QUOTE(kyyle23 @ Jul 20, 2007 -> 12:28 PM) LOL, what the heck would that have to do with him being a Sox great? I thought Shoota's post was mistakenly not in green. A shuttle run prevents Frank from being in the top 5 in Sox history?!? Hey Shoota, check out next Friday's game when the Blue Jays come in. 35000+ will let you know otherwise when Frank strides to the plate And way to go Sox! Take 3 of 4 from Boston and .500 is within reach then!

That a great question. With Ichiro off the market, FA isn't much of an avenue for Kenny to explore. Rowand's looking to get overpaid with 10 mil a yr and Hunter will cost 14 mil for at least 5 yrs per so no thank you. With that in mind, I'm sure the Sox will go cheap and bring back his Royal Grindness Erstad for CF, his Royal DL Podsednik for LF and let Anderson, Sweeney and Owens duke it out for RF in Spring Training. Now what would I do? I'd offer Hunter a 3 yr deal with a 4th yr option worth 43-46 mil and see where that leads. Sign back Crede to play 3B and try out Fields in LF and let Anderson, Sweeney and Owens battle it out for RF. If Hunter goes to another team, Mike Cameron wouldn't be a bad fit either and he'd be cheaper than the passion, I mean, Aaron Rowand. You can keep Mack and Pods for some hitting/speed off the bench but if they start more than twice a week, you know we're really screwed.

I can understand Jermaine's frustration and "panic" of no long term deal. Coming off a career yr, he thought he would get some extra security in the '06-'07 offseason from the Sox but prudently, they didn't offer it. The best situation for him would be a trade to either LA, SD or Mil so if he can get hot and carries a team to the playoffs, he may get some decent offers in the offseason.

QUOTE(iamshack @ Jul 10, 2007 -> 09:16 AM) My roomate and I were discussing this this afternoon. The question becomes, how do you play Joe and build his trade value without stunting Josh's development? Do you platoon them? Does Josh rotate between third and left field and dh? I'm already feeling the pain at third without Joe, even though I have been saying for a year or so that Joe's defense is taken for granted. But I guess this is one of the side-effects of signing Mark- even if Joe does somehow make a full recovery- we don't have the money to sign him long term. It's going to be a difficult situation for Ozzie getting Joe the pt he needs to build his value without messing with Fields' development too much. I guess we'll know more by season's end. I'd play Fields in LF and have Crede back at 3B in '08 since the Sox still control his rights until after next yr. Try that for awhile. If Crede plays like '06 again, there's a trade chip for KW and then put Fields back at 3B. Keeps Fields in the majors and KW's shopping list a little smaller since he has to look for a CF, RF, SS, 2B and two starting pitchers assuming he trades Vazquez and Contreras by the deadline or this offseason.

White Sox vs. Twins, Game 2 of DH, 7/06/07 (L)

QUOTE(RME JICO @ Jul 7, 2007 -> 02:38 AM) There is a silver lining in all of this. After today's display there is no way KW can keep this team intact. I dunno what's worse, the two shellackings today by a division rival or your suggestion that KW needed more evidence like today to back up the truck -

QUOTE(DonnyDevito @ Jul 7, 2007 -> 02:21 AM) minnesota won't ever win a ring, atleast not any time soon. the division is not only too stacked nowadays, but they can't keep their talent. the real reason though is the twins are always regular season champs only to wind up getting swept in the 1st round of the playoffs. they just can't win in October for whatever reason. Agree 100%. I'm tired of the Twin ass-kissing by everyone in the Sox organization for the last 5 yrs. Everyone else beats them and has no problem wiping them out of the playoffs but listen to our guys and you'd think the Twins have won the last 5 World Series -
QUOTE(TheBigHurt @ Jul 6, 2007 -> 11:03 PM) If Ichiro is ever on this team I will shed tears of joy. I doubt it happens, but it would be great. That should be KW's 1st priority in the offseason: Sign Ichiro! But then again, I'm sure they'll cheap out and sign back his exalted grindness, Darin Erstad for another yr of playing for a month and getting hurt the other 5 Or A-Rod opts out and Bora$$ uses KW's lustfulness again to drive up his price on Anaheim as KW misses out on Ichiro and signs whatever overrated pitcher is left in FA after Buehrle signs with the Mets. Oh God, I hope I'm wrong

500 HRs for my favorite White Sox player of all time And to assclowns who say he isn't a 1st Ballot Hall of Famer, screw them! Least all his HRs were all from natural strength and skill, unlike others Friday, July 27th, I will be there in my 35 Thomas Sox Jersey standing on my feet as soon as he appears on the on-deck circle
-
Be nice to have both of them leading off the rotation for the next couple of yrs Picked Buehrle to keep and the facial hair to Garland.
-
The yrs on it sound good, the $$ sure doesn't. I expected MB to fetch at least 14 mil but then again, it's a difference of 1.5 mil so it all depends on how much Mark really needs for him and his family. 50 mil is a great start though

QUOTE(Steff @ Jun 25, 2007 -> 04:24 PM) I know first hand that they don't care and I've been saying it since the start of the season. This is a group of passive boys who care more about getting drunk and their golf game than how they do their job. Steff, if this is true (And I have no reason to doubt it), then nobody here can blame Ozzie and KW for this season then. Lazy b$@#ards -
QUOTE(striker62704 @ Jun 25, 2007 -> 03:33 PM) Trade Contreras (if he'll waive and there are takers), trade Dye, trade Thome (if he'll waive and there are takers), trade Iguchi (if there's a taker), trade Uribe (if there's a taker), trade Buehrle. In that order. You free up $9 + $7 + $15 + $3 + $4 + $9= $47mil in payroll Let Podsednik walk, another $3mil. $50mil Resign Buehrle (5 @ 15), sign Ichiro(4 @13) The key would be getting solid pitching and hitters in return for your trades. We want to keep our strength (Starting pitching) while strengthing our weaknesses (offense and bullpen) I like your thinking here. I forgot Ichiro is on the FA market and this guy would be perfect for '08. And if A-Rod opts out, there's a potential target for KW since we know he loves A-Rod. I hope we see Buehrle and Garland anchoring the rotation with Contreras and Vazquez completely gone. Let's hope they keep up what they started in the Cubs series so KW can keep Mark here.

QUOTE(greg775 @ Jun 25, 2007 -> 02:02 AM) Yep. That is what a good fan is supposed to do. A good fan, however, also can moan and groan and sell their tickets 'cause this has been playing some really bad, historically bad baseball. But anybody who totally abandons this team is what they call a front runner. This is embarrassing and sick to watch, but a true fan won't totally abandon ship. They will b**** and groan and drink themselves to oblivion, but not wear paper bags over their heads like that moron asshole shown on WGN today. Hey bagman, did you have that bag over your head when the Sox won the World Series? Get a grip, man. to you and Steff for some much needed perspective. I loved watching the White Sox since 1986, when those teams and fan support were really pathetic so the play of this yr's team still is far from that level of so-called embarassment. I also see the blame game is being played on KW instead of Ozzie now but without hindsight, the best laid plans oft go astray. KW had a plan, yes, it didn't work, but I have the confidence that he will put together a new one, one that will have thought, direction and purpose, just like he had in '05. -

QUOTE(Al Lopez @ Jun 23, 2007 -> 12:42 PM) This should draw some comment. http://www.suntimes.com/sports/baseball/wh...T-sox23.article Good news to me. Through the good ('05) and through the bad (This yr), Ozzie Guillen remains consistent in his approach to his players and the game and especially in his press conferences Kenny's the one in the hot seat if anything. Sure, his idea for the bullpen this yr blew up but at least he had one. I expect him to be at the top of his game come this July trading deadline and offseason.

The one positive was Contreras and Vazquez upping their trade value in this series. If those two get traded, MArk Buehrle stays here -
QUOTE(bulokis @ Jun 22, 2007 -> 11:18 PM) That's more interesting than watching this freaking team. Fire sale starts Sunday!!! And how long before Bears' TC opens up?

QUOTE(RibbieRubarb @ Jun 22, 2007 -> 11:01 PM) This team has not had a below .500 season since 1999. Since 1990, they finished in 1st or 2nd place 14 out of 17 years with one world championship (the other three years in third place). Minnesota can't claim that, Detroit can't claim that and Cleveland, even with their division titles and no WS Championships, can't claim that kind of record. We have had a great run. You should be proud of this organization. They have always been competitive. There needs to be changes made in scouting and the players on the field, but not the mass firings you are hoping for. Sorry. That doesn't make any sense.

QUOTE(CWSOX45 @ Jun 22, 2007 -> 08:54 PM) These idiots don't even have a game plan. The game plan with Zambrano has always been take as many pitches as you can, step out of the box and throw off his timing. When the guy gets pissed and annoyed he loses all poise on the mound. Turn his emotions against him god dammit. He's thrown Strike 1 on 7 of the 9 hitters he's faced so Step 1 of your gameplan isn't a good idea right now. Hell, Terrero had an 8 pitch count and he still struck out. Zambrano's on so pray he throws a 1st pitch fastball in the wrong spot and a Sox hitter hits it.

QUOTE(chisox72 @ Jun 22, 2007 -> 01:33 AM) Then leave. Just because it isn't a big deal to you, to others it is. I have a lot of Cub fan friends who love to talk smack. Such smack can be averted with a Sox winner. I have friends that are Cubs fans and we actually have intelligent, objective baseball conversations about each other's teams that don't turn into childish "my team is better than your team" crap. If you do with your buds, your problem. I am not sure how hoping the Sox win and not liking the Cubs makes someone whiny and jealous. In fact, that was a pretty s***ty thing to say on your part. He admits to being whiny and jealous in his post, I simply agreed with him. While the teams may not be rivals, to a certain degree, the fans are. That is where the fun of this series lies. And if it bothers you that much, maybe you take this s*** a little too seriously. Its meant to be fun. Again, the Cub fans I hang with don't look at me as a rival since I don't openly root for (Except when the Cubs play an AL Central Team) or against their team. And no, these games weren't fun for me, a former season ticket holder, to attend. I gave away my tickets to these games because I couldn't tolerate the level of absolute stupidity FROM BOTH SIDES in the stands.
-
QUOTE(Jenks Heat @ Jun 21, 2007 -> 10:16 PM) Sorry if this sounds like a typical b****ie, whining, jealous Sox fan but hey I need to get fired up to throw hands at the cell the next three days and this is what I choose. Oh boy I wish I could leave this town every time this stupid series comes up since the whiny, jealous Sox fans embarrass themselves and the rest of us Sox fans with this "We gotta beat the Cubs to preserve Sox pride" crap. Look man, winning this series won't make this disappointment of a season go away or lessen the sting of it. When the Sox won the '05 World Series, did the Cubs series that yr immediately come into your mind?

As long as the Sox put the ball in play against Dontrelle, they've got a puncher's chance. The fielding of the Marlins is just plain BAD!
-
QUOTE(Kalapse @ Jun 19, 2007 -> 04:44 AM) The Marlins don't know how to play defense, Josh Johnson still isn't 100% and BK Kim's major league career might just be over at the ripe old age of 29. If anything I come out of today's game with a bad taste in my mouth rather than a good one. Dye is having leg problems at the absolute wrong time, Jose Contreras appears to be on his way out and the bullpen is still scary bad. It would have been nice if the Sox hitters could drive the ball into the gaps with authority instead they were feasting on some of the most pathetic defensive efforts I've ever witnessed which is something a good team should be able to do but it doesn't get my hopes up about this offense at all. I'd rather take a "bad" win than a good loss any day of the week, especially this yr
-
QUOTE(southsider2k5 @ Jun 19, 2007 -> 12:15 PM) The conversation was probably closer to Kenny sitting down Pauly and saying listen, this is it. "I have tried everything and so has Ozzie. Hell I tried to trade most of your sorry asses, but nobody wants to give me anything for you guys. This is it. If you guys don't get hot NOW, you are all headed out to the highest bidder, no matter how bad that bid is. Now go tell the rest of those b****es unless they want to be shipped out yesterday, wake the hell up." Now that sounds like a Kenny Williams meeting, and not that PC BS that is in the Tribunes fluff piece. Couldn't agree more. KW told Paulie he's prolly the only one he wasn't trading If only Contreras and Vazquez were pitching well enough to trade. Those two are complete albatrosses on next yr's payroll with absolutely zero hope of return.
-
QUOTE(RX Bandits @ Jun 18, 2007 -> 02:23 AM) he takes the ball every 5th day. Yeah, Vazquez takes the ball every 5th day but you hafta pray he gets past the 5th inning every start. Here are two other things you can count on Javier "He's got great stuff even though he stunk in the NL in '05" Vazquez for: 1) To carry on a losing streak 2) To stop a winning streak I'd rather watch a rookie in there than to watch this 11 mil per yr career underachiever continue to take a giant crap on the mound every 5th day.
