Halladay Superthread
QUOTE (whitesoxfan101 @ Jul 12, 2009 -> 12:18 AM) I haven't got into the mix in this thread, but I will simply say that there is absolutely no way in hell I would trade for Halladay. So you are saying you would not trade a piece of s*** for halladay? Interesting. Is it because he is too old, makes too much money, overrated? Combination? QUOTE (lostfan @ Jul 12, 2009 -> 12:19 AM) Fields and Lillbridge for Halladay? ... QUOTE (SoxAce @ Jul 12, 2009 -> 12:36 AM) To me thats a very close deal, but J.P. needs that high round stud/#1 SP he wanted along with his SS which will be Lilly. You better include McColluch in there to get this one done. Lillibridge will never be a major league player. Fields will stick around the league as long as he can until eventually he can no longer make it out of spring training (not many years down the road). Mccolluch? This better have been entirely sarcastic.

7/9 Game Thread Sox vs. Cleveland 1:05pm CDT CSN
QUOTE (Greg Hibbard @ Jul 9, 2009 -> 01:52 PM) I'm not insinuating Clayton is as bad, I'm just implying I'm having a flashback because of today. It reminded me of a certain 2004 montreal start. I forget the guy's name now, but it was hilariously bad. Arnie munoz.

QUOTE (daa84 @ Jul 9, 2009 -> 01:45 PM) I have no problem with ozzie not starting richard the rest of the year...but after he gave up the slam...you gotta keep him in the game just for innings..... Due to that we may see carrasco's era around 5.5 after this game.

2009 MLB Catch-All Thread
QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Jul 9, 2009 -> 05:56 AM) Playing in Texas helps, but I think this helps Rudy Jaramillo's case as the best hitting coach in the MLB. Jones has a.928 home ops compared to a .930 away ops. The silly thing is, jones has 7 home runs at both home and on the road, though he has hit those 7 on the road in 36 less at-bats than at home ( 98 at home... 62 on the road). He has only hit 1 double on the road compared to his 10 at home. I would of course agree that jaramillo is damn good at what he does.

2009 MLB Catch-All Thread
Andruw jones homered three times last night which raised his ops .066 points... it now stands at .929. Out of any players with over 150 plate appearances he is tied for the second best ab/hr rate in the majors. Pujols is first with a homerun once out of every 9.3 at-bats, and then jones and ibanez are tied at 11.4. Not too shabby for someone the majority of people thought was all but done

White Sox Acquire RP Tony Pena from ARI for Brandon Allen
QUOTE (JPN366 @ Jul 8, 2009 -> 11:17 PM) I just want to point out that people were calling for Allen to come up to Chicago if Konerko had been injured. Those people were fools.

Back Online
I cannot see why the ability to see which posters in a specific thread feature was taken off. By far the best feature soxtalk has ever had (it was around for my first couple years posting also). It didn't make the site lag for me... was it really lagging other people that bad?

I'm gonna be around for a chat tonight... be nice to see a good turnout. I most definitely will be spamming the game thread later on also.

Please don't do this...
QUOTE (Kenny Hates Prospects @ Jul 7, 2009 -> 09:40 PM) MLBTR doesn't make s*** up. Other writers do, and they report it. This is from the Baltimore Sun. Mlbtr sure as hell used to make things up. The owner himself, not just other sources, that is a fact. See for yourself... make sure to read the whole thread.

QUOTE (Milkman delivers @ Jul 6, 2009 -> 11:13 PM) Just watched Kramer vs. Kramer. That was incredible. Justin henry, aka billy kramer, is the youngest actor ever nominated in the academy history at only 8 years old. Worked out real well for him.

Halladay Superthread
QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jul 6, 2009 -> 06:56 PM) That's an interesting comparison. Santana was younger, closer to FA and therefore about to be more expensive, but also at the top of his game and in his prime years as opposed to at the back end of them. Here's what the Mets gave up for him: Humber was coming off a season where he put up a 4.27 ERA and 1.24 WHIP for the Mets AAA team, and a 7.71 ERA in a few shots with the big league mets. Gomez had a 1/2 season in AAA in 07 with a .777 OPS, and put up a .592 OPS in the big leagues. He did so at age 21, so he was considered a potential growth projection. Mulvey and Guerra were potentially projectable guys; Mulvey's been hanging around the minors for a couple years now, and Guerra was dealt out of high-A ball. They were at the time the Mets #2,3,4 and 7 prospects, but a lot of people thought it at best an adequate package for a guy like Santana. Richard and Poreda together have already done as much or more in the major leagues than what the guys the Mets gave up for Santana have done. Richard, Poreda, and someone with talent from the A-ball levels is about an equivalent deal, quite frankly. My point was essentially made for me. I follow prospects very close around the majors. I don' participate in the futuresox forum because i would clash with practically everyone around those parts. Prospects are fun to follow, but the reality is very, very few end up making a major impact, if they ever even make it in the first place (and sticking). Prospects are suspects. Proven commodities are just that much superior in nearly every single way. No one runs a team to win minor league titles.

Halladay Superthread
QUOTE (knightni @ Jul 6, 2009 -> 06:41 PM) True. But at 33, Toronto won't get as much for Halladay as they would have if he was 28. He is one of the two best pitchers in the major leagues, it's between him and johan. They can get quite the haul regardless.

Halladay Superthread
Prospects are suspects until proven otherwise. There is no debate. The odds are severely in our favor that everyone in the white sox top ten prospect list with will not pan out to be even league average players (just not realistic whatsoever), let alone studs which we will never be able to win a game again without, like some are led to believe. Proven commodities >>> a maybe, might, ought to be... every day of the week. Anyone can be moved, in any sport, at any time, if the situation and a particular teams needs call for it.

Halladay Superthread
This post belongs here also. QUOTE (Cerbaho-WG @ Jul 6, 2009 -> 05:49 PM) To go further, why would Hudson or Jordan Danks be untouchable? If anything, they would be prime players to be traded because their stock is extremely high right now. You're talking about a GM who flipped de los Santos after one phenomenal year (and a better one than Hudson is currently having), so I don't see why anyone outside of Beckham and possibly Vicideo should be untouchable unless you're just ignorantly latching onto someone. Are the aforementioned players extremely valuable? Absolutely. Should they be untouchable? Of course not.

Halladay Superthread
QUOTE (BearSox @ Jul 6, 2009 -> 03:18 PM) I think people are over blowing the age thing. Halladay isn't a velocity pitcher, he tops out at like 92 with his fastball and sits around 89-90. We don't have to worry about a loss in velocity as much as we would for lets say an Oswalt. Plus, Halladay really isn't an injury risk either. I think he will continue to be really good until he is 35 or 36, and even after his good years, I think he'll still be solid thanks to how good of a pitcher he is and how he uses all of his pitches effectively. Halladay's average fastball last season and this season has been 92.7. He hits 95 multiple times a game. The real point is throughout the whole thread halladay has been vastly underrated... and unfinished products in a middle of the pack farm system have been equally overrated. I love it.
