Tennessee just isn't a very good team. It's a shame they got such a cake walk to next week. Hopefully Wichita St. can put them away on saturday. -
QUOTE(WHarris1 @ Mar 16, 2006 -> 05:17 PM) ^^^ Who the f*** wants to play ball at Montana? <{POST_SNAPBACK}> I feel bad for you, you had Nevada beating BC, right?
-
I had no idea who was even on Montana. Fazekis alone made me pick them without hesitation. I'm now regretting not taking a deeper look at that game.
-
Dick Vitale, Jay Bilas, and the ESPN crew loved what they saw from Boston College last weekend, but I hardly consider the opinions of three people to mean that a team is overrated. BC was ranked seventh, and they got a four seed. Thats insanity. On top of the s***ty seed, they were given a trip across the country, and were playing at 10:40 in the morning. This is definitly a wake-up call, but again, I hardly consider them overrated.

I now have no nails, and went through three pairs of pants. Overrated, my foot.

Wisconsin beating Villanova would be a dream come true for me, atleast if my Eagles are still around to wipe the floor with them.

**2005-06 High School Basketball thread**

Scheyer impressed me at times tonight, but he still takes really stupid shots at the most inoppurtune times. Three pointers with hands in his face down by one tonight not once, but three times? He's lucky he converted the one or Warren would have won. I suppose it doesn't matter too much now, but am I the only one who thinks hes going to be only an average to above average player at Duke? -

QUOTE(Chisoxfn @ Mar 13, 2006 -> 11:17 PM) Right now my final 4: Texas Memphis (Thinking real hard about UCLA being there though) Uconn Nova Texas vs Uconn in the finals Uconn winning it all If its not Texas in the final 4, my pick is Iowa being there and not Duke. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> You're a Southern Cal kid, how good is UCLA? -
OFFICIAL Bracket Rant Thread!!

QUOTE(Rowand44 @ Mar 13, 2006 -> 05:44 PM) Man, Digger goes out on a huge limb. Besides the 8-9, the only first round upset he picked was Seton Hall over Wichita State and that's just because he hates the valley. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Digger Phelps might be the worst analyst ESPN has, although I'm sure some people will say Gammons simply because I'm making the statement. Regardless, Phelps had an entire piece on College Basketball Tonight last week about how Notre Dame was going to turn heads and how they were capable of winning it all and being a dangerous team come tournament time. The next afternoon Notre Dame was gone. Same thing goes for Texas. This guys brackets, opinions, and everything inbetween are laughable. He had Texas winning it all last year, just like he does this year, and we all know what happened to that Texas team last year. Fact of the matter is, he predicted Notre Dame to beat Boston College by default last year, and it happened despite my 'Phelps Takes A Digger' sign in the crowd, and since then he's some guru. You might be better off doing the opposite of what he says in every single game and I couldn't be more serious. -
I'm feeling pretty confident about my bracket, although it seems as if I'm contradicting myself multiple times throughout the entire process.

QUOTE(whitesoxfan101 @ Mar 13, 2006 -> 02:08 PM) I picked BC to make the Final 4, which is a bad sign for BC fans. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Well I have SIU winning in the first round at the moment, so touche...

QUOTE(Rowand44 @ Mar 13, 2006 -> 01:21 PM) I think I'm about the only person who has BC losing to Nevada 2nd round. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Nevada's a tough team. I'm not knocking that pick. If Nevada was in another region, I'd have them going pretty far aswell.
-
By the way, I have never connected to a player as much as I've connected to Craig Smith. It will be tough to see him go regardless of how this team does.
-
QUOTE(whitesoxfan101 @ Mar 13, 2006 -> 09:52 AM) Outside of Illinois and then Bradley and SIU of course, I will be rooting for BC. I love your style of play, your players and how hard they play, and Al Skinner, who IMO is the 2nd most underrated game coach in the nation to Bo Ryan. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Good man. Personally, I feel as if this team is one of the most dangerous in all of college basketball. With yesterday's performance, and pretty much this weekend in general, it's become very clear to most analysts that this Boston College team is for real. Some people here are comparing Boston College this year, to the teams of the past who struggled mightily in the tournaments, and to those people, I have a few things to say. First and foremost, depth has been a major problem with this team. Last year, a seven man rotation was used, and for a team that bangs as much as they do, wear and tear had been built up after starting the season with twenty straight. This year's team has a nine man rotation with a Sean Williams whose rustyness from starting the season halfway through has subsided, the extremely athletic and high flying Marquez Haynes, the upincoming Tyrese Rice, and the future Craig Smith in Akida McClain. And that's just referring to the bench. The fact that Craig, Jared, and Luis rarely see pine, and the fact that they have aged not only on the court but off the court aswell, and I am not even referring to the progress they've made on there own, but as a whole entire unit aswell. I don't know what to expect from this team, to be honest with you. The bias in me wants me to say they can be National Champions, but then foul trouble for Sean Marshall and seven JJ Redick three pointers later, and my Eagles are done. In all seriousness, bias aside, this team is very capable of making a run deep, and are far too good to not be one of the remaining sixteen. Whether you choose for them to upset Villanova, who I think they match-up well against, or not, is your choice. /end rant

QUOTE(Balta1701 @ Mar 9, 2006 -> 02:51 PM) So...if you want to correctly follow the marketing...you can't be red & white any more, you must in fact be cream & crimson. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Perhaps I am do for a name change in the future. Maybe that way people wouldn't snap at me right away thinking my name was for IU and not for the Red Sox (crimson) and White Sox (cream). What about you, whats your situation Balta?

QUOTE(aboz56 @ Mar 9, 2006 -> 01:35 PM) Graduated from there in 2004. It's a great place and you'll enjoy it. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Yea, I've visited a couple times now and have had the time of my life each time. I'm real excited, although having any motivation through the finish line in my second semester of this year is a major concern. Oh well, I'm sucking it up, ha. By the way, I just asked you to be my friend. Infact, I got anxious to see some IU students so I created my Indiana facebook account. You have a girlfriend who goes to Bellarmine? My good friend is getting a full ride there for lacrosse. I hadn't heard of it until him. Pretty interesting.

QUOTE(aboz56 @ Mar 9, 2006 -> 08:40 AM) Got the idea for the title of the sig from an IU facebook group. Do you go to IU? <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Right now I don't, but I am senior in high school and will be a freshman in Bloomington next fall. EDIT: Do you go to IU?

QUOTE(aboz56 @ Mar 7, 2006 -> 09:55 PM) Got the idea from a Facebook group, may be where you saw it. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Your signature is awesome by the way. Did I hear facebook?

QUOTE(aboz56 @ Mar 7, 2006 -> 07:27 PM) Why? He went to IU and took them to the title in 1981. He can visit anytime, just not coach. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> I should be idolizing him now that I'm a Hoosier myself, but being with the Knicks I have trouble doing so. I do agree though, he can visit, but please god don't let him coach.

White Sox Acquire Infielder Alex Cintron

QUOTE(Chisoxfn @ Mar 8, 2006 -> 07:27 PM) I think its worth noting that R&W never said it was a bad trade. He simply said it wasn't a steal. He said it was a good trade, but the Dbacks made it more because of cash considerations. Doesnt' take away the fact that it was a good move. I think he said that the move favored the Sox, just not in the fashion in which some posters called it a steal. I tend to agree because a steal would be the type of deal involving a player who is expected to have a huge impact on the club. For example...when we acquired Bartolo Colon...that was a steal. We got ourselves a super star for Osuna and some mediocre prospects (I think Rocky Biddle was a part of that trade as well). <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Excellent post. I think someone else needed to clarify because when something is said from my name, it is going in one ear and out the other. Thanks. -
White Sox Acquire Infielder Alex Cintron

QUOTE(southsider2k5 @ Mar 8, 2006 -> 07:10 PM) And if you go back and read the thread, he never once brought up or mentioned a Red Sox player first, and repeatedly tried to steer the conversation back to this particular deal. I got to see his fandom, Alex Gonzalez, and Manny Ramirez all mentioned off of the top of my head by other people who weren't RnW. Stick up for the White Sox all you want, but what the kid thought of Alex Gonzalez meant nothing to what he thought of the deal. It would be like me following around RockRaines and mentioning Charles Macon and Maurice Clarett as failed OSU Buckeyes everytime he posted about the White Sox. One has nothing to do with the other, and doing so would ruin just about every thread it got posted in. This thread was about the Baj/Cintron deal, and that is exactly what RnW posted about. He didn't like the deal why most everyone did, and instantly someone had to mention the Red Sox, then we got 8 pages of crap with an occasional nugget of good conversation mixed in. Maybe the problems between everyone got resolved at the end, but the point I am making bore mentioning in my opinion as an admin. Just because the kid is a Red Sox fan, doesn't mean every single thread he posts in where he disagrees with somone, they have to mention the Red Sox to validate their arguement. It makes for terrible threads. Maybe now RnW can post without someone mentioning the Red Sox, or WhiteSoxJosh can post without someone mentioning Kyle Orton. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Thank You. -
Wow. Im speechless. What a catch.

It's kind of funny that Willie has been so accomodating to the Red Sox wishes of playing in the outfield and the dreaded short stop position which he refused to give a try with the White Sox. Still, I love a guy like this: "He had me down 0-2, [and] I thought he was going to throw me a curveball," Harris said. "[but] he mixed it up with another fastball for a ball [to make the count 1-2]. Then he came back with another curveball in the dirt, [running the count to] 2-2. And now I'm thinking, 'You know, he doesn't want to go 3-2 on me, because he doesn't want to take a chance to walk me.' So right now in my mind, I'm getting ready to hit, right here. He's throwing 98 miles an hour, so you better get ready. got a pitch that I could handle, and I got good wood on it. It was outstanding. Outstanding."

FORT MYERS, Fla. -- It was getting late on the night of Oct. 26, 2005, at Minute Maid Park in Houston. The Astros and White Sox were scratching hard for runs in Game 4 of the World Series, and it was a fruitless exercise for seven long innings. Then came a burst of energy off the bench named Willie Harris, and he excitedly dug in against hard-throwing Astros closer Brad Lidge. With the chance to win the World Series, Harris, who had been used sparingly in the postseason (not to mention the regular season), wasn't going to let the opportunity slip away. So after falling behind, 0-2, he got back into the count at 2-2 and then raked a single to left, setting in motion what would wind up the only run in a monumental 1-0 victory for the White Sox. Harris, a non-roster invitee who is determined to win a bench spot with the Red Sox this spring, moved to second on a bunt, scooted to third on a grounder to the right side and scored on Jermaine Dye's single up the middle. That was then, and Harris will soon have a World Series ring to commemorate scoring the only run in the clinching game for the White Sox, a team that hadn't won the World Series since 1917. "You know, I look at it like this: no one else can tell you they scored the winning run in the 2005 World Series," said Harris. "Somebody may have done it in another year, but just to be able to go out and contribute and let your teammates know that you're there, win or lose ... it made me feel really good on the inside. ... If I never do anything else in this game, that's something I can claim." What he'll try to do for the Red Sox this year is a little of everything. Second base? Harris can play that. If you need an emergency shortstop, he can do that, too. Outfield? Harris, who started for the Red Sox at center field in Saturday's exhibition game, plays all three spots. Speed? With 10 stolen bases in just 56 games last year, Harris clearly has more than most of his Red Sox teammates. Much like he did for the White Sox late that night in October, what Harris hopes to provide for the Red Sox is energy in the late innings. "Yeah, I definitely feel that way. Playing small ball, that's my game," Harris said. "You look throughout the lineup, you don't really have guys that play that game anymore here. You've got guys like [David Ortiz], Manny [Ramirez] and Trot [Nixon] -- big power guys [and] you also need that small man in there to set the table a little bit -- and we do have that in Coco [Crisp] and Mark Loretta. It's just good to have another one, just in case. If that's going to be my role, I'm looking forward to it." The diminutive and athletic Harris, who talks fast and casually does backflips during the down time of Spring Training drills, likes his "little engine that could" persona. spring training 2006 News and features: • Sore knee holding Huckaby back • Pauley, Sox fall to Marlins • Manny shows no rust in spring debut • Schilling adds two pitches to his arsenal • Red Sox notes: Manny's still in the groove • Flaherty announces his retirement Multimedia: • March 7 galleries: Part 1 | Part 2 • March 3 photo gallery • Petraglia on Manny's mindset • Browne on Manny's first day in camp • March 1 photo gallery • Feb. 28 galleries: Part 1 | Part 2 Spring Training info: • MLB.com coverage | Schedule | Ballpark | Tickets "There's all kinds of ways you can get on the field when you're a small guy and you play small ball: you make all the fundamental plays, all the routine plays," said Harris. "I think that's really working for me right now." It clearly worked for him during his moment of glory in the World Series. Harris can remember every detail about his at-bat with Lidge. "He had me down 0-2, [and] I thought he was going to throw me a curveball," Harris said. Outstanding." Though the moment was a little more than four months ago, Harris knows that the Red Sox could need a similar spark seven months from now. And if they call his name in the late innings, Harris will be ready. *** That was easy.
