  1. QUOTE(Kid Gleason @ Oct 21, 2005 -> 06:17 PM) Well, he's surely the reanimated man!!! Dude, that is awesome. Are you into early "X-Files" episodes, like the first 5 or 6 seasons? There's an episode in season 3 where he plays a half-assed psychic that knows when & how a person will die. He was absolutely superb in that role. And of course, I'm not surprised that nobody has mentioned "X-Files", but I'm a huge fan of the early stuff. I have forked over $350+ for the first 6 seasons on DVD. That's actually a hell of a deal, as Best Buy has each season selling for up to $100, or more.
  2. The Rally Crede slept with my wife, kicked my dog, and took a piss on the side of my garage. I'm inviting him over again next week.
  3. QUOTE(SoxFan101 @ Oct 21, 2005 -> 05:38 PM) Where is the love for Unhappily Ever After? Is that the show with Jim Belushi?
  4. If Paul could hit over .300 with a kick-ass OBP and display some actual range on defense, I might consider a 5 year/65 million dollar deal as reasonable. As it is now, he ain't even worth 10 million per. He's a .280 hitter in a good year. Who are we kidding? Paul is valuable, but he's not a spectacular player. I know that someone will be stupid enough to give him 12 million per, and it better not be the Sox. For those that say "Just get him signed, blah blah blah", I'd like to purchase some of whatever it is you're smoking. Seriously.
  5. It's a major disadvantage, especially when you're playing a team like Houston that is just insanely good in their own building. They'd have taken all three from the Cardinals if not for that miraculous Pujols HR. I considered St. Louis to be the one true dominant team in all of baseball, and they got raped. A good question to lead off that previous thread would be to ask how often they work on their bunting over the course of a season. The preparation for Interleague play in June/July might just be a blessing in disguise, as pitchers take more bunting practice & are therefore better suited to come through in a sticky situation with a man on first and no outs in the World Series, or what have you. Ozzie knows what the deal is, though. I'd assume that these guys have been practicing on a regular basis in-between starts throughout the course of the year.
  6. QUOTE(The Critic @ Oct 21, 2005 -> 05:00 PM) Off the topic, your sig reminds me of what a f***ing TERROR Frank Thomas was in his prime, and what a crime it was to rob the fans of his pursuit of all those historical numbers. Maybe 62 would have meant more if a non-roider had gotten there first! ALL HAIL NUMBER 35!!!! Thanks, man! Hey, you should have been on the Hall Of Fame ballot. I told the Administrator dude as much, and he agreed.
  7. My favorite part of that song is at the end of the refrain where the singer is like OH-OH-OHHHHHHH
  8. QUOTE(LosMediasBlancas @ Oct 21, 2005 -> 04:52 PM) I missed the argument. (see sig) Dude, you won the Gold, Steff gets the Silver, and I'll settle for the Bronze.
  9. QUOTE(LosMediasBlancas @ Oct 21, 2005 -> 04:27 PM) I can only speak for myself, but sometimes the 'f***in retarded' questions are rhetorical and a means to start up a conversation. I bet 90% of the questions on this board can be answered by a yes or no. Let's start doing that and see what's really 'f***in retarded'. In a lot of cases, that's fine. If it gets people talking about something meaningful, I am all for it.
  10. QUOTE(3E8 @ Oct 21, 2005 -> 04:22 PM) I don't steal music, but I don't for a second feel sorry for the record companies. Did you know that consumers paid almost 500 million dollars in artificially inflated prices from '98 to '00? They colluded in order to hold back competition in the CD music market. Now that is f***ed up. The FTC got them for that one. You're right. Greed is not exclusive to any one side in this case. And I know that plenty of soxtalk posters are students, and the cash flow is nonexistant. Believe me, there are plenty of exceptions to what I was saying. When I was in high school, I'd purchase a couple of cassette tapes per week, and it was great. Nowadays, people can download a s***load of albums per day with a DSL connection or whatever, and it's only gonna get worse. While I'm not an expert when it comes to technology, I see people in the not-so-distant future downloading 1000+ albums in mere seconds with just one click of a mouse. We'll reach a point where it will become unprofitable and a major waste of time on a whole to even put forth any effort into making music. But this is just me being nostradumbass, I could be way off the mark.
  11. QUOTE(NorthSideSox72 @ Oct 21, 2005 -> 04:05 PM) Anyeone else shaking their heads at why Steff seems so offended by people's questions lately? It's most likely due to the fact that most of the questions on here are completely f***ing retarded. Are the pitchers going to take some swings in the batting cage? Does this question even deserve a response?
  12. QUOTE(The Critic @ Oct 21, 2005 -> 04:05 PM) No, not entirely. I like a lot of older stuff, but I'm always looking for new bands with a good sound. My recent favorite is The Generators. A nice hard punk sound a la Social Distortion. I dig around for a lot of unsigned bands, I get a lot of links from local bands I like and stuff I see on boards like Metal Sludge. So I definitely don't consider myself "stuck in the 70's" by any means. BREAD???? NO NO NO NO, OH GOD NO!!!!! Garage Days was okay, Metallica covered some stuff I like, like the Misfits, Thin Lizzy, The Anti-Nowhere League, stuff like that. Yeah, I've never heard Bread, sorry about that. The heart of the matter: As far as commercial rock goes, everything either sounds like Creed or Blink 182 to me. While it's nowhere near as bad as mainstream rap music, it still disturbs me. There is no innvoation, no soul, no nothing. Just a bunch of suburbanites in a garage.
  13. The Smashing Pumpkins second album with the space scene on the cover? That album has a lot of soul, and I ain't really a fan of Corgan. Check out the music on "Tonight", for instance. Tell me that doesn't hit hard on an emotional level. That's all I want, just some music with soul. The Beatles have soul. Credence Clearwater Revival has soul. Dylan, Petty, and the Who have soul. It's not exclusive to any type of jazz-fusion or late 60s/early 70s R&B.
  14. Oh, and as far as stealing music, I've read enough of these threads to know that you definitely wouldn't qualify. I'd agree that downloading music that is long out-of-print or unreleased is fine, but you and I both know that what people are pulling nowadays is incredibly f***ed up. They don't even think twice about it.
  15. QUOTE(The Critic @ Oct 21, 2005 -> 03:38 PM) I don't steal music. I go to artist websites, record label sites like epitaph.com, and places like purevolume.com to find music. When a major label band releases something I like, I buy it. Ministry, Bad Religion, Megadeth and Rise Against being recent examples of purchases ( so you can see how often that happens ) When Y'ALL buy jazz albums, do they come with a bottle of No-Doze? Or do you have to purchase the No-Doze separately when you put on the ol' Victrola? ....just as funny, polite and accurate as your comment.... Yeah, but you're more of a purist. I thought you said that most of the stuff you like is from the 70s? You wouldn't really qualify. I'm mostly jsut referring to the current state of rock. Just to clarify, I like a lot of Seattle-based grunge from teh early 90s, a little metal here and there, etc. I really like the Metallica "Garage Days" LP, but not much else. That's mostly just covers of stuff that you like, correct? Bread or something like that?
  16. QUOTE(ChiSoxyGirl @ Oct 21, 2005 -> 03:41 PM) Mercy!'s a lady! Sounds like my kind of woman. A little rough around the edges, with just a touch of butch. The belching sort, basically
  17. QUOTE(Rex Hudler @ Oct 21, 2005 -> 04:51 AM) Go ahead and fire back at me on this one, but you all can hate all you want, but there are many millions of people each week that disagreed. Crappy shows don't run for 10 years! Sure they do. How long was "Saved By The Bell" on the air? How about "Beverly Hills 90210"? 50 Cent goes platinum multiple times, Will Smith movies gross 100+ million in the box office, etc. You can't use the longevity argument. It has more holes than the swiss cheese on your sandwich.
  18. QUOTE(Mercy! @ Oct 19, 2005 -> 06:54 AM) I can proudly and honestly state that I never saw a complete episode of Friends. It only took a few minutes for me to make up my mind that I needn't waste my time there. Good man. For any guy who enjoys this show, I'm sure that they can find a role for you in a future Milwaukee's Best commercial. Terrible beer, but god damn do those commercials kick ass.
  19. QUOTE(Texsox @ Oct 21, 2005 -> 01:03 PM) Raymond I got into during syndication. I was watching every night until they went to Italy, then it kind of jumped the shark for me. I like the characters, but I feel like I'm watching the same exact show every single time. Ray's father is the MAN.
  20. Just another normal day in this sad country.
  21. QUOTE(AddisonStSox @ Oct 20, 2005 -> 11:10 PM) Addison, I always knew you were the man. With the Time Life releases, plus the bootlegs that I have acquired in amazing quality, I have every skit that aired on MTV, even a lot of unreleased stuff. s***, some of my favorite animated characters of all time are Todd, Mr. Anderson, Mr. Buzzcut, etc. Some of my favorite skits: "Bad Dog" "Lightning Strikes" "Leave It To Beavis" "Huh Huh Humbug" "It's A Miserable Life" "No Laughing" "Manners Suck" "Prank Call" This show is easily my favorite (the skits, not necessarily the music video commentary). It just caters to my sense of humor like nothing else can. I tried to check out "Family Guy". I like the baby and the dog, but that's about it.
  22. QUOTE(easyw @ Oct 21, 2005 -> 02:57 AM) As an old man - 36 - I've been avoiding all thing rock and anything with lyrics for a long time now. Call me lame, I prefer jazz like Miles Davis, and lots of Brazilian music. That's cool. While I'm not into pre-1966 jazz or any type of latin/brazillian fusion, I'd still have to say that you have good taste. A lot of the people in this forum listen to this talentless whiteboy crap that is completely devoid of any soul and is anything but timeless. Your typical Q101 setlist, basically. When y'all buy albums, do they come with a bottle of aspirin? Or do you have to purchase the aspirin separately when you download songs and put them onto your I-PODS? Or do you steal your aspirin just like you steal your music? Are you then surprised when your favorite crappy whiteboy bands disappear, mostly because they suck, but also because you contribute no funds to their cause? Ahh, life is just too funny sometimes.
  23. QUOTE(Kid Gleason @ Oct 21, 2005 -> 02:10 PM) Ya know...that is a big ass joint ol' Bob is smokin' there. Not sure why I just thought that. Seen the cover a million times, and it just now made me think "damn...that's big". When the Deluxe 2CD version came out in the 90s, they had a zippo on the front of the box with the original LP cover photo on the interior of the package. What a joke. I got the original LP, and the cover is in damn near mint condition.
  24. Is Rally Crede a hero on Clark and Belmont? Not that it matters.
  25. QUOTE(Punch and Judy Garland @ Oct 17, 2005 -> 10:45 PM) My two guesses were Juan Gone and Hack Wilson. Neither did it. Big Mac did in 99 though by 2. Darn near did it the year before too. Not sure of any others Punch beat me to it. Mark McGwire accomplished this feat in 1999 with 145 H and 147 RBI in 521 AB. These are the Top 10 that I found from 1930-2000: 1. Mark McGwire 145 H/147 RBI (1999) 2. Jay Buhner 123 H/121 RBI (1995) 3. Mark McGwire 152 H/147 RBI (1998) 4. Jim Gentile 147 H/141 RBI (1961) 5. Harmon Killebrew 134 H/126 RBI (1962) 6. Harmon killebrew 127 H/119 RBI (1971) 7. Manny Ramirez 174 H/165 RBI ((1999) 8. Dave Kingman 109 H/99 RBI (1982) 9. Rudy York 138 H/127 RBI (1938) 10. Gorman Thomas 136 H/123 RBI (1979) For what it's worth, my first guess was Dave Kingman.
