QUOTE (Steve9347 @ Jan 31, 2012 -> 12:18 PM) I never said that. I never used the word 'idiot'. That word, however, could definitely be reserved for someone who says Wes Welker isn't much better than Earl Bennett. You implied it with the clip and my point is Welker on any other team wouldn't put up nearly as good stats and his 3rd and 4th season in the NFL before the Patriots showed that. Hell Branch went from Superbowl MVP to useless on the Seahawks and Moss went from useless to 26 TD's or whatever the number back to being useless once off the Pats. Tom Brady makes players vastly better than they would on vast majority of other teams, Moss obviously was a superior talent at one point and part of it with him was motivation. The same happened to WR's from the Colts, Brandon Stokley went from a garbage WR to a 1000 yard WR with 10 TD's.... -

QUOTE (Steve9347 @ Jan 31, 2012 -> 12:03 PM) Yeah because everyone that disagrees with your opinion is an idiot, your avatar is a reminder of that. -
QUOTE (Greg Hibbard @ Jan 31, 2012 -> 11:41 AM) Jesus. Do you get that I'm actually taking into account the whole picture? People keep nit-picking one aspect of this and then throwing out other names. Name another player that: 1) spent 8 years with the White Sox, including 2005 2) had the impact AJ did on a pivotal playoff game 3) put up similar overall statistics, given his position (this is where he differs greatly from Crede) Does ANYONE else fit that bill? If anyone else deserves a statue from this era, it's AJ. Whether or not you think he deserves that is entirely subjective. I happen to think he does. If AJ gets a statue it diminishes every other person that has gotten that honor as a White Sox and that's as far as I'll go on that subject. I'd be perfectly ok with Konerko/Buehrle getting statues too.

QUOTE (Steve9347 @ Jan 31, 2012 -> 11:25 AM) So you just limit registration? In many of these areas there are more interested in playing than can conceivably be deployed on a team. Well in my town there was a limited registration, pretty much if you didn't get in at a very young age it was hard to get in, it's tough luck for some kids but can only do so much. If a kid is truly talented at the sport obviously he can catch on a travel team somewhere.

QUOTE (Tex @ Jan 31, 2012 -> 10:16 AM) My first reaction is every sports program up to high school schould be about skill development, sportsmanship, and learning how to be a team mate. Keep score if you like, but winning and losing should not be the goal until high school. Fortunately my school district shares this philosophy. I don't think kids should be cut from sports teams, at least not until jr high but I hate the idea of completely disregarding winning/losing. I was a kid not too long ago and I wanted to win and hated losing and the sport would be very dull if those werent important factors. I was only in the town public leagues but end of year we still had a playoffs and whatnot once we got probably in 4th or 5th grade.

QUOTE (Greg Hibbard @ Jan 31, 2012 -> 10:27 AM) Well, AJ arguably singlehandedly decided the pivotal game in the 2005 ALCS with hustle, for one thing. I also think his statistics with the white sox are considerably better than Crede, Uribe and Garland, especially considering how he handles a staff/calls a game, which is why I think he deserves a statue over them. Was 2008 a failure? Huh. I guess every season except 2005 is a failure, then. Let's take all the rest of the statues down. His calling a game is greatly overrated, I think people hear Hawk say it enough times and it sticks. He hasn't been better than any of those 3 players listed and Crede had that big HR late in the season to insure we didn't collapse in the end of the season and AJ got on 1B by an umpire error not too mention the Angels were on their 3rd or 4th bp arm while we still had Buehrle going in that game I was pretty confident. But if we are going to give everyone who contributed in the postseason lets go ahead and give Podsenick, Blum, and Dye statues too.

QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ Jan 31, 2012 -> 10:46 AM) Wes Welker is no better than Earl Bennett??? Interesting... Look at him before NE, he might be better than Bennett but the gap isn't that much of a difference. Brady makes players around him better similar to Brees/Manning. -

QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jan 31, 2012 -> 08:32 AM) Drafting those TE's and keeping a solid O-Line in front of Brady despite some turnover has been 2 clearly important steps. I don't think either TE is specifically that great though, I think a lot of it has to do with Brady just working with whats given it to him. Whether its an old man Moss just running straight down the field or a Welker who really isn't anything that much better than Bennett. -

QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ Jan 31, 2012 -> 08:29 AM) They have been drafting so well that their secondary consists of a WR and a guy who couldn't make the Raiders practice squad this year. Their recent talent evaluation has been awful on defense. Somehow, Brady & Belichick still make it work. I think this season it has been mostly Brady. -
QUOTE (Greg Hibbard @ Jan 30, 2012 -> 09:03 PM) You mean all those players who were with the Sox from 2005-2011? How many of those are there? Oh yeah: Konerko, Buehrle, AJ and Ozzie. Seems like AJ fits to me. The only year that mattered in that time was 2005 so I don't know why it matters that he stayed from 2006-2011 with multiple failed seasons. Should Joe Crede get a statue too since he was here from 2000-2008 and lets give statues to Jon Garland and Juan Uribe too since they spent a lot of time with Wsox too.

QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Jan 31, 2012 -> 04:17 AM) In Drew Magary's latest Jambaroo (other than this last one about killing bats and whatever other assorted's he has for the one during dead week) he brought up a point about how the reason that the Patriots' Way can work is because they have the best coach in the game and he can make it work. Thus far, he has been the only coach that has been able to do so, and the Patriots have had a ton of guys between college and the pros take over teams and have seen them fail pretty miserably. Now, I know that Drew Magary isn't exactly the most credible of sources for NFL football, but it's a generally good point. The Patriots have been good about finding guys that fit their system and can do what they need them to do. The Patriots have made guys like David Givens, Deion Branch, and Wes Welker look extremely good. Do you think those guys could do something similar elsewhere? I honestly think the only way I'd want the Bills to bring in someone from the Patriots would be if they could bring in Belichick. That simply won't happen. Honestly the Patriots way hasn't been very effective the past few seasons.... their defense is below avg. the only good player is a DT taken in the same draft as Tommie Harris and the offense rolls with Tom Brady who probably could dominate with any group of weapons similar to Manning/Brees. -
I would not be down with AJ getting a statue, if he got one than we might as well give them to everyone.

QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jan 30, 2012 -> 04:46 PM) If they have other suitors who could absorb that deal, it could give them a lot of leverage. Honestly though most teams cant offer the package the Bulls could though. The Nets have Brook Lopez and thats pretty much it, the Knicks have Chandler/Amare package which if I were the Magic wouldn't want at all, the Mavericks have nobody they could trade, and the Clippers only have Deandre Jordan. The Lakers refusal to include Pau pretty much makes the Bulls have the best package to offer. -
QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jan 30, 2012 -> 02:58 PM) Gotcha. Thanks for the translation, and the information, as always! It'd make more sense for Miggy to go to LF than Victor Martinez to try and play OF I'd imagine. Miggy I guess could go back to 3B too.

QUOTE (Quinarvy @ Jan 30, 2012 -> 02:09 PM) Yeah, but Dwight isn't even close to the level of the previous centers in any of those combos, but if I need another example. Tim Hardaway and Alonzo Mourning. Both we're better than any PG or C that Jordan/Pippen had and that's what we'd become, the 90's Heat Rose and Howard are better than Hardaway and Mourning. It would be more similar to a young pre-injury Penny Hardaway and young Shaq.... and who knows what those two would have been able to accomplish. -

QUOTE (daa84 @ Jan 30, 2012 -> 02:08 PM) trying to listen to the press conference via streaming 670, and all i can hear is those tools Boers and bernstien playing annoying, not funny sound bites over Emery talking I honestly don't know how anyone stands those two... they are obnoxious and only take the callers that are easy to poke fun at. They also never own up to things they are wrong about.... just a waste of airtime. -

QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jan 30, 2012 -> 02:05 PM) Then of course, that leaves the Bulls stuck holding onto Boozer's deal with no amnesty option. Yeah, but with Howard/Rose getting double teams I'd imagine Boozer is going to get a lot of open looks and being a solid 3rd scoring option I could live with him. -

QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ Jan 30, 2012 -> 01:23 PM) The only thing I wouldnt be all that pleased about is the more-than-likely inclusion of Hedo in the deal. but yeah, I agree with J4L. You do this deal immediately and twice on sundays Id imagine Hedo is amnestied the next season if he was a part of the trade. Honestly I think if it was available they'd do everything in their power to get Howard, minus trading Rose. -

Thats too bad, I was always a Cotts fan. He always seemed like a good guy and obviously was pretty amazing that season. -
The one in blue for some reason reminds me of Conan Obrien.

QUOTE (Marty34 @ Jan 29, 2012 -> 01:17 PM) I doubt many GM's can hire/fire the manager without approval of the owner. Guillen was the first to go, Chairman Reinsdorf has put Kenny on the clock. That doesn't make sense, KW offered to quit and JR wouldn't let him... but now he is on the clock.... -
I don't understand why it matters who he roots for, hell he could be pro French over America for all I care.... you choose who you like/root for and thats that... part of being an American is freedom of choice.

Now I really want to get into tennis but 3 things are going against me, 1. I suck at Tennis 2. I have nobody to play with 3. I hate winter I hate that the french/wimbledon are so far away.

QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jan 29, 2012 -> 12:13 PM) The Bears can't wait until the draft to fill some of those needs. They might be able to wait on CB, but they can't wait on WR. They also can't really wait on O-Line, at the very least they need a replacement for Omiyale in the veteran backup role. I actually would be ok with bringing back Tim Jennings as our second cornerback, in which case no hurry to grab one in F/A... maybe take one in draft if one worth gambling on falls to us. The OL actually isn't in that bad of a spot too, we have backups in Edwin Williams and Spencer at the OG and Louis can rotate to either tackle spot. The biggest question is LT and I don't know whats available in F/A for that position or if the Bears want to continue with Jamarcus Webb. I think WR is the number 1 position needed to be address before the draft and I wouldn't be against drafting a WR to go with one we sign in F/A. Add onto that I'd really hope they look into stealing Finley at TE from the Packers too.
