Too be fair our last 2 basketball coaches have been hacks that have no business in running a team. Skiles was a good coach but it also is easy to understand a player having a confrontation with him. -

Well looks like Rod Marinelli will be the defensive coordinator for the Bears, pretty lame to promote a guy on a defense that was part of the problem last season but it is what it is. -

QUOTE (Rowand44 @ Feb 3, 2010 -> 10:49 PM) Ya, you guys pretty much wrapped up the league tonight so congrats on that. Just wait until we take you guys down at Arch Madness. Damn it, that's not even funny Does SIU have any chance to be good next season?? I know Dillard only a sophomore so he should be back and I thought I remember a player from Minny or Wisconsin transferring over that was pretty good but dont know much else. Just transferred to Siu this year and dont know much about the athletics, always rooted for the Illini before. -

QUOTE (southsideirish71 @ Feb 2, 2010 -> 12:50 AM) This offense is extremely difficult in the verbage it uses as well as the large amount of plays/motion/ and formation. Hester had a hell of a time getting the generic west coast offense down, and it was dumbed down for a while for him. This is a completely different beast. He is getting paid too much as a special teams/3rd receiver type. If he is that to you, then he will get you more value in a trade that he will provide returning kicks on your team. Daniel Manning and Johnny Knox did a pretty good job returning this year. TE's in Martz's system block, and thats about it. There is no masking as a TE, you block because you need to give Cutler as much time as the receivers run deep complicated routes. I would love a true number one WR. I just dont see where that comes from. Coaches adjust to the players they have, in a trade you arent going to get anything back worthwhile for Hester plus I thought a lot of his contract was incentive based on how he performs as a WR, obviously as a 3rd WR he wont really reach those. No point in debating it though, this is an important off-season for the Bears in terms of the f/a market so lets hope they have a good one. -

QUOTE (southsideirish71 @ Feb 1, 2010 -> 11:59 PM) I woudl turn Greg Olsen into a WR. He has the speed and the height to be a nice receiver. He can't block that well and hasn't transitioned that well to being a blocking TE. I think just allowing him to focus on running routes and catching the ball will turn him into something pretty good. Devin Hester must be traded. As great as his physical skills are, there is no way he is grasping this complex offense. He had a hard time picking up a generic offense. Ditch the painted dirt and get field turf in here. Whats the point of drafting all of these fast guys only to watch them slip and fall the minute a concert happens in late October. I think Hester would be fine as a 3rd WR, lets him focus mostly on special teams as well. Greg Olsen would be fine he can mask as a TE and option out into the slot often. The Bears do need to add one impact WR though, Aroshmadu(sp?) can be the 2nd guy but whether its TO, Marshall, or whoever we need a number 1 for the offense to work. -

QUOTE (bmags @ Feb 1, 2010 -> 06:37 PM) why would kreutz being gone be a bad thing? In my opinion part of the decline of Kreutz has more to do with the 2 guards we have been putting next to him, the OG's that have been starting for this team the past couple of seasons have been pathetic. -
QUOTE (Jenks Heat @ Feb 1, 2010 -> 05:08 PM) What does starting fourth in the rotation mean other than not pitching until the 4th game of the season? Ranking pitchers 1 through 5 in a rotation if you are not skipping starts which the Sox do not plan on doing means absolutly nothing. I think the idea is to reduce his innings some this season so Buehrle doesnt fade the 2nd half. I really dont care if Freddy Garcia is our opening day pitcher Im just ready to see some whitesox baseball!

Washburn is still a f/a right? He thrived in Seattle last season and at this point Id imagine could be had for a pretty cheap price, worth a sign for the Mariners imo.

QUOTE (knightni @ Feb 1, 2010 -> 04:41 PM) Mauer's going to be overpaid within 4 or 5 years - when he can't be a catcher anymore. When he is still winning batting titles and slugging 25ish homeruns I dont think he can be overpaid.

QUOTE (MurcieOne @ Feb 1, 2010 -> 04:36 PM) Martz has said repeatedly that he rated Cutler the highest of any QB coming out of college, but he said that while he was campaigning for the job back in December. Worse case, Jay is the 2nd most talented QB that Martz has ever had a chance to work with and I think on talent alone Cutler > Warner. As for the Bears "striking out" on all their other candidates, I honestly don't think after interviewing them and whatnot any of the potential candidates sparked the Bears interest, maybe Greenbays QB coach but that was blocked. The only coach that the bears wanted and missed was Perry Fewell. -

QUOTE (Jenks Heat @ Feb 1, 2010 -> 02:38 PM) Great so Jay Cutler will be on his 4th different OC going into the 2011 season. With a bad O-line that will be without Olin for most of the learning curve and a below average receiving corp this thing could be epically bad. Wait until after the off-season to comment on the makeup of the team. I think a WR will be added in f/a and can only hope that the Bears sign someone for the OL too. So far despite all the criticism the Bears have gotten Tice/Martz have been very solid hires. Anyone know what kind of candidates are lined up for the D-Coordinator job? -

QUOTE (Quinarvy @ Jan 31, 2010 -> 05:12 PM) The Super SSOL. I heard the Oden/Durant argument. One would be better (Beasley and Durant) but the other could be a top player at premier position. Nah, with Oden/Durant there was a real debate over it, I think Rose was actually more highly thought of than Beasley for the most part. -
QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jan 31, 2010 -> 04:29 PM) Who in the heck buys tickets to see Johnny Damon??? I dont think Jim Thome is really a draw either but people seem to think so, there are really very few players who actually sell tickets just by their precense. I actually dont think there is 1 player who actually draws fans just for his namesake in mlb right now besides possibly Ichiro.

QUOTE (kapkomet @ Jan 31, 2010 -> 01:21 PM) It's crazy! Man, I sooo agree. Everything bad and wrong occured under BUSHIE. That asshole prick has wrecked everything for Obama. In 100 years, it'll still be that asshole George W. Bush. I can't believe how he destroyed the country so and made all the little people bow down to his wishes, just to make points just like the one above! Wow... I just can't believe it. What a dick he was. He was a poor president, but that post was just stating a fact that he knew happened under the Bush administration. He never even said it was wrong...... -
QUOTE (SoxFan562004 @ Jan 31, 2010 -> 11:57 AM) they tried a few opponents, but the AC was real strict about who they would OK a fight with. Yes, he is in tremendous shape for a 48 year old, but I agree with what Jay Glazer twittered, basically he said that he loves when people give the sport a try, but the sport is getting to big for spectacles like that. I agree, I don't begrudge Walker in any way, but it kind of makes the sport look bad when that fight and the Lashley fights are shown on a big card. Have to remember for his first ever fight and only a few months of training, Walker was pretty damn impressive. Obviously he has a lot to improve on if he wants to continue his mma career but you dont become great overnight. He apparently is still in amazing shape so be interesting if he continues to train and fight again, he obviously didnt take any damage in the match that would slow him down.

You all are way over-exagerating, sure Liriano being the pitcher of old would be a boost for the Twins but we can easily say if Quentin or Rios are the players they were a couple years back this team will be fine. Just have to wait and see and let things play out.

QUOTE (hitlesswonder @ Jan 30, 2010 -> 10:10 PM) That's true enough I guess, but Illinois is quite likely to go 1-8 down the stretch in the Big Ten...by the end of the year I don't think anyone will feel like Illinois is a favorite to win any given game. Im assuming you have them beating Iowa next so you really think it is likely that Illinois will lose 8 in a row? -

QUOTE (kev211 @ Jan 30, 2010 -> 08:06 PM) Yes, and if U of I beat Niagara then I'd expect that same thing from you. If I don't have the right to bring up that stat after being told my school has no hope of beating U of I then something is wrong. Nobody said ISU has no hope in beating U of I, you have just over-exagerated the issue the entire time and have been annoying as hell doing so, even more so than Jimbo. Fact of the matter is the Illini are clearly the superior team, obviously in a given game anything can happen but if they went headsup vs ISU more likely than not U of I wins. End of issue. -

GoodAsGould replied to Balta1701's topic in The Filibuster
It does make a lot of sense to legalize, would save money from not having to make arrests over it etc. and could tax it like cigarettes/alcohol. Still be in debt but definitely a step in the right direction in getting out of it. Also, legalizing a drug that everyone has done is a far step from becoming Amsterdam. -

QUOTE (Quinarvy @ Jan 29, 2010 -> 01:37 AM) MJ congratulates Rose on the All-Star nod. http://sports.espn.go.com/chicago/nba/news/story?id=4867374 Sam Smith reads our minds and talks about Rudy Gay and Amar'e Stoudemire http://www.nba.com/bulls/news/smith_100125.html My dream was always Bosh and Joe Johnson but if we somehow got Gay and Stoudemire this team definitely would have no problem scoring a bunch, but we might be as bad as the Suns were on defense. -

QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ Jan 27, 2010 -> 11:34 AM) Bosh will leave. He is the one guy that can make so much more in endorsements if he leaves and gets on a bigger named team. Wade/James don't really have much to gain by leaving. I could see them both leaving or at least testing the market depending on how well each team does in the playoffs. Lebron could go to NJ and have a better surrounding cast than what he does in Cleveland.. -
QUOTE (daa84 @ Jan 27, 2010 -> 11:10 AM) Keith Law (who most people here hate) voted us as having the worst minor league system in the league....im very surprised he put the cubs at #7... We have an extraordinarily little amount of depth....especially in terms of arms...but i think hudson, flowers, danks and mitchell is a decent crop toward the top With those 4 to go along with Viciedo/Morel/Thompson I definitely dont think we belong ranked last, yes there isnt much depth outside of the top10 or so but I think the Sox should be closer to 20th.
