  1. QUOTE (Eminor3rd @ Nov 3, 2017 -> 10:43 AM) I don't think the Cardinals will part with Kelly for damn near anything. They love him, have put a lot of work into him, and believe they need him to replace Molina. Didn't the Cardinals kick the tires on Avi in July? They do have interest. Carson Kelly is currently blocked by Molina, who is signed thru 2020. It doesn't seem to be that big of a stretch to see them deal him for slugging outfielder.
  2. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Oct 24, 2017 -> 12:32 PM) Chris Sale isn't a free agent until after the 2019 season. Roger that!
  3. On Garfien's podcast awhile back, he and Dan Hayes seemed pretty confident that the White Sox will hit big on this new TV deal. They even were making it seem as if they can use some of that $$ on the roster-- which is why they think Reinsdorf will go after some big time free agents in 2019! The Sox should be knocking on the playoffs door that year (if not getting closer to it). With Reinsdorf's age and desire to win one more WS, I just don't see a scenario where the Sox do NOT open up their wallets that year. Hmmm. A Manny Machado signing? A Chris Sale return? Dare I even say Clayton Kershaw?
  4. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Oct 17, 2017 -> 11:13 AM) I think you're dramatically underestimating how soon these guys will arrive. Kopech and Jiminez are likely to be up this year, IMO. We should even be thinking about where they are going to play - Kopech taking Shields's spot, avoid signing a big money corner OF unless he's tradeable for exactly that reason. Hansen I wouldn't even be surprised if they wound up approaching September callup thinking with him if he pulls off a full year at AA/AAA - I think he's a surprisingly early 2019 arrival. This is still the White Sox. These guys are going to be pushed upwards aggressively. Jiminez and Kopech may well even deserve it by midseason. With a good first half you might even see guys you aren't thinking about make their debuts. Hahn did say he will give these players as much time as possible. Now if they do force the issue, I would love to see them up here! But do you think that happens before September? I can see Kopech and Jimenez as being call ups then. Guys like Hansen and Dunning seem more like 2019 call ups or early add-ons for the 2019 season. For 2018, the #1 goal should be prospect development/ acquire more prospects through the trades of veterans. Sign as many 'buy-low' guys as they can and flip them. This will likely be the last year of the 'flipping' process before they give they give all of these kids a chance at this thing.
  5. This is a unique offseason. The White Sox did a fantastic job loading up the system. But by all means, it should not stop now. I know we want to see the first wave of young talent develop this year on the main roster: (Gioloto, Lopez, Fulmer, Moncada and yes even Anderson). But that next wave of prospects are not as close to contributing in 2018. Guys like Kopech, Hansen, Dunning, Jimenez and Rutherford are still a few years away. Until they get to that point and begin calling guys up, Hahn needs to what he has with veterans on the main roster. Guys like Avi, Davidson, Sanchez & Delmonico will have another full season proving their worth, but are they apart of the future contending team? Hahn needs to figure out what to do with players like this. Not only that, I would like to add more players like this in 2018 though free agency. The bullpen needs a complete makeover, there is still a gaping hole in CF, the C position can use a veteran and with Rodon being out, there is still room for a SP or 2. Hahn can easily add 7-8 veterans this winter through free agency with the hope of flipping them at the deadline for more prospect depth. Personally, I do not feel that Avi will be apart of the contending team. Hahn has the potential of selling pretty high this winter. He can also bet on Avi having a repeat type performance and possibly get a juicier package at the 2018 trade deadline.... regardless of what he decides to do this winter-- i am VERY interested. This team is headed in the right direction and I cannot wait for the future!!
  6. Speaking of Berman. How about game 2 when that ball went between Grafanino's legs? His call was so pathetic... "Oh NOOOOOOO and everybody is safe" lol
  7. I was tweeting back and forth with Hayes a couple days ago, he said one team is in on Swarzak, but expects to there to be more the closer we get to the deadline. I wonder who that team is? And while we are on the packaging veterans talk, I wouldn't package him with Melky, I would package him with Miguel Gonzalez. A team like the Brewers and Rockies come to mind in making an excellent trade partner...
  8. Harper will likely get the biggest contract in MLB history. Machado is a pretty darn good 2nd option though. Its hard to project $$ for that 2019 FA class, but i would assume 10 years/ $300 million wouldn't be too far off for Machado. I can easily see BH getting a half billion dollars.
  9. Farewell Q! I remember watching him in 2012 when the White Sox brought him on. After his first few starts, I knew we had something with this guy. In fact I compared his command (not stuff) to Johan Santana. I called him a future ACE and a lot of posters on this site made fun of me. They said "it's only a few starts, give me a break!" Well... 5 seasons later.... although he didn't become a tue Ace of this staff, he came pretty darn close. Good luck with your pitching future! You will be missed.
  10. QUOTE (daa84 @ Jul 13, 2017 -> 12:25 PM) so in addition to having a stacked farm system - also keep on mind how absolutely little money we have tied up beyond in 2018 and beyond Also... Seth Beer is still a possibility! Cheers White Sox fans! This is a great day!
  11. Wow... what a great return. Eloy Jimenez can MASH. Cease is an interesting arm... has a nasty curve and can be a top of the rotation dude. I don't know much about Rose and Flete. The Astros and Yankees really dropped the ball here. Keep that phone active, Rick. DRob and Kahnle are in high demand.
  12. Sooner than later means what exactly? I don't like the wording of that. Does that mean within the next few days or July 31st instead of the winter meetings? Perhaps "talks have intensified" would have been a better use of words? Maybe I'm just getting nit picky since we've been down this path before with Q in trade talks.
  13. I love that Hahn is asking for Torres AND Frazier. He should! If it leads to only one of those guys during negotiations, that's fine. I've brought up the scenario of getting Torres in a Q deal way back in December.. The fact that it's even a possibility this July makes me very happy. With Andujar moving up the ranks in the Yankees system, perhaps they won't be so reluctant to part ways with Torres? Especially after his season ending TJS? Also, I wouldn't count out the scenario of the Yankees also asking for DRob or Kahnle in a potential blockbuster. Q and DRob for Torres, Rutherford and Adams. Seems fair... I don't know... Q's value should be good. He is affordable, has 3.2 years remaining on his deal and has a very healthy track record.
  14. Other than Tim Anderson (maybe) and Carlos Rodon, I don't anticipate any of the players at the MLB level to be on this team after 2018. This rebuild is going to take time and right now the name of the game is to sell high on as many of these assets as possible. Sure there are thoughts of Abreu playing the 'mentor' role for the likes of Robert and Moncada, or possibly keeping this reborn Avi around for the future as well. But if these guys are tearing the heads off the ball and a team is desperate for another bat at the deadline or during the winter meetings, I do think Hahn will make the deal. We need to stop worrying about the main roster and focus more on farm depth. Not all of these prospects will stick, but the more of them we have, the better chance this rebuild will provide us fans something to truly be excited about. The 2018 and 2019 MLB drafts are extremely important. This years trade deadline will be HUGE as DRob and Quintana are top targets. I do believe both will be traded and we will be pleased with the returns. Frazier may bring the white sox a low level guy and Melky will likely be a non-waiver deal candidates in August. To me, the most intriguing trade candidates are Kahnle and Swarzak. If Hahn can flip these two relievers into prospects from the Top 100 list... wow! This December will be very very interesting. Providing Q and DRob were the two big names traded at the deadline, I'm very curious to see if Hahn sells high on Avi and what the market values him. Is this all star season a fluke, or is this the real Avi? Seeing reports that the Cardinals are interested in him is encouraging. Any AL team seeking a DH/ OF will have to offer something good. If his poor defense is dragging down his value, id say hold onto him one more year and put him in LF, a much easier position to cover. Abreu will likely draw a lot of value this winter as teams begin to reset. If the Sox are certain about drafting a guy like Seth Beer or believe Collins or another recent draft pick can stick at 1b in the near future, I say sell high this December. This rebuild is a process, I'm very happy with it thusfar-- so much needs to get done-- selling high and drafting well is the name of the game. Things will be very interesting after this trade deadline....the farm system is starting to shape up nicely-- I haven't said that since the year 2000!
  15. I listened to the Hahn interview yesterday and when he mentioned those underwhelming offers for Q, I understood why he decided to keep him. He was simply banking on Q being himself, posting quality numbers like he typically does and using that as even more evidence of his 'ace' quality value heading into the non-waiver trade deadline. Nobody could have saw this coming, especially after his stellar WBC performance. Perhaps the trade rumors are getting to him a little bit? Perhaps it is the 1-2mph velocity decrease or his curve ball being way too high in the zone? Whatever the case maybe, if Hahn had a hard time dealing Q for respectable and fair return during the offseason, how the heck will he get that requested value at the trade deadline this year? Especially when more and more teams start falling out of races, making their own starting pitchers available for contenders. Unless Q can quickly fix his issues and rattle off 3-4 quality starts in a row, it looks like he will remain a White Sox for the rest of the 2017 season. Good news is that rebuilds take time and he still is under contractual control for another 3.5 seasons.
  16. QUOTE (daggins @ Mar 26, 2017 -> 08:19 AM) https://nypost.com/2017/03/25/yankees-futur...a-new-rotation/ You know what would help with that, yanks? In my mind I keep circling back to the Yankees as the most logical suitors for Q. They're not rebuilding (Braves), they don't have to horde prospects to keep payroll low (Pirates) and they don't have a strong rotation locked up long term (Astros, Dodgers). So now it's just a matter of waiting for them to hit the right point in the "win curve" where a Q acquisition is necessary and not just totally logical. The Yankees and Dodgers make the most sense to me as well. The Yankees have the most position player depth. Their plan is to essentially go for it all in 2018. Since Q is signed through 2020 it makes a lot of sense. I personally think the Yankees are good enough to be in that AL wildcard chase this year. And if that is indeed the case- i can most definitely see Cashman call Hahn to work out a Q deal this June or July. Unfortunately, I just cannot see Cashman trading Gleybor Torres. Unless its for Q straight up?? Hmmm... The Dodgers can definitley benefit from inserting Q into their rotation. Would a Bellinger and Urias deal be asking for too much?
  17. QUOTE (iamshack @ Mar 25, 2017 -> 06:34 PM) These posts are frustrating coming from you, because I think you know better. I'm shocked that some fans wanted the team to NOT rebuild. This was long over due. My only issue was letting Hahn and KW be in charge of it since they were the ones who essentially put the organization in this situation... It is what it is, Hahn finally got his wish-- let's see if he can work his magic with this potential Quintana deal.
  18. http://www.espn.com/mlb/story/_/id/1898047...lito-worth-hype The White Sox seemed to be the obvious winner in the Adam Eaton deal during the winter meetings. Now it seems like many top scouts and MLB writers are questioning the ability of Lucas Giolito. Between this article and the Rodon news, it has not been a good morning for me as a White Sox fan.
  19. My guess is that JR will sell after the 2018 season as noted before. The new ownership group will be Chicago based and the team will stay here. Hopefully by then-- the new young core of players will be hitting their developmental stride, White Sox will have selected Seth Beer in the 2018 draft and the new TV deal allows the new owners to open up their wallets to fill in roster gaps-- Manny Machado for instance.... If I were I were only a billionaire...
  20. QUOTE (SouthSideSale @ Feb 21, 2017 -> 12:12 PM) If that really happened and our young core took off, then I would be alright with it. Quintana, Rodon, Fulmer, Giolito, Lopez, Kopech, Hansen. LOADED. What young core? Sure they are pretty deep with pitching. I still see a really thin system positionally. No? Basabe is nowhere near ready. Other than Collins and possibly Moncada coming up what young core are we speaking of?
  21. It sounds like Hahn isn't budging but definitely intends on dealing Q and Frazier to the top bidders with this quote. I was reading a lot of that 'de-LaRoche only and not rebuilding' crap which was starting to make me worried.
  22. QUOTE (ChiSoxFanMike @ Jan 16, 2017 -> 12:16 PM) Astros are a joke. I'm starting to think that as well. Go for it, overpay for a guy who is coming off a scary injury. I'm sorry Houston, but you can't bargain shop your way into contention. As White Sox fans, we all know just how 'awesome' that works out.
  23. QUOTE (BlackSox13 @ Jan 16, 2017 -> 12:22 PM) I know what you mean and please let me explain. I've noticed when Levine writes about rumors those rumors have just been reported by another writer but that's not the case here. Levine is confirming teams have upped their offers, like we heard last week from Rumbunter but the two rumors are unrelated in that Levine got his info from his source and Rumbunter got their info from their source. Two unrelated sources confirming the same thing within a week of one another. Believe it or not, I'm trying to give Levine some credit which is unusual for me. I think you are just bored and hopeful like the rest of us White Sox fans. It's been awhile since that Eaton blockbuster.
  24. QUOTE (BlackSox13 @ Jan 11, 2017 -> 10:32 AM) Let em keep talking, they don't have Q yet. Sad they aren't smart enough to realise that by keeping their precious Bell and Meadows off the table, they are making it easier for Houston and Atlanta to make offers that can beat Pitt's offer. Was hoping for a trade with Houston anyway and this just makes me desire that even more. So they have a desirable prospect who will hopefully one day be a special player in the big show. We get it. The White Sox have a desirable all-star starting pitcher who is 27 years old, durable and post #s better than guys making $30 million a season. If you want something special, you need to give something special. It's that simple.
