  1. How can anyone say anything bad about Orton or Grossman? Orton helped this team win 9 of 10 (if you include the start Sunday night, which, even tho he sucked, we were still winning 6-3 at halftime). I mean, c'mon, rookie QB get's thrown into the fire. I think he held his own pretty good. And as for Grossman, the book is still out on him. Both injuries were freak injuries, so I don't count those against him, yet. One more like that and I will begin to wonder. This team lost confidence in their QB and yet are still 10-4...that' pretty f'in amazing.
  2. Personally, looking at this trade...I would say the Padres creamed the Rangers. Eaton is ok, but has been bitten lately, Otsuka is excellent. Gonzalez and Young have huge upsides (especially Young, cuz, y'know, he's like 13 feet tall) and Sledge is serviceable.
  3. Eaton + Otsuka + prospect for Adrian Gonzalez + Chris Young + Terrmel Sledge Per ESPN
  4. QUOTE(southsider2k5 @ Dec 20, 2005 -> 10:21 AM) I don't have any problems with them wanting more money. God knows that why I had been looking for a job for 3 years plus. Them looking for an 8% raise kinda blew me away, but looking at how quickly they came down really said that was just a negotiating ploy to me. What I do have a problem with is them going on strike. It is illegal, flat out. Its not like these guys are working for someone that doesn't really affect anyone else. When the transit workers go on strike it is the working poor who cannot get to work, not the middle class and higher who either have cars or know someone who has a car to get a ride with. There is a reason this is illegal, and it serves as a bad example for a vital group. What if the NYC police or firefighters decided they didn't like the raise they got offered and went out on strike? I know that example is a little more extreme, but the same idea. The transit workers provide a vital function to NYC and its greater metro area. As I said earlier they are estimating a net loss of nearly half a billion dollars a day by this illegal activity. Just for perspectives sake, one day of this strike would cost enough for the bridge to nowhere that everyone is so upset about in Alaska as an example of extreme waste. I don't have a problem with the workers trying to get what is best for them. Capitalism works both ways as far as I am concerned. I have a big problem with an illegal activity. The police do strike...it's just not called a strike...it's called the Blue Flu. They don't all go out, they have a certain percentage call in sick. As for today's strike, it had to be a pretty horrible situation because you know the TWU knows this is illegal. NObody WANTS to go on strike, but sometimes it's the only way for the workers to be heard. Affect everyone, and you are heard. I have a friend who lives on the Upper East Side and works downtown...he walked to work. Long walk, but he said it was a nice walk.
  5. Before everyone gives Willie the boot outta town, just remember he started the White Sox 9th with a hit in game 4 of the WS and scored the winning run. Love him or hate him, he will ALWAYS be remembered for that... Right on par with Julio Cruz crossing the plate in '83 in the AL West clincher if you ask me. And Timo will always be remembered for some clutch hitting and Hawk freakin' out as Timo ran the bases. You weren't the best players, but you will be remembered (at least by this group). Thanks and good luck.
  6. How about a big hand for Craig Landis...Thome's agent and also, Konerko's agent. With Thome we get Konerko...with Konerko we get Thome. Ahhhh, I love agents.

The song from Beat Street... I think it's called Christmas in the Ghetto? "That GI Joe is GI Gay."
  8. QUOTE(Iwritecode @ Dec 19, 2005 -> 04:39 PM) I watched it but they totally ruined the end of the rant Clark made after receiving his "christmas bonus". Where's the Tylenol?
  9. The audio stuff was not the reason to fight back. The reason was a gun pointed to your son's, daughter's and granddaughter's heads. I'm not for vigilante-ism, but if someone comes into my house and threatens my family, I'll do what I have to do. Was it stupid? Probably. But, once his family was threatened, he probably lost all objectiveness.
  10. Very happy they got this done. And I think paid just right for a World Series Winning catcher.

  13. QUOTE(Texsox @ Dec 17, 2005 -> 07:31 AM) Roses are reddish Violets are blueish If it wasn't for Jesus We'd all be Jewish What we did when our kids were younger was traced the roots of Christianity and "celebrated", to use that word, the similarities in the faiths. I remember the first time I was at the service for a Jewish friend who had passed away. As the readings began, I realized they were Old Testament. That more than anything woke me up to the common beliefs we share. Remember the major difference is that Christians accept Jesus as the Messiah, Jews are still waiting. We share the Old Testament. Or to put another way, for most mainstream Christians, looking at Bibles, one would say, The Jewish is tooooooo short, and the Mormon is tooooooooo long, mine is juuuuust right. Old Testament, Jews, Christians, Mormons New Testament, Christians, Mormons Book of Mormon, Mormons So celebrate the roots, explore the differences, and expand the knowledge of the world. It can only help. Maybe a Jewish friend could come over and discuss not being Christian during the biggest marketing push the planet has ever seen for Christians. Oh, Tex...of COURSE Jews bible (or Torah) is the Old Testament. Jews have been around for 5766 years. I can't believe you were surprised. And c'mon, we all know the sequel is never as good as the original. Except for The Godfather II.
  14. Chanukah is probably the least religious Jewish Holiday. It gets more play because it falls around Christmas. It's a very uplifting story, but isn't so much religious as it is a miracle. If they were celebrating Easter and Passover...then, there might be a problem. On a lighter note, I think it's great!!! We need more open-minded people out there to try new things. And as my grandfather used to say, if you don't like it, you don't have to ever do it again.
  15. QUOTE(bmags @ Dec 16, 2005 -> 05:30 PM) boy, i do hope we can keep don cooper for as long as atlanta kept mazzoli Isn't that cooking oil?
  16. QUOTE(Felix @ Dec 15, 2005 -> 09:51 PM) Pods, Dye, Anderson/Owens, Mackowiak, Ozuna All 5 can play outfield, right? You could even include Willie in that list, but I think he won't be around. I like DaVanon, but I don't think we need him. Then again, if its a small deal, I have no problems with it. You are right, but I'd rather have DaVanon than Ozuna in the outfield. And for that matter, probably Mackowiak in CF. He is a scrappy player that would fit in perfectly with the Sox. That doesn't mean we need him, but if they aren't sold on Owens, yet...then he would be a great pickup.
  17. They are paying for a setup guy who's also a decent closer. Just in case Izzy gets hurt, they have Looper. That's what they are paying for. Howry and Eyre aren't closers. Those contracts are ridiculous. This one, while ridiculous, is more understandable.
  18. QUOTE(knightni @ Dec 14, 2005 -> 04:21 PM) Garland to the Dodgers for Edwin Jackson, Joel Guzman and Yhency Brazoban. WOW. I would eat my hat if that happened. It won't, but damn, one can dream.
  19. QUOTE(Felix @ Dec 14, 2005 -> 04:19 PM) Yea.. thats nice. Except Chicago isn't Montreal.. that might be a problem.. No it isn't, but Chicago has a better defensive team behind him than the Expos did. The D-Backs and the Yanks didn't have a good a defense behind him either. Talk about confidence...when you have a bunch of vacuums behind you...that's what gives a pitcher confidence.
  20. I don't know if she pulled the trigger, but I think she had a hand in it.
  21. Where are we now? Before arb. numbers and resigning AJ?
  22. C'mon haters...gotta love on some Coop. He basically made Billy Beane blow Loaiza this year, cuz he certainly ain't worth $7 mil per. He turned Contreras around (with El Duque's help). Finally got through to Jon. Helped a 38th round draft pick become a #1 (maybe #1a) pitcher. He can certainly help Vazquez. And with Ozzie being in his ear for a full year...hell, this is a great trade. And I wouldn't trade any of the pitchers just yet, what with MB and FG pitchign in the WBC. Maybe at midseason, if they haven't resigned.
  23. Don't forget, we have two pitchers going in the World Baseball Classic. I wouldn't trade B-Mac just yet. Use Garland or Contreras as trade bait come july 31st (or June 1st if you're Kenny). Depth at pitcher is a good thing to have.
