  1. QUOTE(nitetrain8601 @ Feb 6, 2006 -> 01:17 PM) I disagree. I mean, I think it's a good move, but everyone tells me that his defense has gone down big time since their WS season. Just about every Angels fan will tell you that they think his brother (their new starting catcher of the Angels) is flat out better in all categories. Bulls***... and well bulls***. His defense is top still top notch and most pitchers that have pitched to him will tell he is the best or one of the best to throw to. He still has at least two if not three good years left in him. You just do not start losing defense at the age of what 28-29 ( you said their world series). Angels fans think his brother is better out in all categories? Look around more and you will see how they dread the lost of bengie and are stuck with jose. The two are not comparable.
  2. QUOTE(Balta1701 @ Feb 5, 2006 -> 10:09 PM) Keith Richards insists he has never lost that honor. He will begin downing vast amounts of drugs again so as to leave no doubt.
  3. QUOTE(Jordan4life_2006 @ Feb 3, 2006 -> 08:43 PM) The Knicks get slaughtered again. This time by the lowly Raptors. Morrrison or Aldridge Bulls fans? Never morrison... great in college but i don't think it will translate well into the pros. Especially defensively, he is too slow footed.
  4. QUOTE(Balta1701 @ Feb 3, 2006 -> 05:54 PM) I believe you're wrong...after we signed PK the reports said Thome would probably play 1b about 1 time per week to give PK a chance to DH and get a little extra rest. I don't have a citation...but that's what I remember reading, and it makes sense to me if his elbow is all right. PK seemed to really be helped when he got his incredibly rare off-days last year. Konerko does not like to dh... most hitters do not like to dh unless they really have no other option aka too fat and not athletic enough to play any where else. Most of the best hitters since the dh have commented on how they feel better batting when they are playing a position rather than on the bench the entire game. The numbers reflect it for alot of the big name hitters too. Frank thomas is a great example... his numbers when playing first base were like .330ish. Konerko probally wouldn't have any problem with once a week but anything more than that i am sure he would squabble about.

QUOTE(Chisoxfn @ Feb 3, 2006 -> 05:51 PM) I've seen more than a few posts in this thread saying how horrible the film was. I keep hearing how bad it is everywhere yet it is rated pretty damn well on every site and most reviews of it.
  6. QUOTE(hammerhead johnson @ Feb 3, 2006 -> 05:13 PM) I couldn't be happier for him. I refuse to feel sorry for such an extraordinary flake. I agree, he got his dream job + i despise him... what is not to love?
  7. QUOTE(SoxFan101 @ Feb 3, 2006 -> 11:18 AM) you consider Zito consistent? For one i thought you were making fun of the spelling... therefore making fun of how you awlays say a course instead of... of course. Compile a list of pitchers that have had eras under four in five of the last six seasons ( first year he was brought up only had 93 and two thirds innings pitched). Also is that list make sure you find pitchers with over 200 innings pitched for five straight years. He has actually done so five straight years with over 210 innings pitched + he is a lefty. Only problem i would have with him is he is a severe fly ball pitcher. Way more so than garcia who also concerned me when we acquired him... he turned into a ground ball pitcher last year, thankfully, if not we would have had some problems. If barry zito is not consistent there isn't any body in the league that is.

QUOTE(LosMediasBlancas @ Feb 3, 2006 -> 09:02 AM) I've been waiting to see this. I usually read what Ebert has to say and then subtract 1 star from his rating. http://rogerebert.suntimes.com/apps/pbcs.d...EVIEWS/60117002 He has said his star ratings and thumbs up mean very little... it's just something he has to do. To get how he truly feels you have to read his reviews. He has some of the best reviews out there because he describes what the movie is about so well. I know the majority of the time how i will feel about a movie by just reading what he says ( even if i disagree with him... because there are certain things he does not like that i do).

  12. QUOTE(jphat007 @ Feb 2, 2006 -> 08:18 PM) Most important month for each player, when the pressure is the highest: Dye - .311 .415 .444 .860 Abreu - .250 .395 .396 .791 Abreu is the better player, but they are fairly equal with their contract situations, as DBAH0 agreed above. Pretty weak arguement. First game of the year means the same in the standings as the last.
  13. QUOTE(Heads22 @ Feb 2, 2006 -> 07:26 PM) Also, I updated the profiles of any award winners to show these honors. This is a lie.
  14. That judge should check out myspace or all those other stupid sites like it. He would have alot of fun looking around those sites. Basically it seems like it's mandatory to post pictures of parties with lots of drinking ( all underage) to look ''cool'' Only thing i will never understand is when a highschool comes across pictures of drinking and they can suspend kids. Was not on there property, was not during school hours... likely on the weekend.
  15. Btw, thandie newton is likely gonna be the bond chick.
  16. QUOTE(RibbieRubarb @ Feb 1, 2006 -> 11:20 PM) Actually Paul Haggis, who wrote "Million Dollar Baby" and is nominated twice for directing and writing "Crash", is writing the current Bond film. He didn't write "Die another Day" Actually he is correct and you are semi correct. Neal pervis and robert wade both wrote the world is not enough and die another day and they are writing casino royale. Paul haggis is just being brought in to ''polish'' the story up... script has not been touched in over a year.
  17. QUOTE(Balta1701 @ Feb 2, 2006 -> 12:46 AM) I wonder, if KW were to think about this sort of deal...if he might do one of his classic "I'll make the deal if you include $x million" sort of moves, given how expensive Abreu's contract is. I'm still going to sit here and think that no matter what happens, if anything, it would not happen if the Sox did not have a way penciled in to give Mark Buehrle a contract extension and bonus. I have enough confidence in KW right now to believe that one. One other thing I think I like about the concept...we have Abreu for several years...so it's entirely possible to let Sweeney sit in the minors for another 2 years, let Abreu hit 35 home runs a year in the Cell, and then move Abreu 2 years from now when Sweeney is ready to bring in another big-time player. Abreu is gonna hit 35 here and has never done so in citizens bank ( well his career for that matter)? He has had right around 700 plate since 1999-2000 so he has plenty of chances. I would expect around the same numbers considering each divisions pitching is pretty close to one another.
  18. QUOTE(Kalapse @ Feb 1, 2006 -> 05:00 PM) ^^ What the hell kind of kid gets up and sits on the floor in front of the class and then takes a barage of paper balls to the head? He sounds like a pussy to me, there's no way in hell I'd sit in front of the class to begin with which is something he should never have done. Doesn't matter if they threw cotton, baseball, paper, or pickles at him. It is just not what someone of authority should be allowing. If i was in his class and he wore something i didn't like he better be ready for a book at his head. The kid is only a pussy in my mind for taking it... not for telling. I would have told and try to have his job. He apparently did not pursue it to great lengths.
  19. QUOTE(Balta1701 @ Jan 30, 2006 -> 11:36 AM) I still don't like the idea of putting owens in the big time yet...he's only had 1 really successful year in the minors as far as I know (last year at AA ball), he hasn't really faced even AAA pitching, he has several things to learn still (defense, base-stealing techniques), and as far as I know his arbitration clock hasn't started yet. I know it doesn't seem like a huge thing, but if Borchard doesn't make the 25 man roster this year...we lose him completely. Someone will claim him off waivers. If nothing else, I'm just going to continue hoping for an average year from him just so we can trade him to someone desperate for an outfield bat after an injury. If we've invested that much time and that much $$ in a guy...if there's any potential left there at all (and he still does perform pretty well at AAA), then I don't think it's a good idea to just waste all that investment. The jump from double a to triple is is much less than from rookie ball to double a or single a to double a. There is a reason so many teams bring up players from double a and don't worry about sending them to triple a. Look at the sox in the early to middle 90's... most were brought up from double a with none or very limited experience in triple a. His numbers are not and never have been anything to look at considering his stadium and league as a whole he plays in. Some of the craziest offensive numbers in the minors... ever... have been put up in that league.
  20. QUOTE(DBAH0 @ Feb 1, 2006 -> 04:02 AM) There's been rumors of Atlanta trading Al Harrington to the Knicks for Quentin Richardson over the past few days. They may possibly try to expand it to a 3 way deal to get either Toronto or Portland invovled (Rose, Penny Hardway, Theo Ratliff). The Knicks are just a total mess right now. Ever since that 1st half against the Magic, they've been downright terrible. I'd expect them to go hard after Mike James for the MLE in the off-season. Larry Brown loves his toughness, and it's hard to see him stickin with Marbury, and Nate Robinson who's back in his doghouse again. Marcus Banks has always had some good wraps for his defense, and he scored 20 points against the Celtics the other day. The T-Wolves already have Troy Hudson and Marko Jaric, so I'm thinkin something may happen there trading wise (although there's been rumors of Reggie Evans and Flip Murray for Banks, which McHale should probably jump at). And Boris Diaw got his 1st ever triple - double today, 14 points, 11 boards and 13 assists. The guy's turned into a stud, and the Suns look dangerous when they play adequate enough defense and they're knockin down shots. Bell's a 3 PT machine, and Barbosa and House provide instant offense off the bench in the guard positions. And it should be interesting to see how Tskitishvili fits in, once he starts getting into some games. He could play some PF for them, and have a Radmanovic like role off the bench. Marcus banks? He is a no body i thought :rolly It is pretty surprising that diaw got his first triple double considering him stat line is as good as it is. When amare gets back they are gonna be simply amazing to watch as ( stating the obvious there).
  21. QUOTE(DBAH0 @ Feb 1, 2006 -> 04:09 AM) Even with our payroll increasing, I don't think it really changes the fact that it's better to have a #1 starter and a good OF, for a very good OF and a SP prospect who's quite iffy at the moment. We shouldn't turn into the Yankees all of a sudden. Of course everyone would take abreu over dye if there were no salaries involved... Abreu @ 13 million and dye @ 5? Dye plays s***ty defense and i do not care what aaron rowand says ( oh rowand and dye covered more ground than any others he played with blah blah blah...). Abreu is nothing special and i will never have a clue how he won it... winning the home run derby may have had something to do it, only thing i can think of. It is a no brainer to me at least. Both are very good on the base paths with the edge of course going to abreu because of how good he is at stealing bases. Offensively dye will likely give you more power while abreu gives you very good obp. But like others have said abreu is worry some after his second half last season. He only out ops'd dye by .034 in an even bette hitters park than we have.
  22. QUOTE(SSH2005 @ Feb 1, 2006 -> 02:09 AM) I'm worried the most about Contreras, Hermanson, and Politte. I'm not to worried about Buehrle, Garcia, Vazquez, and Garland. Difference is from contreras and politte to hermanson is they have always had very good stuff. Hermanson use to have dynomite stuff... he was the number three pick in 1994 afterall. Hermanson has lost alot since contrary to his season last year. I never was a huge fan of the signing and didn't think he would do as well as he did last year. Once more i expect a 4+ era... now time for rowand to mention something. I hope he succeeds but i just cannot see it again especially coming back from his injury and how he was pitching at the end of last season.
  23. QUOTE(SSH2005 @ Feb 1, 2006 -> 03:43 AM) Nobody knows. That's why it's a rumor. I do. He doesn't. Makes no sense for now or the future. Do you have faith in hamels or floyd? I don't... not anytime soon anyway... and i have a good feeling kenny williams doesn't.
  24. Only way dye is leaving chicago is via free agency. He is way too affordable and kenny williams knows it. No way he trades for for abreu and his albatross contract + a pitcher that is far from a sure thing in floyd or hamels. I want no part of floyd and hamels especially at this point. I personally think it's bulls*** how everyone thinks we need 6,7,8 major league caliber starting pitchers. At think point i feel if one of our starters goes down for four months kenny williams will be able to pull the trigger for a major league caliber pitcher to replace him ( saying if he did end up trading contreras before the season starts... extremely unlikely).
