Oh, never mind. You're from Indiana. That means that you should be partying even harder, at an earlier age. If I'm gonna have to stare at cornfields all day, I'd rather do it drunk, as opposed to sober.

QUOTE(whitesoxin' @ Oct 17, 2005 -> 07:57 PM) Because it's illegal and IMHO idiotic. All it does is ruin relationships, get you in trouble, and give you a hangover. Haha, check this quaker out. You're from Chicago. All it takes is one or two Irish buddies, and you're drinking on weekends by the time you're 13 or 14. I thought that it was like that for everyone, not just me.

Oh hell yeah. It makes the night so much more exciting for us wierd self-employed types.

Hmmm. Just through sports alone, I've been friends or acquaintances with plenty of people in my life, and I couldn't find even one old buddy on that site. No old girlfriends, no nothing. I know about a dozen people listed at the Illinois Department Of Corrections website, though.

What are the major Angels message boards? The only one that I found was the MLB one, and god damn is that board retarded. Reading that stuff makes me feel like I'm NASA material or something.

And it's pretty much a foregone conclusion that we'll be playing the Astros in the World Series. Remember, this is the rotation that Guillen wants: Contreras Buehrle Garcia Garland Who cares about what anyone else has to say about what rotation they'd like to see. I have yet to state a personal preference. I am going on what Guillen has shown me.

QUOTE(Dam8610 @ Oct 17, 2005 -> 06:11 AM) The 5 ________? f***wads Hey, you gotta admit, it has a nice ring to it. You don't wanna mess with the five f***wads.

QUOTE(Dam8610 @ Oct 17, 2005 -> 06:10 AM) Whatever Ozzie decides is perfectly fine with me. Word

QUOTE(Soxfest @ Oct 17, 2005 -> 06:00 AM) Because JG pitched before FG in Angels series That was a unique case, though. Jon Boy didn't get to pitch in the Boston series. Call it a hunch, but I see Garland going in game 4. I'd put money on it. Ozzie ain't gonna screw around with his original playoff rotation unless there are special circumstances (as in the case of Mark Buehrle).

QUOTE(Rowand44 @ Oct 17, 2005 -> 05:55 AM) That pic is f***in awesome too. Hell yeah, I'm gonna print that out on some glossy paper and frame it. Seriously.

QUOTE(Soxfest @ Oct 17, 2005 -> 05:48 AM) MB in game 3 because MB said his dream would be to pitch in STL in the World series he told guillen this already Okay, in that case, I could see Ozzie changing his initial playoff rotation. Contreras Garcia Buehrle Garland If Ozzie had Garland in the #4 slot when the playoffs started, why would he change it for the World Series?
-
It's gonna be the same precise order as it was when the playoffs started. Contreras Buehrle Garcia Garland Why would Ozzie flip-flop now? But hey, whatever. Sox are in the World Series.

AND THATS A WHITE SOX PLAYOFF WINNER

Sox pitching held Angels hitting to a .175 average in this series. That is what I would call legendary. And now for the midnight special. Bob would be so proud. -

You know that I have to spark up a major don after this. -
QUOTE(TLAK @ Oct 15, 2005 -> 05:40 PM) Mariotti’s quote: "I was concerned about him. I was worried,'' manager Ozzie Guillen said. "But that's the best I've seen him throw all year long.'' Guillen's Quote: “We don't know how Garland is going to show up because he's been laid off for so many days, I was concerned, I was not worried, but I was concerned to see how he did.” That's a pretty obvious botch job by Mariotti, Mercy.

QUOTE(BigSqwert @ Oct 15, 2005 -> 08:58 PM) That would be okay I guess.

QUOTE(EvilMonkey @ Oct 15, 2005 -> 04:36 PM) ROADHOUSE! Put the sequel in an inner city setting with dance music instead of a redneck bar. Have the bad guy be some local drug dealer instead of the town rich guy. Hell, the soundtrack alone could gross millions with the right artists on it. Oh man, as if the original wasn't bad enough. I'll rip your f***ing throat out LOL. I think that I'd rather stick pins in my eyes than to have to watch the sequel to that piece of crap movie. You're certainly a strange breed, EvilMonkey.

QUOTE(YASNY @ Oct 15, 2005 -> 08:14 AM) People don't always regard them one and the same because they can be separated and looked at individually. For example, once a pitcher releases the pitch, he is instantly transformed into an "infielder" and is part of the defense. His mere presence on the mound to begin with suggests that he's a defender, though. Really, it sounds simple, but what is the common theme amongst the major sports? It's offense vs. defense, period. If a pitcher is anything, he is a defender, and easily the most important one at that. The ultimate defensive game, to me, is a perfect game, followed closely by a no-hitter. Yes, spectacular plays will be made by position players, but the pitcher trumps all in a defensive sense. Whether it is inducing weak grounders and tailor-made double play balls, jamming guys and inducing weak pop-outs, striking guys out, etc, pitching rules all.

Could we be watching the best Sox pitching staff?
hammerhead johnson replied to BFirebird's topic in Pale Hose Talk
QUOTE(BFirebird @ Oct 15, 2005 -> 06:51 AM) Not to toot my own horn on this one but when I was watching the game tonight I thought back to this post I started and thought to myself........this team is rapidly climbing the charts not for regular season statistical reasons but for it's postseason accolades. Don't worry man, you ain't tooting your own horn. Yossarian and TLAK still reign supreme in their arguments, ya hear? This staff kicks ass, but come on. You originally asked if this was the best pitching staff in Sox history. There is just no way. I'll buy Top 5. And that is damn good, because lord knows that pitching is not what has cursed this team over the past 100 years. Without a team like the Yankees around to hog all of the young talent for the majority of the 20th Century (pre-draft era), I believe that we'd have won our fair share of championships. -
*Thank you very much*

QUOTE(witesoxfan @ Oct 15, 2005 -> 06:45 AM) I love the pitching staff and defense all around...they tend to feed off of each other. Wite, wouldn't you agree that the pitcher has the most control by far over an opposing team's offense, and therefore, is the primary component of defense? I'm just trying to figure out why people don't regard them as one and the same. If you could break it down in terms of "defensive impact" ratio, I'd favor Contreras 75 to 25 in the second half. Spectacular plays are made behind him, but the offense is clearly his b**** because of what he himself brings to the table. Right now, he is our Patrick Roy, our Ben Wallace, our Ray Lewis, etc.
-
QUOTE(CWSGuy406 @ Oct 15, 2005 -> 06:06 AM) but this team is a top three defensive ballclub (depending on the metric you want to use, but that's nitpicking), and a top two pitching club. Great execution of the plan. Well, pitching is the vast majority of defense. Separating pitching and defense doesn't make sense, IMO. Your pitcher is the most valuable defensive component, sort of like a goalie in hockey, a ranging big man in basketball, a gargantuan run-stuffing DT in football, etc. Not to nitpick or anything.

QUOTE(Felix @ Oct 15, 2005 -> 02:53 AM) In my book, AJ and Coop are equal in what they've done for this staff. Well then, remind me not to read your book. AJ is not a pitching coach, y'all. He's not gonna be able to identify something that is wrong with a pitcher's mechanics. He has not been trained to do so. And if you think that he could, then put down that bottle of Jack Daniels.
-
QUOTE(SoxFan101 @ Oct 15, 2005 -> 02:49 AM) All credit goes to Coop.... maybe a lot of that credit actually goes to Cotts, Pollite, Contreras, and Garland etc.... and how does Jenks go to Coop..... People forget that these guys all sucked before. While all 5 have plenty of god-given talent, that just ain't enough to get it done on this level. You can't tell me that Coop isn't damn near Mazilli-esque when it comes to shaping and molding pitchers. AJ is as clever as they come if we're talking about game-calling skills, but in the end, the pitchers have to execute. I can tell you to hit a particular spot in the strike zone, but it doesn't mean jack s*** if you can't actually execute the plan. Do you listen to Boers And Bernstein? It seems like Coop comes on for interviews once or twice a week. He is always talking about his sessions with Jenks. Do you recall when Bobby first pitched in a Sox uniform? Has he not drastically improved since then in terms of mechanics? I wouldn't support Coop the way I do if I hadn't heard millions of his interviews. The man just reeks of smarts. He has impressed me as much, if not more than K-Dub. But AJ is important, don't get me wrong. He is sort of a defensive coordinator, but he can't teach guys how to pitch more effectively. That's Coop's job. We have to keep this guy at all costs.

Yeah, but he gave up two runs. How "studly" is that? Way to go, Jon Boy.
