QUOTE(witesoxfan @ Aug 28, 2005 -> 08:52 AM) So in the end, the Cubs turned Jason DuBois, a guy they essentially wanted to just dump, into a very solid leadoff hitter, setting themselves up to make a run. After that run did not materialize, they then traded Lawton for a 21 year old starter in A who has put up very solid numbers this year. That is not bad trading right there <{POST_SNAPBACK}> I can see why some might like the trade, it just baffles me that the market for a player of Matt Lawton's caliber is so low.

So... Todd Walker.. -
QUOTE(SnB @ Aug 29, 2005 -> 11:53 PM) they play in champaign quite often <{POST_SNAPBACK}> They've been all over with the Warped Tour, I wouldn't doubt they go down there all the time.

QUOTE(fathom @ Aug 29, 2005 -> 11:52 PM) Drop it. I could care less what this "poll" says. I don't get where you ever thought I said Walker was better defensively than Bellhorn. We need HITTING, and Walker is better than that. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> I'm of the belief that this team needs base runners. Mark Bellhorn gets on base just as well as Todd Walker. -

QUOTE(Dick Allen @ Aug 29, 2005 -> 11:47 PM) I would rather have Todd Walker on my team than Willie Harris who was recalled today as Crede went on the DL. The White Sox need to pick up someone who can hit or there will be no joy at the end of this baseball season. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> No doubt about that. -

QUOTE(fathom @ Aug 29, 2005 -> 11:46 PM) Walker had a terrible reputation for his defense in Boston. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> deservingly so.. As for Tangotiger, his stuff is brilliant. I started a thread here a while ago without much interest. -
It's incredible the popularity that Fall Out Boy has gotten in the last year. One of my best freinds brother's is in the band, and all the guys for the most part are from the Northern suburbs.

QUOTE(CWSGuy406 @ Aug 29, 2005 -> 10:13 PM) Last year, Bellhorn (in 124 games at 2B) had a ZR of .843. This year, in 82 games as a 2B, he's had a ZR of .817. In 2003, playing 139 games for Boston, Walker had a .788 ZR. In 89 games at 2B in 2004, he had an .824 ZR. In 2005, in 72 games, he's had a ZR of .830. For some reason, I can only access Mark Bellhorn's PECOTA page on Baseball Prospectus, but last year, they have Bellhorn as five runs worse than the average 2B-man. Tango Tiger's Scouting Report: By The Fans, For the Fans has Walker below average in each of the seven categories. Meanwhile, it has Bellhorn as just about average in each of the seven categories. I'm not going to act like I know he's better -- because I don't. But, I find it absolutely histerical that you KNOW that Walker is underrated defensively, and that you KNOW that Bellhorn is below average defensively. It's a joke, really... Difference being, in a couple of days, Bellhorn will come free. Walker will cost a pretty good prospect, IMO. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> There's no question on this one, my freind. Mark Bellhorn is very similar to Bill Mueller defensively in that he's a very quiet, humble guy whose defensive statistics don't do him justice. I can't remember more than one or two plays that Bellhorn had really boffed, Crede-esque(haha). Hell, even the play he got injured on, he got to the ball... -

QUOTE(CWSGuy406 @ Aug 29, 2005 -> 09:48 PM) I believe Mark Bellhorn's .328 OBP would rank higher than everyone else on the team besides Podsednik, Iguchi, and Konerko. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> You are correct, and as I mentioned a few days ago. Watching how badly Bellhorn has struggled this year, that is one of the most disgusting statistics I have ever seen. -

QUOTE(RockRaines @ Aug 29, 2005 -> 09:42 PM) the team needs hitting, Bellhorn hits about as well as my girlfriend. Walker's offense is far superior to Bellhorns. I understnad your RSN lovefest with Bellhorn, but come on now. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Todd Walker is a former Red Sox, just like Mark Bellhorn. This isn't any Red Sox Nation lovefest here, or anywhere for that matter. -

QUOTE(fathom @ Aug 29, 2005 -> 09:18 PM) Walker is a far superior hitter than Bellhorn is. If the Sox acquire a player, they better be able to help the team on offense. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Well it depends what you want.. A terrible defensive player, who has been known for losing games with his glove, who won't get on base a lot but will hit 275 to 300. or An average defensive player, who is known for striking out and walking a ton, who will get on base at about the same clip but we'll hit 30-50 points lower. -

The idea that Todd Walker can be suggested as a possible third baseman/dh and Mark Bellhorn cannot further proves how unbelievable some people are. Todd Walker is a terrible defensive second baseman and cheat and many others ripped into me for suggesting a much more talented Bellhorn make the switch to third for this team. Bellhorn>Walker -
QUOTE(WHarris1 @ Aug 28, 2005 -> 10:07 PM) Erstad=last among qualified ML 1B in OPS <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Is that true? worse than Kevin Millar? Wow, I'm going to have to go double check this one. EDIT: wow, thats incredible.

QUOTE(Brian @ Aug 27, 2005 -> 02:27 PM) Whoops. 21-14, Blue Devils win the season opener. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> It was an excellent game. I wasn't nearly as impressed with Mitchell Moore as I was with the reciever, and even the quarterback for that matter. The New Trier defense came out soft, but held there own after the first quarter. The winning touchdown, for people who care, was a deflected ball off of a New Trier defender which then hit off the facemask of a Warren player and into another Warren player's hands with 17 seconds remaining in the game. It was incredible, but right place at the right time I guess. Oh well, Warren is terribly overrated from what I could gather and I don't expect much of them unless they somehow put it all together as the season moves forward. -
QUOTE(RockRaines @ Aug 26, 2005 -> 02:12 PM) Im not sure you would know what solid defense is at this point. Crede has been playing gold glove caliber defense for the sox for years now. Where have you been? Watching Manny cut off the cut off? <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Yes, thats it.

Jim, According to some quotes in the globe, Mark Bellhorn's agent is looking for the "perfect place" that would fit his needs and give him a good amount of playing time.
-
QUOTE(GoSoxGo @ Aug 26, 2005 -> 01:22 AM) Oh, he did clear waivers? Well, that sucks. If Crede is injured, I don't see the Red Sox helping us out in a trade. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Theo Epstein wants him to go somewhere he'll play. I don't think it would be a problem.
-
He cleared waivers and therefore must be acquired through trade. Odds are if the White Sox are willing to give up any type of prospect, the Red Sox would pay a good portion of that 725,000 he's owed.

QUOTE(RockRaines @ Aug 25, 2005 -> 09:35 PM) he is in a slump, thats for sure. But you have to admit. He is due, and I want him to be out there when he breaks out of it. Heres to hoping sept is one of Joe's "on" months. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Whats so comical about this entire thing with Crede is that alot of times people will discard how bad a players been by simply looking at a certain month that he excellend in; there is no such month for Joe Crede. The guy is hornary, won't shortern his swing, and is an automatic out. But he does play some solid defense :headshake

QUOTE(RockRaines @ Aug 25, 2005 -> 08:55 PM) They arent comparable to crede's defensive ability. And bellhorn is not your offensive savior. Thats why nobody wants him, because he isnt that damn good. On this team, with our budget and our focus, I would rather have dependable defense than mashers in my lineup. We had that the last few years, and it didnt work. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> They are comparable to Crede's defensive ability according to statistics whether you choose to believe it or not, and I never said Bellhorn was the offensive savior this team had to have. He's a quality on-base percentage guy on a team that has very few base runners and needs more. Joe Crede not a masher? He does nothing but get out and hit home runs? Maybe our definitions differ..

QUOTE(RockRaines @ Aug 25, 2005 -> 02:29 PM) You are lumping in Crede's defense with those hacks? Crede is a stellar defensive player and thats why he is in the lineup. In fact, his defense is one of the major parts of this first place team. There are other teams (red sox, yankees) who have absolutley no defense at times, but get by because of their high-priced sluggers. We dont have that luxury and therefor get by with our pitching and our defense. Put Bellhorn at 3B and there goes a major strength for the team. He doesnt fit on this roster IMO. There IS a reason that nobody else wants him FWIW. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Those hacks you speak of are comparable to Crede by statistics. On a team that is defensively sound, yet cannot hit the ball, some measures need to be taken to fix the offense whether that be Bellhorn or someone else.
