  2. QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Sep 8, 2009 -> 01:06 AM) Yeah, I think pretty much anyone could have told you that. Actually, i just had to look up what obp and slg meant.
  3. It's not exactly cool... but both smoke 5 packs of cigarettes a day.
  4. QUOTE (League @ Sep 7, 2009 -> 06:28 AM) Just because a player played well in the 2005 post-season doesn't magically morph them into some demi-god of baseball. Crede was a below-average offensive 3rd baseman with a plus glove. Was he a good player for us? Yes. Stop treating him like he's Pujols or something, people. I don't think the two of you have been properly introduced yet.
  5. Threads like this is why i do not post for months on end.
  6. QUOTE (iamshack @ Sep 5, 2009 -> 02:47 PM) Honestly, I don't think it's fair to judge the guy's predictions versus Pecota. He is not paid to be a statistical model. He is paid to give his own particularly interesting opinions and predictions about teams. Does Pecota suck then because it was way off in predicting the White Sox? QUOTE (qwerty @ Sep 3, 2009 -> 03:44 PM) In general steve phillips is about as bad as it gets... and that is way before accounting these articles. http://vegaswatch.net/2007/09/evaluating-a...redictions.html http://vegaswatch.net/2008/09/evaluating-a...tions-2008.html

  8. QUOTE (knightni @ Aug 30, 2009 -> 05:22 PM) I'd be fine with a 65 mil payroll and a few years of 75 to 85 wins as long as it builds the minors. Wins and losses have very, very little to do with building the minors. I cannot stress enough how little it matters. First off it comes down to which teams are better off at being able to evaluate talent, and secondly being able to mold that given talent.
  9. QUOTE (kapkomet @ Aug 27, 2009 -> 09:36 AM) With crisco. Yo! noid is a great game for what it's worth.

    See ya around.
  11. No need for everyone to show so much emotion at once, take your turn in line.

If a hitting coach serves no purpose i cannot see why every team has one. I wonder why they have been around the game of baseball as long as they have. Boggles my mind.
  13. Sure are persistent.
  14. elrockinMT is 58.
  15. Converation is pale hose is getting slightly better as of recent. Good to see.
  16. Almost a year ago now i could have told you it was never happening.
  17. QUOTE (Thunderbolt @ Aug 18, 2009 -> 05:23 PM) I think the majority of people on this board underestimates just how good Jayson Nix is right now, and just how good he could be. The fact is Nix is flat-out out-hitting Chris Getz. This was true in spring before Nix went down with injury, and it's true again now. Nix had six hits, three of which were doubles, for a .462 average (LIKE OMG .1255 ops) in 13 spring at-bats. Getz had the third most at-bats out of all white sox players this past spring with 75. Getz hit .333 for a .830 ops. QUOTE (bighurt574 @ Aug 18, 2009 -> 05:28 PM) Firstly? It's a word.
  18. QUOTE (Friend of Nordhagen @ Aug 16, 2009 -> 05:41 PM) Another sleepwalk on another getaway day. This will sound mildly ridiculous, but it wouldn't surprise me if they heard the Tigers lost, knew they wouldn't lose ground, thought about coming home to play KC, and basically mailed it in, as always. I despise the mental makeup of this team. Mildly ridiculous? Ya, right.
  19. QUOTE (TheHolyBovine @ Aug 16, 2009 -> 05:28 PM) Giving up 2 ERs in 1+ IP against a HORRIBLE A's offense counts in my book. Talking about talking foolish.
  20. Jphat, you are currently just a shadow of your former self... for a long time i thought you were some happy-go-lucky robot that thought the sox could do absolutely no wrong.
  21. QUOTE (Soxbadger @ Aug 16, 2009 -> 05:04 PM) You mean like pinch hitting Wise for our best defensive outfielder in a 1 run game? For one.
  22. Never ceases to amaze me how many preposterous thoughts are in a game thread on a daily basis.
  23. QUOTE (GordonNotDavid @ Aug 13, 2009 -> 06:38 PM) How the mighty have falled. In 2005, Pods was one of the better baserunners in the game, but now while he's arguably as fast as he ever was, he runs into outs like he's Juan Uribe: Midwest. Podsednik had 59 stolen bases in 2005 and his 23 caught stealings were six more than anyone else in baseball. His stolen base percentage was 72% on the season. He was picked of a horrendous 14 times that season. In 2006 podsednik stole 40 bases, was caught 19 times, for a stolen base percentage of 68%, and last but not least he was picked off 12 times. Podsednik has not been a threat on the bases since 2004 and prior. Oh ya, forgot to tell you steve, you can still sponsor him for as little as $30.
  24. QUOTE (Kenny Hates Prospects @ Aug 13, 2009 -> 05:16 PM) Thank you! I've been arguing this for a while. Lilli wasn't hated until he had to play regularly and it wasn't his fault we didn't have better options. His defensive versatility and speed can be an asset to a playoff team. Now that Lillibridge is back up, this is even less of a reason to keep Wise. Lilli can backup at SS so Nix doesn't have to play there ever again and he becomes our 3rd CF after Rios and Pods. Wise is just taking up a spot and it's about time we called up another pitcher. I don't know what the rules are as far as calling up Nunez again (how long does a player have to stay down after being demoted before he can be recalled again?) but just putting another arm in the back of the pen would help us in case we run into another situation where our pen gets really overworked like last night. Not true. Lillibridge was highly criticized during practically all of spring training. Lillibridge is no defensive wizard by any margin. Lillibridge is not a major league baseball player.
  25. QUOTE (EvilJester99 @ Aug 12, 2009 -> 06:38 PM) Exactly what I was sayin...only worry is can CQ play RF with that foot of his. QUOTE (RockRaines @ Aug 12, 2009 -> 06:40 PM) Should be why? To put an injured Q in RF maybe 3 times a month? Thats just not smart. If you want Rios in CF, PODS is sitting. Thats how it is this season. The only way Rios is in CF and PODS is on the field is if Q is hurt or sitting, and even then Ozzie probably would want to keep PODS out of LF. ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- There is no good reason why quentin can play left field without it being an injury risk though right field is. The amount of chances in left field and right field is almost identical. I could see if there were substantially more balls hit to right rather than left... and people were worried he would be tested more out there. There is no reason to be concerned about any sort of adjustment period considering he has played right the majority of his baseball playing days. If dye is sitting, and your starting outfield consists of podsednik, rios, and quentin, the logical outfield rotation would be podsednik in left, rios in center, and quentin in right. Quentin is supposed to be a better right fielder than left fielder, rios is our best outfielder defender by far, and podsednik is a better defender in left compared to center (though it is pretty minimal considering podsednik has throwing woes in left compared to center). Suppose podsednik a wash in left and center, if we could upgrade at two positions defensively, even if it's only a handful of times, it's never a bad idea. While it is unlikely for this scenario to come to frutation, it's the right one.
