  1. QUOTE (WHITESOXRANDY @ Jan 15, 2010 -> 06:38 AM) Boston Red Sox rotation: 1. John Lackey - 2009 on DL made only 27 starts for only 176 inniings. 2008 on DL made only 24 starts for 163 inniings. 2. Josh Becket - 2008 on DL had ERA of 4.03. 2006 on DL had ERA over 5. 3. Dice K - on DL most of the yeas last year. Had ERA of 5.76 4. Jon Lester - had cancer a few years ago. 5. Tim Wakefield - older than dirt, nade only 21 starts last year with an ERA in the high 4's. 6. Clay Bucholz or Michael Bowden - neither has ever pitched a full season and both had ERA's in the 4's last year. Now that I use your reasoning I realize that Boston will probably finish in last place this year. so

QUOTE (Milkman delivers @ Jan 14, 2010 -> 04:12 AM) I thought 30 Days Of Night was really good, and definitely better than Daybreakers. Without a doubt 30 Days of Night was a 1000 times better than Daybreakers and thats more because Daybreakers was just an overall bad movie.
  3. Id offer the Rockets Kirk Hinrich, Tyrus Thomas, and a 1st, if it really comes down to it can throw in one of gibson/johnson as well which allows us to sign 2 big free agents this upcoming season. A lineup of Rose, Wade, Deng, Bosh, and Noah is deadly even so if you sub Wade for Joe Johnson. The bench would be pretty craptastic but come playoffs you only go 6-7 men deep anyways.
  4. Hank Blalock is still a f/a right? He can be our primary DH and at times play 3B/1B which allows Ozzie to have an open door at DH and everything still, not too mention another lefty bat in the lineup.
  5. QUOTE (RockRaines @ Jan 8, 2010 -> 10:28 AM) LOL, Schaumburg, didnt the guy say he wanted to be CLOSE to work. That is the absolute boonies. And much farther than a 45 min drive in traffic. Try westchester on the west side. Its become somewhat affordable and is a good starter area. Hell for that money you can get a good place in Forest park and still have a good nightlife in your city as well as even an El ride to downtown. Since we are almost the same age, Forest Park would be my choice if I was transitioning to the burbs without children. How the hell is Schaumburg the boonies, most people that live there either work in a corporate office or in the city... there always is the train one can take to the city as well. If I was moving to the suburbs Id either want to live in Naperville or Schaumburg.
  6. QUOTE (MexSoxFan#1 @ Jan 9, 2010 -> 06:28 PM) Cincy's PK better start looking for another job. Id cut him before the press conference
  7. As for the online debate Id also add imo the top non-sport online game right now is Uncharted2 as well, so I dont really see what advantage the 360 has over ps3. That being said of course I own a 360 myself and of course the hard drive is broken so I cant even use xbox live.
  8. QUOTE (rcpweiner @ Dec 23, 2009 -> 03:53 AM) Huh? Who said anything about Javy being better than Floyd? Javy is a 3rd starter for the Yankees and Floyd is a 4th starter for the Sox, so I wasn't even comparing those two. In my little equation, Javy is the worst number 3 starter of the three teams. Again, huh? You have Javy being better than Petitte but Petitte being equal to Floyd is what the poster was referring too.
  9. I agree that when a bunch of people say RIP and get all gushy over someone who didnt live a particular good life I find it dumb and dont take part of it. But as far as saying he gawn and he was trash etc. etc., wow are you an ignorant pos.
  10. QUOTE (Y2HH @ Dec 17, 2009 -> 08:24 AM) Yes, it *is* remotely true. LEDs do NOT look better than my new Samsung Plasma -- at BEST, they could match current plasma or 120hzLCD in terms of visual quality, but at a premium of 1500$ and possibly in a smaller size. I know because I had one...and returned it for the Plasma I now own...which I will not be returning, because it's that much better, it's bigger, and it was way cheaper. I repeat, someday you will be right...but right now LED TV technology is in it's infancy, it has it's problems, and it's too expensive. Problems that have long been worked out of LCD 120hz, Plasma, and DLP televisions. If I was to recommend anything to someone right now, either get a current generation Plasma or a current generation LCD @120hz. And don't believe the screen burn hype when it comes to Plasmas...that's a thing of the past. They have many built in protections against this now. This is the TV I currently own...it's a bit expensive for Plasma because it's current generation...but I couldn't pass up the fact that it's 1.2" thick. http://www.samsung.com/us/consumer/tv-vide...type=prd_detail Thats nice and all, but for the last 2 years Ive been working in an electronics department where I get to stare at the tv's all day long. I agree with you on LED's being way too expensive currently but that doesnt change from the fact that they offer a clearly better picture and anyone who looks at one next to a 120hz LCD or Plasma can tell you the same thing. That being said, like I said before the Panasonic Plasma is probably next best after the LED's and a helluva lot cheaper. And like you said burn in and glare are not an issue like it was in the past.
  11. damn relievers are making a lot of money and its not even the elite ones anymore, although Gonzalez has sick stuff.
  12. QUOTE (iamshack @ Dec 16, 2009 -> 11:42 PM) It's definitely a dicey situation for Hoyer, but guys like him don't get to where they are without thinking of this s*** themselves. I'm sure if he does deal Adrian, it'll be because it's an offer he cannot refuse. He doesn't have to be in any hurry... With that rotation and if they get Beltre and Adrian that team will be scary good, have plus defenders in multiple positions and a great offense/pitchingstaff.
  13. If I remember right, Dye had a handshake agreement with KW before he initially signed with us but actually had offers from other teams that were more than what we were paying him. That either says something about him as a man or maybe some desire to play in Chicago? Most of the time its not about a player wanting to play somewhere as it is who is going to pay him the most, only teams that may get a small discount are the players current team or hometown team.
  14. QUOTE (Athomeboy_2000 @ Dec 16, 2009 -> 09:22 AM) Mascot Dunk Attempt Fail The best part of that is nobody went to go see if he was ok, the referees were only a few feet and didnt bother helping him up or anything.... Why would anyone ever want to be a mascot especially on the highschool level.
  15. QUOTE (Y2HH @ Dec 16, 2009 -> 04:12 PM) LED may have them both beat -- someday -- but right now LED's do NOT have them beat. First and Second generation techs are often "good" but nowhere near as good as they will be when they mature, and this is where bigger screened LED's are right now. A really good plasma or non LED will look superior right now, simply due to the more mature technologies behind them. Not to mention the bang for the buck you'll get right now. If you want LED, look to pay 2.5k+ (if not more) if you don't want really crappy tech stuffed into the box. Thats not even remotely true, LED's right now look nicer than regular LCD's and Plasma's but cost a significantly amount more. If you arent looking to spend that kind of money though Id suggest a Panasonic plasma, they will be a better picture for a longer time than any regular lcd and actually are more energy efficient now as well.
  16. QUOTE (MHizzle85 @ Dec 14, 2009 -> 10:19 AM) I don't see how beating Cain would boost Big Nog up anymore than he already is. Cain needs to win that fight more than Nog does. Plus Mir finally getting proper strength & conditioning can only make him better against bigger guys. I'd be confident in his skills against Carwin. Well losing to Cain would obviously knock him down a peg though, while with a win he pretty much has to be the number 1 contender. I think Mir could beat Carwin as well, but after the asswhooping he took against Lesnar he needs to prove it, hell even though he ended up winning he took an ass whooping in the first fight too.
  17. QUOTE (MHizzle85 @ Dec 14, 2009 -> 12:13 AM) BJ is the best 155'er ever. I guess you give Maynard the next shot if he beats Diaz, if not him Frankie Edgar I suppose. If Penn is gonna try his hand at 170 again, he's gotta go through a couple of the guys at the top before you even think about giving him a 3rd GSP fight. The FightMetric stats say that Sanchez landed only 8 strikes in the ENTIRE fight. He was successful 7% of the time, while BJ was successful 70% of the time. Sanchez was also 0 for 27 on attempted takedowns...holy s***. Mir's also proved he's one of the best at selling fights. Depending on what happens with Lesnar and other dealings, I think you've gotta make Lesnar/Mir III before anything else. I would give Carwin the winner of Cain/Big Nog. Also, I'd book Sanchez/Florian II as well. Idonno, I think if Nog wins that fight vs Cain he has to be the number 1 contender, can give Mir a matchup against Carwin to prove he can beat a guy of Lesnar's size.
  18. I wouldnt hate Cust if we gave him a contract with an option for a 2nd year, it wouldnt cost much and leaves us available to spend some money on a 3rd OF in f/a or trade.
  19. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Dec 12, 2009 -> 02:48 PM) I would love to have him back, but I think he'd be looking for more than 150 AB. I really think Pieryznski could use a few more days off and Id want Olivo out there against pretty much all lefties, if I remember right he crushes them. Plus would be nice to finally have a catcher with a canon arm throwing out runners.
  20. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Dec 12, 2009 -> 12:38 PM) Hamilton was pretty much a persona non grata at that point. There weren't going to be many teams that took a chance on him with his history. Wasnt his mentor or something in Cincy at the time, so it was more of a trade done for Hamilton's sake than anything else?
  21. Someone got a video link to this supposed amazing goal?
  22. QUOTE (Kalapse @ Dec 8, 2009 -> 04:25 PM) Looks like the Braves are going to attempt to trade Rafael Soriano, as he has granted them the necessary consent to do so. If he is available for a cheap prospect since obviously this wasnt in the Braves plans I wouldnt mind him, the bp would be taken care of.
  23. Id give him a reasonable sized contract with incentives to be a good sized one for IP and ERA or K's or whatever the club seems fit. Id also think with Hudson likely being in the pen and Garcia being our 5th that the bp would be pretty damn good.
  24. QUOTE (Soxbadger @ Dec 7, 2009 -> 03:24 PM) I doubt there has been a year where there have been 8 unbeaten teams. (I think this year with 5 unbeaten is the most). There probably has been a year where there have been 8 unbeaten and 1 loss teams or just 8 1 loss teams. But not all wins and losses are equal. If Florida played Cinci's schedule, how many losses do you think they would have? If they didnt have to play the SEC championship, there were 6 undefeated and 6 with 2 losses. How do you pick 8 from that? And if you only pick 4, 1 of the unbeaten's doesnt get a chance. I dont see any reason to get rid of the division championship games, those can go a far way to determine seeding, and if there were 8 teams this year Florida would still get in. Hell if they really wanted to make sure every deserving team got in could extend it to 16 teams, at that point if you took care of business and did what your supposed to do, that team will be in the playoffs.
  25. QUOTE (Soxbadger @ Dec 7, 2009 -> 03:07 PM) Thats not 100% true. There are scenarios where 8 or more teams could go undefeated. Its highly unlikely, but the possibility exists. Thats why I really just dont care about a playoff system. It may be more enjoyable, it may be less enjoyable, but it will in no way end the argument over who is the best team. If anything it potentially could create more arguments. IE Florida makes the playoff after losing to Alabama. Alabama loses in the first round to opponent X, Florida goes on to win the the playoffs but never faces Alabama or opponent X. Its just for fun. Im not a college football expert by any means, but has there ever been a year where there has been 8 undefeated teams and how long ago has it been?
