  1. QUOTE (JorgeFabregas @ Apr 17, 2010 -> 04:02 PM) I don't question that they would start Berkman. The question is whether they would start Pierre or Jones. All will depends on productivity at that point. Couldn't even give you the slightest bit of an answer as it's just too early. Hopefully jones will warrant the playing time, as he has the ability to help this team much more than pierre.
  2. QUOTE (JorgeFabregas @ Apr 17, 2010 -> 02:13 PM) If the White Sox picked up a DH/1B type like Berkman, would Ozzie do the smart thing and bench Pierre? Or do you think they're married to the idea of a traditional lead-off hitter? I doubt they would put a newly acquired berkman on the bench in favor of pierre. Berkman is one few of the elite players hitters in the mlb, but he seemingly does it quietly. The line-up would be significantly improved, with a chance to actually be dangerous. Dh berkman, and put jones and pierre in left, they would essentially become a platoon. It really matter who leads off with considering how much berkman upgrades this team. A ''bad'' berkman would still very likely be our teams best hitter.
  3. QUOTE (flavum @ Apr 16, 2010 -> 03:28 PM) Not sure. Maybe Freddy will just be gone. Maybe they'll dump Williams and not have two lefties. Maybesomebody will be on the DL. I just don't think Hudson will be held up if he pitches great in AAA. If he's ready, he'll be up. If there is just one thing that is a sure thing when it comes to a team ozzie guillen manages... it's that there will always be two lefties in the pen... and one will generally be awful. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- I give garcia anywhere from 50-80 innings before hudson comes up. I envision hudson being vital to the white sox success this season. We are still gonna need a bat this season, i'm convinced. Lance berkman is gonna look mighty good in a white sox uniform.

QUOTE (GoodAsGould @ Apr 16, 2010 -> 10:53 PM) Umm you definitely missed something, not sure how you missed it either lol. Rather than typing out ''lol'' you could have just answered him.
  5. Gamethreads have always and will always suck. You see what i did there? I gave gamethreads a compliment.
  6. QUOTE (Jordan4life @ Apr 15, 2010 -> 01:41 PM) Except Javy has a track record of Steve's assessment that goes WAYYYYYYY beyond his first two starts. You would think Sox fans would understand this better than anybody. Javy is going to get skinned alive in NY. He really shouldn't, but in new york, they really get on your ass. How i see it he was signed to be their fourth starter. When it is all said and done he will provide them with what they were looking to get out of him, pretty certain anyway.
  7. QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Apr 15, 2010 -> 12:45 PM) A Hall of Fame pick off move as well as great defense help his case. If runners were able to steal off of him effectively, his career numbers would not look nearly as good, but because it almost always (like 99% of the time) takes 2 singles to score a runner from first against him, he cuts down on runs. 38 times second base has been stolen against him and 52 times runners have been thrown out at second. Only three attempts against him to steal third and two were successful. He has also had home stolen against him once. So in total he holds stolen bases to 42% and league average is right around 70%. That is remarkable. He has 70 pickoffs to go along with 37 pickoffs while caught stealing. Jose contreras has averaged 20.4 stolen bases against of second base in his career compared to buehrle's 3.8. Buehrle is decent you could say.
  8. QUOTE (Jenksy Cat @ Apr 15, 2010 -> 10:39 AM) Sorry sir, but taking him seriously when he says something like that makes you a moran. Ha. Look who is the ''moran'' now.
  9. QUOTE (DBAHO @ Apr 15, 2010 -> 08:21 AM) Thought he said when he got hired that he didn't want another job in baseball if he got let go from this position. It's almost as if the writing is on the wall if this team doesn't perform this season. I remember him saying such also. QUOTE (Ranger @ Apr 15, 2010 -> 09:56 AM) Message board mentality is certainly fascinating. As is the radio.
  10. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Apr 15, 2010 -> 09:21 AM) One can always hope that if he keeps this up he'll play his way into being a type B free agent. I think andruw jones is gonna be a good player for us. But he is not gonna be a type B after this season. Jones needs to be in the top 40% in these five categories (which will follow) over the past two seasons of play...and he will be no where close... no matter what he does this season. He only had 331 plate appearances, an average of .217, 60 rbi's, 17 homers, .323 obp. He would have to have a season like he had in 2000 to have a shot, which is not gonna happen.

QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Apr 15, 2010 -> 08:43 AM) And I disagree quite significantly. Just a tiny bit of sarcasm on my part... My view of podsednik had been well stated since the day he was brought in via trade. I am easily one of the top five podsednik bashers (for good reason), but i have given up talking about him much the last couple years. Only capn and kalapse compare, fathom does not like anyone... so he doesn't count. Jphat who once highly disliked the man is now apparently infatuated. I personally hate to even look at podsednik. Something about him irks me.

QUOTE (greg775 @ Apr 15, 2010 -> 12:16 AM) Don't we agree he's a good basestealer? He just had some brain lapses when he got picked off. As Ranger would say, those pickoffs didn't make or break us ultimately. Terrific post. I agree entirely.
  13. The conversation at wsi is in no way superior to soxtalk. I mean, i just checked it out, and the best term to describe it over there would be ''abominable''. I know you guys like to be civil with them... but it's absolutely whack over there. It gave me a headache dammit.
  14. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Apr 15, 2010 -> 08:03 AM) There's a big difference between being a great pitching coach and a great manager. There's a reason why very few people go that route. Pitching coaching is all about knowing technique, throwing schedules, forms, etc. Managers on the other hand are handling personalities. Yes. I realize this. Common sense. It's not unheard of for a person who was at one point a pitching coach to become a manager. It can happen... and it does. If it bothers you that much then cooper's name can be switched with anyone else in the world... and the point i made still stands. Fans are just not satisfied with anyone, no matter how qualified they are.
  15. I don't think you would see anyone complain (initially) if cooper were to one day become the sox manager. Once the season starts though, it's fair game, and he would get ripped to shreds just like every other coach/manager in sports. It's just how sports work. In the eyes of the average sports fan... there is no good coach/manager. You can go to any forum out there and people are calling for every coach/managers heads... even the best of teams. Red sox fans f***ing hate francona and he was apart of two world series. Whenever i need a good laugh or two i check out sons of sam horn... i recommend it to anyone.
  16. QUOTE (sayitaintso @ Apr 15, 2010 -> 01:58 AM) It actually was Javier not Jose, not to far off, and he was listed pitching for the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim of California of the West Coastal Region of the United States on thebaseballcube.com, but on milb.com he was listed as pitching with the Red Sox, but I couldn't find accurate stats for him. They screwed up on baseball cube. The stats are correct under ''other pitching statistics'' but they should have him listed being on the pirates rather than the angels... lopez was in camp with the pirates all spring. In 2007 lopez got hit hard by lefties .293/.366/.439 (93 plate appearances) compared to .176 /.300/.265 in 81 plate appearances. In 2008 it was an entirely different story. Lefties hit him to the tune of .182/.305/.282 (131 plate appearances) compared to .311/.365/.453 against righties in 116 plate appearances.
  17. Both this thread and the chat are awfully slow. People must have gotten really depressed due to the game yesterday.
  18. The chat is better than this thread could ever imagine. The chat is better than this thread could ever imagine. The chat is better than this thread could ever imagine.
  19. It takes a mighty creative mind to think up the titles of the game thread i have seen the last two days.
  20. QUOTE (Thunderbolt @ Apr 12, 2010 -> 02:01 PM) Especially, becasue Hardy is fast and could easily steal a base. Hardy has stolen five bases in 578 games.
