  1. QUOTE (fathom @ Aug 7, 2010 -> 07:33 PM) Yeah, so much for that focused AB by AJP. That's just pathetic. It will never happen... but i think 3 or so straight days off could do him wonders.
  2. To be fair to floyd, if he does end up with a bad to terrible line, he has pitched his f***ing balls off the last 11 starts. You have to get hit sooner or later, sometimes even against terrible teams, that's just the odds. Now let's just hope the sox can put up 6-7 in the next couple innings... so that it won't hurt us if he does indeed end up giving up a few.
  3. QUOTE (fathom @ Aug 6, 2010 -> 08:45 PM) Can Garcia pitch every game so we can have Castro become the starter? The quality of AJP's at bats are sickening. I absolutely do not want him back next season. The sox are 14 and 6 in games garcia starts. Far and away the best on the team
  4. QUOTE (Soxbadger @ Aug 6, 2010 -> 08:30 PM) Stone confirms change up. Im not sure Ive ever seen Pena use that pitch before. What a ballsy f***ing pitch on 3-2 with the bases loaded. You have never seen him throw a change? Prior to this game he has thrown it 19.3 percent of the time.
  5. This is far too simple of a concept for it to be discussed for a page and a half.
  6. QUOTE (SoxFan1 @ Jul 30, 2010 -> 02:54 PM) And again, the news doesn't report s***. And I don't know what news you watch, but like I said, I've never heard a specific gang name mentioned. And they certainly never say "The Kings and GD's are fighting over so and so block." Watch more news then. I don't know what to tell you.
  7. QUOTE (Kalapse @ Jul 30, 2010 -> 09:17 AM) They're really 2 different things. That's why they are best used hand in hand.
  8. QUOTE (daa84 @ Jul 30, 2010 -> 08:23 AM) over reaction city....jesus. Is this move a tremendous deal? no. does it have the potential to work out in our favor? yes. Does it have potential to blow up in our face? yes. the fact is we don't know. Nobody does. stop acting like this is the worst thing in the world. There is just as good of a chance that Hudson never comes close to being as good as Jackson as there is that he will be better, so right now all you can do is wait and see. Its certainly a gamble, and for a guy who has had success and had the 4th fastest fastball on average last season, I'm ok with us taking a gamble on Jackson. BTW....look at what Arizona gave up and got/will be getting for both Haren and Jackson. Talk about buying high, selling low I see zero ways this can work out in our favor. But i have already covered that in a previous post. It's not hard to match jackson's production. He is just not very good. Not even league average, though he is on the cusp. He still might have all the potential in the world, but until it starts translating, it's nothing more. There also comes a time when a player just is, what he is. I also disagree with your other statement. I would easily put it at 80% that hudson ends up equivalent if not better than jackson, and 20% that he ends up worse off. This is not me being a hudson fanatic, it's just that jackson is underwhelming.
  9. QUOTE (Frank_Thomas35 @ Jul 30, 2010 -> 08:06 AM) True but it shows that this deal is very very realistic with national guys and our guys reporting the same. Or it could very well mean nothing at all. The trade deadline is right around the corner... you are gonna be hearing hundreds of different variations of deals, which all sorts of players mentioned, only to have a small amount actually happen. Generally one third of the deals done on the day of the deadline are never leaked even the tiniest bit. You'll know when it's a done deal.
  10. QUOTE (Milkman delivers @ Jul 30, 2010 -> 07:33 AM) Says who, though? I know the mother was saying that (but the victim's mother always claims that their child was perfect and had nothing to do with gangs). The kid was shot 22 times. I really can't see that being a case of mistaken identity. A drive-by where the person is hit a few times (upwards of 10), yes, but not 22 times. While i agree with you that very likely was not a case of mistaken identity... the flipside is still plausible. Could have very well be an a one of, or a combination things: initiation, proving you are a ''man, proving how loyal they are to the gang. If you can kill an innocent person, a kid who has not even had the chance to experience the great things in life, you can kill anyone. In leaders eyes it's highly respected, and they feel you will live and die for that gang, with no in between. If you say you are gonna commit murder (initiation, etc) in a gang, and then renege, they will make sure whatever was planned for your target, is carried out even more brutally on yourself.
  11. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Jul 30, 2010 -> 06:43 AM) He is a 26 year old who couldn't make the Royals. Its about all you really need to know. To be fair he has been blocked. He is not taking playing time away from butler, who also just so happens to be their lone bright spot in the line-up. They are paying guillen 10 million, the royals of all teams. If guillen had a .600 ops, and kila ka'aihue was hitting the same way as he is now, you better believe they would still be trotting guillen out there daily. That's how organizations with such limited payrolls do business. They made the investment, they are all in, sink or swim.
  12. QUOTE (Jordan4life @ Jul 30, 2010 -> 02:45 AM) I can't even offer a rebuttal to this. Let me ask you this: Because of the huge hole created by Peavy's injury, for THIS season only, would you be content with Jackson? Because that's really my lone reasoning. The prospects of Garcia (big difference with him being your number 4 instead of your number 5) and Hudson scares the s*** outta me. Because even with an extra bat, It's doubtful we can top the Twins (not to mention the fact Mark Buehrle is more of a #4 starter himself). Why does it scare you? Does jackson scare you less due to ''experience''? We need hudson as we have zero depth in the starting staff looking forward. This cupboard has been run dry, We don't have a clue what we have on our hands with sale. Way too premature to tell anything noteworthy. He should not be in the starting rotation for the 2011 season, unless some horrendous things transpire. Even then, i have my doubts. If he does make the rotation, there better be a damn good fallback option(s). Garcia very well might command a tad more than the sox are willing to afford this off-season. Then we have hudson to slip in for peanuts for the next 3-4 seasons. This scenario would be nice considering if/when danks is given a new contract... he will command big money. That floyd extension is looking better and better by the day by the way. Let's say buehrle leaves after 2011, our 2012 rotation will still be expensive. Just danks, floyd, and peavy will be around 35 million alone in 2012. I see it like this though, if we are gonna be able to get through 4 years of linebrink, only two more years of peavy should be a breeze, then we can buy his ass out. 22 million, what a joke. Hudson has far more value to the white sox, given the circumstances, than he does elsewhere. If the system was not complete garbage, which i'm sorry it is, we would be having an entirely different discussion. There are only five guys in the entire system that are ever talked about. One is a former ped user, one is far too raw to get worked up about (danks), sale, (already gave my say on him) hudson, and for some reason brent morel?!?!? Morel will not sniff the major leagues, by that i mean sticking. I believe hudson and flowers will make it and stick. Sure, flowers first full season in triple-a season has been discouraging, but that is an aberration until proven other wise. It's very common actually. So many times a player stuggles his first go around in triple-a... only to go on to rake the second time around. I'm not counting his 31 games in triple-a last season. There is still a learning curve from double-a to triple-a that players experience when it's mid season, and the later on in the season, the worse a player produces to finish out the season (on average). I have seen studies on such. I would not be shocked if flowers has a nice rebound season next season, and in the show full time by 2012. Starter or backing up. With the the solid power he has, and the ability he has to take a walk, i envision him at least in the backup role. We can easily get similar production from hudson, if not better than jackson, this very season. Technically hudson should have the advantage over the league. Teams have such limited video in comparison, and the overall game plan of attack should be limited. He has only faced six teams, one of those was only for 2 innings (relief) and no more than 8 innings total for the other five other five teams. He has the stuff, he just needs to harness his control, and throw the right pitches given the count. He has failed in both aspects mightily thus far. If you wanted williams gone already, which you do, once the deal sunk in, you would want him gone even more so. For the record, i'm in favor of williams sticking around, he is one of the better general managers in the game, and we would only be worse off with someone else. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ I had to edit. At least let me know you read this. When things are long, people don't even bother to read it, which more than likely will be the case now. Sad world we live in. Thankfully i love reading.
  13. QUOTE (Soxy @ Jul 29, 2010 -> 02:47 PM) Best guess? Aggression is linked to physical discomfort or pain. It's why a wounded animal is more dangerous than a healthy one. So, we assume that heat is an aversive stimulus that may cause an increase in aggressive behavior. I'm not aware of anything that can actually demonstrate it's a causal relationship--but it's a pretty strong hypothesis. One of my favorite studies looked at the relationship between temperature and batters that were hit by a pitch. Batters were significantly more likely to get hit by a pitch when the temperature gets above 90. I would be very interested in the details behind that study. I have never seen something like it done before. QUOTE (SoxFan1 @ Jul 30, 2010 -> 02:09 AM) That's absolutely true and those who say otherwise are absolutely wrong. I've seen gang 1st hand that hasn't been reported on the news. And I have never, EVER heard the terms Latin Kings or GD's or anything of the sort on the news. It's easy for people to say that crime isn't an issue when they've never been jumped for no reason or they've never had their garage broken in to multiple times or they've never had cops drive around their neighborhood with spotlights between houses and in yards while helicopters are flying overhead or they don't hear gunshots once a week. I fully agree that a voluminous amount of gang violence is not reported. Practically nothing in the grand scheme of things. They just say enough to appease the masses. To be honest though, i watch a good deal of news on a daily basis, and 2-3 times per week i see specific gangs mentioned, some even lesser known than others. If there were a 24 hour news channel dedicated to strictly gangs, well, they still wouldn't be touching anything in the grand scheme of things. There is quite simply too wide of an array of things they have their hands into. For what it's worth, i know two people who had innocent friends die do to random shootings. The one kid was ten, doing nothing more than playing catch. The other kid was twelve, inside an enclosed porch (there was glass... which it of course went through). There was absolutely zero gang affiliation throughout both families. In both cases, said friends were witnesses. Cowards shall always be cowards, which is why they hide in packs. It really is a shame.
  14. Jackson is one of the biggest hyped prospects of this decade. Jackson is a serviceable starter in the majors leagues. That's it. Sure, he had a damn fine season last year, he also just so happened to throw a no-hitter this season. Worse pitchers have done both, thrown better seasons, and thrown no-hitters. I see no reason to get enamored over a big name player. Edwin jackson... big name player you say? Well, Edwin jackson may very well be the biggest name (hyped and lashed out at) out there in the game who has done the least. Since the average sox fan hates javier vazquez, a damn fine pitcher, (so he got paid, thank his agent, don't blame him) i would hope that same rage is also sent jackson's way. Jackson is no where near the caliber of pitcher vazquez. The reason i compare the them both is they are two of the biggest underachievers in the game.
  15. This makes the sox severely worse going forward. A trade like this would be a large knock against kenny williams and the upper brass. Trading hudson for a one and a third years for a terrible pitcher? I doubt he ever lives up to the hype he has always had surrounding him. Jackson would just about have to put up cy young winning numbers while we have him retained to even be remotely worth hudson. Reason being? If jackson pitched that well... he is booking with no hesitation. The flip side is he pitches mediocre to bad. If that were to be the case, which is highly likely based on his past, it was no contest, clearly a foolish one sided trade. Say hudson is just a four or five for the next 6 seasons. There is much value in cheap, dirt cheap, back of the rotation type starters. I can't see hudson being worse than a five era type guy, someone who just gives you a chance to win, on a decent basis. All that hudson has to do is be tiniest bit better, and he is already at jackson's level, far from hard for him to attain, from what i have seen, though there is much more room for improvement. That right there, is what makes hudson so valuable to a team like the white sox with so much invested in the rotation as is. Let's say garcia. We have been highly fortunate to have a fifth starter doing what he has done for us, which i have more than seen taken for granted this season. Swinging doors at the back of the rotation generally means a nightmare, the more tightly wound the rotation is, the better chance of success. This would arguably be the worst trade kenny williams has ever made, if it were to happen. I call baloney.
  16. Whenever i do sleep, as little as i do, i lucid dream on command. It may take someone years to learn their given techniques, while it may take another nothing more than a couple weeks. Some very gifted people can pick it up in as little as a day... but it's so slim and far between that it's not worth getting worried over. Take your time and it will come. Sleep paralysis is ancient, it goes back to the beginning of people. Everyone actually experiences sleep paralysis nightly. The thing is it's to such a small degree, and so foreign, that people don't even have a clue what they are going through. Some of the things you may experience is feeling/seeing the presence of the following, demons, djinn, witches, warlocks, goblins, aliens, trees, ghosts, indescribable creatures, and so on. With everyone of these, they are generally describe as being on ones chest, limiting breathing to the point it feels like you will all but suffocate, or they might be hovering over a person, strangling them. You will likely experience highly intense auditory hallucinations, which will likely be more bothersome than the visuals. If anyone has experienced deliriants (dumb spell check does not even acknowledge the word) you will likely know the type of auditory i'm talking about. Deliriants are a step past hallucinogenics, which i recommend to no one, i mean come on, just look at how terrible the word itself is. There can be an extremely positive side to sleep paralysis, which is not uncommon to reach, but if gone about wrong, it will get ugly fast, and you will be stuck for an extended period of time. You will be defenseless. If a person does not have a history of lucid dreaming, they have zero business attempting sleep paralysis. If anyone has any real interest in the dream world... dreamviews should just about have you covered. Countless tutorials on ways to achieve all sorts of things.
  17. I told you he was a troll. You don't necessarily have to intend on being a troll to be one. Sometimes these sort of things tend to have a way of happening, without knowledge of it. Whether it be, naivety, jejune, or whatever else you want to call it. Just because you don't know any better, doesn't make something right. What that is, is ignorance. Greg, your donation, while a very kind gesture, and i'm sure everyone appreciates it, should never have been brought up. You are better than no one. Donation or not. Same thing goes for everyone. Point is, no one wants a gift, and then have that gift held over them, like they owe that person who gave said gift, the world. You give someone something, that's that, done story, to be forgotten except by those who it affected. You are not a bigger fan, or man, because of your gesture. ''I'm not baiting anybody.'' Great one, greg. One of the biggest lies i have ever heard in my life. How about the 11,334 times you have baited someone? Yadda, yadda, ''just put me on ignore qwerty''! What is the point? Nearly every single post you make is so far out there, that people cannot help but respond, so it would be a lost cause. Generally greg, when someone is in the vast, and boy do i mean vast, minority, it means they are incorrect. As in not even close to the realm of being correct. This of course is not always the case. That is left to the absolute geniuses, those who are so ahead of their time, that others can't even comprehend what they mean. I'm gonna take a stab, and say that is not your particular case. I'm just sick of the level of discussion being brought down further, and further, with you being the ring leader of your circus of clowns. Am i right about everything i just said? Without a doubt. Does nearly every single daily poster/visitor think otherwise? Highly doubtful. Was it mean... but most importantly honest? You bet.
  18. QUOTE (iamshack @ Jul 24, 2010 -> 09:31 PM) Yes, probably, although they probably won't save as much as many will think at first. He's actually had a nice year this year, and while he certainly is not worth $15 million, an .875 OPS player to replace him probably won't come cheaply...My guess is it probably saves them somewhere in the realm of $4-5 million next year, if that. However, should they need to trade for someone to replace him this year, and pay for that guy too, they probably end of negating all of that money anyways. No team is handing ordonez 10 million plus dollars. The only way he will sniff that amount is in a two year deal. Ordonez will be 37 by the time spring comes along... and coming off of a pretty terrible injury. Ordonez, in general, at this point in his career is considered to be a pretty bad fielder. Though far from atrocious. The ankle injury will almost assuredly hamper him in the field. Thus, an already bad fielder, will likely be even worse (please no one bring up a half of a seasons worth of uzr, +/-, etc). That's not even accounting for his bat, and if it will be the same again... at an already advanced stage in his career. If he was 28, i would say sure, not as much of a worry, but nearly ten years worth of wear is a ton in comparison. I would be shocked if ordonez is given anymore than 7 a season. A one year deal with an team option seems most likely to myself. A strict one year deal can't be written off either. Incentives would be included either way... with a player in his situation. I'm fully putting into account the nice season ordonez has had himself.
  19. Looking further ahead... this very well might be a blessing for the tigers.
  20. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jul 24, 2010 -> 05:06 PM) I'm still uncomfortable with the "10 runs = 1 win" calculation, but as a method of comparison there...it's a good way to guess at how the values of a 5th starter versus a big DH compare. I have seen you say this multiple times now. S*** was just not thrown at the wall... and then people walked by and just let it stick there. I suggest you look up exactly why the number is, what the number is, otherwise you will not grasp it and always be in doubt.
  21. QUOTE (fathom @ Jul 24, 2010 -> 04:26 PM) I wanted Pena in...I just want to see him pitch a little better, and the biggest knock on him is that he hangs too many sliders despite his good fastball. This year, and for pena's career, his slider has been far and away his best pitch. As good as his slider was last season... his fastball was equally as terrible. His change is also significantly better than his fastball.
