QUOTE (danman31 @ Sep 2, 2011 -> 09:30 PM) So apparently TCU has a paper mache defense. Their secondary coach left to be TTU's defensive coordinator :-P. This is hilarious to watch. -

Andre Drummond to join UConn for 2011 season. They are just about at the level of UNC and Kentucky now. Their frontline is nasty. -

QUOTE (whitesoxfan101 @ Aug 14, 2011 -> 03:03 PM) SEC statement: So they're staying at 12, for now. Texas A&M is still not long for the Big 12, but I think everybody got a little ahead of themselves here, kind of like we saw last summer. Even I, the guy who says the Big 12 isn't going to last long, didn't think things would happen this fast. Doesn't really affect anything at the moment. A&M has to meet, and then apply for the SEC. The SEC will then vote on whether or not to stay at 12. -

QUOTE (Capn12 @ Aug 13, 2011 -> 11:48 PM) Enough haterade about my South Carolina team!! 'Doormat' and mired in mediocrity aren't the same thing. We're a 500 program over the life of football, not a complete assclown team. No disrespect meant. You guys have a .500 program, but you always had great fan support. Now you are getting top recruits and consistently winning. I just vividly remember your 98-99 seasons. -

QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Aug 13, 2011 -> 07:05 PM) If Auburn can pull off an SEC win, doesn't that pretty much mean almost any team in the SEC (other than Kentucky and Vandy) can legitimately win that conference? Ignoring the player they bought in Cam Newton, I think you are underestimating Auburn as a program. They are 13th all time in wins. They are above Vandy, Kentucky, South Carolina, Mississippi State, Ole Miss, and Arkansas. They would be above Clemson, A&M, and Mizzou as well. But I do agree with your point. Who would have ever seen a perennial doormat in South Carolina step up and win a SEC division? -

QUOTE (MHizzle85 @ Aug 13, 2011 -> 11:19 AM) Just a quick question (if it can be even answered quick). Why are teams jumping conferences like this? Is it strictly a $$$ issue? As usual, it's all about money. Trying to extend their TV viewership's into new TV markets. A&M gets the SEC into the Houston market and Texas recruiting for instance. The Pac is wanting to extend into the central timezone. -

QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Aug 13, 2011 -> 09:18 AM) Espn saying A&M to the SEC is official and announced Monday. Looks like Clemson and FSU are joining as well. Also rumors Mizzou might be going with A&M to the SEC West. That would be an insane conference each and every week. It seems Texas, Texas Tech, Oklahoma, and Oklahoma State would be off to the Pac 12 if Mizzou finally finishes off the Big 12. Would Kansas, KSU, ISU, and Baylor have invites to the Big East? The ACC would certainly be left in disarray and would be competing with the Big East to form the 4th super conference. -

It's going down and it's going to be an insane beginning to the college football season. Rumors of A&M to SEC, and Tech, OU, Okie State to Pac. The question would be what Texas will do. They won't sacrifice their other programs and go independent. Will they follow OU, Tech, and Okie State to the Pac? Will they join the Big 10? Will Kansas, Kansas State, Iowa State, and Mizzou head to the Big East? Interesting stuff. -

QUOTE (jenksfart @ Aug 5, 2011 -> 08:18 AM) They need to rename the big 12 to the big 2. Texas and ESPN? There's only one school in the Big 12 running things. Half the schools are lusting after their neighbors conference, the other half are sticking their head in the sand and hoping nothing changes. -

QUOTE (whitesoxfan101 @ Jul 27, 2011 -> 11:14 PM) I'm certainly not qualified enough to comment on the bolded, but I think Butch Davis had to go, regardless of where he was the coach, based on the circumstances in place here. I'm shocked he lasted this long. I think looking at Ohio State's apparent success in making Tressel the villain is understandable, but this is different since Carolina basically had an assistant coach acting as a runner. I'm assuming you are talking about John Blake? He never gave players anything, he just tried to steer UNC's future NFL players to Gary Wichard while being their "father" figure. He was basically a giant sleezeball, but there was nothing found to be illegal. Just unethical. Butch trusted the wrong folks, and ended up paying for it with his job. -

QUOTE (whitesoxfan101 @ Jul 27, 2011 -> 05:00 PM) UNC is terminating Butch Davis as coach. Sounds like, from the descriptions I read, that the athletic department wanted to keep him, but the Chancellor stepped in and got rid of him due to the academic fraud. He absolutely had to go, but the timing of it is bizarre. It should have happened months ago, and by waiting until now they've really screwed up their season this fall. Wasn't the chancellors decision. New BOT members were sworn in today and immediately took action. They are using Ohio State's firing of Tressel and the NCAA's leniency on Ohio State as the example. In essence, UNC football is a giant cluster@#!$, and will continue to be for many years as the academia types try to keep football from mattering. They don't believe football success and being an elite academic institution can coincide. -
Ken Williams considers youth movement
Palehosefan replied to whitesoxfan101's topic in Pale Hose Talk
I would love nothing more than to see Ozzie and Kenny replaced, but I also am weary of a youth movement. Lets face it, our scouting department was gutted a few years ago, but they still aren't exactly lighting the world on fire. We don't have much in the minors ready to step in and replace roster positions. We have some horrendous contracts that nobody is going to touch. If Kenny decided to bail on the season, attendance is going to dip even worse. My biggest fear is that it's going to take a long time before the fans return. I still vividly remember the attendance woes of even the early 2000's. I also realize that we have built whatever roster we had over the years based on free agents and trades while having the highest payroll in the central. In summary, my biggest fear is trusting our scouting department while scaring off even mediocre fan support. -
QUOTE (Cali @ Jul 26, 2011 -> 01:15 PM) Viciedo + Cash for Desire + Focus. Do it Kenny.

QUOTE (Heads22 @ Jul 22, 2011 -> 12:26 AM) All the schools knew it was coming, they shouldn't act surprised. Also, they are no longer going to be able to do that, and the latest discussion is that the Longhorn Network may not happen, and instead all schools will share one network. The situation is fluid, and no offense 101, those making these predictions have ZERO CLUE about the dynamics involved. Yep, it's looking more and more like Texas is going to have to take one for the team now that they won't be able to air high school games and have other AD's refusing to be on their network. I'm extremely tired of hearing about A&M's offer to the SEC. Either take it or shut the hell up about it A&M. You pretend to hate Texas so much, but you won't take a supposedly legit offer from the SEC? -
Nice present for Saladino's 22nd birthday today. Also nice to see Silviero doing well in his first few high A games.

Harrison is valuable because of the role he's in with the Steelers. He is in the same role as Jason Gildon and Joey Porter before him, and they all put up bigtime numbers with the Steelers as the hybrid OLB/DE. In a few years, someone like their 5th round pick this year Chris Carter from Fresno State will step in and put up bigtime numbers as long as Dick Lebeau is still around. -
