QUOTE(rudylaw @ Oct 6, 2005 -> 11:24 AM) I wish we could have Bob Costace (I know I spelled that wrong) doing the games. He is the best TV play by play man I have ever heard. He has such a way with words, he is perfect for baseball. When they had the Angels-Yankees game on...and I saw Jon Miller...I pined for him (and his bald-llet). I could do without Morgan, though.

I'm sorry, who are these hacks of which you are speaking? Until the White Sox win something, they can say anything they want. Of course, they are still no-talent ass clowns, but, the more games the White Sox win, the more Brantley's mullet mulletizes, Gammons waddle droops, Reynolds stutter increases and Morgan gets angrier.

I was at a bar, with a Cub fan friend (he moved when he was 13, so he doesn't have a hatred for the Sox and his dad is a huge Sox fan) and we were surrounded by Red Sox fans. When Gooch came up, I leaned over to my friend and said, Japanese pitchers throw a lot of junk (see: Shingo Takatsu, Shigetoshi Hasegawa) so Iguchi should be ready for a hanger and BOOM! We are the only two in the entire bar cheering for the White Sox and my arms nearly touch the ceiling and I scream YES!!! Then I had to calm down quickly since the Red Sox fans are my friends...and my fiancee. It coulda been a bad night, but she let it go. I love being the underdog.

Jenks curve is like Wakefield's fastball. As long as he throws it near the strike zone, it'll keep hitters off balance. But, did you see those two inside fastballs to Johnny "Unfrozen Caveman Center Fielder" Damon? They just disappeared. Made him look bad. I love it.

Next years slogan: White Sox Baseball...I Gahtcher Empty Ballpark Right Here.

I think yesterday's game pretty much told the rest of the pitching staff what to do with Ortiz and Manny. Keep the ball down, throw first pitch strikes that are down, keep the ball down, and work fast. After listening to Sutcliffe talk about how much faster Jose works now, I truly believe he threw Ortiz off his game. Jose is standing there, ready to get the sign and Ortiz is shuffling around, doing whatever he does, that's gotta be intimidating...especially looking at a 6' 4" 250 lb. guy staring at you, thinking, "I'm comin to getcha." Maybe Ortiz doesn't get rattled by stuff like that, but it's got to be disconcerting. BTW, Buehrle pitches fast.

If I may add a little to your open letter: Dear Damaso, So I was talking to David Ortiz last night and he asked me how your wife and his kids are? Also, he kept muttering something about your mother, goats, apple butter and rubber gloves. Not quite sure what he meant. Anyway, go get 'em, Tiger!!! Love, 'Corn PS. Spoke to Manny, too, but he forgot how to use the phone.

I believe someone, I think it was Rob Neyer saying that Pods, even though we know he is a huge key to the White Sox season, isn't good because his OPS is around .700. Well, KC Rob, it looks as though he was 2 for 3 with his first home run (and not a cheapy, either). Oh yeah, and an HBP AND a stolen base AND getting into Clement's head. Stats mean nothing in the post-season. It's a whole new 8-team league...first one to 11 wins...wins. And I don't understand how you can say that IF Iguchi didn't bunt and "waste" an out, that Everett and Rowand would have even gotten up to bat to drive in the runs that this guy said they were going to drive in anyway. What a crock. But that's what I love about baseball...lots of cooks and no spoiling of the pot.

QUOTE(southsider2k5 @ Oct 5, 2005 -> 08:36 AM) Interesting. Very interesting. Even more fun would be to have Ozzie go out and have him checked out. If he did that...Wells might eat him.
-
Happy Birthday!!! I guess you CAN have your cake and eat it too. At least today.

I love it!!! Fire up the crowd. Other suggestions: Ron Kittle, Jack McDowell, Minnie Minoso, Michael Jordan, Hizzoner, Beltin' Bill Melton, anyone that's still around from 1959, Venezuelan shortstops...all of them.

I think SoIL had it right. You don't see movies made about the musical paid for by selling Babe Ruth. You don't read books about goats not being let into a stadium. Because the Babe had an excellent career...there's a curse. Because a goat (A GOAT!!!) is denied access...there's a curse. People feel bad for the 1919 Black Sox. There's empathy. They did it to themselves. And we, as human beings, want to feel bad for people like Joe Jackson who didn't get to finish his dream (see: Field of Dreams). The other "curses" were someone else's stupidity or some outside reason. So, I say embrace the 1919 White Sox. That is OUR teams history. That being said, let's go out there and kick some Red Sox/Yankee/Angel/NL team ass and win one for White Sox players and fans since 1901!!! SOX PRIDE!!!

QUOTE(Queen Prawn @ Oct 3, 2005 -> 10:14 PM) It's the hamsters that keep us together. Is hamster a code word for something else?

Two words...no.

QUOTE(Queen Prawn @ Oct 3, 2005 -> 10:11 PM) Scary thing is that he is a Packers fan as well. It's a good thing he works third shift - that way I don't have to deal with him lol. How do you guys get along at all? BTW...go Whale!!! My favorite non-Blackhawk hockey uni.

QUOTE(Texsox @ Oct 3, 2005 -> 10:07 PM) Sucks. What is even worse, it may have been the best pie I've had in a long time. Damn the south sucks for pizza. I have a little heartburn, so at least I have that going for me. come to Austin and I'll buy you a Mangia Chicago style deep dish pizza. Not like Malnati's or Uno's, but pretty damn good for Texas.

QUOTE(Queen Prawn @ Oct 3, 2005 -> 10:01 PM) I feel for ya. Brian and I were dating in 2000 . . . he is a Mariners fan. That is all. so, will he be playing golf tomorrow, like the Mariners?

I hope Ozzie reconsiders his Closer Situation
CanOfCorn replied to White Sox Josh's topic in Pale Hose Talk
if he can learn to climb the ladder with that fastball...he won't need the curve. Although I love to watch him drop that hammer. -
Since I am the only White Sox fan that I know of down here in Austin...I'll be watching the game with Red Sox fans. That's right, RED SOX FANS!!! That's just not right. Kap, Tex anyone else, please come to Austin and watch the game with me... Oh yeah, and my fiancee is from Connecticut...AND A RED SOX FAN!!!

QUOTE(The Ginger Kid @ Oct 3, 2005 -> 04:17 PM) He went on the Dan Patrick show today and Gammons predicted the Red Sox in 3!! Says the white sox can't score enough runs to stay up with them. :headshake Wow...that's horrible. Especially when it's in print that he picked the White Sox in 5. Well, not print, but on the interweb.

I'm glad to see it's a day game, tho. Garcia is lights out during the day (see what I did there? Day game...lights out...heh).

Call me stupid, but I think Damaso can be good against Ortiz...here's why: Games 1 and 3 will be twilight games. Even if he's got average stuff, his arm angle still seems like he's throwing it from behind the batter...and it ain't easy to pick up the ball in twilight anyway. That's not a good combination for a lefty hitter. Plus, playoff baseball is a whole different animal. Damaso may just be back.
-
1 Thing: Pitching. Work fast, throw strikes, keep the ball down.

I hope your golf clubs are in your lockers, cuz yer gonna need em tomorrow.
