QUOTE (bmags @ Aug 10, 2016 -> 03:40 PM) Let me be first to put this lineup out there: 2017 White Sox LF - Puig CF - Gomez RF - Eaton 3b-Frazier SS - Anderson 2b - LORRIE 1b - Abreu DH - Melky C - Matt Wieters Retool and Recycle. The White Sox way.

QUOTE (dmbjeff @ Aug 10, 2016 -> 03:32 AM) While I'd love them to compete in 2017, imagine them spending $50 million of 3 big FA's. What kinda contracts are they giving out to sign them, 4-5 year deals for guys in their 30's? I have a feeling I know how that works out in the end. Then in 2018, you have to figure out a way to replace your 3B, 2B and LF as they will all be free agents. Throw another $50 million at it? Throw AAAA talent at those spots and hope they work? Sign cheap over the hill vets? They need to sell. They need to move Sale and Q for huge hauls, and be ready to compete for 2018 and beyond. You are 100% correct. They cannot keep patching up holes on this roster with overpriced free agents or shall we say-- bargain shop for B and C level free agents out to prove something. And can the White Sox afford to give up any more prospects via trade? This farm system is so thin it's scary.

QUOTE (GreenSox @ Aug 1, 2016 -> 02:40 PM) What does this mean exactly? They want him to or don't want him to? There's a 99.9% chance he won't exercise (the .1% is in case he pulls a Laroche and just quits). And, yes, they did deal a good piece for a declining pitcher, but that's a sunk cost. My question is will JR kick back the $20 mill he received from San Diego; because no one wants Shields at full salary. We all know Shields will not opt out of his contract. Unless he hates ridiculous amounts of money. Money he will not see in the open market. Another bone headed acquisition by the Hahn/KW death machine. What really grinds my gears is that the White Sox were in an incredible tail spin when they acquired him AND Shields himself was going through the worst rough patch of his career. Golly gee, that's exactly what a team in disarray needs! Hahn had an opportunity to redeem himself by selling high before the trade deadline but he failed... again. His excuse "He is under contract control for more than one season" and apparently teams shy away from that midseason, which is new to me?!? In most cases, isn't that more attractive for buyers at trade deadlines? We all know this team needs to hit the reset button. These half measures and retooling attempts have been crap. Can JR just man up and do whats best for this organization and let the Hahn/KW death machine go? Sadly, I doubt it. Status quo reigns supreme on the Southside

QUOTE (InTheDriversSeat @ Aug 7, 2016 -> 03:42 AM) Rick Hahn talked to Conner McKnight on White Sox Weekly (Saturday, August 6th), on WLS radio. The interview can be heard at this link: http://m.whitesox.mlb.com/cws/video/v55705...hite-sox-weekly . I love how he mentioned that the position player development in the organization is making progress as it helped them acquire Shields and Frazier. So let me get this straight, the few decent players you did produce-- were sent off for 30+ year old veterans and that's a good thing? How is this a sign of progress within the organization? You made the weak farm system weaker and your main roster still sucks. He can spin it however he wants-- this team is in a big mess and he along with KW are the reasons why. When he took over in 2013 and started acquirering young talent-- I was like "Finally!" Then 2015 happened and he turned into KW 2.0-- I'm sorry but he needs to go. We should not accept this as a fanbase . It has been 8 freakin years.

QUOTE (South Side Fireworks Man @ Aug 5, 2016 -> 10:34 PM) Why is it that the umps always seem to oblige the opposing managers but refuse to review when the Sox request? It's like they have no respect for Ventura. Does anyone respect him as a manager? We are better off with a potted plant on the bench.
-
QUOTE (SouthSideSale @ Aug 5, 2016 -> 09:44 PM) He's getting there certainly. It's a shame because I like the guy. I've agreed with most of his moves they just haven't worked. It's getting to the point where I'm hoping they stood pat with the exception of the Duke trade because there's going to be sweeping changes. Wishful thinking but I'm hoping. That's what I'm hoping for as well. The KW/Hahn machine put this organization in a horrible spot for various reasons throughout the years. It is time for some wholesale changes. The problem is, I just cannot imagine JR making these moves at this stage of his life. Anyone notice that he no longer discusses whitesox baseball with the media? Is it pure avoidance or does he truly accept the status quo? If it is the status quo, he needs to sell his majority share now.
-
QUOTE (Hatchetman @ Aug 4, 2016 -> 10:53 AM) No way in hell. He'd want to bring in ALL his own staff/coaches. That doesn't play around these parts. Sox only hire desperate people. So sad but so true. It's pretty pathetic how invincible Coop and KW are. That 2005 championship bought them both lifetime contracts with this organization. Note to the new manager (Sandy Alomar)-- don't even think about bringing in your own pitching coach. Not that I blame Coop for this crapstorm of an organization, it's just ridiculous how content everyone upstairs is with the status quo. When you fail over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over (8 years since last playoff birth) and your approach is relatively the same (retool), something is definitely wrong here.
-
QUOTE (Y2JImmy0 @ Aug 4, 2016 -> 08:44 AM) I'd be totally fine with Sandy Alomar as manager. Anybody is better than Robin and at least Sandy has some coaching experience, however for once can they hire a guy with previous successful MLB managing experience?
-
QUOTE (daggins @ Aug 4, 2016 -> 07:29 AM) Was this confirmed? I'd do Hawkins-like backflips if EVERYONE'S contracts were up after this horrible crap season. It doesn't mean they won't be back, but it lessens the likelihood, i'd think. They mentioned it on ESPN radio. It could be one of the reasons why they made minimal moves at the deadline. Perhaps Jerry has finally seen enough and told KW and Hahn to stand pat because he plans on cleaning house upstairs? I'm not sure Mr. Loyalty himself will do this at the age of 80, but has there ever been a better time to do it?
-
Outcome 1) If Hahn and KW are here for some reason, expect some more retooling. Sign some old, washed up veterans to fill in gaps in CF, C and DH etc.. They will try to bring back Robin, but he will leave on his own-- so they hire Sandy Alomar Jr to replace him-- another white sox-- JR guy. Same story, different corporate puppet. Outcome 2) If JR has the decency to finally do what's right and move on from KW and Hahn (their contracts expire after this season), and he brings in a new GM from outside the organization, than I expect a full blown rebuild. We are talking new scouts and a new philosophy from the top down. He will even have the ability to hire his own manager and coaching staff. The new GMs first big move, trade Sale to a team for a kings ransom-- the rebuild begins. Sadly, I believe outcome #1 is the more likely of the two scenarios. This organization is a joke and will continue to operate in the same manner. Apparently they believe one of these seasons, they will finally catch lightning in a bottle and 'outsmart' their competition. I mean who needs depth in the farm? That's soo overrated!

QUOTE (SouthSideSale @ Aug 3, 2016 -> 10:03 PM) Yet, Robin Ventura still has his job. With the way the White Sox organization operates, don't be surprised if they bring him back next year. -
QUOTE (ewokpelts @ Aug 2, 2016 -> 05:08 AM) This franchise is a joke. Lack of consequences and incompetence best exemplifies the current state of the White Sox organization. I'm starting to wonder if JR even wants to win? Apparently the White Sox are afraid to sell high on any of their veterans. I remember 2014, they had a golden opportunity to trade Alexei Ramirez away to the LA Dodgers for an impressive return of prospects. They decided to keep him and randomly Go For It prematurely in 2015. Alexei has a horrible 2015 season and he leaves for nothing via free agency the following year. As a GM you cannot let this happen. Know your damn team and finally value your farm system. Sale and Q aside, they could have traded Melky, Frazier, Robertson, Lawrie, Shields and Gonzalez for solid return packages. They could have sold very high on Adam Eaton who is having a tremendous season. I can understand holding onto Abreu because of his down season... But come on! Do your job as a GM! I'm starting to get the vibe that they won't sell anybody this winter, in fact they will try to retool and piece together another roster full of veterans and give it another 'Go' in 2017. This makes me wonder if they are all indeed insane. They have the same approach every year and it fails every time. I'm pretty sure that's the definition of insanity, so my conclusion to this hot mess is: Jerry and his puppets-- KW & Hahn are all certifiably insane.

QUOTE (Hatchetman @ Aug 1, 2016 -> 07:41 PM) JR doesn't want the team to suck too badly since the TV contract will be negotiated in a year or two. So he wants them to be mediocre and miss the postseason for two more seasons to obtain a decent TV deal rather than rebuild and obtain young and exciting prospects? I think networks would be more excited to get a deal with the White Sox who have a bright future.
-
QUOTE (GreenSox @ Aug 1, 2016 -> 05:38 PM) I heard a comment a week or so ago on the MLB radio channel that Williams' and Hahn's contracts are up after this year. It was just made in passing, so I have no idea whether it is accurate or not. Im praying this is true. This way JR wouldn't have to fire KW, Robin or Hahn. Something he seems to be afraid to do for some reason. Even though it's the most logical move he can make at this point.
-
QUOTE (Baron @ Aug 1, 2016 -> 05:26 PM) That's way too optimistic. That would be the correct thing to do. True. I can't remember the last time JR did what's best for this organization? This whole damn thing is stale, lacks a direction and is pretty boring. Nothing like Hahn saying 'We are mediocre' than not addressing necessary changes at the trade deadline. To me, this is simply irresponsible. Two consecutive seasons of not selling off key assets at the deadline. The whole "nothing prsented itself to us for the long term sustainable success" crap is getting so old. You are a bad GM, Rick. You are a bad president, Kenny. And Mr. Reinsdorf-- you are out of touch on what it takes to achieve modern day success, so yes you are a bad owner. My favorite team in all of sports sucks and that pisses me off.
-
QUOTE (Rowand44 @ Aug 1, 2016 -> 03:36 PM) I hate that I believe this but that's exactly what I think happened too. I know this is too good to be true. But is there any chance JR told KW and Hahn to stand pat because he plans on finally firing Hahn and KW at seasons end? Perhaps he wants his next GM to be in charge of the rebuild?

Is there a plausible argument for competing next year?

QUOTE (jeffro2525 @ Aug 1, 2016 -> 06:39 AM) It honestly sickens me that it's gotten to this point. You have Q and Sale (arguably TWO aces)to anchor your staff at team friendly deals and everything done around them was just a complete swing and miss...how does this happen? I don't blame the team trying to "go for it" the past few seasons. Q and Sale should have been a HUGE shortcut to competing in terms of filling out the rest of the roster. But it was botched...pretty badly. And this is why I believe all three (Robin, Hahn and KW) need to be let go at seasons end. They have put this organization in a horrible spot-- even with two of the best starting pitchers in the game. They do not deserve to be apart of a rebuild. Apart of me wonders if JR is FINALLY leaning toward this and that we only see minor trades today, while the rest of the deals will happen under a new regime this winter? It is very doubtful since JR never likes to admit when things are bad, plus he is 80 years old. It's doubtful he would be so bold in the final years of his life. Yet for some reason, I'm more hopeful now than I ever have been under JR's watch-- probably because things around the White Sox organization have become pretty bad on multiple fronts. -
White Sox trade Zach Duke to the STL Cardinals

QUOTE (kitekrazy @ Jul 31, 2016 -> 12:51 PM) That will change if he stays on the Sox farm. That is probably why he is coming up to the main roster right away. Not that the current coaching staff will help coach up and elevate his game by any means. -
FALSE: Moncada traded to White Sox

I saw a tweet from Peter Gammons saying the White Sox had scouts at every single Red Sox minor league game last night.. I'm sure some sort of dialogue is going on between the Red Sox and White Sox. -

QUOTE (captain54 @ Jul 28, 2016 -> 01:25 AM) According to Kenny Williams, no one is sure in the organization if they are buyers or sellers, or a combination of. I guess they are waiting for the outcome of the Cubs series. Sweep = Buyers. 3 of 4 = Buyers. Split = combo of buyer/seller. Split Cub series & Win Minny series = Buyers I think it is silly to base your organizations future on two series victories. They need to look at the big picture-- something they rarely do. I have zero faith Hahn/KW will make the best decision- directionally for this organization. -
The Possibility of the Curve Ball from the Sox...
GreatScott82 replied to shipps's topic in Pale Hose Talk
QUOTE (daggins @ Jul 27, 2016 -> 07:22 AM) I would like Hahn and KW conducting a fire sale because right now is the best time to do so. The trade market favors sellers, with a weak FA class, and the Sox have a weak farm to trade from. They would struggle to add even mediocre regulars, which would very likely lead to a repeat of this season's disappointment in 2017. There is another option - fire Hahn and KW, let Robin's contract expire, bring in a new GM, and have the fire sale this offseason. But we all know that no one is losing their job anytime soon. So, unless they add substantial payroll, I'd like to see a fire sale run by the people we've got. My prediction based on what I have seen with this team: 1) They will trade veterans: Robertson, Melky, Frazier and Lawrie. This will piss off Sale even more. 2) Robin Ventura leaves on his 'own accord' at season end since his contract runs out. 3) Hahn/KW stay. (Because JR is loyal and delusional) 4) Sale continues to throw management under the bus and will get traded this winter. 5) They keep Q, Eaton and Abreu to 'build a new young core around' instead of rebuilding properly. -

QUOTE (soxforlife05 @ Jul 25, 2016 -> 02:59 AM) If they aren't giving up anyone off the major league roster I wouldn't even pick up the phone until Moncada/Benintendi/Devers are agreed on, then let the Sox pick 2-3 others to throw in. They are just overvaluing their prospects due to recent major league success of a number of them. Trading those guys doesn't even hurt them that much with all the young talent they already have in the majors. And that is why we should not trust Hahn/KW to be in charge of this rebuild. Can you imagine if the White Sox organization knew how to scout and develop talent properly and they were the team that had 'all the young talent' to go along with Sale and Q? Even if they did a half way decent job overt the past 8 years, we would not be talking about trading two of the best pitchers in the baseball. There is a reason they coined the term 'retool' over the last 10 seasons. It is because they cannot develop for the life of them and they rely on acquirering veterans to fill in the plethora of holes on the MLB roster. How do they do that? By overpaying in the free agent market OR depleting the already thin farm system. Yeah.. We should not trust Hahn or KW with a rebuild. They put us in this tough spot, let a new leader do it the right way. This season has been pretty embarrassing-- from the lack of clubhouse leadership by Robin to the Sale vs Management debacles to just pure bad baseball. It is exhausting being a Sox fan these days.

QUOTE (hi8is @ Jul 23, 2016 -> 11:05 AM) 3 of the top 35 prospects in all of baseball and two more low minor tickets - that'd be my guess. 1) Moncada 2B 2) Devers 3B 3) Benintendi CF 4) Lakins RHP 5) Light RHP I'll take it! Knowing Dombrowski, so will he.
