  1. Not funny at the time, but kinda funny now. My college roommate was dating this girl two years younger than him. They had been dating since high school. Finally, when we were juniors and had an apartment, she started as a freshman. So, after two years, they were FINALLY together. We move into our new apartment on a Sunday and classes started on Thursday. Thursday morning, at 8AM (!!!) my roommate knocks on my door and comes in crying. I'm still wiping the sleep out of my eyes when he lays this gem on me, "I just saw (ex-girlfriends name here) on my way to class." "Yeah...and...?" I say. "She was walking home. (sob) She's doing the walk of (sob) shame." GOO! Needless to say, they got back together, she promptly cheated on him again and that was that. Not funny watching my friend cry, but funny now because, well...IT WAS COLLEGE!!! Who cares?
  2. QUOTE(southsideirish @ Jun 14, 2007 -> 08:04 AM) You should expect to get some of these pieces via trades with Jermaine Dye, Mark Buehrle (I am assuming that is your 1 SP opening), and Tadahito Iguchi. Aaron Rowand shouldn't cost much in CF. RF Ichiro will pay for himself with all the merchandise and attendance he will bring in. LF they will need to find a power guy - maybe trade some prospects for that type of player. 2B shouldn't be too difficult to replace Iguchi. SP should be a rook or Massett or a dependable veteran. They have pieces for the bullpen - they just have to straighten them out. THey should not need an entire bullpen as you say. There is NO WAY that this team will hit like this next year. Even without Iguchi and Dye. As long as they have good starting pitching, they should, should be in it. KW needs to make some bullpen additions and get something for Dye and Iguchi, if he can. If any pitcher should go, and he agrees, it's Contreras. Build around JG, JV, JD and re-sign MB. Then you can take either Gio, Masset, Russel, etc. for #5.
  3. I understand what you can get back for him, but that doesn't mean you should. Thome is a character player...a guy all young players should aspire to be. Works hard, does things right. If you are going to trade anyone, it's Dye.
  4. Honestly, I can see Dye going, but I think the Sox will do whatever it takes to keep Buerhle. Even if that means losing him for nothing. The Sox will take the Type A compensation pick. But, you don't just trade a durable, LHSP with playoff experience. UNLESS, you get absolutely wowed by something in return. And that's the stance I think the Sox will take.
  5. QUOTE(Greg The Bull Luzinski @ Jun 12, 2007 -> 05:39 PM) I miss the glory days when watching this team was not painful. Still, I love this team. 2004...? Dude, lay off the ganj...
  6. Vandy (and anyone else who agrees with him), It's not about what you believe. In fact, it's not about you at all. Any person that is the head of anything deserves respect whether you believe in it or not. Just because I'm not the most religious Jew doesn't mean I won't call someone Rabbi or won't call a priest, Father. It's their title and they deserve the respect that comes with it. If you don't believe in it, that's fine. But when you are speaking to someone who does believe it and/or has earned a title, they DO deserve it.
  7. It's amazing...we won the 2005 World Series with a team that was playing above it's respective heads and was incredibly lucky. That luck has changed...dramatically. Who would have thought that this team would be hitting so poorly? Who would have thought the bullpen would have blown up to this extent? How about this injury bug (and don't give me the Erstad, Pods crap, Dye was considered an "injury risk" too when he came here and that worked out ok). I don't know if you can trade people just to change luck. This team is pressing. And trade talk certainly doesn't help that. If something comes along that helps the team, I say do it. But until then, try to win with the team that brung ya. JMHO...fire away.
  8. Favorite Park = AT&T Park. Sat in the Right Field seats right in front of McCovey Cove. Awesome. Nicest Fans = Cards fans. I don't know why, I think it's the mutual hatred of the Cubs.
  9. QUOTE(fathom @ Jun 12, 2007 -> 09:49 AM) Not really sure why the Braves needs Griffey Jr. They have a great platoon situation going in LF, and have Jones/Franceour in CF/RF. If anything, that team needs help at first base. Maybe they have a plan to put Griffey there? Or possibly moving someone in from the outfield, like Franceour? I don't know, it's a maybe.
  10. QUOTE(hitlesswonder @ Jun 8, 2007 -> 03:59 PM) Note that they said Buehrle would be a huge piece for somebody, not that Buehrle would bring a great return...that's just great. These guys can't say everything in their columns. You know he would bring a lot. Durable, proven winner, LHP, pitches to contact. Yeah, he won't get something ridiculous, just because he's going to be a free agent. But, he'll still get us a lot.
  11. QUOTE(Flash Tizzle @ Jun 8, 2007 -> 08:27 PM) Where's our Hunter Pence? I think you're watching him...didn't the Sox want him as part of the Garland deal?
  12. Again, Mack with the hard hit. This time, Luke Scott pulled a Luis Terrero. I done with Uribe. That's just f'in ridiculous. Two pop-ups.
  13. Or maybe they just did. CRAP!!!! Nice run at it Luis...shouldn't have dove though.
  14. Where are the chat room folks? And Iguchi's seeing the ball real well now. Even his outs are being crushed.
  15. Don't know if this was posted, but Keith Law says this of the White Sox:
  16. QUOTE(chiguy79 @ Jun 7, 2007 -> 04:49 PM) If the sox keep playing like this you will be able to get very good season tickets next year...last two games I have been to have had about five minutes worth of suspense and "positive" play... it is time to start pulling out more mock cheers, (ie any time someone gets to second base we should have a standing O) Having an old team with injury histories has finally caught up to the sox, having no position player talent in the minors makes things worse. I don't see the sox signing any of their free agents and I think if Crede comes off the DL and has a good two weeks they dump him also. If they don't keep Iguchi, the only positions next year where we will have decent players at is 1B/DH/C, our bench pretty much sucks since pablo got hurt also. I know I am being very negative but I was counting on a bit of a run in June to get back into this and instead we fell 5 games further back. I don't see Jerry R. keeping a $100mm payroll and an aging team of high-paid players. The shame is that the season ticket fan base will evaporate and we will be right back where we were pre-2005, $75-$80mm payroll, a few bonafide players surrounded by youth, and every year hoping that we can get on a roll and then buy some players (Robbie Alomar, Carl Everett) at the all star break. Hopefully the sox don't go the route of firesale or not resigning their free agents to save dollars as I think it is important to try to retain the positive momentum with the fan base. I may just start rewatching the WS DVD instead of getting frustrated watching the current edition. [holding half of Soxtalk back] Doooooonnnnn't dooooo iiiitt. [/holding half of Soxtalk back] Ah, what the hell, go to it!
  17. What will get Crawford? A van, some ski masks, a lot of gas money and a taser. Yeah, that should work.
  18. QUOTE(Cerbaho-WG @ Jun 7, 2007 -> 02:53 PM) Yes he is, and we traded for him, so it's not as if we negotiated a deal to sign him. Thank you, Rick Hahn.

    Rambo

I think he said more in that trailer than he did in all the other movies combined. Pass...
  20. For your birthday, I bought you a self-suture kit complete with novacaine, needle and... I'm sorry, what...? But, he's got a gashwou...oooohhhhh. Happy Birthday!
  21. QUOTE(RibbieRubarb @ Jun 7, 2007 -> 01:23 PM) Is this whats all the fuss is about? A Bruce Willis interview? Mmm-mmm-mmm. Yummy. And I don't mean Bruce Willis....
  22. QUOTE(witesoxfan @ Jun 6, 2007 -> 08:24 PM) If that were the case, I'd be buying an encyclopedia Slut.
  23. QUOTE(southsider2k5 @ Jun 6, 2007 -> 02:02 PM) If he is here, he is playing. Mark my words. Marked.
  24. Erstad, IIRC, was hitting just under .300 as the lead-off hitter (before he got hurt). And who's to say that Pods won't get the team going again? OK, maybe we shouldn't have brought him back...but would you rather have Gary Matthews for 5 years? Juan Pierre for 4 years? DAve Roberts? I mean, c'mon, IF he's healthy, he can't hurt this team.
  25. Did any of the Knights hit a HR? I know at Round Rock Express games, they pass a hat around after every HR (or at least they did when they were AA) and give the money to the player. I think that's pretty cool.
