  1. QUOTE (iamshack @ Dec 6, 2016 -> 08:15 AM) I don't disagree with you about Turner, I'm just saying I think Hahn and Co are holding out for Turner still. I think if the discussion was about the remaining prospects, and Giolito and Robles were agreed upon, they would have been hammering this thing out last night. The absence of rumors overnight suggests that did not happen. Not quite sure there is as big of a difference between Turner's perceived value and Benintendi's, but you certainly seem to feel as though Benintendi is a possible get while Turner is not. Is there really a huge difference between a package of Benintendi/Devers/Kopech and Turner/Giolito/Robles? I'd take the latter, but I think some here would choose the former. If Hahn can get either of these packages, I think White Sox fans would be ecstatic. I agree with you in regards to Hahn holding out for a headliner who is pretty much at the MLB level already.
  2. How long ago was Giolito's Tommy John surgery? That's a bit of a red flag.
  3. QUOTE (DirtySox @ Dec 5, 2016 -> 08:44 PM) Christopher Crawford ‏@Crawford_MILB 9s9 seconds ago Carlos Rodon, Luc Giolito, Reynaldo Lopez, Carson Fulmer, Alec Hansen, Zack Burdi. Strikeouts are pretty cool. Strikeouts are cool. But so are position players.
  4. QUOTE (South Sider @ Dec 5, 2016 -> 08:41 PM) Talks of a deal nearing a conclusion puts pressure on other teams like Houston or Boston to start ponying up and quit with the "untouchables" crap. Or go home without Sale. Speaking of "untouchables" I would be more comfortable with this deal if Turner was in it.
  5. QUOTE (ChiliIrishHammock24 @ Dec 3, 2016 -> 07:34 PM) What does that even mean? I'm getting sick of the Cubs being the apparent model for everyone else and benchmark of how teams are constructed. Well it pains to me to say, they are the World Series Champions and with that young core-- they will be very good for the next 3-4 seasons. Normally the team that most recently wins it all becomes the most attractive model. In this case-- its unique because the Cubs were very transparent about their plans early on-- pretty much indirectly admitting to their fansbase they planned on tanking for multiple seasons to obtain high draft picks and seek out quality prospects. When Theo took over in 2012, the Cubs had nowhere near the assets that the White Sox currently have to offer. If Hahn does this right, the White Sox farm system and main roster will be very fun to watch in the very near future. Listen, I know not all the prospects the White Sox get in return will stick-- but as important as quality of returns-- it doesn't hurt to acquire quantity as well. Chris Getz-- you will be very busy the next few years. Don't screw up the development of our incoming prospects and high draft picks. With this accelerated rebuild, I want my favorite team ready to compete for a World Series by 2019-- 100 years after the sad blacksox scandal. How sweet would that be? "100 years after throwing a WS, the White Sox win it all. Okay, sorry. I'm a bit of a baseball romantic.
  6. I wonder if Houston would be interested in Abreu as well? If that's the case-- a Springer, Bergman, Reed + more isn't out of the question. I'm happy Houston is jumping in on the action. I'm tired of hearing about DD's stubbornness in Boston and personally, I'm not the biggest fan of anything the Dodgers will offer.
  7. QUOTE (fathom @ Nov 23, 2016 -> 09:55 AM) Hahn is just the best Triumvirate of stupidity=KW, Hahn and Jerry. I have this horrible feeling that Hahn will feel the desperation and deal Sale for a very underwhelming package. I have zero trust in these guys to run a successful rebuild.
  8. QUOTE (Jose Abreu @ Nov 20, 2016 -> 12:20 AM) Jeff PassanVerified account ‏@JeffPassan Sale, Quintana, Frazier and Robertson fits what the Dodgers need. And White Sox like Bellinger, Verdugo, DeLeon, Calhoun and Yasiel Puig. The best player in that package is Bellinger. And even he doesn't impress me all that much. We are talking about Chris Sale here.
  9. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Nov 19, 2016 -> 06:07 PM) This sounds like the no offers of three years or longer last offseason nonsense. Why we would even put idiotic stuff like that out there as a floating/planted media rumor is beyond me. How about we finally get some results? I agree. They simply can't make a decision or focus on one direction or when they do actually pick a direction, they fail to execute-- like all the time. Seriously, how do they still have a job? Their rationale for not making trades at the deadline in 2015 was they felt they "were still in it" Boy that was horrible judgment. Not to mention they half assed another winter of fixing the team- bringing in Frazier and a bunch cheap scraps. In 2016 at the trade deadline-- their rationale for not beginning the rebuild was that "teams in the race were unwilling to deal from their main roster to obtain high needs-- we will have more trade options in the offseason when there is an even playing field" or "it was hard to deal veterans with more than one year left on their contracts... Seriously? Nobody wanted Frazier or Melky? Seriously, what will their next excuse be for failing to operate a successful rebuilding offseason? "Nothing panned out so we will gage the market again in July"
  10. I'm sorry but i'm not okay with JUST Benetendi, Kopech and Devers for Sale. Perhaps for Quintana I would accept this deal. However, for Sale-- I want Moncada, Devers AND Benetendi. You can keep Kopech. We need position players who can hit. Pitching should be the least of the team's concerns right now.
  11. QUOTE (kitekrazy @ Nov 15, 2016 -> 07:14 PM) It seems like the trend is organizations are reluctant to trade valuable position players when it involves aces. They prefer to over pay for pitching in the free agent market. And that's why a team will give the White Sox a haul for Sale and/or Q. The market for free agent pitchers is trash.
  12. QUOTE (SouthSideSale @ Nov 15, 2016 -> 11:11 AM) Why it doesn't scare me? We've sucked since 2008. Yep. No morale victories here. KW and Hahn have failed mightily.
  13. The only thing that scares me is letting Hahn/KW run this rebuild. However, it's a breath of fresh air in knowing they are FINALLY doing it.
  14. At this point, I'm assuming most MLB clubs will express interest. It's a matter of which team has the assets and the guts to pull the trigger.
  15. With all the attention surrounding Sale and Q possibly being dealt, I can see something else occurring first. Like an Abreu deal or an Eaton deal. A deal like that would officially signal to a rebuild. This will essentially get other executives excited about a possibility of getting Sale or Q which can start an early bidding war between GMs.
  16. QUOTE (Soxfest @ Nov 9, 2016 -> 09:26 AM) I am all for a rebuild, but have no confidence Kenny and Rick are the guys to do it. The Sox scouting department for evaluating talent is just abysmal. Case and point Avi being a 5 tool player. We all know the time is now for a rebuild. However, I agree-- it's really hard to trust Hahn and KW to get the necessary prospects back in return. I guess the only thing we can somewhat hold our hat onto is that Nick Hostetler seems to have a real good pulse on prospects. Since they will be avoiding the veteran acquisition route, this may work out after all. If i'm Hahn, i'm putting all my trust in Hostetler's judgement.
  17. QUOTE (Charlie Haeger's Knuckles @ Nov 8, 2016 -> 01:37 PM) So I guess RickyGM will be vindicated for not doing jack s*** during the 2016 trade deadline?? Only time will tell. They have put themselves in a very tempting opportunity to completely re-haul the state of the franchise. The organization currently lacks depth, after a few trades this winter-- that can change dramatically.
  18. QUOTE (SoxPride18 @ Nov 8, 2016 -> 03:49 PM) If done correctly with some of our huge trade chips and the FA class in 2018, we can compete in 2019. Hahn mentioned a few times last August that the team will likely step away from the 'half-measured' approach. Either they will go ALL IN (which would be silly with this free agent class) Or they are rebuilding. Something that is long overdue. With this many assets to sell off, a 2019 target year does seem realistic. You would be selling high on Sale, Q, Eaton and Abreu and also can get reasonable returns for 1 year rentals: Frazier and Melky.
  19. If the White Sox are dangling Sale and/or Q at the beginning of these GM meetings, they literally do control the fate of the entire offseason. This can turn into a mega bidding war that can benefit the White Sox for a very long time. The pitching market sucks. Time to finally sell high on players, in this case-- very very high!
  20. QUOTE (Donaldo @ Nov 4, 2016 -> 07:16 PM) I'm praying for it. I remember when Kenny was pretty transparent about his goals for our team. Nowadays he can't be found and butts in at the weirdest times with the media to defend the honor of Hahn and their piss poor decisions and lack of direction. He has officially put a strain on his relationship with the fanbase. The fans do not trust him anymore. Nor do they respect and/or trust that Hahn is really in charge of player personnel. KW should not only be on the hot seat, but he should have left a long time ago. Us White Sox fans are trapped into hoping these stubborn executives can finally admit to their wrongdoings and set a new goal for a rebuild and be clear and open about it. It's a shame JR is too old to even care about wins or loses anymore. For him it's only about profit and personal relationships. If this was any other franchise, Hahn and KW would have been fired a long time ago. Robin had to walk away on his own terms (apparently?) Another blinder by our fantastic front office. Hopefully KW will seek employment elsewhere since JR is too wimpy to fire anyone these days.
  21. Also, if they do in fact tap into the FA market or make more 'middle of the road' acquisitions, because they feel 'They are close'. And their explanation for avoiding a rebuild is that "White Sox fans don't have patience for that!" I WILL FLIP MY LID!
  22. The fact that KW and Hahn are still around is beyond me. I am 100% convinced they will be around as long as JR still has a heat beat. The only way we see significant front office changes is when we see a new ownership. The Blackhawks and Cubs have both proven that. Rocky Wirtz saw the problems within the organization and made changes right away! Tom Rickets followed suit when he took over the Cubs. Now we can hope--Jerry and his cronies can change and come up with an actual game plan. However, how many more failed attempts and playoffless seasons must we experience before that happens?!? White Sox fans deserve better. We are loyal and hungry for a winner. If that means a 2-3 year rebuild so we can be really good for 5-6 straight seasons-- i'm on board. In fact, MOST White Sox fans will be on board.
  23. QUOTE (Doc Edwards Shot @ Nov 2, 2016 -> 01:57 PM) Aren't the Cubs about as rich as the Dodgers/Yankees/Red Sox? Seems to me they could afford to keep a lot of their current players even when they come knocking for new contracts. Perhaps they can keep their players? Regardless, it still may be challenging for them to keep ALL of that talent in the open market. The fact of the matter is, they have about 4-5 more years of being really good. By the time they reach that 4th or 5th year, the White Sox should be knocking on the door.
  24. The way I see it, the Cubs are in year 2 of their 5 year title contending window. They will be knocking on the door every year until these kids become FA's and begin asking for Dodger/Yankee/Red Sox money. The Indians are also in the beginning stages of their competitive window. With that said, the White Sox need to rebuild and trade off their assets. The target date should be 2019 or 2020 to be ready to compete. The White Sox arrival would ideally mean the departure of this Cubs era of sustained success. (2015-2020). The time is now to trade off assets like Sale and Quintana to obtain near MLB ready prospects. I was looking at the farm system depth today and I am starting to realize that we are getting some decent depth down there. (FINALLY!) This may or may not be the thread to talk about this but with the likes of Spencer Adams and Alec Hanson being ready in the near future. Rodon ready to move up the rotation, Shields here to eat up innings (and thats about it) and Fulmer ready to learn as a starter at the MLB ready, the time is now to take advantage of the market. Sell high on Sale and Q and lets continue to beef up the farm. Let's reestablish a new core and let's do this the right way. No more re-tooling. Let's rebuild. With all of the assets-- this rebuild can be accelerated to a point where they can be ready by 2019 in my opinion. The free agent market for starting pitching is pretty weak. The market for Sale and Q this winter will be HUGE! I have never seen KW or Hahn sell high on any of the White Sox veterans. I really hope they do so now. Trade these guys: Sale, Q, Abreu, Melky, Frazier and Robertson. This should reshape the entire roster to a point where we'll have plenty to be excited about moving forward. A feeling us White Sox fans haven't had in a LONG time. The hope of a real success future.
  25. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Oct 30, 2016 -> 10:56 AM) An impossible thought from last night... Say the Cubs do get knocked out by the Indians. If the Cubs come to the White Sox with a player package starting around Kyle Schwarber, could a deal get done? What would it take to get a deal done? This is an intriguing, yet impossible thought for sure. I think everyone knows that Schwarber is a DH playing in the NL. If the Cubs were smart, they would deal Schwarber for a front line starting pitcher. If the Cubs want Sale, the White Sox will likely request Schwarber AND Baez. I just don't see the Cubs ever giving up on Baez. Although, if the Cubs do enter a bidding war with Boston, Texas etc-- a Baez/Schwarber package might be the most intriguing.
