I Figured Out Why The Angels Didnt Sign D.E.

QUOTE(Hideaway Lights @ Aug 2, 2007 -> 03:05 PM) because he sucks? THey should just release him now or put him on waivers and give him his buyout, hes taking up valuable playing time and a roster spot that someone else should have. Go away Erstad were done with you. -
QUOTE(AirScott @ Jul 31, 2007 -> 11:39 AM) And I know the hang-up in this case is money, but remember Pods' $3 million or so, Crede's $5 million or so, Jermaine Dye's $7 million and Jose Contreras' $10 million figure to be shaved from the 2008 payroll, or at least the latter two's. Payroll currenty sits at about $85 mil on the books for next year, including the $7.3 Mil in from Phily its about $78 mil. That total includes contreras who is under contract, but not crede who is not. If we assume we spend $90 Mil next year thats only $12 Mil to spend in the offseason not enough for anything major. If we dump contreras and keep crede off the roster we have around $22 Mil to spend. Looking better.

Why the hell would we want Willy Mo Pena unless hes going to be a 4th OF. We are in the middle of change away from the lethargic poor defense playing OF (or player) anyway so why would we want Pena. His defense is terrible and hes slow doesn't sounds like a grinder nor the type ozzie would want. I think Eric Byrnes when I think outfielders the sox and ozzie want to see on their team, not Willy Mo Pena.

One of the best ways to build a ballclub is to amass quality arms in the pen and then build from there. You get enough quality arms in the pen you have a good bullpen, some become starters and replenish your rotation and you move on from there.

I loved listening to Stone when Farmer was gone to start the season. I wish we could replace dollar dog chris or DJ with stone.

By my calculation the sox currently have $84.625 Mil on the books for next year tied up in 11 players. Factor in the $7.3 Mil in from the phillies and we have about $77.292 Mil commited for 2008. Project a $90 mil payroll and we really only have about $13 Mil to spend. Not nearly enough to fill the holes at OF, SS, 2B, and RP. I think its pretty obvious someone is going to be dumped. And that someone is most likely Contreras and his $10 mil. If he goes we have $23 Mil to spend and could probably afford 3-4 good players with that (Orlando Hudson, Eric Byrnes, Aaron Rowand, Scott Linebrink). Picture this the sox have $25 mil to spend for 2008 and we get: LF Eric Byrnes $9 Mil CF Aaron Rowand $9 Mil 2B Orlando Hudson $4.5 Mil RP Scott Linebrink $2.5 Mil Total = $25 MIL And feel free to backload those contracts after 08 so Byrnes and Rowand could be getting something like $10-$12 per year in 09 and 10.

Yankees looking at Garland, Thornton?
joeynach replied to beck72's topic in Sox Baseball Headquarters
Does anyone think that building around two guys in MB and JG might not be the best thing. I understand they both eat innings but I have never seen a pitch that they through that missed a bat. These two guys for a much success as they have had are a defense's worst nightmare, they rely so much on putting the ball in play to get outs. Granted I think we all live with that with MB and are happy hes here, but I wouldn't be opposed to trading JG to bring in some real talent here. Like I said before pitchers that need to put the ball in play with our defense and our hitter friendly park might not be the right staff for us to build around. Thats why I think Javy is a better option to build around with Mark and why the sox wanted Gio back so badly (he really keeps the ball out of play with his K/9 rating). -
Byrnes and Rowand in the same outfield...

QUOTE(CanOfCorn @ Jul 23, 2007 -> 01:44 PM) YEAH!!! And re-sign Erstad!!! Byrnes-Rowand-Erstad would be the grind-ER-iest OF EVAR!!! Until the second game when they all dive for a ball in short CF, break each others faces and are out for the rest of the year, leaving us with an OF of converted IF...Ozuna, Gonzalez and Cintron. LOL!!! -
Sox interested in Orlando Hudson/Elijah Dukes

QUOTE(GreenSox @ Jul 6, 2007 -> 10:01 PM) We need a power-hitting right fielder and a leadoff hitter in left or at second. If we get that, I'll give yall rowand. You need to be careful there. The sox are in the midst of a change in philosophy. Kenny goofed on the whole we have Thome, Dye, Konerko thing so were set. This team needs to be more dynamic in the way its scores runs. Higher AVG and OBP guys at the top and bottom of the lineup. More speed surrounding Thome, Konerko, AJ on the basepaths. I dont think KW will be looking for more 40/100 guys that cant score from 2B on a single. I think its more of guys that fit the Torii Hunter/Carlos Beltran model from here on out, who produce offensivley and aren't liabilities on the base paths. Thats why Eric Byrnes, Orlando Hudson, and Aaron Rowand by all account are on the sox radar screen. They represent above average characteristics in most if not all offesive categories of production. I dont think we are going to see any more Thome/Konerko type sluggers on this team for a while, ala Adam Dunn. -
Why the heck not Eric Byrnes next year...
joeynach replied to Wanne's topic in Sox Baseball Headquarters
I have wanted Byrnes for a while now too. Hes a better version of Rowand in the fact that hes got a ton of speed and more power. He could be your leadoff guy or your #5 hitter. He hits a ton of XBH and has good power and batting avg. Problem is he might want like 4/48. I probably wouldnt go higher than 4/36. -
Byrnes and Rowand in the same outfield...
joeynach replied to wilmot825's topic in Sox Baseball Headquarters
I would love to have both these guys anchor CF and LF. Both of them are those hard nosed balls out guys our fans really admire and are both coming into their own offensively. The thing I like is that they both hit RHP and LHP equally as well and would add a lot of speed plus extra base hits to our lineup. I actually think its these type of guys you need to put around the more lethargic guys we have as mainstays in our lineup; Konerko, Thome, AJ, Crede (if healthy). And dont underestimate Byrnes' power I think hes definatly a 25 Hr guy and more like a 30 HR guy at the cell. -
Braves made offer to White Sox
joeynach replied to AWhiteSoxinNJ's topic in Sox Baseball Headquarters
No way is Renteria worth Garland, yeah he can hit for AVG but thats about it. If they wanted to talk Escobar or Johnson Id listen. -
Just release him if no one will trade for him. Hes hurting this roster by taking up a spot for some other starter to get some MLB experience. Really Id rather eat the $10 Mil then let him play, hes done he cant throw over 90.
-
According to Rotoworld the sox are going to activate Pods and Erstad today. Although Id like to see Owens get a majority of CF the rest of the way we have two corresponding moves to make. Between Gonzalez, Terrero, and Owens 2 of the 3 need to be sent down to make room. Obviously the most valuable is Owens and we would all like to see him stay. Gonzalez is 0 for this last 19 and is probably headed back to AAA. Terrero is out of options so he would need to slip through waivers. So the sox need to decide if they are perhaps parting ways with terrero permanently today, which I have no problem with.

QUOTE(SoxFan77 @ Jul 19, 2007 -> 03:01 PM) With the current market value.. I think 10mil might be the bargain price we get him at. Other teams.. ie the ones don't land Hunter will go even higher. If hunter is going to be 12-14 Mil per year at 5 years or so there is no way Rowand gets more than $10. You should be able to get both rowand and Byrnes for something between $8-$10 per year (backloaded).

LF: Shannon Stewart or Eric Byrnes CF: Aaron Rowand RF: Ryan Sweeney 4OF: Mack 5OF: Owens
-
Vazquez has posted a good ERA, but his WHIP is bad. He is giving up too many hits and walks and his ERA is probably below what you would expect for that. He does show some promise but he needs to working on his control and Hits Per IP rate.
-
I dont think you will see Rusell this year in the pen, I think you will see Carlos Vazquez.

Cant we all just agree good riddance to Dye. The only positive of him this year has been that he was only making 6 Mil. I like what Dye did for us, but its time to move on. The white sox need to abandon the sort of lethargic slugger mentality. As much we all love Thome and Konerko they clog the bases and while its ok to have a couple guys like that you need to surround them with speed. The white sox need a new RF (as well as LF and CF) and frankly Dye is simply and ailing and aging outfielder who fits that lethargic slugger mode. Its about the time the sox bring in some big bats that dont clog the bases and have some speed. OF's like Eric Byrnes, Torii Hunter, Carlos Beltran, and even Aaron Rowand. These are the OF the white sox I believe are looking for, Ryan Sweeney also fits this bill. Dont be surprised to see your OF next year or Byrnes, Rowand, and Sweeney with Owens on the bench. So while we all admire what Dye did here its time to move on and I dont think anyone should really be surprised.

Where is AJ, he always starts if there is a Righty on the mound.

Boras is going to start the bidding for Crede at 6 Years 100 Mil. He will take his career .259 avg and .305 OBP to the dodgers or Dbacks.

Is there a possibility that Contreras is having arm problems?
joeynach replied to Jack Parkman's topic in Pale Hose Talk
Jose had been throwing 95+ for Cuba national team for years. He has been throwing longer than we know and when in Cuba was throwing year round. I think its about time it all caught up with him. Jose can hardly throw 90 at this point and hes probably doing so for a reason. Hes old, tired, hurt, sore, whatever. It doesn't matter, the point is Jose's baseball career is in Jeopardy with his inability to throw a fastball better than 89 mph, and I think everyone in baseball knows it. He is defiantly showing the signs that all the years of power pitching, and pitching year round in Cuba and the MLB is catching up with him.
