Reports: Illini hire John Groce
GoodAsGould replied to Jenksismyhero's topic in Alex’s Olde Tyme Sports Pub
QUOTE (IlliniKrush @ Mar 27, 2012 -> 12:29 AM) As opposed to all the other amazing options out there right now? It's responses like this that give Illini fans they rep they have, and puts any coach behind the 8 ball to begin with. None of us know how it will turn out. Cherry picking a stat doesn't prove it one way or another. Have to admit I was really on the Shaka Smart bandwagon, didn't really expect Brad Stevens and not sure if he really wouldn't just be Weber 2.0, Losing on Smart hurts, but yeah after him I don't know enough of the potential candidates to be overly judgemental, I just hope the next coach knows how to run an offense that isn't pass around the 3 point line and shoot last second possible. -
QUOTE (pittshoganerkoff @ Mar 26, 2012 -> 11:34 AM) Yeah, a happy Don is a boring Don. But I can sense some foreshadowing that the marriage won't last long, and afterwards he'll be a much more interesting character...again. I don't know, I like his current wife she is hot and interesting... I want it to last.

Yeah, honestly Brad Stevens to me seemed like Weber 2.0 and once Shaka Smart said no there weren't that many guys I personally was interested in. This guy coached an Ohio team to a few victories this past tournament and seemingly a good recruiter so could be something. -
QUOTE (lostfan @ Mar 25, 2012 -> 09:48 PM) ding ding ding except no matter how I look, I'm about as threatening as Carlton Banks I could only believe that if you danced like him too.

Does the Hunger Games play to the 99% or Tea Party?

QUOTE (mr_genius @ Mar 25, 2012 -> 10:40 AM) i would put them as corrupt Obama Democrats. Wealthy, 'entitled', authoritarian, corrupt. Is this post serious? -
I really miss Season 1 of community, the characters are all annoying and over the top now especially Jeff and Britta.... they were great 1st season now....

When watching I felt that to enjoy The Hunger Games you really need to have read the book first, but apparently all my friends with me liked the movie and none of them read it so.... guess I know nothing. I think since the movie stayed so true to the book it wasn't as smooth as Harry Potter movies or I imagine Twilight is but I rather it stay true to the book as best as possible.

QUOTE (LVSoxFan @ Mar 23, 2012 -> 11:16 AM) This is bad. Jenks has been tarnished among Sox fans for years now, but he was a World Series hero. Hopefully he gets back on the wagon. The guy had 2 good pitches but really seemingly is white trash... and would probably be moreso if he didn't have his talents that made teams invest into getting him help. It just boggles my mind that these guys get so much and still result in being such big losers.

I just noticed there is a chance Boston doesn't make the playoffs, that would be amazing. -

QUOTE (PlaySumFnJurny @ Mar 21, 2012 -> 02:22 PM) Oh, I see you went back and read it. Excellent. You made a huge point of emphasizing "simply because of his race" after you cherry picked it right out from between "rich" and ""North Shore." It isn't really cherry picking, it's pretty much what you said. -

QUOTE (Jenksismyb**** @ Mar 21, 2012 -> 01:39 PM) You can't deny he's struck out big time on two big guys though. It might work out in the end, but his tenure isn't exactly starting off with a bang. He didn't get his main targets but not sure how that's all on him, its not like he has a magic wand and command them to accept the job. -

QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ Mar 21, 2012 -> 01:30 PM) Whoever it ends up being, it will be the 2nd/3rd/4th/X choice, Illini fans will not be happy, and he will start the season behind the 8-ball. Between this and Beckman, Thomas is really not having a great first run at being the Illini AD Wow that's way too early to say considering Beckman hasn't coached a game yet and we don't know who the basketball coach is, if anything fans like you are the problem -
QUOTE (daa84 @ Mar 20, 2012 -> 04:48 PM) i obviously love the marshall deal, but the bears have done almost nothing in FA (backup Qb and ST) to improve over last year - i sure hope emery drafts well, cuz we still need OL, DL and DB....and maybe TE too I'm guessing once Mincey got resigned by the Jags they decided to just keep the signings small and resign as many as our own players as possible. I'd imagine we draft a DE in the first round now and maybe try signing one more FA or resign Okoye. I'm guessing Bears draft goes with DE in the first and another defensive player in the 2nd with WR someone like AJ Jenkins in the 3rd.

QUOTE (IlliniKrush @ Mar 20, 2012 -> 02:00 PM) And rumor has it (on B&B, who usually have great sources when it concerns U of I athletics) Smith (Simeon) is being tabbed for an assistant position. Could be trying to let Smart know (or someone else) that if he's worried about recruiting Chicago, he won't have to be. Obviously all just rumor right now, however if you somehow combined Smart and Smith as his recruiter, this whole thing turns around really, really, really fast. Interesting twist to follow nonetheless. If Illinois somehow got Smith to come on as an assistant and were able to keep Howard as well as hire Smart.... I'm thinking you have a staff inline to bring them back to top10 rankings. -
QUOTE (Soxbadger @ Mar 19, 2012 -> 06:04 PM) With regard to Awake, I like the idea, but Im not sure I can keep believing the "Im not sure what reality is real." To me it seems like the wife is real and the son is fake. Why? His son just happens to get kidnapped around the time of the anniversary of his death (loss of his son) and it just happens to center around something that happened in the past that the main character may have felt guilty about. I dont know, its just somewhat unfeasible that nothing would happen in either dream that would be a suspension of reality. Or at least have something happen in both worlds to suggest its not real. Otherwise we are going down another alternative reality show, which will really be annoying because the show is going to such great lengths to say thats not what is happening. If his son's reality is fake why would he learn from that reality that an inmate that he put away long ago was innocent... It's all really weird.

QUOTE (Swingandalongonetoleft @ Mar 17, 2012 -> 04:02 PM) The MADD of nature, PETA, objects to the aquariums at the Marlin's Spongebob stadium. I wish PETA wasn't so extreme, because of it too many people don't take anything what they say serious anymore.

QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ Mar 16, 2012 -> 09:39 PM) WB Rock...and go big 10. It's funny how fans of each team hate one another during the season but once tourney time or bowl season comes its all go Big Ten or whichever conference. -
QUOTE (SOXOBAMA @ Mar 16, 2012 -> 02:27 PM) Denver with Manning will win about 11 games. 49ers with Manning will win the championship Well your clearly biased, Denver with Manning is just as much a contender, they beat teams without an offense last season imagine how good that defense can be with an actual offense on the other side making the other team one dimensional.

QUOTE (SoxFan1 @ Mar 16, 2012 -> 12:06 PM) A few targets I'd like to see the Bears pursue: OJ Atogwe, Kamerion Wimbley (if/when he gets cut), Matt Birk, John Abraham, Marcus McNeill There are also quite a few nice RB available. Michael Bush has come in for a visit, but other available names include Joseph Addai, Mike Tolbert, Brandon Jacobs, Ladainian Tomlinson, Derrick Ward... I think Atogwe/Birk are past their best days not really interested in either. I'm hoping the Bears push hard for Wimbley and if that doesn't happen wouldn't mind Abraham as a specialized pass rusher with Izzy in on run plays. I'm also hoping the Bears bring back Okoye.

QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ Mar 15, 2012 -> 04:53 PM) That's why I said if what I'm reading is true. Clearly there is a long line of history. Maybe his wife is a horribly abusive person and he just gets caught in the middle and has never laid a hand on her. And he just accepts the abuse. Not too mention you cant judge Marshall as you would a normal person, the guy has some serious mental issues that haven't been taken care of properly.

QUOTE (Soxbadger @ Mar 14, 2012 -> 11:36 PM) Wade was unstoppable in the 4th quarter. Lebron would have been foolish to try and demand to take the ball over. That is not good basketball, that is stupid hero ball. Im never going to get down on a player who lets the hot hand shoot and unselfishly makes a better basketball decision. If you walk away from that game hating on Lebron or Wade, you just dont like them. Right, with how Dwade was taking over the game for them why would Lebron call for the ball. I can understand Lebron has reputation for failing to show up in the 4th quarter but it's kind of funny how people find any reason to call the guy out. If you want to call someone out on the Heat look at Chris Bosh this game. -

QUOTE (SoxFan1 @ Mar 13, 2012 -> 10:32 PM) 7th in NFL last season in QB pressures. Right I can read his stats but I have never seen him play and don't know if he is that good or a fluke or anything besides what I see on paper.

QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ Mar 13, 2012 -> 10:14 PM) Bears still in on Williams, who is leaving Buffalo having not signed a deal. http://www.suntimes.com/sports/football/be...bell-signs.html Honestly, I don't know much about Mincey but if he is a good DE I'd be fine signing him over Mario and with the money saved also bringing in someone like Atogwe or a OLB to help the team in multiple areas.
