  1. QUOTE (BearSox @ May 27, 2009 -> 09:42 AM) The thing about Oswalt is that he is 30-31 and doesn't seem to be the same pitcher he used to be. I'm sure for us, he could be really solid, but that's a lot of money for a really solid pitcher who will be leaving his prime soon. Check out oswalts first half and second half numbers from last season. He looks to be far from done to me, and what i have been hearing. Oswalt has been overthrowing his fastball and especially his curveball the entire season and therefore missing his spots. The 11 homeruns oswalt has given up this season, in only 62.1 innings pitched, would be more discouraging if not for how oswalt performed in the second half last season. Last season oswalt threw 23 homeruns, 5 more than his previous career, out of those 23 only 5 came in the second half. He is hands down one of the very best pitchers in the game.

    QUOTE (BearSox @ May 27, 2009 -> 09:44 AM) I am usually right.
  3. First time ramirez has ever walked three times in a game.
  4. Good calls at second. I really like when an ump does not call the out based on the ball being there before the runner. 80% of the time both ramirez are called out... especially getz.
  5. QUOTE (fathom @ May 26, 2009 -> 10:55 PM) Damn, Abreu just kills us. That was a really, really bad 0-2 pitch. His 1.213 ops (before tonight) against us is his highest against any team he has faced.
  6. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ May 26, 2009 -> 10:47 PM) The Angels have 3 hits in 6 innings against Colon. They probably need to fire their hitting coach. The ways people amuse themselves.
  7. Here comes the '' nix should play everyday'' line.
  8. QUOTE (BobDylan @ May 22, 2009 -> 01:32 PM) I'm gonna post a temporary chat server for us: http://mike.westernave.net/chat/chatroom.html If you use Firefox, it is possible you'll have to download this plugin: https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/ad...cy/0/5403/18716 Last, it is an IRC channel, so you can use your client of choice. Server: irc.wyldryde.org Channel: #SoxTalk.com (irc://irc.wyldryde.org/SoxTalk.com) EDIT: If you use Pidgin as your IM client and want to set it up to run this IRC chatroom, PM me and I'll give you instructions. You have nothing else better to do... don't kid yourself.

    Knee-jerk reaction. If podsednik were to have reached base 0, 1, or 2 times yesterday, compared to the six that he did, (four base hits) this thread is not created. A complete and utter aberration had to take place (podsednik has never once in his career reached base six times in a single game) for this thread to come to light. Podsednik's baseball reference page needs a sponsor, they are asking $30. World series hereos have to worth that much, at least i would have to think.
  10. Danny richar broke up clay buchholz's no hitter in the ninth inning of their aaa game this past night. I found this interesting.
  11. QUOTE (shipps @ May 25, 2009 -> 10:58 PM) Pirates closer Capps took a wicked line shot from Soto off his arm and had to leave the game. He had to have broke something from the way that looked. No break/fracture according to x-rays.
  12. 17 is not 20. Get back to me when they reach that number.
  13. This is the best place i figured i could put this since fields has the second most at-bats out of anyone that qualifies... The white sox have the distinct honor of being the only team in baseball to have two players with more strikeouts than total bases in 50 or more AB so far #Brent Lillibridge, CHW - 68 AB, 13 TB, 21 SO # Edwin Encarnacion, CIN - 63 AB, 12 TB, 19 SO # Jordan Schafer, ATL - 129 AB, 41 TB, 49 SO # B.J. Upton, TBR - 141 AB, 38 TB, 44 SO # Cameron Maybin, FLA - 84 AB, 26 TB, 31 SO # Josh Fields, CHW - 133 AB, 41 TB, 43 SO # Travis Ishikawa, SFG - 91 AB, 26 TB, 29 SO # Ramon Vazquez, PIT - 59 AB, 13 TB, 15 SO # Jeff Mathis, LAA - 58 AB, 16 TB, 18 SO # Kelly Shoppach, CLE - 66 AB, 26 TB, 27 SO # Rob Johnson, SEA - 63 AB, 18 TB, 19 SO
  14. QUOTE (Wanne @ May 22, 2009 -> 12:30 AM) That's why I say just stick Nix over there for a week or so and see what happens. Josh is absolutely clueless right now...and he looks wound tighter than a drum. Bet....meh. Go with Nix already. Nix will make us long for another replacement just as quick as fields. Nix is nothing special with the bat in the slightest, realistically of course.
  15. QUOTE (Molto @ May 21, 2009 -> 04:46 PM) If it's because the Sox don't want to pick up the option, it's not a bad thing. If a guy who's making millions needs a more millions to play in a league he doesn't want to play in, then it's a good thing. Why would you want a player whose only reason for being on your team is extra cash? This is one of the primpary reasons i said it's a blessing in disguise.
  16. Blessing in disguise.
  17. There is a quote out there that peavy said he watched the entire 20-1 game today and that's why he rejected the deal? Any one see it yet? Please post it when you do.
  18. QUOTE (Krivanka @ May 21, 2009 -> 03:47 PM) Yeah I'm surprised the mods even allowed that. But anyway, that was a whole different me ago. Now lets stay on topic before this gets locked, I see the board has some backseat moderators (qwerty) I'll keep my mind open to more ignorance in the future. I have now seen the light, thanks boo.
  19. No. Close thread.
  20. QUOTE (Brian @ May 21, 2009 -> 02:13 PM) I miss all the fun. http://i39.tinypic.com/2nls8y.jpg http://i41.tinypic.com/14ljacx.jpg
  21. QUOTE (BobDylan @ May 21, 2009 -> 02:00 PM) I put together a new one and sent it to Jason. Didn't know he'd take the old one down this soon. We have once more been gaged.
  22. Posednik has been picked off three consecutive days, and i do not care that he took second two of the times. It's inexcusable. He also just got doubled off first with the bases loaded, there is no reason to be that far off the bag with the bases loaded and zero outs. f*** face.
  23. Is the chat disabled?
  24. QUOTE (Rooftop Shots @ May 20, 2009 -> 11:14 PM) Not sure about the facts, but I once heard that Ryan's average pitch count per game was 150 plus. Don't know if it is just here-say or if there is any truth to it. The only thing that I found was a quote that said, if they took Ryan out of the game with today's standardizing of pitch counts, that he would be out by the 3rd or 4th inning. Not even close. Though on june 14th 1974 it's estimated that he 259 pitches in 13 innings against the red sox. He walked 10 and struck out 19 while facing 58 batters in total. The more conservative estimate is 232 pitches. Luis tiant went 14.1 inning while facing 56 batters. He ended up losing. http://www.baseball-reference.com/boxes/CA...197406140.shtml Random notes: Tim Wakefield once threw 158 pitches in a game...while setting and currently holding the record most strikes without recording a strikeout...103. http://www.baseball-reference.com/boxes/CH...199606100.shtml ================================================================================ Schilling once threw 114 pitches in this game, and 94 went for strikes. Those 94 strikes are the most ''ever'' throw with a pitch count of less than 120. He gave up 14 hits, 9 runs, 8 of which were earned. http://www.baseball-reference.com/boxes/CO...200209200.shtml
  25. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ May 19, 2009 -> 09:08 PM) Can Fields bunt? Oh he can, and he just did.
