  1. It's a shame. When Osama was killed, the attacking of Obama began. All those Facebook posts saying he had nothing to do with it and it's not a victory for him and so on. I would imagine that if McCain had been in office or Bush had been in office when that happened those same people wouldn't be saying that. Then there'd be others from the other side saying the same thing. I dislike getting into political discussions with people. I have some family members that have completely opposite views that I have, and I try very hard to avoid talking politics. Because they're not going to change my mind and I'm not going to change their mind. And that's just a small scale of the country. Why argue and try to make others see your point of view when very few people's minds will be changed?
  2. A win tonight, especially a win with 5+ runs would hopefully do something to spark this team. If they go into the game and get shut down again it's going to be a bad roadtrip.
  3. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ May 6, 2011 -> 08:25 AM) Please don't tell me you think Humber really is better than any of our other starters... Maybe, maybe not. But he's been much better than expected. And, it seems as if he's sustaining that. Only time will tell.

QUOTE (oldsox @ May 5, 2011 -> 09:42 AM) ....Something like This is the most talented team to ever play this badly this long? I think he's losing it; tough to be a homer 24/7 with this bunch. Sounds like a pretty accurate statement. This team is playing way below their talent level, and it's been going on for a long time. I don't read that he's saying it's one of the most talented teams ever but rather that they've been playing badly for a long time and there's not a lot of explanation because of the level of talent.
  5. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ May 4, 2011 -> 08:03 PM) They said they are all in. They probably all deserve to get canned now, but I think they should play it out and if they fall short this year, clean house. New GM, new manager, new coaching staff, new era. All in IMO means your bes shot. If this is their best shot, major changes need to be made. Perfectly said.
  6. QUOTE (greg775 @ May 4, 2011 -> 08:00 PM) I watched the end of today's game while remaining positive. I just was amazed (again) at the awful at bats in the ninth. Their closer looked like horses***. We're at home, a supposedly desperate team and we can't at least TIE the game? I hate to be a negative nancy this season, but god, how much can a sane person take?? It's driving me crazy watching it. I'd rather see a guest fan come to bat with the game on the line than Juan Pierre and Omar. This team is dead on their feet right now. I knew last night's game would end as a no hitter watching the hitters come up to plate and look lost. Actually, lost isn't the right word, they looked disinterested, like they weren't trying.
  7. QUOTE (greg775 @ May 4, 2011 -> 07:51 PM) Nobody's having an attack. We just think the fact KW and Ozzie's team already is out of the race is grounds for firing. We've played our last meaningful game of the entire season and it's may 5. That's difficult to do. Think about it. This team is off the radar until spring training 2012. Amazing. I mean if that's not a fireable offense?? If you are not going to fire Oz, KW, Walker, etc., then you at least have to start dropping bodies. I'd start with Pierre, Morel. AJ will fret, but he probably should be the backup catcher now. Once again, by the time Peavy hits the ML club we're out of it. Amazing. If he has a couple good outings, see if you can trade him to the Yankees or Red Sox. Trade Mark and Paulie as well. These trades will be vital for the future of the team. If they are rotten trades, we will be done for a long time. Sorry to keep replying off you, but I like a good discussion. I agree that Morel has to get on a plane bound for NC. Pierre I'm not sure about. To whom could be dump him and for what? Buehrle and Paulie aren't going anywhere. If Peavy comes back and pitches well, he will still be hard to move unless the Sox eat a lot of money. I could see Jackson being traded, easily. AJ...again, who would want him? I like Castro, and I think he's under-utilized. I'd like to see him behind the plate more often. I think we're stuck with a lot of what we have. Anyone who is traded will most likely result in the Sox having to pay a chunk of their salaries.
  8. Amazing. I try to remain positive, and for some reason I still watch the games. However, I'm starting to think that watching a Kids Can Play II team would be much more enjoyable than watching what's going on now.
  9. QUOTE (jeffro2525 @ May 4, 2011 -> 07:48 PM) I, for one, am going to hold out hope for better days for at least a little bit longer. I really don't want a summer on meaningless baseball. The odds are drastically leaning towards a total blowup here...but here's hoping for a 2010 type run. That'll remind me of being a Pirates fan. By the way, the Pirates are 14-16.
  10. I want to be optimistic, so I will be. Someone (or two) isn't going to Seattle and will instead be heading to Charlotte. It'll be a minor wake-up call, and the Sox go 6-3. But, the realist in me says 4-5 at best. I hope my internal optimist is right, though.
  11. QUOTE (greg775 @ May 4, 2011 -> 07:28 PM) Fire both now. This is big boy land, the major leagues. Both have single-handedly cost the Sox zillions of dollars in revenue the rest of the year. It's tough to be out of the race after five weeks. The Sox have accomplished that. Kenny and Ozzie should both be shown the door today. Who cares at this point if Ozzie goes on to win many WS titles with another team (which he'll do). It's hexed up right now in Chicago. I think Ozzie will have success somewhere else; Kenny I think is done. He'll be a scout like Jerry Krause. I doubt that. He's not a great manager. As far as firing someone, I'm calling for heads to roll, too, but they haven't single handedly cost the Sox "zillions" of dollars. The players are not performing. Ozzie and Walker and KW and whoever else aren't helping, but these are grown men. They can hit the ball...they've done it before. Somehow they are just sucking all at the same time. I'm a proponent of Ozzie getting fired because it seems like he's totally uninvolved anymore. Will it do any good to fire him? Who knows. But I'm tired of seeing him standing on the dugout steps with a Gatorade towel wrapper around his neck watching this $128 million team fail over and over again.
  12. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ May 4, 2011 -> 03:21 PM) A liquor store? Is there a better sponsor for this team right now? Pepto Bismol
  13. QUOTE (RockRaines @ May 4, 2011 -> 03:07 PM) Adam Dunn can hit homers right? He's gonna have to hurry to hit normal 40.
  14. QUOTE (BigEdWalsh @ May 4, 2011 -> 03:04 PM) Cy Cy Sperling could shut this team down right now.
  15. QUOTE (fathom @ May 4, 2011 -> 02:55 PM) You mean when we had an AL style lineup instead of Slappy McSucky leading off and a corner infielder who hits like a pitcher? I have his rookie card.
  16. Have any of the announcers said something along the lines of tipping our caps yet?
  17. QUOTE (flavum @ May 4, 2011 -> 02:49 PM) I thought the Sox would win about 92 games this season. If they lose today, they'll have to go 80-50 the rest of the way to go 91-71. Our only hope is that the Indians aren't this good, and they start losing games in bunches. Damn that's depressing.
  18. I'm glad I can't watch the game. I'm depressed enough as it is reading the thread. Someone has to get fired, right? Right?
  19. QUOTE (ChrisLikesBaseball @ May 4, 2011 -> 11:51 AM) I was at the game last night and I haven't gone through the game thread.. was anyone wondering why Omar didn't pinch hit for Morel in the 9th last night? I wondered the same thing. I also wondered why Ozzie didn't complain about the bad call of Beckham at first. To me it just looked like the Sox gave up during the last two innings.
  20. Maybe it's a short memory, but I had to vote for this year. This team is dead. Every day I expect them to turn it around, and it just gets worse. But, I keep watching. I'm a glutton for punishment, and there's still a glimmer of hope...I hope.
  21. I find it hard to believe that he is hated. I'm sure there are a few guys who don't like him, but I would think he's generally liked or at least tolerated. He's not nearly the same type of player he used to be, and by that I mean a nuisance (asshole) to other teams. I can remember watching his antics throughout 2005, and especially in the playoffs (dropped third strike!) and saying, "He's an asshole, but he's our asshole." If he's that type of player towards other teams, one would think some of that persona leaks into his interactions with his own team. And some of his teammates may not like that.
  22. QUOTE (PlaySumFnJurny @ May 2, 2011 -> 10:54 AM) I like that. A lot. Ditto
  23. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ May 1, 2011 -> 03:56 PM) We have a WAY better chance of the talent on this team being successful than we do going into a White Flag situation. There is zero question there. Absolutely. But, we can use one of our favorite phrases here...on paper. I thought this time would kick ass, and maybe they still will. But just about every part of the game needs to turn around right now. I won't stop watching the team even though I have been saying after almost every game that I've had it. I'm a fan, good team or bad. But, I'd rather see a team being built for the future playing .340 baseball than a $128 million team playing .340 baseball. There's no way the team keeps playing like this. But what is scary is that it's going to take a 10 game winning streak to get back to .500! How late in the season will it be too late to turn it around? If they're still 10 games below .500 in early June, is it time to ready the White Flag?
  24. I'm impressed with how quiet it was kept. This was a long time in planning and I for one was shocked when I heard the new last night. I sort of thought for the past few years that he has been dead for a while since we really haven't heard much about him...aside ffrom purported sightings and audio recordings. I'm not sure this secures a victory for Obama in 2012 but it certainly helps him. A year and a half until the election, but people will remember that "Obama got Osama".

QUOTE (greg775 @ May 1, 2011 -> 09:42 PM) Would I be a bad fan if I blamed many of our offensive problems on high-paid, low-producing Dunn? If he had had a decent April, just a f***ing decent April, we wouldn't be 10 out already. He has had plenty of key RBI situations and FAILED. Oh I forgot, he's all screwed up because of the appendectomy. Maybe I'm cruel for blaming him when he had that problem. All I know is he's sucked and the team offense also has sucked. If he was hurt I'd rather have had him sit out all the games or do a minor-league rehab rather than him resemble a big dung pile. The whole team has not produced. And to me it doesn't matter how much someone gets paid. Whether it's a guy getting paid $1 million of $12 million, failing to get a hit or strike someone out or whatever they're supposed to do is equally responsible.
