  1. That's the weirdest picture of Joe Crede I have ever seen.
  2. QUOTE(ZoomSlowik @ Jun 29, 2006 -> 10:03 PM) If I'm Kenny, I probably trade Freddy or Garland in the off-season and give B-Mac a shot. I'm not sure which to trade yet, that will depend on what kind of package we can get and who appears to be more dependable at the end of the year. I just don't like what I've seen from those guys so far, and I have my doubts that both of them can turn it around. You would trade Freddy before you'd trade Vazquez? I know Freddy has been a bit subpar this season, but he's a proven winner. 109 wins, 66 losses. He also countered 3 straight losses with three straight wins, one of them a 1-0 shut out against St. Louis. Vazquez has an ERA in the 5's, is a career .500 pitcher and has never been known as a winner nor a consistant pitcher. Not to mention he's making 3 million dollars more than Freddy. I was a big backer of Vazquez from the beginning, but the guy just plain sucks.
  3. QUOTE(VAfan @ Jun 29, 2006 -> 07:14 PM) I care a whole lot less about whether Contreras starts the game than about Contreras getting his groove back. It seems like as soon as he started messing with arm angles this year, he lost his consistency. I bet most of his problem has to do with his mechanics, though I wouldn't have a clue what he needs to do to straighten them out. If Contreras isn't dominating, our whole staff looks mediocre. But with him leading the way, I'll take our guys over any other starting group in MLB. Get it together, Jose! It's a big difference for a team if they have somebody to anchor the staff. Nothing against Buehrle, but he's not the type of pitcher to strike fear into opponents.
  4. QUOTE(WCSox @ Jun 29, 2006 -> 06:46 PM) What he did as a starter last year is. Garland had a HELL of a season last year too.
  5. QUOTE(WCSox @ Jun 29, 2006 -> 05:16 PM) So, no, I'm not really worried. Especially with McCarthy as a backup. What has McCarthy proved this year? A 4.35 ERA out of the bullpen isn't exactly promising.
  6. QUOTE(SoxHawk1980 @ Jun 29, 2006 -> 05:07 PM) Sometimes he is a dominant pitcher. And sometimes he gets shelled. I might agree with your high 2's/low 3's assessment if he had ever done that in the majors. Last year was his best year and his ERA was 3.61. His ERA for this season is 3.51. I think you have to expect from Contreras that he's going to continue to have a mixture of dominant starts and failed starts. That is going to leave him with an ERA probably in the mid-to-high 3's. Last year he was an ace for a good period of time. Almost the entire second half and into the post-season. I think Contreras can pitch in the low 3's to mid 3's on a regular basis...ala an ace.
  7. Could anyone seperate his numbers from when he added that new arm angle?
  8. Juan Uribe and Brian Anderson are no longer concerning. 9 game winning streak or not, the White Sox starting staff has been awful for the past two weeks. Two starters with 5+ ERA's, one starter (the ace) has jumped from 1.83 to 3.54. The Sox are down to two consistantly good starters...last year they had four, and for a period, five. If you don't believe pitching is a problem this season, take a look at 2005, then take a look at Detroit now. It is a concern, and it needs to be addressed. (People called me stupid for asking about Smoltz.)
  9. I'm pretty angered about this loss. The Sox were in prime position to sweep with Jose on the bump and all he does is come out and give up 6 runs. What is with Contreras? In his last six starts he's seen his ERA jump from 1.83 to 3.54. That's almost a two run jump. Under four, sure, but the difference between 1.83 and 3.54 is pretty noticeable. Why, oh why is Cliff Politte still on the team? 60 day DL him, release him, whatever, but get him off the major league field. Bring Montero back up and look for the trade. Is the starting staff going to click together anytime soon? Ever? We saw what happens when the staff gets it going last year and we're seeing it again this year in Detroit. PITCHING WINS GAMES, NOT OFFENSE. Contreras, Garland and Vazquez, frankly, have been crap the past week or two. (Call this a rant.)
  10. QUOTE(Rowand44 @ Jun 28, 2006 -> 09:24 PM) The gun was quick but Jas is right, the first pitch he threw was a cutter when Morgan started to talk about it but the 2nd one, was a slider. If I recall correctly, the one he threw 97 MPH broke more than the other pitch?
  11. Perez is an interesting name, though I don't think the Sox are in much of a position to do anything with him. A 6.63 ERA is horrible anywhere you pitch, and given that the Sox are a major contender in a tight race, I don't think the Sox can afford to have Perez anywhere near the team. It's an intriguing prospect seeing what he has done before, but I just don't think the Sox can afford him time on the ML roster hoping he fixes his mechanics and rights the ship. Unless, of course, they can place him in AAA.
  12. QUOTE(Chisoxfn @ Jun 28, 2006 -> 11:35 AM) That 97 MPH pitch was not a slider. The next pitch he threw was more of a slider. The 97 MPH pitch was more of a cutter. Still, you don't see many 97 MPH cutters. Cutters don't break as much as the 97 MPH pitch Jenks threw. There's no way it wasn't a slider. The gun MAY have been off, but it was a slider.
  13. QUOTE(witesoxfan @ Jun 28, 2006 -> 04:35 AM) And there you have the two varying degrees of best team. The Sox should win either way you look at it. The 5th team ever to go wire-to-wire in 100+ years of Major League Baseball? That's a pretty damn good team. Everyone playing a large part in the team's success? That's a pretty damn good team. But they couldn't hit.
  14. QUOTE(Hangar18 @ Jun 26, 2006 -> 12:07 PM) I didnt know what to expect from him entering the season. But that first month, watching the way he Selected his Pitches and Crushed balls, .310, 60HRs and 150 RBI was a certainty............... Going about things the way hes doing, he wont hit those numbers. Obviously?
  15. This show is all about the jokes. The acting is terrible, the plots are thin...but, it's hilarious. Who doesn't like a dirty joke?
  16. QUOTE(FlaSoxxJim @ Jun 27, 2006 -> 12:37 AM) Just finished listening. Good stuff, but it made me want to pee. By the way, Camus is a moron, for what ever it's worth.
  17. QUOTE(Hawkfan @ Jun 26, 2006 -> 03:15 PM) ozzie never throws in the towel, taking out crede and dye is not throwin it in, gload and ozuna are good hitters that can get the job done A Hawk fan that is a homer? Go figure...
  18. QUOTE(AssHatSoxFan @ Jun 26, 2006 -> 12:34 PM) ozzie just had to get Uribe in the game so Miller could pronounce his name oooooh-ribe Those were my thoughts as well.
  19. QUOTE(WCSox @ Jun 22, 2006 -> 12:27 PM) No, he'll get additional games for his Moronotti comments. I'm thinking that Selig will give him 5 days and a $10,000 fine, which an arbitrator will probably knock down somewhat. Is there anything that protects Ozzie from situations like that? Any sort of freedom of speech in MLB? Though slander could be an issue?
  20. QUOTE(tealeafreaderii @ Jun 22, 2006 -> 09:12 PM) hit 94-95 couple times in big spots tonight... (and the gun was pretty acurate... had jenks at 97-99 and the Card's stud hit 95) DJ said a few broadcasts ago that Freddy's velocity was on the rise.
  21. QUOTE(Steve9347 @ Jun 21, 2006 -> 10:32 AM) thanks for the tip, Steff yes, any monkey can go to weather.com, i was hoping for season ticket holder info that might have experienced a similar game and would know around what time the game would be called. It could be called at ANY time, but it won't be before 7.
  22. QUOTE(SoxFan101 @ Jun 21, 2006 -> 12:08 AM) no way we take on that much salary.... People said that about hitting 100 mil. on the payroll as well.

    Smoltz

I forgot who wrote it and what paper it was in, but there was an article that suggested KW go after John Smoltz and Andruw Jones. I hadn't heard anything since then about either of the players coming to the White Sox. BUT, could KW make it happen? Jones makes 13.5 mil this season, and he's 29 years old. Smoltz is no better, 11 million and 39 years old. That's a lot of salary to bite, but I think they could start by shipping Freddy Garcia away. From there, if the Sox could for Atlanta to bite more off those two salaries, what else would Atlanta be looking for from the Sox? Do they have what it takes to get a deal like this made?
