QUOTE (Brian @ Jan 23, 2012 -> 06:18 PM) How come I don't remember DiMaggios? I was an Italian Village guy as well. How long ago were you down there? Dimaggios used to be off of Wall street, I think on Park Street(the street past grand going south) and was in a kind of rundown building..... When they were located there everyone in college especially dorms would eat there. Now they are all fancied up family looking restaurant off of 13 for past couple years and haven't been since. I also never got the hype of either, I just ordered Papa Johns when I was down there.

QUOTE (Soxbadger @ Jan 23, 2012 -> 08:57 PM) So part of me is wants to get Knights of the Old Republic. I hate the thought of having to put time into a MMORPG but at the same time Ive always wanted to be a jedi. Anyone try it? Its like World of Warcraft in the future. So, if you liked WoW or EQ its your type of game.

QUOTE (greg775 @ Jan 24, 2012 -> 01:34 AM) I'm disliked because I back Ozzie big time and back some of the players who are (were) hated. Like Jenks, Jermaine, Wise, Pods, Juan Pierre, CQ, etc. And I don't like Kenny and blast Rios and Dunn a lot. I also praise Rongey and Hawk and Cowley and am disliked for that as well. I don't think any of those players were hated and almost everyone blasts Rios and Dunn given how bad they were last season.

Even though Djokovic lost a set to Hewitt, he definitely still looks his dominant self from last year. I haven't had a chance to watch Andy Murray, be interesting if he finally can get over that hump and challenge the top3 this season. Has to be tough being significantly better than everyone but have 3 guys who are some of the best who ever played the game ahead of you.

QUOTE (DrunkBomber @ Jan 23, 2012 -> 04:16 PM) You dont know more then anyone else yet you keep acting as if you do. How do you know what kind of a human being he is? You dont, youre only going off his public image. Ive said in just about EVERY SINGLE POST that I know there are people who are much more at fault the JP, but you just keep ignoring that because your argument is so weak that you have nothing else to say. This thread isnt about McQuery or Sandusky, obviously what they did is worse and in Sanduskys case much worse BUT THIS THREAD ISNT TALKING ABOUT THEM. Just because other peoples actions were worse doesnt make what JP did any better. One thing has nothing to do with the other right now. The fact that you said you think if Joe Paterno walked into a police station at Penn State that they would turn him away and not listen to what he had to say is honestly one of the most ridiculous things Ive heard in a very long time. I get that you want to blindly defend this guy, not sure why but whatever, but if you dont know any more about him then the next guy then maybe think twice before you try to discredit someone elses comments and implement your own. You constantly pick at things instead of an entire message and than on top of that you misinterpret to or exaggerate what I said. I never once hinted at knowing more than anyone else and I never said Joe Paterno is completely innocent in all this, but I'm done arguing with a brick wall.

I dont see Nadal not making the semifinals. Everyone talked about him having a down year when he made 3 finals and won one last year. The question will be what adjustments he made for djokivic.

QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ Jan 23, 2012 -> 08:12 AM) Like I said before the playoffs started, the Giants were my sleeper, they came into the playoffs hot and their defense was beasting(still is) I think most thought them and the Saints had the best chance to beat the Packers, I hate that I'm rooting for a New York team in the Superbowl. -
Well Hewitt is giving us a game, I'm glad because up to this point it seemed the top4 seeds were gliding through without the slightest bit of a challenge.

Anyone paying attention to the Australian Open? I'm hoping Nadal comes back with a force this year and since Serena is out rooting for Sharapova.

QUOTE (DrunkBomber @ Jan 22, 2012 -> 10:29 PM) This isnt something that happened yesterday. Hes known about it for years and was still the head coach of huge college football program so give the "Hes old and confused" excuse a rest. Its amazing, youre being so critical of what other people are saying because we dont have all the facts, but neither do you and youre using ridiculous reasons to try to validate what youre saying. Do you have any proof that he didnt know exactly what was going on and was trying to cover it up? No, of course not. But do you have any proof that he was so senile he couldnt comprehend what he had been told? Nope, you certainly do not. So if youre going to try and discredit anything someone else says because we dont know all the details, then take your own advice. Also, for the 100th time, nobody is saying what JP did was WORSE then what McQuery or Sandusky did, but that doesnt make it ok or not bad in its own right. I never once said he is 100% innocent in the scandal, just stating that he isn't as horrible a human being as many seem to think and the fact that we don't know all the details so who could say what was really related to him. We do know that there was a firsthand witness who decided not to report the case to the police and the police knew something was wrong with Sandusky and failed to act in the past. There is a long list of people who are more at fault than Paterno and people act like he was some sort of demigod and had the state at his every command.

QUOTE (StrangeSox @ Jan 22, 2012 -> 09:04 PM) Most people in their 70's, especially in the 2000's with the catholic abuse problems, can comprehend what "man raping a boy" means. Hell, the same would be true of most people who are 85. He wasn't senile. Everytime I heard him talk he sounded like an idiot in recent history, so who knows how all there he was and who knows exactly what Mcqueary told him.
-
QUOTE (StrangeSox @ Jan 22, 2012 -> 08:39 PM) We know Paterno recently claimed to not even comprehend what McQuery meant when he described the male rape, which strains all credibility. We also know the guy was 85 when making the statement and clearly not all there anymore, again we don't know all the details so while its sick the 2 people that I have enough information to think poorly of are Sandusky and the guy who witnessed it and failed to call police. Paterno obviously could have done more but without being in his shoes and knowing everything its hard to put as much blame as some of you have been on him.
-
QUOTE (DrunkBomber @ Jan 22, 2012 -> 07:23 PM) Are you saying that if Joe Paterno went to the police at Penn State University and had information about a child being raped on campus that the police would turn him away and wouldnt investigate because he was "relaying" the information from someone else? Unless Mcquery(sp?) was willing to talk to police there was nothing to be done, we don't know if he was or not. There is a lot about the situation we won't ever know.
-
QUOTE (G&T @ Jan 22, 2012 -> 07:21 PM) Actually you are blaming the victims. And no, those families don't have meaningful access to justice when they are up against that kind of power. And Paterno had more power there than anyone, which you completely ignore. Im not blaming the victims all I said is over the years one of them had to report the incident to parents or whoever who would have reported it to the police. My statement was all about the police knew something was up about Sandusky a long time ago.
-
QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Jan 22, 2012 -> 07:18 PM) BS. Joe Paterno goes to the police in Happy Valley, tells them his assistant coach, a former PSU QB saw Sandusky in a shower with a kid, tells them Sandusky who was the heir apparent "retired" in 1999 after some other kiddie incidents, and this goes nowhere? And even if it didn't go anywhere, should that excuse Paterno from not at least doing all he could do, even if it means a huge blackeye for his beloved PSU to protect innocent kids? I never said he should be excused of everything, obviously even if the authorities/university didn't go public about it all Joe Pa himself could of went to reporters and whatnot.
-
QUOTE (DrunkBomber @ Jan 22, 2012 -> 07:11 PM) Ya I know, I was just mocking that abortion of a comment. Police arent going to turn anyone away who has information about child rape, let alone Joe Paterno. Having 2nd hand information unless you are relaying the information from a child is near the same as having no information in something like this.
-
QUOTE (DrunkBomber @ Jan 22, 2012 -> 07:06 PM) Going back to this. Since protocall was to tell your superior according to Penn State, what good would it have done if whoever JP told went to the police because you know, theyd just ask whoever it was if they witnessed it and hed say no he heard it from an employee who heard it from another employee and well that does no good. Well the people above JP are obligated to do an investigation of their own on the matter I'd imagine which would have probably got things out in the open once everything was heard. As for kids being in rough situations, I can understand that but everyone in this country has access to the justice system barring being held captive in a house with no phone. I'm not blaming the victims at all, just saying Paterno wasn't in a real good position here and you even said yourself the authorities knew about the situation and the people above Sandusky in the university knew about it....Not clearing him from all blame just saying he doesn't deserve all the hate people have towards him either.
-
QUOTE (G&T @ Jan 22, 2012 -> 06:13 PM) Both of them did the legal minimum. You are either outraged at both or neither. Not really since Paterno had nothing, if he reported it they'd just ask if he witnessed the crime and if he said no he heard about it from a friend well that does no good. I'm also sure one of these kids had to tell their parents at some point who reported it to the cops so they knew something was going on.
-
The guy only had second hand information, could he had done more yes but he reported it to the people in charge and went on. If he was the guy who witnessed it I would feel a lot different about the situation, now if it was that prick who witnessed the crime and died I'd have no sympathy.
-
Yeah I don't get it, Papa Johns isn't anything amazing but they are better than majority of the other chains.

QUOTE (Quinarvy @ Jan 21, 2012 -> 04:43 AM) I believe Greg is a Sox fan. I think currently he's an Ozzie fan first, easily. But he's a Sox fan. It's kind of funny even Ozzie likes JR but yet Greg constantly is bashing ownership and calling KW the winner. Having the type of season we had last year and being forced to trade players for payroll reasons is hardly winning, also offering to resign from your job is hardly winning..... It's at the point a person becomes so irrational that you know they can't be serious, hell why would someone post on a message board when 95% of the members considers you an idiot/troll.
-
We should make a poll asking if people believe Greg is a Wsox fan, guarantee only 1 person says he is haha.

QUOTE (He_Gawn @ Jan 20, 2012 -> 11:30 PM) But please, keep throwing those records of Crean and Weber out. Heck, Crean even split with Weber last year. Stats are like a god damn chick in a bikini. They show a lot, but not the whole damn picture. Homer alert, does Crean pay you to post on message boards? -
SOXOBAMA's opinion: Payton > Jordan
GoodAsGould replied to SOXOBAMA's topic in Alex’s Olde Tyme Sports Pub
Im surprised people have Barry Sanders above Payton. In terms of making highlights Sanders was number one but he also I think has the most negative rushes too in the history of the NFL or is up there at the very least. Walter Payton is the 2nd best RB of all time imo behind Jim Brown. Gale Sayers was more talented but his career was too short to put him on best ever list. But yes, being arguably the 2nd best RB in the NFL (some would have him a few spots lower) doesn't make you better than the best NBA player of all time, even if you put Wilt in front of Jordan that makes him 2nd best NBA player of all time while Payton is at best 2nd in just his position.
