  1. QUOTE(Greg Hibbard @ Oct 24, 2005 -> 11:18 AM) Thomas would take a $1 million contract in a heartbeat IMO, especially considering he's already getting a 3.5 million buyout. He just wants a chance to play. Think about it, there are only 14 teams he can play for, and many already have a DH. No matter what happens with Paulie, Thomas will be back. It's a drop in the bucket. And did you see Frank poke his head out of the clubhouse after Paulie hit that Slam? Gave him a high five and I think a hug. That's class and I'm glad he's getting to enjoy the games with the team, even though he's injured. I'm just glad he loaned his arms to Pods for that last homer.
  2. QUOTE(southsider2k5 @ Oct 24, 2005 -> 12:06 PM) I would encourage you to look at the Flying Spaghetti Monster or the Rally Crede for redemption instead... They interfere less with baseball.. WWFSMD? What Would Flying Spaghetti Monster Do?
  3. I don't think Tal's Hill is going to come into play that much. You would have to absolutely crank a ball to dead center...and that doesn't happen all that often. What I'm more worried about is Pods playing balls off that wall. Since the scoreboard is there, the ball can take some very funny hops. Both teams will get their dingers, but if Pods can keep runners from going to second on shots off the wall, that might decide a game.
  4. QUOTE(Kid Gleason @ Oct 21, 2005 -> 05:41 PM) Tonight: I will be having nervous fits of anticipation. Saturday during the day: Nervous fits continue. Saturday evening: Park it in front of my TV with a BIG bowl of popcorn, some fine beers, and some soda/pop/fizzy beverage people get anal about naming Sunday: Repeat all of Saturday routine. Saturday: Hopefully in a bar. Definitely surrounded by Astros fans. Damn Texas. Hopefully the Sox will be winning by so much that the fights will break out earlier than expected. That way I'll be out of the hospital in time for the Sunday game. Sunday: Hopefully in a bar. Again surrounded by Astros fans. Damn Texas. Hopefully the Sox will be winning by so much that people will feel sorry for me from the beatings I got the day before. But it will all be worth it. Let's Go White Sox!!! Clap, Clap, Clap Clap Clap!!!
  5. QUOTE(caffeinated @ Oct 21, 2005 -> 05:08 PM) After striking out like most folks, I received a call from my account representative at US Cellular. They have a ticket for me in their luxury box. There is a God. I... hate... you...
  6. QUOTE(Greg Hibbard @ Oct 21, 2005 -> 03:25 PM) is this hairbrained? bound to fail? genius? yes. no. of course.
  7. From what I know about Paulie (which is very little except for through the media), he SEEMS to like being here and didn't like moving from the Dodgers to the Reds to the White Sox. But, if the Sox are close, I could see him staying. Now if some owner (Moreno, Steinbrenner...I'm looking at you) wants to pay $15 mil per...he gawn.
  8. QUOTE(whitesoxmanager @ Oct 21, 2005 -> 03:01 PM) Toronto BJ's they just are bringing attention to their sorry asses! heh...you said BJ. Yeah, so I have the sense of humor of a 7 year old...wanna make sumthin of it?
  9. QUOTE(SSH2005 @ Oct 21, 2005 -> 03:05 PM) Uh-oh. http://chicagosports.chicagotribune.com/sp...ack=1&cset=true Wouldn't you? I sure would.
  10. QUOTE(Texsox @ Oct 21, 2005 -> 11:25 AM) I'm guessing Dollar Bill Worst was trying to open for games one and two as well. He doesn't show home games.
  11. QUOTE(tts1stros @ Oct 20, 2005 -> 05:52 PM) Greetings from an Astros fan. When I saw a topic called "Keys to beating Houston" I had to reply. A lot of what y'all are saying is true, but I wanted to correct some misinformation: --We will be pitching a four man rotation, not three. Count on the Game 4 starter being Brandon Backe. Backe is NOT as dominant as Oswalt/Pettitte/Clemens, but do not underestimate him pitching at home. He's a completely different pitcher at home vs. on the road, with an ERA more than two runs lower. The difference was even more pronounced last year. I agree with all that you said, but you have to remember that he will be pitching against Freddy Garcia, who is MUCH better on the road than he is at home. It's a very interesting matchup in Houston cuz the White Sox were the best team on the road and the Astros have won something like 80 out of the last 110 games at home. Don't forget the Red Sox had the best home record in the AL this year and we beat them there. We also swept the Angels in Los Angeles of Anaheim. I'm certainly not saying we are going to sweep the Astros in HOuston, but I wouldn't count Backe being better at home any higher than Garcia and the Sox being better on the road. Otherwise, great post and good luck!
  12. QUOTE(THEWOOD @ Oct 20, 2005 -> 05:40 PM) just got back from getting my tickets, its pretty much a madhouse downthere, with people dropping off money and picking up tickets..there were even a couple of people just showing up that were mad they had not been called yet, but they were turned away saying there was nothing they could do....anyways im in section 510 for the WS and 350 for the season...good luck to everyone else that is still waiting for a phone call You have been officially anointed as the in-town voice for CanOfCorn. Since I can't get tickets to either place and I'm stuck down here in Astroland...please to cheer for me. Maybe we can have an "Adopt-an-Out-of-Town Fan" thread. We give you money for a sign and you can make one saying, "I'm cheering for me and CanOfCorn, Austin, Texas!"
  13. QUOTE(The Bones @ Oct 20, 2005 -> 03:20 PM) Would wouldn't want to see this vs. this :puke When did they decide they were gonna play softball?
  14. It has been said over and over, by the team and by the fans, that we don't care what people think of us. So, if the White Sox don't hoist the trophy, why would anyone outside of Sox fans and players care? We'll remember...and that's all that matters.
  15. What about Parker Lewis Can't Lose? Or the Ben Stiller Show? Or the Idiot Box on MTV? Hi-f'in-larious.
  16. QUOTE(GoSox05 @ Oct 20, 2005 -> 01:56 PM) im gonna set my own car on fire and than dance around it drinking and pouring booze all over myself naked. Thanks for that visual. Step one: Open eye. Step two: Insert fork. Ahhh, much better.
  17. I was kind of neutral about AJ. Loved the way he played, but hated the s*** he used to bring to the plate when he was with the Twins. Now, after the interview with DP...I'm a convert!!! DP asked if Buehrle was watching Mulder last night (since they are both lefties) and Buehrle started to say yes, and right in the middle of his answer, AJ says, "Liar." And they go off on how they were all out at ESPN Zone drinking. Those two were laughing the whole time. And they also went into the Journey story. They are so loose, how can you NOT pick this team. It sounded like they were giving an off-season interview. I love it!!
  18. QUOTE(retro1983hat @ Oct 20, 2005 -> 10:29 AM) Maybe AJ, Crede or Rowand first got wood when slow dancing with a girl in junior high to Open Arms, which is on the same album. I know I did.
  19. I think Clemens is hurt. He's been having back troubles. Pettitte's knee hurts from getting a ball knocked off of it (I think it was during BP). The key to this series is only one start from Oswalt. Matchups: Starters: White Sox by one pitcher (Garcia on the road, awesome) Bullpen: Astros (only because of rust and Lidge) Lineup: White Sox because there's no shuffling players in and out to get some runs. These guys have played together all year. Managers: Even. Garner and Ozzie both manage by feel, which can either help or hurt. Good thing is...Ozzie watched Trader Jack win the WS in '03 so he knows how to manage in the NL. Intangibles: White Sox. 88 years vs. 44 years. Double up equals WHITE SOX IN 6!!!
  20. How's about this for a reason to keep Blum on the roster (if we play Houston): he hits .294/.320/.436 in the Juice Box. He played there for two years. He can play all infield positions. Gload, while a good slap hitter, plays 1b and some outfield (yikes). I'm just sayin', if it's HOuston, I want Blum. He hasn't hit for hamburgers in Busch, so things go out the window if we end up playing the Cards.
  21. QUOTE(LosMediasBlancas @ Oct 19, 2005 -> 10:10 AM) If the situation being reversed means that the Sox have not been to a WS since 1959, then I go with the Twins. BUT if the Sox have already won a WS of their own, then I'd root for the Cubs. We have to win it next. Then they can win it and we can drop the stupid 'rivalry'. Jerry Reinsdorf? Is that you?
  22. Either: Get the entire living '59 team out there and have Pierce actually throw it. Or: One of the oldest White Sox fans, whoever that may be. Maybe the longest standing season ticket holder families?
  23. QUOTE(Balta1701 @ Oct 18, 2005 -> 04:56 PM) I think Reyes in NY (NL) went like 125 at bats this season before he took a walk. Jeff Francouer of the Braves went a long time too.
  24. QUOTE(nitetrain8601 @ Oct 18, 2005 -> 04:16 PM) Ozzie 4 prez. ...of Venezuela. Congrats!!! I couldn't happen to a nicer kid.
