issue if they had lost.

At least Ozzie was entertaining last night during his tantrum over the horrible call on Alexei. His kicking Soto's mask was hilarious.

I too DVR'ed Falling Skies. I hope it's decent...I need some good summer TV.

The word retarded to me has always been associated with those with true mental retardation. I know there's been a push for a more politically correct term, but "mentally retarded" has stuck. Part of it may be that there are several different types of mental retardation (Downs, Autism, etc.). I have a cousin that is severely retarded (and that's what he's referred to as), but people using that term to describe someone being stupid has never bothered me. As far as the dumb vs. stupid debate, I've always thought dumb was a lack of knowledge while stupid was a lack of common sense. So, Phil Rogers was "being stupid".

It's been a long, slow adjustment, if indeed this has been an adjustment period. But if he starts cranking homers on a regular basis and continues hitting better I'm okay with that. On a side note, Dunn in the outfield should be entertaining. They might need an oxygen tank on the sidelines if he has to chase down a liner.
