QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Apr 9, 2014 -> 10:52 AM) I know you will love this, but it wouldn't surprise me in the least if MLB tried to make Jerry the commissioner of baseball. It's better to control the commisioner than to be the commisioner.

QUOTE (lasttriptotulsa @ Apr 8, 2014 -> 07:35 PM) Good point, but remember Selig is gone after this year. Reinsdorf might not have the same control over the new commish like he does Selig. Read a quote from JR along the lines of nobody listened to him in the NBA so it was easy to give it over to his son. Wonder if he doesn't have the same say with the new commish if that wouldn't hasten his sale of the Sox.

If Flowers is fixed (check back in a month), Severson should immediately get Coop-like status

QUOTE (chisoxfan310 @ Apr 8, 2014 -> 08:07 PM) James Shields on say like a 3 year deal would seem realistic. You can throw him in between Sale and Q. 5 years for Shields in order to compete with the big boys.
-
QUOTE (Bigsoxhurt35 @ Apr 8, 2014 -> 08:03 PM) Ok well I'd go Shields too. I love him and he's a RHP. Scherzer is too much money. Shields is gona command a bunch Shields is too old and will be too expensive for the Sox.

QUOTE (flavum @ Apr 8, 2014 -> 07:27 PM) Next time he spells Conor Gillaspie's name Connor, call him on it. I hear ya, but ragging on someone's grammar or spelling on a message board seems childish to me.

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Apr 8, 2014 -> 07:08 PM) I'd settle for spelling his name right. Noted. If you haven't noticed by now, I'm not a typist.

Abreau needs to start showing something. Including spring training 1 unintentional walk in 90 PA.

As of today... who is the #6 starter for the Sox?

QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Apr 8, 2014 -> 05:13 PM) Which by definition would not be "consistent" as it includes the word "change". It's the success part for this organization that requires change. -

QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Apr 8, 2014 -> 12:30 PM) (Just to stress again, part of "consistent success" is the word "consistent"...which at some level may well require a team to give guys a chance to work through early season struggles). Or more likely a change in talent evaluators. -
QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Apr 8, 2014 -> 09:24 AM) There was an article about White Sox ownership last year where a couple of owners speculated JR's stake somewhere between 10 and 15 %. JR said their guess was significantly understated. When JR goes, the executors of his estate get control of the team. I really don't think it will be ugly at all. Some have wanted out and got out. Some want to stay and let their heirs be owners. The bottom line is JR has made these people a ton of money. A lot of them are with him with the Bulls as well. Agreed. With the way Selig and JR have controlled the sales of teams since they took over, I'd be willing to wager JR knows rght now who will buy the team.

I have a very good friend who was a higher-up in the accounting firm used by a very wealthy Chicagoan to perform the DD necessary to purchase a team. This was close to 10 years ago now and they were interested in every team that came on the market. The story goes that MLB told them that they weren't going to get these teams because MLB was interested in local ownership. My friend believes this buyer is lined up for the Sox.

QUOTE (Heads22 @ Apr 6, 2014 -> 04:13 PM) I'm not going to pronounce him a finished product at this point is all. We're talking about catching throws as a first baseman. At 27, if he needs to work on that, I doubt very much that DH isn't in his future.
-
QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Apr 6, 2014 -> 03:58 PM) How about Dunn catches it? How about anyone catches that?
-
QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Apr 6, 2014 -> 03:55 PM) That's why you play him over there this season, so he makes those mistakes now instead of next year. He's 27.

QUOTE (fathom @ Apr 6, 2014 -> 02:45 PM) Abreu's gonna be a DH, isn't he? If he can hit.

Looked like Abreau didn't get any part of the bag when he stepped on Hosmer's foot. I didn't get a good look at the replay though.

When third base becomes a problem worthy of Davidson's call up I don't think his arbitration status will stop him. The Sox deal with their good young players before they get to free agency.

QUOTE (Y2JImmy0 @ Apr 6, 2014 -> 12:14 PM) Jason Parks @ProfessorParks 5m Tim Anderson. RT @lot_49: @ProfessorParks Would you rather have Tim Anderson or Trea Turner in your organization? Anderson is an intriguing piece to the puzzle. If he can't stick at SS, wonder how things shake out with him, Micah Johnson, Semien, and Eaton as to who plays what. That's not even taking into account what the organization thinks of Carlos Sanchez. The way they value power it would seem that Sanchez is more of a fall back option though.

They needed that outing from Danks today.

QUOTE (IlliniKrush @ Apr 4, 2014 -> 09:34 PM) I will say this, now that I've been to a bunch of other stadiums, the concourses at USCF do feel tight. They should have been designed much wider. Plus, the layout of the food stands is terrible. All the lines jut into the walkway, and there's no where for anyone to go. You've got food lines on both sides of the concourse, to the point where they almost meet. Lot of other parks have better set ups, and there are plenty where you can still see the game from the majority of the concourse. I don't have a great solution, but it seems ridiculous that we're the only park (that I know of) that has this policy. I know a ton of people who can't stand the UD only policy, and I'm sure some people don't go to as many games just due to the fact that you can't get down there whatsoever for all the other amenities. If you bring a family, it'd be great to be able to get downstairs for some amenities, then go sit upstairs. I'm sure some families can't afford lower deck tickets for every game, just so they can use that concourse. Is there even a family bathroom in the UD? I forgot about all those stands they've added on the lower deck over the years, good point. As far as the upper deck concourse goes, they've improved it since the renovation, but it pales in comparison to the lower deck. They'll make improvements to it when they start selling UD tix more consistently because they won't want to leave any money on the table. My feeling about Sox Park is that it was built around the premise of maximizing revenue for a season attendance of 2M and it probably does a good job of that. I'd put the lower deck seats with the best in MLB. Unfortunately to design it that way, the upper deck had to be one of the worst. Forget about the steepness (which is an issue), the first row is too far back from home plate. The views are solid, but the casual fan is not going to enjoy the experience of going to a game nearly as much because the seats are so far away.

QUOTE (IlliniKrush @ Apr 4, 2014 -> 08:03 PM) I see your point, but no other ball club/stadium has this problem, or has come up with a solution? Thing is, I don't know of any other park where you can watch the game from anywhere on the lower deck concourse. People hang out the entire game on the concourse because there are several spots that provide very good views.
-
QUOTE (IlliniKrush @ Apr 4, 2014 -> 03:51 PM) The stigma is that the Sox have banished those people to the UD. I haven't been to one other park that does this. There are a lot more concessions, stands, etc. downstairs. To not let people down there is dumb. We know it all stemmed from keeping the half price Monday crowd off the field, but those don't exist anymore. The problem is the lower deck got far too crowded before the rule was instituted. Navigating the lower deck with a crowd 25K+ is challenging enough with the rule in place.

Nate Jones can't be trusted in any game situation (other than mop up) and that makes him a bullpen killer.

QUOTE (flavum @ Apr 3, 2014 -> 05:12 PM) What are Ryan Bukvich and Andy Sisco doing these days? Along with David Aardsma, two names that I will forever associate with when this dark period of Sox baseball began.
