Olympics: Vancouver 2010 OFFICIAL THREAD

QUOTE (kjshoe04 @ Mar 1, 2010 -> 04:33 PM) I'm confused as to who D-Mac is? Anyways, the only person on there that is as big a star as any of the top 5 in the NBA is Manning. Lebron, Kobe, Wade, Dwight, and Shaq are way bigger stars than anybody on that list other than Manning and possibly Brady or Favre. The NFL isn't really that good at marketing their Stars because nobody sees their faces when they play. Well just because you only know ISU players doesnt mean the rest of the world doesnt know them. Not sure if it was you or someone else who said you judge it by who girls know, well every girl is in love with Reggie Bush, looks wise, and every girl knows Tony Romo if for nothing else because of Carrie Underwood/Jessica Simpson. Plus Brian Urlacher is well known by girls for dating Paris Hilton among other things, just because you arent aware of big stars doesnt mean they arent well known. -
QUOTE (chisoxfan09 @ Mar 1, 2010 -> 03:32 PM) 2nd_city, this could well be but too many teams have given up on him to consider him a Coop reclamation project. He has good stuff when right but that has not been the case the last 2-3 years. To my knowledge he has only been on 2 teams, the Orioles and Nationals. I know the Orioles had a good pitching coach at one point but not so much for the Nats.

QUOTE (kjshoe04 @ Mar 1, 2010 -> 02:59 PM) Tell me who is that visible a star in the NFL? I've come up with Peyton Manning and really that is about it. Ochocinco does it himself. Easily recognizable are Peyton Manning, Ochocinco, Reggie Bush, Larry Fitzgerald, Michael Vick, Eli Manning, Brian Urlacher, Brett Favre, Troy Palamalu, TO, Tom Brady, In the near future Mark Sanchez, Ray Lewis, Tony Romo, D-Mac, and Warner. Id imagine Ray Lewis and D-Mac moreso only by the male crowd. -
QUOTE (CryptviLL @ Mar 1, 2010 -> 06:27 AM) Okay I have this problem: I am 20 years old, I play alot of basketball - Other day I met this girl playing basketball (she is only 16, but she was cool/pretty). First time meeting her for an hour, next 2 days we are talking like crazy, and she is kinda.... Advancing to say the least. We barely know each other and shes wanting to make out / kiss etc. For one do you think that age difference is to much? Kinda whack. For 2 what would you do? And for 3 is there something wrong with my head that im even remotely possible to liking some1 this young at my age?? Well if you find her attractive and like her personality its fine as long as your willing to put off sex for a couple of years. Its only a 4 year gap which really isnt all that much, would be like dating a freshmen if you were a senior.

QUOTE (Jordan4life @ Mar 1, 2010 -> 01:29 PM) Well yeah, not saying Longoria will be poor anytime soon. But relative to other top players in the game, he's going to be pretty underpaid for a while. He might be a top 10 player in baseball right now. There's nothing to suggest he won't get better and stay at an elite level through age 31 (outside of injury, which can't be forseen). Yeah at the time I dont blame him 1 bit for that contract, guaranteed himself 15 million no matter what happened in the future and he will still be young enough to get a good sized contract at the end of that deal as well.

QUOTE (Cali @ Feb 28, 2010 -> 07:45 PM) I doubt those were ALL White Sox fans... But lets say that they were, why didn't they come out in full force to get AJ and Pods as starters? What other fanbases would vote for Podsenick and Pieryznski?? If Beckham produces the first half he will be in serious running for the All Star spot at 2B, no question about it.

QUOTE (Cali @ Feb 28, 2010 -> 06:26 PM) The Sox have had plenty of players in the last decade putting up comparable numbers to the eventual All-Star starter, but in the end there were many hundreds of thousand of votes behind. Simple put there aren't as many White Sox fans in the country as we think. We split the city with a hype machine of a nationally covered "lovable" underdog franchise, when in fact, the White Sox are the TRUE under dogs of the city of Chicago. 24 hour sports coverage elevates Yankee/Red Sox/Cub players to national stardom because there are more fans of those teams. Frank Thomas was talented and lucky enough to not have a team on the North Side of town with it's hype machine in full force yet and no internet coverage of MLB Perfect example, Evan Longoria became a STAR last season. For the longest time I thought, there's no way a franchise barely a decade old has more fans than the White Sox to be able to put him in the ASG. It was just because he was in the World Series last season, people know of him that way, I thought. Obviously he was putting up RIDICULOUS numbers in the 1st half, so that helped, but the more I thought of it, the more I realized we just have a very small, very loyal, fan base. I just don't think it's enough to elevate Gordon no matter how good he is. I will be happy to eat crow this season, but it's just my opinion currently... Do you not remember in 2005 when White Sox fans voted in Pods?

QUOTE (T R U @ Feb 28, 2010 -> 04:45 PM) So basically you aren't allowed to be a fan of anything non US if you are an american? Got it. Find me a Canadian rooting for the US.... and I said in that post that you can be a fan of other teams just not against your own country. You are effectively rooting against yourself. -

QUOTE (T R U @ Feb 28, 2010 -> 04:38 PM) Im rooting for Canada, you can think what you will of that but just because you were born and raised in the USA it doesn't mean you are required to only like USA teams.. Its your country, really pathetic to root for Canada vs USA. If they were facing Russia or whoever else its fine but otherwise...... -
Id be happier with an off-season signing of Kampman, one of Rolle/Rhodes, I think can get TO/Holt both with min. contracts, and a solid OL rather than blowing a load on Peppers and only being able to afford one other player.

Unless he has a very miserable spring Id imagine Mitchell would start the season in high A and imo could spend the entire season there even if he is having success.

1717-1722 is pretty interesting.

How do you feel about the Designated Hitter?
GoodAsGould replied to NorthSideSox72's topic in The Diamond Club
I actually really like the current setup and hope for the foreseeable future nothing changes. I love the DH but I know a lot of pitchers like hitting and for the baseball purist out there its nice to still see the the game played like it was when our grandparents were watching as kids. -

Deng just needs to let the game come to him and he would be a great asset to this team, against the Wizards he kept trying to force the issue and it ended up horrible. Especially when the Bulls hopefully acquire a max f/a this off-season, Deng hopefully realizes that as the 3rd option he is going to get great looks and not jump into people under the basket. -

QUOTE (SoxFan1 @ Feb 22, 2010 -> 08:22 PM) First half was as well as they've played all season overall. 2nd half is just about as bad as they've played. I disagree, all their shots were dropping but even so the Bulls were playing incredibly sloppy. Deng has annoyed me a lot this game too just jumping into people on offense. -

Bulls have played possibly their worse game of the season so far, at least worse Ive seen. Even when they were winning they looked incredibly sloppy and now 2nd half its been terrible. I guess the bulls were due for a letdown. -
Looking at his numbers last season, Jones hit a good amount of doubles and HR's given his ab's and walked a decent amount too.... just the abysmal avg. Id hope given him being in better shape and playing on a more consistant basis he can up the avg. and he wont be that bad at all.

QUOTE (Brian @ Feb 22, 2010 -> 07:11 PM) Who on here posted that they thought Taj was the worst draft pick ever after only a week or so of play? I have a feeling I know but not accusing anyone. The guy knows what he is doing, doesn't try and do to much, knows his role and is very good at it. It Tyrus had Taj's brain, I wonder what could of been. He was a pick with a low ceiling but considering it was a late 1st rounder I dont know how anyone cant be happy with his production. I dont know how much Gibson will improve as a player but he already would be a solid 6th or 7th man on any team. -

I really wish James Johnson got some more minutes, for a guy his height he can handle the ball pretty well. -

QUOTE (SoxAce @ Feb 22, 2010 -> 03:32 PM) Bynum has also been hampered with injuries himself (though some of those were just freak injuries) so he's another guy who could have been better. Centers just have a much shorter time span in the NBA. Thats why guys like Shaq, Robinson, Ewing, Abdul-Jabbar, Chamberlain, Russell, Olajuwon, Duncan, etc.. are so great. Howard has a chance. Dude is build like a rock, but we'll see how long that body last 10-15 years from now. Bulls riding a 4 game winning streak against another winnable team in the Wizards tonight. What is more encouraging is that we are finally beating the teams were suppose to beat, and not playing down to the competition like we had been. Ive always been a Warrick fan and Id definitely be very open to the Bulls bringing him back for the future, not as a starter but really good bench player. I really hope if the Bulls do land a big time f/a its either Bosh or Wade, I think with Rose starting to emerge as a star will only help bring them in over a place like NY. -

QUOTE (IlliniKrush @ Feb 22, 2010 -> 01:58 PM) This wasn't Miracle on Ice 2. It also wasn't one of the best hockey games ever played (though it had some of the best talent ever). Some of the stuff I've seen and heard is way over the top. It's also not THAT big of an upset. It helped a ton because we get a bye and a 1 seed. But if we don't go on to medal, it means relatively nothing. Especially if Canada ends up winning it or medaling. It's all about what lies ahead now. Maybe this is the game that gives them the confidence to win the whole thing. We'll see how it shakes out. What a downer -
QUOTE (Chet Kincaid @ Feb 22, 2010 -> 12:45 PM) Looks like Khalil Green won't be reporting to Rangers camp. Social Anxiety disorder? What is that? Afraid of the attention, pretty much he must be a pretty shy person.

I think Blalock makes a lot of sense, he can still play some 3B/1B and is a left handed bat with pop. I dont think the sox make another move though, which is very sad.

Tisdale is so incredibly soft and I dont understand why he brings the ball down, he is the tallest guy on the court dont let the small guys get jump balls with you. -
Isnt it Blalock?
