Galarraga perfect game broken up by umpire
QUOTE (SoxAce @ Jun 3, 2010 -> 01:38 AM) Well I agreed with TRU in a sense is I just hate Detroit. I hate everything about the city, fans, sports teams, etc. I find it hilarious that it happened to them. Now with that said, I will definitely root for Gallarraga through-out his career unless he is playing us. Gets screwed over, and was nothing but class about it. I respect that alot. Rooting for armando galarraga while he is with the tigers... or any team in the division for that matter... is rooting against the sox... in my book anyway. Can it not come back to bite the white sox in the ass? It may not appear that way while it's happening, but it is more than a feasibility. Rooting for anyone to succeed in your teams division on any given night has never made sense to me.... i'm always hoping for an 0- for the season effort by everyone... at all times. No one better question my love for the game of baseball, because they would be complete and utter fools. The other way around is foolish (wishing the best for players on a division rival to succeed). Joe mauer, while a great player, i wish nothing but the worst possible for him, day in, day out. Every division, and especially those in the national league, make, break, and do as much crazy s*** as possible. I love it.

QUOTE (fathom @ Jun 2, 2010 -> 03:59 PM) And to be honest, it's not like he's coming close to beating out most of them. Since 2007 he has attempted 140 bunts for a hit and registered a hit only 36 times... good for 26%. For his entire career he is at 35%. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jun 2, 2010 -> 04:03 PM) That suggests he's doing a poor job of placing the ball, not that he's lost a step, which seems correct to me also. While still having extremely good speed, pierre has indeed lost a step or more... in just the past few seasons. It was a common complaint of dodgers fans that pierre has lost a step of speed in the past few years... if not more... and i will take their word for it. From his heyday it's even more severe. Not everyone is ichiro and seemingly never loses a step. I will agree that his bunted ball placement has been poor thus far.

QUOTE (Kalapse @ Jun 2, 2010 -> 02:54 PM) Juan Pierre is 3 for 17 on bunts this season. It's just bizarre that a player like him would be positively wretched on bunts. It's always annoyed me that baseball reference and fangraphs don't correlate at all times (most) when it comes to bunt hits/attempts. But then again the differential in what each site considers a infield hit is rather ridiculous, so it can easily be expected. Anyway, i would not expect the 64% succession rate taveras put up in 2007 to be eclipsed anytime soon. Out of anyone with more than 20 bunt hits in a season since 1959 only three times has that rate been eclipsed. 1979 - Frank Taveras - 28 - 23 - .821 1980 Frank Taveras - 24 - 21 -.875 1964 Don Blasingame - 23 - 20 -.870 Bunts and infield hits for that matter have been tracked terribly throughout the history of the game... the further things are dated... there are just that many more grains of salt that come with it.

Roy Halladay throws a perfect game!
289 different times a cycle has been hit for... 247 of those have come since the modern era which began in 1900. There have officially been 265 no-hitters thrown... 223 of which have come since the modern era. Only 20 perfect games have been thrown in baseball history... 18 of those since the modern era. There was once a 33 year gap between perfect games for a reason.

Joe West has an agenda
QUOTE (IlliniKrush @ May 27, 2010 -> 09:46 PM) Qwerty, that wasn't showing displeasure with an umpire. That was pissed at himself. You're comparing apples and oranges here. Nyjer Morgan threw his glove the other day during play and let up an inside the park home run. Not a comparison because the umps could care less about those. No apples and oranges being compared here. Rule 9.01 (d) http://mlb.mlb.com/mlb/downloads/y2008/off..._the_umpire.pdf The example i gave with lilly sure as hell fits the description of unsportsmanlike conduct, regardless if the umpire was the reason the glove was thrown or not.

Joe West has an agenda
QUOTE (IlliniKrush @ May 27, 2010 -> 09:07 PM) Regardless of whether it was a balk, tossing your glove like that will get you tossed 100% of the time. So, MB deserved to get tossed for his actions. To those of you who think a letter high strike should be called...wow. You want 1-0 baseball games and .200 averages, you got it. You can't hit 95 MPH pitches at the freaking letters. There's a reason that's not called. You can drop your hands and have a better chance hitting a knee/below the knee pitch than you do anywhere up there. That's ridiculous thinking. Plus, over the history of the game, with all the changing of the strike zone via the rule book and the strike zone, every year the MLB average has been around .260. Seems like they know that they are doing in that regard. This couldn't be further from the truth. You may not like a call or two in a particular game, but all the stats, now that you have Questec, says they are all calling about the same zone, day in and day out. Most umpires score over 95% every game. Those who aren't don't stay around very long. If anything, you used to have control over "your" strike zone back in the day. Anyone else remember Eric Gregg/Livan Hernandez? You don't see anything close to that whatsoever right now. That's not way back in the day, granted, but it's still before Questec. It's not a 100% guarantee, playoffs or regular season. http://sports.espn.go.com/mlb/playoffs2007...&id=3049925 I will agree with you that the ejection was the right call though, regardless if it was a balk or not.

AND THAT'S A WHITE SOX WINNER!!!
QUOTE (greg775 @ May 26, 2010 -> 06:01 PM) I personally wouldn't mind seeing Thornton close some games. I wouldn't be mad if the 2 flip flopped roles. I'm not dead set wanting Bobby to close. I just don't understand the concern on days we win and he gets the final out even if he gives up runs before that final out. You can take positives and negatives away from pretty much every game ever played. It's unfair to reserve judgment only for losses. That is a terrible mindset. Being level headed is the way to go, a happy medium if you will. But no, you rather go all out after a loss, ranting and raving, hating on whoever is your whipping boy(s) is at the time... while rarely giving credit to anyone who deserves it. If you do give credit in a loss it's to about one player. I would be in agreement that not many deserve credit this season. But it's not about just this season. This has been going on since the beginning of time. You have certain players that you rag on consistently and do everything in your power to stay consistent with your views. No matter how irrational it may be. Nothing changes your mind. Ever. But whenever someone even remotely criticizes a favorite of yours you throw a s*** fit? How i see it you are stuck in your ways i'm afraid. Jenks has been nothing short of brutal, despite the saves, everything indicates such. Jenks has purely gotten lucky to get a save in 7 of 8. He has only thrown 56% of first pitches for strikes, down 7% from his career totals. He is also down 3% in overall strike percentage. To put it simple every single one of following stats (which i realize is foreign to you) is either up or down from his career percentages... O-Swing% - Z-Swing% - Swing% - O-Contact% -Z-Contact% -Contact% Zone% - F-Strike% - SwStr%. Everyone of those stats are also up from his 2009 season other than a measly 0.2% @ O-Swing%. A grand total of 0 pitches that he throws has gone for a positive value this season. Jenks has gotten smoked, as 26% of his pitches have been hit for line drives, while 19% is roughly league average. Something has to be done, as this has been occurring now since the second half of last season. Bobby jenks did not start pitching terrible overnight. A move has to be made, no questions asked. Whether a move is made for the short term or long term i don't care. He might figure things out in another role, then again he might not. All that i know is he is no longer deserving of his role which is so vital to this teams success.

QUOTE (Jenksy Cat @ May 26, 2010 -> 02:27 PM) Actually you agree with me then. All I'm saying is not a single person here or any other fan can claim to know what the "players feel", so using that as an argument for or against any player is pointless. I just reread your conversation with northside. You believe the opposite of myself. You don't think chemistry has a big impact either way, and i believe it potentially could. As i said, i disagree. Northside's point, and mine, is only logical. Emotions are very real. I don't ''know'' as you said, but i base my belief off of the average human beings emotions. Players bring their emotions up to the plate every at-bat, to the field every inning, there is no way around it coming into play.

QUOTE (docsox24 @ May 26, 2010 -> 02:14 PM) whats more f'd up than a teammate sleeping with your mom? thats pretty strange to me It's indeed strange, but at the end of the day they are both adults and she had to give her consent. She apparently wanted it. If anything lebron should be more pissed off at this mother, after all, she is his mother. If sleeping with someone's mother was the strangest, kookiest thing out there in the world, this would be a pretty pleasant world, in the grand scheme of things.

QUOTE (Jenksy Cat @ May 26, 2010 -> 02:00 PM) And I've never bought that there is this massive Chemistry Stat that makes a huge impact on how a team plays. If a team is winning, they have great chemistry, if they suck, their chemistry sucks? Its stupid I would fully disagree. None of us know the behind the scenes scenarios. Such as who slept with who, it could range from a sister, wife, or mom. People tend to get out of hand due to a drunken outrage and say things that shouldn't be said, and it could be regarding anything. The closest of friends for years can absolutely despise one another due to a disagreement, sides are taken, s*** talking behind backs are said, etc, etc. Just a bit like real life.
