  1. QUOTE (quickman @ Dec 7, 2010 -> 08:30 AM) My understanding is the Dbacks did make an offer and its for a couple of million less but its for three years. The Rangers have been involved and are in the ball park but its not been a priority and they have not added a third year. Just what I understand. My take is a deal will be done today eitherway. I hope so, one way or the other. I'd love to see Paulie back, but I don't want to see the Sox overpay or go for a contract that is too long. If PK signs elsewhere it'll be interesting to see what KW's plans B and C are. I would imagine DLee is one of them, but he may have something else up his sleeve that gets someone for another position and leaves 1st open for Viciedo.
  2. QUOTE (iamshack @ Dec 7, 2010 -> 08:12 AM) If you weigh his defense into the equation, he's a very valuable player. He's absolutely phenomenal defensively. His offense took a big hit because of park factors. You saw how much better he hit last year when he was back playing in a normal park. I'm pretty sure he would do very well offensively in the Cell. Combine that with his defense at third, which is probably better than Crede's was, and I don't think that contract would hurt you at all. You could then put a guy like Viciedo at 1B or even start working out Q there. That's an interesting thought. Who knows, he might be okay there.
  3. QUOTE (quickman @ Dec 7, 2010 -> 08:16 AM) Nicely said, What i am hearing is the Dbacks and whitesox are very close on the money side of things. Konerko is truly thinking about this because He can spend three years at home with his wife and kids as they are in the growing age stage. Three years at home with your family around for about the same money (Dbacks offering a touch less) or three years on the road with your only team and a chance to win the division. Thats why this is taking another day. I could see that being the case, but I thought the DBacks were a long shot and the Rangers were actually the other serious contender.
  4. QUOTE (justBLAZE @ Dec 7, 2010 -> 07:09 AM) #rangers, focused on cliff lee, "not likely'' to get konerko. paul's friend says "no way'' on #orioles. #chisox in drivers seat - Jon Heyman What a great way to start the day. Sounds like the only other team seriously contending for PK (Rangers) is focusing elsewhere. It's up to Paulie now. I wouldn't be too upset with the three year deal, but I'd prefer seeing 2 years with an option.
  5. I hope something happens today. I would imagine resolving the PK issue one way or the other will start a domino effect. The Sox still need to make a few moves in order to get bullpen help. I just wonder if a trade or two will be worked out or KW will aim for a FA.
  6. QUOTE (SoxFan1 @ Dec 6, 2010 -> 11:56 PM) SI_JonHeyman #chisox, konerko talks appear to be going well.he'll likely get $12.5 mil a year, maybe 3 yrs. #rangers, #orioles other options. That's a little more than I thought he would get...from the Sox anyway. But, I suppose 2/$25 million isn't too bad. I would expect a little more salary to be moved, however, especially to get more bullpen help.
  7. QUOTE (Pale Sox @ Dec 6, 2010 -> 03:08 PM) I'll consider it a blessing the Red Sox won out. I agree.
  8. QUOTE (justBLAZE @ Dec 6, 2010 -> 02:08 PM) Both Merkin and Reifort spinning stories how Kenny and Ozzie are 'rebuilding' their relationship. Ozzie has been quoted saying that last year was so bad, he didn't enjoy any of the wins, even the 25-5 run. KW rebuilt it by signing Dunn and hopefully re-signing Konerko. Then there can't be any arguing over the DH spot.
  9. QUOTE (BigSqwert @ Dec 6, 2010 -> 02:08 PM) Like that guy in Office Space with the stapler. I think you have my bat. Could I please have my bat back?
  10. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Dec 6, 2010 -> 11:35 AM) Ichiro is one guy that you really don't care how much he's paid, because, just thanks to the added interest and viewership and ad sales in Japan, you make up most of the money. It's nearly $20 million, but it's a $20 million check and an extra $25 million in revenue. An outfield of Pierre, Rios, and Ichiro? Sure, why not.
  11. That's a good point. Imagine the jersey sales.
  12. QUOTE (Frank_Thomas35 @ Dec 6, 2010 -> 11:28 AM) Watch KW get Ichiro this week. That is quite unlikely, but could you imagine? Quentin would have to go away. Plus, how much does Ichiro get paid?

QUOTE (Brian @ Dec 6, 2010 -> 10:52 AM) R.I.P. Terriers. Officially axed. I blame all you jerks who did not watch! Dammit! That was one of my favorites.

  15. The Werth contract is ridiculous. Makes Dunn look like a bargain.
  16. There was an article I read this morning that said the Sox are expected to be aggressive during the winter meetings. Aside from Konerko and Putz, I wonder what KW is aiming for. I wouldn't be surprised to see a few trades made, and Quentin, Viciedo, and others may be going elsewhere. Time will tell. This should be an interesting week.
  17. The new banner is awesome. Hopefully Konerko will be added to it next week.
  18. KW has been a busy man.
  19. QUOTE (chunk23 @ Dec 3, 2010 -> 12:17 PM) It's actually for Linebrink. Best trade ever? Provided the Sox don't pay any of his salary, it's one of the best.
  20. QUOTE (scenario @ Dec 3, 2010 -> 12:16 PM) Linebrink For real?
  21. QUOTE (klaus kinski @ Dec 3, 2010 -> 12:05 PM) For who? Quentin? It'll be interesting to find out. What's the story with the minor league pitcher? Any info?
  22. QUOTE (ozzfest @ Dec 3, 2010 -> 11:46 AM) Also, do we think he'll buy Jake Peavy's number? He'll probably do what Rios did and just reverse the numbers.
  23. Think about this: If the Sox re-sign Konerko, their 3-4-5 combo of Rios, Dunn, and Konerko could give us 90+ HRs and 270+ RBIs. Talk about potent.
  24. Yesterday on ESPN radio Buster Olney said he expects the Sox to go after Heath Bell for the bullpen. Obviously just his opinion, but he said if the Padres re-sign Hoffman, Bell would be expendable. I thought I heard that Hoffman may retire though. Hmmm
