QUOTE (fathom @ Mar 24, 2010 -> 10:54 PM) Nope, he seems to be a really good kid from what people say about him. Something that's very important is that some of the players with poor work ethics leave the program before they set a bad example for some of the superior talents coming in. If you have guys like McCamey and Davis showing Richmond/Leonard/Head how to go through the motions, then that's a disaster waiting to happen. I disagree on McCamey, yes he has clashed with Weber a few times but he has also listened and definitely upped his game.

Dayton is not missing anything right now, cant even blame the illini for getting their asses kicked so far.

QUOTE (G&T @ Mar 24, 2010 -> 08:54 AM) They were thinking that Nathan was in his late 20's and had one decent year and they could sell high, and that Liriano was a giant injury risk (which they were right about). The trade looks worse because of what happened in SF that year. If I remember Boof Bonser was the biggest trade piece at the time, regardless AJ is an avg. catcher and they paid a heavy price for him.

QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Mar 24, 2010 -> 09:18 AM) The only way that works is if he's able to sign with one of the teams that have cap room and stuff to trade for him that equals his contract. Unless the Lakers have an interest in Deng (oh please oh please oh please) the Bulls would still need someone to help them on a sign and trade taking on a very large contract. If the Timberwolves are serious about dumping Jefferson another option the Bulls could look into is signing either Wade or JJ and trading Deng and a 1st or whatever for Jefferson. I actually really like James Johnson and think he might even be better for the team if the Bulls can land Wade. -
QUOTE (qwerty @ Mar 23, 2010 -> 03:37 PM) He did better than you remember in 2004. April/March - 2.45 era May - 0.00 era June - 1.50 era July - 0.00 era August - 5.06 era September/October - 1.29 era Every month he pitch at least 10.2 innings with the high side of 14 innings in september/october. Nathan had a pretty darn solid season in 2003 as a full time reliever with the giants also. Who knows what the giants were thinking when they made that trade, yes AJ was coming off his best season but wow did they overpay.

QUOTE (knightni @ Mar 24, 2010 -> 01:41 AM) We at Soxtalk care. As an adult, you shouldn't have to stoop to the level of an insulting child just to have a sports discussion. Thus, our personal attacks policy. He didnt name any specific person in his post so there was no personal attack in this instance and you all are making it a bigger deal than it needs to be.

QUOTE (knightni @ Mar 21, 2010 -> 04:29 PM) Your original title was (intentionally or unintentionally) challenging people to attack you and your opinion by "calling them out" on their own opinions of JD. The site doesn't need people starting threads while phrasing things in that way. It just makes people upset. At the same point who cares, calling people out sometimes lead to good discussions and we are all adults or at least highschoolers on this message board no need to be so overly protective.

QUOTE (Jenksismyb**** @ Mar 23, 2010 -> 09:22 AM) I really hope the addition of Richmond, Head, Leonard and Bertrand bring an attitude adjustment to this team. Richmond especially since he'll probably get the majority of bench time (if not starting time). That's the one aspect this team is missing. They can shoot, they can play decent enough defense, but they lack the killer instinct. They were up on so many teams this year but let them get back in the game. I wonder if Weber would ever go to a lineup of McCamey, Richardson, Paul, Richmond, and Davis at times just to increase pace of games and cause matchup problems

QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Mar 23, 2010 -> 08:06 AM) The question you have to ask your scouts is...why is he stuck in AAA for the Royals. Do the Royals just think he's a career minor leaguer? It's always possible. Billy Butler is really good and they are paying Jose Guillen too much money to sit on the bench. I dont know how good of a prospect he is but Id say those are the 2 big reasons for him not to be on the mlb club.

QUOTE (zenryan @ Mar 22, 2010 -> 11:43 PM) I dont think Bader or Jones should get the winner of Griffin/Nog because the winner of Griffin/Nog gains nothing by fighting Jones/Bader at that point. I think a Bones vs Tito fight would have been perfect if it wasnt for the stupid Liddell/Tito storyline. Jones fights a former but still respectable champ who is a household name. A win there allows Jones to move up into the Rampage/Evans/Forrest part of the pecking order. The 205 division seems to be the haves and the have nots. Problem is there isnt many people in the middle for Jones and Bader right now. Although them fighting each other makes it easier to rank the two right now so I'd be excited to see that fight. I agree with Bader, he doesnt have the hype and he hasnt been crushing opponents the way Jones has. Hopefully when Rampage beats Rashad, I think a Bader/Rashad matchup would be good. I really hope they dont matchup Jones with Jardine, that would be depressing and a waste of time.

QUOTE (WilliamTell @ Mar 22, 2010 -> 06:05 PM) Got my first ticket after more than 8 years of driving. Kind of sucks but what can you do. I was driving 64 in a 55 according to my truck but 66 according to him. Thats a pretty weak ticket, everyone is going at least that speed in a 55.

Im so happy that Keller is a senior, seems like a good guy and all but idiot on the court. Im excited next season to see McCamey considering how much he has improved just this season.

QUOTE (MHizzle85 @ Mar 22, 2010 -> 07:06 PM) I say you throw Jones in there against Bader. You see what your 2 best prospects at 205 have to offer. They're young enough that a loss won't hurt either guy IMO. You wanna build up one of these guys to be a monster so by the time one of them reaches top 5 status, he becomes a draw with casual fans as well as hardcore fans. I think they want to keep them away from each other like velazquez and dos santos in heavyweight. I think one of them should get the winner of the Griffin/Nog fight for sure and if he loses maybe Bader vs Rashad would be another good matchup.
-
QUOTE (MHizzle85 @ Mar 22, 2010 -> 11:41 AM) This is exactly what they shouldn't do. I say he's about a year before he's thrown in the top 5 mix. He's impressive yes & he's dominated his fights but you don't wanna throw him into deep waters yet. 1 or 2 more fights against guys who could bring a fight to him. Why not, he has dominated every guy he has faced.... If he was being challenged Id agree but he isn't even being punched anymore it seems. I have a feeling his next matchup will be against a guy like Griffin or Thiago Silva which Id imagine Jones would whoop both of them as well.
-
Jones needs a top5 fight next, if they give him some hack like Griffin Ill be annoyed. I think he needs one fight against very top competition and with a win should be in line for a title belt.

QUOTE (knightni @ Mar 21, 2010 -> 06:00 PM) I want OSU to win it all so that Titus has a great ending to his book. Then, it'll be extra awesome when he sells the film rights. Only if he gets to play in the championship game.

QUOTE (Princess Dye @ Mar 21, 2010 -> 06:12 PM) Seems like no one ever wants to come right out and say the PK contract was a mistake. There are so many ways to spend $ at that position. If it was a less popular player, many would here be saying that deal cost us a second championship. Ive never been a big Konerko fan, but the year the Wsox were primed to win the WS was 2006 and Konerko was really good that season.

QUOTE (The Baconator @ Mar 20, 2010 -> 02:16 AM) I recently moved down to Arkansas (shudder) for work, and the have me stationed in Fayetteville. First thing I did when I got here was check out the baseball schedule, and caught a game against Troy. The Razorbacks are #15th in the country and it's always good to see some quality baseball played. I've got to say, their complex here is QUITE impressive. And their fans are very passionate. I hope I'll be able to make it out for a number of games down here, seeing that they'll play a number of great teams. While U of I baseball games are fun (for the 40 people in attendance), southern schools now how to do college baseball the right way. Gotta love that *ping*! Yeah I go to this indoor rock climbing place just off campus all the time but Im always in awe of their baseball facilities. Especially compared to the SIU ballpark lol.

Andruw Jones spring training mean anything?
GoodAsGould replied to southsider2k5's topic in Pale Hose Talk
I know numbers dont mean much when it comes to spring training but watching a guy you can definitely tell if its clicking for him or not. For example, whenever I have seen Quentin bat this ST he has hit line drives all over the place, sometimes they have been right at defenders but just seeing him hit the ball that hard has me encouraged and expecting a good season from him assuming health. -

GoodAsGould replied to southsider2k5's topic in Alex’s Olde Tyme Sports Pub
The good thing about the trades besides clearing cap space is I think Law/Warrick/Flip can all be solid contributers to this team and Bulls would still have money to bring in a top f/a. Id be very content with a bench that contains those 3 plus Johnson/Miller. -
At this point he needs to be in AAA being the fulltime starter and maybe working with a peer like Lucy he can even improve his defense some. He def. should be looked upon as a sept. callup and assuming has a successful season penciled in as the starter next season. Pierynzski is getting old and Id love to have him back next season if he is willing to take that reduced role.

QUOTE (Kenny Hates Prospects @ Mar 15, 2010 -> 12:51 AM) People who don't post in this thread suck, but people who do post in this thread are awesome. That's how you tell the difference between people who suck and people who are awesome. So let's find out who is awesome and who sucks. Here's a series of questions that anyone can answer - hardcore fan or not. You can answer some or all. Hopefully it will give some life to this thread, which is way too important to be buried under a bunch of bulls*** that doesn't even matter anyway. Who is your favorite fighter? What's your favorite fight? Do you remember the first fight you ever watched? If so, what was it? Do you remember the fight that got you hooked? If so, what was it? If you could fight any one fighter for honor, who would it be? And how would you want that fight to go? If you could fight and finish any one fighter, presumably out of dislike, who would it be and how would you end it? If you had the authority to book a 5-fight PPV card, and if you could book any fighter in the world regardless of promotional affiliation, what card would you make? If you could make any one change to today's MMA - be it a rule change, time/rounds adjustment, ring/cage adjustment, judging/scoring change, or anything else - what would it be and why? Let's say you had a time machine. If you could go back in time and collect one legendary fighter who was then in his prime, and then bring that fighter back to today and have him face a current opponent, what fight would you make, and who would you pick to win? Which current fighter out there now do you think will be known as the best of this current era in 10 years time? Name an athlete from another major non-combat sport that you think could have been a top contender in MMA. If given 12 months of training under a great coach of your choice, how many of Bobby Lashley's current opponents (some nobody, Bob Sapp, Jason Guida, Wes Sims... maybe there's someone else) do you think you would *not* be able to defeat? And keep in mind Jason Guida can't even cut weight without cramping up and quitting, so you might not even have to step into the cage for that one. Which fighter would you be most scared to face if you had to? Let's say you're in jail alone with some dude who thinks you're pretty. Which MMA fighter would you most like to have your back? - Edit: I mean like which fighter would you want protecting you. I'm not talking about being mounted here. Favorite Fighter: BJ Penn Favorite Fight: Fedor vs Cro Cop First Fight: The first card I watched was Griffin vs Rampage, that also got me hooked onto the sport. For Honor: St Pierre, Id hope to knock his ass out lol For Hatred: I don't really hate any fighter, but I guess would be cool to break Frank Mir's arm 5 Fight Card: Fedor v Lesnar, A. Silva v Machida/Shogun(whoever wins rematch), Jon Jones v Mousassi, Penn v Aldo, and King Mo v Rampage Rule Change: Reallow kicks/stomping on opponents on ground like Pride rules and legalize the elbows that disqualified Jon Jones his last fight History Fight: Bas Rutten v Jon Jones Love both fighters and should be a fun fight, pick Rutten to win for experiance. Best Current Fighter: Has to be Georges St. Pierre, nobody has touched him in that division since a fluke loss and still relatively young. Fighter from other sport: James Johnson, from all accounts he could be a mma fighter if wasn't in NBA, I think I remember reading Lashley's Opponents: Don't think I could beat any of those guys, it would at least take more than 12 months of training. Scared to Fight: Lesnar, dude is a giant and probably has no problem bashing my head in Fighter have my back: Clay Guida, dude never backs down from anything.

QUOTE (RockRaines @ Mar 14, 2010 -> 12:15 AM) Glad I was out and didnt come in this foul b**** fest as the OSU Illanoy game went on. The illinois hack fest was on full display tonight. Love to see Minny kick the s*** out of Purdue, that was fantastic. Now only Minny needs to win to get 6 in the tourney. Yeah I dont see how you call it an Illinois hack fest, overall the game was called pretty fairly. Only issue I had was the intentional foul call and than when Turner committed a foul that was a no call that lead to Tisdale picking up his 5th foul. But, when there are really only 2 complains about a game that means the refs did a pretty damn good job.
