  1. QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Jul 4, 2009 -> 05:45 AM) Albert Pujols is so good that he is even leading the Cardinals in stolen bases. He is also so good that right after the all-star break people will really start questioning his chances at the triple crown. Pujols will achieve the feat this season.
  2. QUOTE (hammerhead johnson @ Jul 6, 2009 -> 12:56 AM) LOL at Scott Podsednik even being in the conversation. I don't know whether to laugh or cry. I still can't believe that dude has a starting gig. Mexsoxfan#2 beat me to it seconds before i posted it, but... Inevitably you are gonna get ripped for talking down about the almighty. Several times. Possibly even more.
  3. QUOTE (jphat007 @ Jul 4, 2009 -> 02:52 PM) Ah well. It was a good run and it got us back in it. Time to start a new one tomorrow. My ass. Season is over. We beat ourselves today afterall.
  4. QUOTE (Jenks Heat @ Jul 4, 2009 -> 02:44 PM) What may have been an interesting ninth is now pointless. Because two runs (three to win) to tie have never been scored in the history on baseball in the ninth inning.
  5. QUOTE (Jordan4life @ Jul 4, 2009 -> 02:11 PM) Between Tejada, Colon, Cruz and Soria, the Royals might lead the league in BP guys that routinely hit 95 MPH with their fastball. Soria throws nowhere near 95. For his career his fastball velocity is merely 91.
  6. QUOTE (Princess Dye @ Jul 4, 2009 -> 01:02 PM) The numbers were real misleading No movement on the fastball and nothing but the fastball His two seem was dancing all over the place for the majority of his starts this season. His four seam is what had nothing on it.
  7. QUOTE (Stocking @ Jul 4, 2009 -> 06:52 AM) By your own words, its average then. Mediocre and Average are two seperate words with two different meanings. I dont get how you can statistically show BA being an average defender then in the same breath call him mediocre. While a lot of us are fanboys of BA and do overrate his D, you are just hating. He is in the middle, average. Interesting. Mediocre can mean below average, but it can of course mean average. Mediocre definitions: ''Not very high quality; average or second rate''. ''Of average to below average quality''. Poor to middling in quality; "there have been good and mediocre and bad artists"... middling seems rather average to me. Synonyms for middling? Average, mediocre, moderate, ordinary... etc. lacking exceptional quality or ability; "a novel of average merit"; "only a fair performance of the sonata"; "in fair health"; "the caliber of the students has gone from mediocre to above average"; "the performance was middling at best" ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Simply put, you had no argument, yet wanted to chime in, and then you question someone's grammar without having proper knowledge of how a specific word can be used. At the very least i would have made 100% sure i was correct before ''correcting'' another individual in that regard. QUOTE (lostfan @ Jul 4, 2009 -> 09:57 AM) In 2006 IIRC his defensive metrics were through the roof. He hasn't repeated it since then. Still, compared to the other trash we've had out there, he really does look like an elite CF sometimes. Mediocre = below average btw. He was a plus defender in 2006, nothing exceptional. His arm, which was in the bottom third of all center fielders, is what held him back.
  8. QUOTE (danman31 @ Jul 4, 2009 -> 03:19 AM) He's far from mediocre on defense. After nearly 2000 innings (essentially a full season and a half) in the field anderson's career numbers literally hover right around the league average in every defensive metric known to man. If that is not mediocre, then i don't know what is.
  9. QUOTE (klaus kinski @ Jul 3, 2009 -> 04:30 PM) Defense in CF wins games I have never seen someone so mediocre defensively, in any sport, get praised as much as he does. The kicker? People think he is a gold glove caliber defender.
  10. QUOTE (chisoxfan09 @ Jul 4, 2009 -> 01:26 AM) I am trying to spur some debate about either the current roster or within the past 5-10 years as to who has been our best homegrown infielder that had great offensive/defensive fundamentals but did not change positions at all. It seems our current crop (to include 1st base candidates) is very good but most of the 2B/SS/3B players have moved around a lot in an effort to find them the right place to play. Any thoughts? Clearly crede is the only candidate. Even he would not count if his rookie ball through winston salem fielding numbers scare you off.
  11. QUOTE (whitesoxbrian @ Jul 3, 2009 -> 11:13 PM) The Royals took Alex Gordon in the 2005 draft instead of: Ryan Zimmerman Ryan Braun Andrew McCutchen Lance Broadway Chris Volstad Jacoby Ellsbury (so did we) Colby Rasmus (so did we) The Royals took Luke Hochevar 1st overall in 2006 instead of: Evan Longorgia Clayton Keshaw Tim Lincecum Max Scherzer Joba Chamberlain (so did we) So, it's the front office there that's the problem. The sox passed on pujols 13 times. Buffoons.
  12. Never ceases to amaze me how poor the quality of posts in pale hose can be.
  13. QUOTE (whitesoxbrian @ Jul 2, 2009 -> 03:32 PM) Anderson hit in the 6 hole in Cincinnati all 3 games, if I'm not mistaken. He had a hit or 2 in each game, I believe. He batted 7th in the first game and got one hit, batted 5th the second game and got two hits, in the third game he batted 5th and got one hit.
  14. QUOTE (Milkman delivers @ Jul 2, 2009 -> 10:15 AM) Holy crap, whoever said Karl Malden was right. He died at some point yesterday. A great actor, RIP. Though i could be mistaken, i believe he was dead at that point in time. Right after that post i kept seeing his death reported left and right.
  15. Current sox players only have 42 at-bats (very small number) him with a .357 batting average against for a .1068 ops. His last year with any significant time in the league was 2006 (was out of the league entirely in 2008) in which he gave up 28 home runs in only 98.2 innings, good for a 2.6 home runs per 9 innings. Expect a couple home runs tomorrow for the sox.
  16. QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ Jul 2, 2009 -> 07:36 AM) Didnt he have the same hip surgery ARod had? Same doctor also.
  17. QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ Jul 2, 2009 -> 07:23 AM) How long until Alex Gordon comes off the DL? I thought this was going to be his breakout year Looks like wednesday at the latest.
  18. Hard to believe his whip currently stands at 1.27 considering how brutal he was in his first six starts of the season. Another encouraging thing is he has thrown over 100 pitches (no one else on the staff can say that) in each of his last five starts... along with 37.1 innings pitched which is the most out of any other starter of ours in that time span. Buehrle has thrown 33, danks 34, and floyd with 35.1. He will only be offered at contract (one year deal) at seasons end ifhe can put up respectable numbers from here on out. To think a contract would be offered to him at any point during the remainder of this season seems downright silly to me.

I am currently watching ''public enemies/gangster of film'' on tmc. ''An examination of the crime-film genre zeroes in on warner brothers studio productions that made stars out of james cagney, humphrey bogart, edward g robinson'' Excellent documentary on a genre that will likely never be the same (gangster-crime) showcasing three simply fantastic actors.
  20. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jul 1, 2009 -> 09:49 PM) I remember getting Sullivan from Cincy. Is that not right? Yes, we traded hummel for him.
  21. This is only the sox second sweep of the season, their first was on may 29th-may 31st against the royals. Both sweeps have occurred on the road.
  22. QUOTE (JohnCangelosi @ Jul 1, 2009 -> 07:49 PM) I am NOT complaining! However, when we see something good, like we all knew in ST, why put it back into AA?? Pointless. I don't want us to be making the same mistakes, that's all. I think KW has this team very well situated for a second half run.... ''We all'' did not know a damn thing at that point. ''We'' may have speculated what he could do, but nothing was factual. Not many teams bring up their best prospect with only 63 single A ball plate appearances along with 39 spring training plate appearances. Beckham and fields had four errors in spring, though one had half the playing time the other received. Beckham would be the correct answer to who had half the playing time the other received. Every other organization would have handled him the same way the sox went about it. Better players than gordon beckham have/will be handled the same way, if not work on their game for even longer. Beckham's game is far from complete, since you can evaluate talent so well, you should have known this for over a year now. Many other organizations would have kept him down for even longer than to get work in defensively, but the sox hands were truly forced, hence here he is.
  23. QUOTE (JohnCangelosi @ Jul 1, 2009 -> 07:45 PM) Well, you OBVIOUSLY don't understand talent when you see it. Frank was clearly a talent in 1990 and so is Beckham. To even bring in Viciedo into this conversation is silly. You got me. Damn.

  25. QUOTE (JohnCangelosi @ Jul 1, 2009 -> 07:22 PM) As everyone knows, Hawk has been critical of McDowell's article regarding Beckham's development, but this whole thing makes me think...why the F&CK do we disregard PERFORMANCE in spring training and in the regular season from rookies??? I am sorry, but Beckham is the real deal and should have been on the roster from day 1. I realize there are issues with arbitration etc, but still. Nonsense. Let's put the best team on the field. Secondly, why are we batting our hottest hitter at 8 or 9??? Are we "protecting" him?? This is complete nonsense. For those of you old enough to remember, we "protected" the Big Hurt back in 1990 by having him spend a meaningless 4 months in the minors even though he hit .400 in spring training and tore the cover off the ball. MAKES NO SENSE to me. It's a joke and someone should challenge this mentality of "not wanting to destroy someone's confidence" etc. Too bad. Gordon is stronger than you think, there is NO FREAKING NEED to protect him. Joke. Bat him at #2 or 3. Ok, so I welcome comments. And yes, I had a few drinks tonight! There have only been twenty players since 1965, when the draft began, that went straight from being drafted to the major leagues and never looking back. Believe it or not there is a very valid reason. Frank thomas had 240 at-bats in 1989 in the minors, 240 very mediocore at-bats. Those 240 at-bats>>> 70 or less at-bats he may have received in spring training. Those four months were far from meaningless. The sox wanted to assure themselves what exactly they had on their hands, and it couldn't have worked out any better. The sox went the same route with beckham, and it couldn't have worked out any better. Were you one of the many that wanted viciedo to start on the major league team? I would not doubt it. Sometimes people just complain for the sake of complaining, it's f***ing weird.
