  1. This didn't end well... https://twitter.com/barstoolbigcat/status/890425691262636033
  2. Cleveland is on a 7 game winning streak. We have no chance this series!

  4. MLB.com's Mark Feinsand reports that Derek Holland is drawing some interest. Holland has had an up-and-down season, posting a 5.12 ERA and 82/42 K/BB ratio over 102 innings for the White Sox. However, apparently that hasn't stopped teams from asking Chicago about the left-hander. Feinsand adds that Melky Cabrera has not been drawing much interest but could be dealt in August.
  5. You can get into Guranteed Rate Park for $5-$7 dollar tickets now. These are corner upper deck tickets, but I imagine you can move to open spots closer. At least that's my plan.
  6. Caulfield isn't really doing anything wrong/negative. He posted a fangraph article that demonstrated the riskiness of the White Sox Farm system brilliantly. I suggest reading it before you guys gang up on his devils advocate opinion. With that being said, the defence against the argument might be "all prospects are risky," and so, while the White Sox prospects are certainly risky, so are everybody elses. Therefore, the negative tendency is likely best put to rest, otherwise we will eat our eyes out over the next two years with this. Better to be optimistic about the future.
  7. Yankees and A's reach stalemate in Gray talks "According to Jon Heyman of FanRag Sports, the Yankees' trade talks for Sonny Gray have stalled because the Athletics are seeking one of either Clint Frazier or Gleyber Torres. That's a deal breaker for the Yankees, who are telling teams that Frazier and Torres are both off limits. The A's are also said to have interest in Estevan Florial, James Kaprielian and Jorge Mateo, though only as part of a package also featuring Frazier or Torres. If the stalemate continues, the Yankees could jump into the Yu Darvish sweepstakes and New York has also expressed interest in Lance Lynn and Jaime Garcia. Gray is still likely to be traded before Monday's deadline but he's not going to the Yankees unless the A's lower their asking price. " This kind of bothers me. What are the A's thinking asking for Torres or Frazier? I guess the one thing Gray has going for him is that he would be with the team (yankees) for more then just a rental period (I think). But seriously -- out of the 3 SP's available, Gray / Verlander / Darvish, I don't like any of them from a contenders standpoint. Darvish has been pretty bad, Gray hasn't been great, and while Verlander has been the most durable -- he doesn't provide the best stuff of the three at his age. If I'm a contender, I'm saying no thank you and looking towards Jamie Garcia and Ervin Santana and to a lower extent - Miguel Gonzalez. The prices for hte top 3 SP's available are much too high for their glaring weaknesses and problems. Darvish is something like "1-7 with 5.03 era in last 12 starts.. not good at all. " There's just no way I'd trade for him with what it'd cost.
  8. No chance of winning tonight. We have Pelfry going, they have Lester. Good for the Chicago team to win that needs the win, good for the chicago team to lose that needs the lose.
  9. This article might feed some information: http://m.mlb.com/news/article/214666508/pr...league-success/
  10. Yeah, I'm looking at random game highlights and there are many openings. I'll have to try buying tickets to my first white sox game in a long while.
  11. Random White sox question : If I buy corner upper upper deck tickets for $5 or $7 dollars, will I be able to move around, say, to an empty seat in the upper upper deck more behind the plate? Or will there be White Sox police stopping me from entering anywhere even tho there will be many empty seats? I used to be able to do this when I'd go to Tampa Bay Ray games in Florida. Buy the cheapest tickets, move all around the stadium (only spot that I couldn't go was near the front front row for obvious reasons). Thanks.
  12. QUOTE (Jose Abreu @ Jul 27, 2017 -> 11:56 AM) Moncada's son reacts to his father's HR AWESOME.
  13. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jul 27, 2017 -> 11:05 AM) While we may not have a great record of fixing guys, we do have one advantage - playing time. We can take guys like this and say "Here's a season or two, and a thousand PA's, go see what you can do". No one will care if we lose games if he hits .200 next year and then snaps it together afterwards. Absolutely. That's the beauty in a trade like this. Take a once highly valued player and give him every opportunity in the world to show why he was once valued. I do agree with the other side of the conversation stating that the W'Sox don't have a good track record here. Will see if that track record can change with the 'process' here.
  14. I got to say, as this team gets worse on a Major League level, my interest goes up... the rare moments of good baseball become so important, it is a thing of beauty! Young players, some journymen, looking to make it big on the big stage are giving every opportunity and it is fun watching them and also watching the team lose (tank to #1 baby).
  15. I can't imagine us getting anything for Shields, that's why I don't think he *should* go. It's more of a... I don't think he can go. MiGo is interesting, I can see him being another player dealt. Derek Holland is another player that I can't imagine going. I don't know why anyone would want Holland/Shields. Melky is a legit help to a contender, MiGo might be, but Shields/Holland are damaging to contenders.
  16. I have to imagine Melky is the last piece that should be dealt. Everyone else seems off limits (perhaps Avi, but he is likely more useful to us currently).
  17. QUOTE (Tony @ Jul 27, 2017 -> 10:18 AM) @ChuckGarfien 38s39 seconds ago More As for Melky Cabrera, White Sox are willing to eat money in a deal. For them, it's about getting the best possible prospects in return. This is fantastic to hear. Melky will be a nice get by some team (hopefully Royals). If we eat the cash, we should be able to get something nice in return. Fantastic.
  18. This is really a great trade. Chances are that Gillapsie doesn't make a huge dent in the future, but, we just traded Jennings who was a mediocre relief pitcher for a prospect that was ranked in the top 80 by baseball america coming into the season. This is buying low and we aren't really selling much (Jennings was effectively useless for us when we are tanking and not winning ball games).
  19. QUOTE (chitownsportsfan @ Jul 26, 2017 -> 07:41 PM) It def seems pitchers give Moncada a healthy amount of respect for a rookie. No reason not to with the line up we trot our there nightly.
  20. Always interesting taking looks into the future. Unfortunately, the threat of revenue and financial decisions remain prevalent against the natural beauty and creativity that competitive baseball could present. The idea that the players will be 'spammed' with advertisements is one of the most gross ideas I've encountered. We see stadium names and boards all emblazoned with advertisements which is already ruining the atmosphere of baseball. Putting advertisements on players would kill it for me. If we take away revenue bias and dream a little, I would like to see an MLB with more creativity and uniqueness. Stadiums like Wrigley, San Francisco, Houston, and Boston (and former Twins stadium - dome) are incredible assets. Giving stadiums more creative touches while maintaining equality in the game is something I would love to see. I'm not precisely sure how to make this happen, I'll let architects decide that, but the traditional 'block' of a stadium is quite boring. Give me some creativity! I would love to see a limit on free agent money. I'm not sure how this would work, but free agency is quite ridiculous in baseball. Needs a small fixing, also, a fixing so that teams can keep their franchise players more easily. It's hard to root for a franchise when their top players are going to be gone in 5 years. I am 50/50 on the DH debate. Obviously, the DH is great for the AL/extending players, but there's something unique about watching an AL game vs. watching an NL game. I guess, in the end, I'd have no problem with a full DH all over, it just makes more sense. I'd prefer to keep AL and NL in tact and not under one rough. Overall, baseball is pretty good. Certainly leagues a head of NBA and much more enjoyable for me then the NFL.

  22. James Shields: 4 out of his 5 last starts have been... BAD. Can he pitch a good one today? Arrieta has pitched decent over his past 5 with 3 good/great starts and 1 really bad start. Tim Anderson has a modest three game hit streak going, can he keep it up? Yoan Moncada has had a rough start to his W'Sox major league career and in particular this series. Can he turn it around? Will Melky still be on this team tomorrow? Who knows! Seems like it will be aaround 80 degrees tonight, but it'll feel closer to 90 degrees.
  23. Yeah, I think it would have been nice to package players, but if this is the best that we can do -- i'll take it. Let's be real, there is a ton of relivers on the market right now and Swarzak is just a rental and an unknown in terms of longevity. Smart move from both sides here.
