  1. The Sox are in a unique position because they can trade some veterans for prospects, bring up other prospects and still have a chance to win this division. 1) Sell high! Now is the time to get a nice package for Quentin. Bring up Viciedo and hopefully he can do damage up here. 2) We can likely get a couple of nice prospects for Edwin Jackson. 3) Dunn and Rios. Yeah they are not going anywhere. Any production from these 2 knuckleheads will be a bonus at this point.
  2. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jul 20, 2011 -> 08:46 AM) That deal was put in place by Ron Schueler. Nope. Kenny Williams made that deal on December 13, 2001 as he dealt Kip Wells, Josh Fogg and Sean Lowe for Todd Ritchie and Lee Evans.
  3. QUOTE (South Side Fireworks Man @ Jul 13, 2011 -> 10:24 PM) He was great with the Sox at every position he played. They haven't had a better fielding SS, 2b, or 3b since he's been gone. Wish he were still here. And he was a good hitter too, except when he listened to Walker. Hey now. The dodgers are 11 games back. I can see them trying to move Uribe before the deadline You have to give Uribe credit. He isn't the best player in the world, but when it counts, he sure comes through! He now has 2 rings to show for it.
  4. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jul 13, 2011 -> 02:40 PM) You may not remember, but the person on this site who was the strongest advocate of trading Rios at the end of May last year was me. I shut up mid-June because I realized we weren't going to be selling anyone, but it's not the first time I've written this. You were definitley right. Rios has proven to me to be one of the laziest players i have every seen in a white sox uniform. I would love to dump him some how. But we would likely have to eat half the salary.
  5. What happened to that White Sox payroll spreadsheet?
  6. Well you have to look at the farm and figure out what you can bring up and who can actually be moved. Secondly, you have to figure out what you want your future rotation to look at. The Humber arrival has been amazing. It gives us flexibility to trade one of our starting pitchers, and it will likely be Jackson. Next year i would keep Humber, Floyd, Danks and obviously we also have Peavy. If KW can swing that Quentin deal for one of Atlanta's starting pitchers, that would be ideal. I think Buerhle will finish his career in St. Louis. If Quentin is dealt, we have room in the OF for Viciedo in RF. For next year that leaves LF open since Pierre is off the books. I would eventually move Viciedo to LF for 2012 and sign a RF via free agency.
  7. This team is sooo frusterating. We have pleanty of pitching. But our offense has underachieved for over 3 months. When will someone be held accountable for Adam Dunn's and Alex Rios' horrible seasons? Obviously Greg Walker will never be fired, its obvious that Guillen is losing his passion for managing this team. Whatever happened to putting the best players out there on a given night? When Ozzie first started, he would never tolerate this crap. Now its almost as if he "has" to let Dunn and Rios play because of their contracts. Guys like Lillibridge and Viciedo would give us a much better chance to win over Rios and Dunn and yet- he isn't pulling the trigger on that move. The AL central has also dominated us for the past year and a half. When you are trying to win a division, you NEED to play over .500 vs your division rivals. We are freakin 7-14 vs the central this year. Last year we were 32-40. That is garbage. We are not going to win this division or let alone come close to making the playoffs being dominated by our own weak division like we are. What do i want to happen? Make some moves! Bench guys! Bring up Viciedo. Let Lillybridge spend more time our in CF. Make some trades, starting thinking about the future. Obviously we are stuck with guys like Dunn and Rios. But we can definitley get some value back for guys like Edwin Jackson and Carlos Quentin.
  8. I think this deal will get done soon. This would be a brilliant move by KW. It would give us pleanty of flexibility to make other moves and it gives us a pretty damn good young arm to plug in our rotation for many years. It would also allow us to FINALLY bring up Viciedo! It seems like the "Tank" has done a lot of work hitting the off speed stuff down in the farm.
  9. I've gone to at least 1 cross town game each year at the cell since interleague started. Last night when i was there, i noticed a much smaller amount of cub fans. Anyone else notice this? I also had a lot of fun last night. It was a very good baseball game, great atmosphere and many positives came out of this series. I know many fans hate this series, but i love it! This series usually gives us that nice kick in the ass that we need every year. Now lets get rolling here.
  10. I like Santos as our closer. He has 3 really good pitches and knows how to switch up velocity when needed. Santos may have hit a bump or two this past week- but he has no fear and I believe he can be a really effective closer for this team the rest of the year.
  11. we suck! in fact for the first time ever- i truly believe they won't get back in this thing. Yea the offense may wake up- but we still dont have a closer, the defense in the outfield is a mess (except cf) and we have a manager that doesn't seem to know how to manage a team anymore. damn it! And its only May 1st!
  12. When you are up 2 in the 8th- you need to shut down the opposition. This game shouldn't of even sniffed extras. This is a terrible loss overall and hopefully it doesn't carry over into tomorrow's ballgame.
  13. I'm predicting an offensive outburst and sox sweep!
  14. Wow. Thats a cool story. I actually have one of those uniforms and i occassionally where it to the ballpark. My favorite are the ones of today. Did you all know that we've had these same uniforms for the past 22 years? Crazy to think about. But i think its important to keep a look going. I love the fact that they brought back the basic logo from 1949-1975.
  15. Where is Freddy Garcia when you need him?!? I still like our chances without him. However, now we are in a position where we will likely be scrambling to find that 5th starter until June or so. Ahhh the infamous black hole at the 5th starter spot. Remember those days from 2001-2004?
  16. Pierre has taken Milledge under his wing. Pierre is a great club house presence and does a great job for players that at one time were 'lost' or looking to find there way on a new team. I have a feeling Rios success in 2010 had a lot to do with Pierre. He keeps guys loose and comfortable.
  17. Bobby isn't the same pitcher. We just couldn't rely on him anymore. The organization made the right choice to move on. Thorton has truly earned the right to be our every day closer. How come when a player leaves after having success here, they feel the need to rip management? Maggs, Frank and now Bobby. I look at guys like Rowand, Thome and Ventura and realize how classy they were after they left. It makes me appreciate the quality of a person as a player a lot more.
  18. I remember in '05, most 'experts' had the Sox finishing 3rd or 4th in the division going into ST. I remember Ryan Sandberg (Yahoo sports writer at the time) being the only guy to pick the Sox to make the playoffs that year. I could care less what the major networks say about the White Sox. One thing i know is- this team is the best on paper since the 2006 team.
  19. QUOTE (Jordan4life @ Feb 16, 2011 -> 07:57 PM) To be fair, outside of May, Rios was pretty ordinary. I expect more from him considering his skill-set. He is definitley capable of doing better. But my main goal for him in 2011 is to get on base for PK and AD!
  20. Due to the fact that Peavy is only at 60-70%- who knows how long it will take before he gets the okay to pitch from the doctors and staff. Im predicting Peavy will be back around early-to-mid June. He'll need to make about 2-3 starts down in Charlotte before the call up as well. With that being said, we need to sign a veteran free agent to a minor league deal and hope it works out. We just dont have the depth down in the farm to plug in a guy. And Ozzie himself said he wants Sale in the pen in 2011. A four man rotation may sound okay at first- but it can end up costing us later on as the relievers need to stay fresh. Here is a guy we should seriously consider: * Jeremy Bonderman- I know he isn't the 2006-07 Bonderman anymore- but as a 5th starter and some spring training tweaking- we may catch lightning in a bottle here. I liked the way he was throwing the ball late in the year as well.
  21. The question is too vague. So I decided to break it down into categories. * John Danks- Best Starting Pitcher. He is the most consistent SP on the staff and eats up a lot of innings. He is extremely valuable to the rotation. * Alex Rios- Best all-around player. When it comes to tools, Alex has it all. He can hit for power, steel bases and cover a lot of ground out in CF. Its extremely refeshing to not have to worry about who will fill that CF void. * Paul Konerko- Best Slugger. This guy can work the counts and can be a major run producer. He is the KING of the Southside and im very happy they brought him back. * Alexei Ramirez- Best Defender. This guy is fun to watch. Watching him getting better and better with the glove each year has been a sight to see. I'm predicting GOLD GLOVE in 2011 * Matt Thorton- Best Reliever. This guy has been our most consistent reliever for the past 5 seasons! He comes in and gets the job done. We may even see him in some closing situations in 2011. * Gordon Beckham & Chris Sale- Most Promising. If these guys can live up to their potential in 2011. I think we can do a lot of damage in the central. * Adam Dunn- Best Addition. We lacked left handed power last year and a true DH. KW filled that hole with the signing of Adam Dunn. His career .381 OPB and 100+ RBIs is going to give our offense a major booster. * Carlos Quentin- Sleeping Giant. I know he has dissappointed us the past few seasons. However, now the pressure is off of him to be that main run producer, i think he will have a respectable season and play average defense. If we 75% of his production from 2008- that would be a HUGE lifter for this club. * Ramon Castro- Under rated. He is one of my favorites on the team. He comes in to spell AJ- can give you a big hit when you need and calls a great game! Gotta give some love to my boy Ramon!! I know these are just opinions- but it was fun to break it down like this. By doing so- it got me pretty excited for baseball and the start of 2011. The White Sox Are ALL IN and I cant wait!
  22. QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Jan 31, 2011 -> 08:53 PM) Wants that 2nd World Series ring. Then he should have re-signed with the team he won his first one with
  23. QUOTE (joeynach @ Jan 31, 2011 -> 06:59 PM) Great to see the White Sox reward him for his tremendous efforts and pay him accordingly after he was making about $1.1M for the last 3 years. Send a great message to the White Sox young core of players. I agree! I hope Beckham ERUPTS this year!
  24. Great sign Its going to be fun watching the Ramirez-Beckham double-play connection over the next 4+ years!
  25. For those of you Freddy haters out there. Remember when the rest of the staff was sucking early on? Freddy went 4-1 in May and helped carry the team through June until they all got hot. Freddy was 4-0 in June as well. He did more than anyone expected and would be a great insurance policy for this ballclup! SIGN ME UP!
