QUOTE (Brian @ Oct 5, 2010 -> 03:23 PM) Finally got around to watching last week's TERRIERS. This show is great and I will post this every week til all you bums start watching. It's one of the best shows on right now. I hope viewership catches on...FX poorly marketed that show.
  2. QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ Oct 5, 2010 -> 08:39 AM) So the reason Jenks blew a 3-run lead in Minnesota is because he respects the Twins and doesnt hate them? And Matt Thornton wouldn't have grooved a pitch to Thome in the 10th if he just held a little more anger towards him & the Twins. Maybe then instead of working with Gavin on how to pitch more consistently, we should spend time every day making him dislike the Twins more and more, then he won't s*** the bed against them 3 teams in a month. As intense as the Yankees/Red Sox rivalry is, I really don't think the players hate each other, and I'm sure there is a lot of mutual respect between the two teams. Let's not forget that those are two of the most talented teams in the league year in and year out, so every year they are competing to be the best in a super tough division or they are playing in the playoffs, which increases the intensity of every matchup. Yes. That is a very accurate statement. Come on, I didn't say there had to be hate. The Sox just fold when they are up against the Twins. Look at the Red Sox/Yankee rivalry. You don't see one team just collapsing on a regular basis. I think the Sox go into games against the Twins with a defeatist attitude too often. I don't know how you change that. Apparently the Sox don't either. But they need to figure out how to beat the Twins, or October 2nd (or so) will be the last day of the season more often than not.
  3. QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ Oct 5, 2010 -> 08:00 AM) Figure out how to have one of the top two payrolls in baseball??? I think he was saying it's time to stop respecting the Twins and start treating them like true rivals...like the Red Sox and Yankees do to each other.
  4. QUOTE (elrockinMT @ Oct 4, 2010 -> 09:54 AM) You win or LOSE as a team I agree 100%. The White Sox failed when it counted against the Twins, and when they played in Baltimore, and for the first two months on the season... I'd be willing to bet that just about every player failed at a crucial (or at least important) moment sometime during the season. You can look at specific moments and say that Konerko failed here and Jenks failed here and Quentin failed here. But the long and the short of it is that the team failed to win the division because of a poor start, their inability to beat teams within the division, and their inability to play well against the team that mattered the most...the Twins.
  5. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Oct 4, 2010 -> 11:25 AM) Teams that could use a 1b upgrade (without thinking about available funds): Chicago Cubs Atlanta Braves Texas Rangers San Francisco Giants Tampa Bay Rays Chicago Blue Jays Washington Nationals Baltimore Orioles Cleveland Indians Teams that might think about it if they could move someone else first and get PK14 at 1/2 the price of the guy they're moving Los Angeles Dodgers Milwaukee Brewers San Diego Padres Boston Red Sox Los Angeles Angels Arizona Diamondbacks You're right. I think there will be plenty of interest in Konerko. How many teams would be able to afford him, I don't know. If Konerko returns to the Sox, I wouldn't be surprised if it's for slightly less than another offer. I think (and hope) that JR gets involved again and brings him back. By the way, I didn't know the Blue Jays were unhappy in Toronto.
  6. Imagine if the team hadn't started so poorly, and Peavy didn't go down, and Quentin hadn't under-performed, and... Frustrating isn't it? Many of us predicted around 88 wins, not thinking of the bad things that happened.
  7. Had Cobain not killed himself, we probably wouldn't have the Foo Fighters to enjoy.
  8. Everlong is a good song by the Foo Fighters.
  9. I like the horror movie idea.
  10. I was watching the game with my son, and I said "wouldn't it be cool if Paulie hit a grand slam?" Awesome. I really hope he's back, obviously for the right kind of money (2 yrs/$20 million or so). But he made some comments about the Sox needing to make improvements on and off the field. I hope they do, and Paulie realizes that. Only time will tell. And I too look forward to posts by elgonzo4sox. That sig is quite distracting.
  11. I love this time of year for beer. Sam Adams Harvest Pumpkin Ale is one of the best pumpkin ales out there.
  12. QUOTE (FlaSoxxJim @ Sep 30, 2010 -> 09:11 PM) The Sketch Book of Geoffrey Crayon is actually the name of the Washington Irving anthology in which the Headless Horseman of Sleepy Hollow first appeared. Rip Van Winkle was also first published in this volume. Useful information in case I end up on Jeopardy one day.
  13. QUOTE (BigSqwert @ Sep 30, 2010 -> 09:12 PM) Thank goodness he's been rotting away on the bench this month for no apparent reason. Yeah, Viciedo has no business playing every day. I can't understand Ozzie's handling of him.
  14. So I shouldn't say something else about the headless horseman?
  15. QUOTE (fathom @ Sep 30, 2010 -> 04:52 PM) Konerko said Sox have to make improvements on and off the field to catch the Twins. BTW, another big reason that not bringing back Thome has hurt us is that if Thome was still here, I'm pretty sure Konerko would stay around also. He's 100% right there. He's probably quite upset with the way this season has gone, and I wouldn't blame him.
  16. Ichabod Crane chopped off people's head, speaking of morbid.
  17. If no one is unloaded to make room for Konerko and they still sign Konerko, the DH position will definitely take a hit. I could see Quentin as the DH if that were to happen.
  18. Will say something here to jump start the thread.
  19. I'd go to a game whether they are in it or not. Sometimes it's just fun to go when they're out of it...provided you can get the tickets cheap. If I didn't have stuff going on tomorrow night, I'd be there.
  20. QUOTE (elgonzo4sox @ Sep 29, 2010 -> 08:10 PM) I am very hopeful that the respect Jerry has for Konerko will show itself soon, perhaps on Thursday. When the team got back into town for this homestand, Jerry obviously told Ozzie "cut the crap, you're going to be here next year". Hopefully he will similarly make sure that Konerko is here next year, and get it announced soon. Konerko is the heart and soul of this club, an anchor on the infield, and has done everything possible to earn a spot here next year. I would be afraid that Konerko would end up signing somewhere else if he decides to test the market and doesn't consider a "home town discount". The way he has played this year, another team could offer him 2 or 3 years at $12-$14 million per. I'd like to hear today that he and the Sox have agreed to an extension.
  21. I don't get the heavy dislike that Pierre gets by some. I think he's an okay lead-off guy, has got good speed, and has shown some pretty good defense this year. However, I agree that he is way overpaid. And if that's the only source of the dislike, I can understand that.
  22. Jerry is the mouse in Tom and Jerry.
  23. Golly, Bren called me Butt Mouth?
  24. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Sep 29, 2010 -> 02:41 PM) You making copies of your ass again? Zero chance we get back to the Bears after a comment like that.
