And I believe Paulie has said that he dislikes moving around. He didn't like going from the Dodgers to the Reds and then from the Reds to the Sox. I may be too optimistic here, but this team seems to really like each other and seem to want to win together. Plus, when all is said and done, the least amount of movement is usually the way things end up.

Politte's option exercised, Everett's Declined

QUOTE(Frank the Tank 35 @ Oct 31, 2005 -> 04:57 PM) Frank is low risk (monetarily), high reward. He's a longtime Sox and is willling to do anything to stay here. I can't see why the Sox wouldn't bring him back. I actually think it would be foolish not to. I like the Durazo backup plan. The lefty aspect is intriguing as is his supposed unfulfilled potential. Coming off surgery and with the prospects of going to a team that just won the WS, I think something could easily be done in the $1-2 mill range with incentives. You cannot...I repeat, CANNOT have two players on your bench that can only DH. One is bad enough, but two, not a chance. Even if you only carry 11 pitchers, that leaves you with ONE backup catcher, ONE backup infielder and ONE backup outfielder and two dead weights on the bench. Ozzie and KW will never go for it. -
QUOTE(sircaffey @ Oct 31, 2005 -> 08:31 AM) Exactly. None of the FA choices exactly are jaw dropping at least for DH that is. You got to remember, you gotta get someone who's willing to be a DH. I doubt that Giles is willing to become one. Philly is most likely dying to get Thome off the roster for Howard. I would love to see Thome here. Delgado as well, if Florida wants to dump him. Those two are guys that might not cost an arm and a leg (as far as trades), and both are better than the alternatives on the free agent market. Nonetheless, should be interesting to see what happens. With the White Sox being Champs this year, I would think that any team that is a potential trading partner would try to fleece the crap out of us. Unless they REALLY want someone out of there. I'm a little nervous about Thome, with his back and all. Delgado would be great IF we don't resign Paulie.

We need long relievers...a two to three inning guy. Unless El Duque is ok with being that guy.

QUOTE(G&T @ Oct 27, 2005 -> 05:29 PM) If this Series was boring it was because the Sox were too damn good. But I think this is more jealousy than anything. I was going to bring this article up last night when I saw it but I thought it wasn't time yet to hear the complaining. Screw them all. Listen to, of all people, Peter Gammons who ranks the 2005 Sox team among the great teams EVER. This team set the postseason record for run differencial, AND had 4 pitchers throw consecutive complete games. Maybe it was boring. But not for us. This was one of the great moments in baseball history and in Chicago history. If other people don't want to see that now, that's fine, but they will have to soon.

QUOTE(nitetrain8601 @ Oct 27, 2005 -> 05:34 PM) Nope. I actually want to celebrate the World Series win at home this year. Any series win, for that matter.

Honestly, and I read this article this morning, it was a yawner of an article. But Schoenfeld...shut it...we are the champs and you, well, aren't.

QUOTE(nitetrain8601 @ Oct 27, 2005 -> 05:02 PM) I don't know. I think Ozzie will take a couple of players who he thinks won't get the recognition but deserve to go, but probably won't play them much, especially if we're in contention for the division again. I say, leave all our guys at home and play a double infield of Morneau and Broussard at 1st, Martinez and Mauer at C, Hunter and Sizemore in CF, etc.

Ticker tape is the stuff that comes from the old "tickers" that were used for stocks. Throw it out the windows...and there's your ticker tape parade. Man I wish I could be there.

QUOTE(nitetrain8601 @ Oct 27, 2005 -> 04:47 PM) He calls himself White Sox Man. He also has a sidekick, though I forgot what the guy's name was. They were featured on Fox Morning News Chicago last week. GENIUS!!!

What about Kevin Walker? But seriously, great post!!! When I read the part about management, and KW in particular, it reminded me on one Billy Beane who so ingratiously made some disparaging remarks about one KW in his book, Moneyball. Well Billy, let's check the ol' toteboard: World Championships: Kenny Williams - 1 Billy Beane - 0 And THAT'S a White Sox Winner. In the immortal words of Nuke Cleveland: EAT s*** BILLY!!!!!

I sat there...listened to the Astros fans pulling for that ball to make it up the middle or die in front of Uribe. Hearing them scream, "C'MON! C'MON!!" Uribe picks up the ball, transfers it to his throwing hand, guns it over to Paulie...waiting...waiting...waiting...umpire punches him out and I stand up, raise both arms and SCREAM: YEEEEEEEEAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!!! Then I realize I'm the only one in the bar rooting for the Sox. Man, I miss Chicago.

QUOTE(AnthraxFan93 @ Oct 27, 2005 -> 09:54 AM) I never felt so good about being wrong... Congrats KW and the Sox for a magical season.. I still think this is all a dream that I sure as hell don't want to wake up from. Why isn't there a fainting smilie?
